JCA "Help Style Me!" Weekly Post

This is the weekly "Help Style Me!" post, where we can share items we are having trouble putting outfits together with. Elaine (in this post) says it best, "You know, that thing you bought because you love it and you keep pulling it out and then putting it away without wearing it?"

Please share your J.Crew item (either that you own or are thinking about getting) that you would love help creating an outfit with.

Also, please help out by offering your styling advice. Feel free to include links to your blog (where you incorporated that piece) or to Polyvore (where you showcased an outfit with that piece). Thanks in advance! :)

  1. Which jacket is best for someone that is tall and very thin? Schoolboy or hacking? I am torn, and maybe I will just get one of each, but I don't know!

What I wear most often is skinny jeans and a v neck tee perfect tee or a button up. I recently got a pair of Pixie pants and want to add in some cords as well.

    Any suggestions?

  2. JS -- I'd go for the hacking jacket, b/c it has a bit longer length and is more fitted than the schoolboy. Looks especially cute with skinnies and a tee!

  3. Schoolboy is a no go for tall ladies, in my opinion. The hacking is much more flattering due to its longer, streamlined length.

  4. I agree with others about the hacking jacket, it's really more universally flattering.

  5. I just got the perfect shirt in blackwatch plaid. Love it, but not sure what color pant to wear them with. I definitely want to wear it tucked into a cord. I was thinking the toothpick cords in stable brown since I just got them, but not sure if the warmth of the brown is a clash with the dark, cool colors of the perfect shirt. Should I go gray? Any help is much appreciated!

  6. JS, the shape of the hacking jacket is more flattering for tall gals, for sure.

  7. Hello! From the other end of the height spectrum comes a question about the schoolboy blazer. I saw the houndstooth version of the blazer and loved it, but I can't justify buying it at full price unless I can make it work for the office (seeing as it's practically sold out online, I think my chances if getting out on sale are pretty slim). Problem is, I work in kind of a staid office (though not suited up either), so I wouldn't wear jeans or cords or knee-high boots to the office, and those are the main ways I can think of to style it. (I also rarely wear dresses or skirts to work; it's always black or gray pants for me.) How dressy do you think this blazer can go, and how could I wear it? Any advice for this style-challenged person would be much appreciated!

  8. Hey everyone!

I'm still a rookie J. Crew aficionada, only 22, and first time poster here! I tried on my first Minnie pant today at a B&M, but the 00R was too big. Any suggestions on which J. Crew pant I could try that might be a slimmer fit in the waist? I couldn't get any help from any sales assistants; they were so busy! And if they are too big in the waist, will they do that kind of tailoring, or just hemming?

    Thanks!

  9. What to wear with my gorgeous Collins suede platforms in Mossy Oak? It's a low-key girls' night out for my birthday, I want to show the shoes off a bit, not hide them under long bootcut jeans. Do I go with straight leg jeans rolled up a bit? What other kinds of pants will work? It will be a chilly fall night, so a skirt/dress with bare legs isn't really an option. I'm 5'9", size 12, if that helps at all with suggestions.

    Thank you!

  10. What to wear with the Phoebe Dress? Shown here. A lovely JCA recently sold it to me and I love it but I don't know how to... tone it down. I mean, that is a serious ruffle!
