J.Crew Works Fashion Week {part 2}

In today's "J.Crew Works Fashion Week" post, we learned that J.Crew had its first presentation today. Since my invite got lost (clearly, that is what happened), we can live vicariously through the news reports.

The following list is just a start, I will update as they come in. Also, "thanks!" to many of you, including Sydney (in this post), Louise @ cosmetic bee (in this post), as well as Molly, who shared the following:
According to the Elle UK article, "Sparkling in a gold sequinned J.Crew dress, Beyoncé toured the looks with creative director Jenna Lyons and womenswear designer Marissa Webb." How exciting!?!

What are your thoughts? Are you excited about J.Crew's presence at Fashion Week?

  1. Hmmm, I feel bad for who ever was sitting behind Solange. She looks great, but her hair would completely block your view of the runway.

  2. That first pic looks very Spring '11 to me - I'll be interested to see the looks a little closer.

  3. Lovely to see Beyonce wearing J.Crew. I *love* her...she is my girl crush :)

  4. Here is a great roundup of the looks!

Can you tell I've been eagerly awaiting this presentation? :)

  5. I'm dying over all the beautiful color handbags!

  6. wow, I love the striped coat and pink dress, and the striped skirt with RED sandals!

But I feel those pieces can be hit or miss, not flattering on every body type, have to try them on to see...

  7. Very sorry to say it, but it's just disgusting to me that you weren't invited. WTH. It's the least they could do. :(

That said, I'm happy to see lots of color, but being the patient old lady that I am, I'll sit back out here in suburbia and wait to see how the runway looks translate to real-life, in-store stock before I make any decisions. I'm just starting to get excited to wear boots and cashmere, so I have a tough time looking at spring stuff and really seeing the possibilities, lol.

  8. Pics from the runway show on Fashionologie (link here). I am crushing on that kelly green leather clutch....

  9. I'm not digging the diaper look in photo #11.

    LOVE all the colourful handbags!

  10. I like most of the handbags better than the clothes. :) I do like the pink accordian dress.

Pretty colors overall, but pink and orange combo done before (by JC!). For a company that complains about having its ideas stolen, many of the looks are suspiciously reminiscent of Tory Burch. Also, the mid-calf length dresses/skirts are interesting on leggy models, but will be a disaster on most average height women.

  11. Elaine: You are so sweet! :) I don't think J.Crew will ever invite me to events they are holding. :(

I am not really sure why J.Crew has not embraced the every day blogger like Anthropologie does with their blog fans. Oh well! :)

  12. Not crushing on anything in particular... Agree that the bags look most interesting. And I am glad we are moving away from foot contraptions towards actual shoes.
The styling escapes me and just seems random, which I find distracting. Love the Tory Burch show, even if it is not exactly my style.

  13. I enjoyed the NY Mag pics but yeah, the styling is still horrendous and some of the stuff is just plain weird. I do love the bright colors and that heart printed shirtdress! I also love some of the more unique looking items but they will be collection, I'm sure. The most interesting items always are, and therefore way out of my price range!

  14. I love the overall vibe - fresh, vibrant, clean. Love the hair and makeup. I'm crazy for the colors! I think a lot of the styles will look great on women with a little more body, if you know what I mean. These girls are so slim - they don't do much for the clothes, which I suppose is the point.

Elaine, I really hope you're being sarcastic. Why on EARTH would Alexis be invited to Fashion Week? Last time I checked, she's neither a fashion guru nor a fashion insider. She is the owner of a blog that "covers" J.Crew (and I use that term loosely), and not even a blog that can command the kind of attention that would warrant an invitation to Fashion Week.

I've seen a lot of ridiculous comments on this blog about the delusional sense of entitlement and importance that many blog members here seem to have, but this one has to take the cake.

  17. @ Anonymous, since you post came up twice, all that is left for me to assume I guess, is that you are twice as brave as the usual anonymous poster.

  18. Love Jenna's response to Beyonce's arrival - just sweet!

  19. Elaine, wellfedfred , and others: Anonymous (profile/ 05677594994765366406) has written many negative comments directed at me & this blog before. I don't understand why someone who continuously writes about his/ her displeasure about me and this blog continues to frequent it. Baffling really. (Especially considering all the other wonderful JCrew related blogs that are out there. So many choices to choose from, no need to come here unless you WANT to.) Please don't bother with him/her. :)

  20. I agree that I don't think they're reinventing anything here, but the bright colours and some of the patterns are lovely. I too am lusting after the bright green handbag, also the striped coat and grey/green paisley pencil skirt!

Still waiting for more fall rollouts to see the long wool skirt I liked in the fall preview.

  21. Umm...ok. I'm kinda not that impressed with the clothing but yes the bags are to dye for (get it!?, ok, bad joke). The green pants & sweater combo and orange pants & pink shirt combo remind me of H&M Summer 2011. And do not get me started about the 'diaper' shorts. If anything, me and my 5'4" shelf will pick up the sheer polka dot neck-tie blouse and sequin skirt (love my sequins) and maybe a bag or two. But seriouslt what are they thinking? Even in petite sizing those below the knee skirts and dresses will show no mercy to us average height girls. Best stock up on fall pieces girls. It looks like a dark spring...

  22. You go Alexis, I just gave you a standing ovation! That girl must have some very low self-esteem or she would not be putting you down to try to build herself up. Counseling is a viable option for her. Tsk, tsk.

  23. Anonymous comments should be ignored, just a coward hiding behind a computer screen. If I were JCrew I most certainly would invite some of my most loyal fans.

The colors were great but the styling was just ok. I did like the paisley skirt.

  24. Love the collection ... I truly believe J.Crew can compete with any of the other designers who presented during fashion week ... The colors & prints are bold ... I can't wait to see the collection in store ... I wouldn't be surprised if Jenna Lyons creates her own line ;) ... J.Crew takes mall fashion to another level {smile} ... love it ... Way to go J.Crew ... FYI anonymous bloggers get invited to Fashion Week ... I went to the Rebecca Minkoff show in Feb for fall 2011 .. . :)

  25. I agree with Cass that a lot of the collection looks very much like Tory Burch.

    ReplyDelete
  26. LOVE. I think I'm seeing some midheel options in shoes too :>

    ReplyDelete
  27. LOVE the colors and styling! bravo J Crew!!! I really dont see anything that looked weird" besides the white shorts. love how fresh and crisp it is. Remember last years spring presentation? It's come miles!

    ReplyDelete
  28. I like the bags and the shoes. Lots of bright colors!

  29. Just wanted to add to my previous comment that I do like Tory Burch, so with a lot of the collection looking very similar to her line, I do find many of the J.Crew pieces appealing. However, I find it more and more difficult to get excited about upcoming J.Crew collections knowing the quality of the items will more than likely be subpar and disappointing IRL.

  30. Interesting about the TB comparison - it's mentioned in the New York Times, too (last paragraph).

  32. Wow! That article in the Times was poorly written. I still know nothing about the Tory clothing other than it is ladylike. Oh, and the author appears to feel a bit inadequate based on her comment about fitting right in and the door. The reference to J Crew is downright odd...

    ReplyDelete
  33. I am not in love with everything the new Spring line has to offer, but I am really excited about a few pieces. Much like many of you, I am impressed with the striped jacket and the handbags. I can't wait to see them in person!

birdie butter: That is so great you got invited to the RM show!!! :)

Sara & David: Thank you. :)

  34. Cass I thought the same thing re: the midcalf skirt/dress length -- ugh.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Oh, and to the delightful 'anon' whose sweet comments I appear to have missed, I certainly was not being sarcastic. I won't even deign to comment further, as it's clear to me that doing so would be utterly pointless. Smooches!

    ReplyDelete
  36. That NY Times article certainly was poorly written and lacked substance... and a point. Oh well. I like Tory Burch clothes (but not the shoes, I don't get it with the huge logo thing on the toe) but can't afford it so I'll welcome any perceived influence in the J.Crew spring 2012 collection.

And I sure was happy when true anonymous commenting was disabled on this blog. It's become so much more civilized since then!

  37. JCrewJD, your comment about the shoes made me laugh. I do love my Revas and cork soled wedges though the logo is very small on the wedges. I have yet to "need" any garment I have looked at TB.

I try a lot on it Tory, but everything seems to either be way too tight in the hips or way too long. I think she designs for someone far different from me even though her body type isn't drastically different than mine and one would think she would have more sympathy for small women.

Anyway, everytime I am in TB, I notice that a lot of the clothing is pilly and cheaply made. Even marked down I won't pay for some of the cotton shirts as I have honestly seen better quality at Target for cute little bohemian tops or button fronts. I have actually passed on many of her items that I loved because I have found better made items for a better price at J Crew or other stores.

  38. More of the fall collection new arrivals will be online tomorrow. :)

    ReplyDelete
  39. FFM - thanks for the heads up about the fall collection tomorrow on-line!

As to the twit who is up on their high horse, let me be quite frank:

Do you honestly hold yourself in such high regard that you would "stoop" so low to such a blog that is so undoubtedly "beneath" you? So why waste your "precious" time lurking around here anyway?

Perhaps you are the delusional one who believes your self-entitlement trumps all others.

Please take your nasty attitude elsewhere. Do you remember that saying, oh what is it...oh yeah! If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all? Perhaps take heed.

Sorry Alexis, I had to say something! I felt I kept it pretty clean 8v)

  40. We've been using Prada Amber perfume for over ten years, and it still smells great. It is very similar to our original scent, so if you loved our original fragrance, you would also love this one. The base of the scent is very warm and rich. It has amber, sandalwood, musk, vanilla, and tonka bean. This scent is great for both men and women. each year, there is a new fragrance, usually a limited edition, which is sold for a very short period.
