Weekly Share: Other JCrew-like Retailers

This is the weekly "Other JCrew-like Retailers" post (similar to the "Off On A Tangent" posts), where we can share our finds from other retailers that have offerings similar to J.Crew (like LE Canvas, Gap, BR, Talbots, Ann Taylor, and the like.)

If you have recently encountered items that are similar to J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including experiences with certain merchandise pieces, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  3. I have to point out that Talbots currently has some darling almond toe patent leather flats for $98 in amazing J.Crewish colors. I have the J.Crew Salina patent flats and they are quite possibly the least comfortable shoes in the world. I also had the J.Crew perfect pointy flats but also found them extremely uncomfortable and sold them off long ago. I've been searching for replacements in similar colors for a while... specifically J.Crew's poppy and peacock colors from 2008.

During the 25% off full price deal they had going earlier this week, I purchased the Talbots patent leather point toe flats in the red and teal colors, and confirmed with the chat person that they are all leather - upper, lining and sole. Dare I say they may even be worth full price? I'll let you know when I receive them but for anyone who lusts after J.Crew colors, at least a few of them can be found elsewhere, for less money, and at a greater level of comfort.

Here is a link to the shoes. The calf hair ones look gorgeous too. AND They come in 5.5 and 10.5... amazing!

I am not fully on the Talbot's bandwagon yet because I still find many of their clothing options matronly and unflattering, but they seem to have largely nailed shoes, bags, and scarves. Definitely worth checking out.

  4. J.CrewJD: you're so right about Talbot's shoes. I've ordered few (and though I had to return them d/t not having the right size) and I was impressed. Now I can look elsewhere for similar JC replacements.

  5. Banana Republic is doing an extra 35% off already reduced merch. I bought a lace shell in a pretty purple for $16. A lot of the Mad Men collection is on sale now as well.

  6. H & M has got some really interesting items right now, all of which are very affordable. I posted about a horse print tunic/dress on my blog here, which seems to be getting a lot of interest (see also Ema's blog and Gigi's blog for additional reviews).

As swingy, boxy sweaters seem to be a trend right now, I also picked up a boxy sweater at H & M in camel with black stripes - only $24.95 CAD and very decent quality (cotton/wool/angora blend). It looks great with skinny jeans and boots, I'll try to post an IRL pic on my blog later this week. I liked this one as it actually has natural fibers in it. Many of H & M's' sweaters are 100% acrylic.

  7. I went to Talbots and bought a gorgeous spring jacket/blazer in Aug. I came home to find an email/survey for me to fill out explaining my recent shopping experience. Excitement to the MAX when I received and email saying I had won their survey contest and a LARGE amount gift card is headed my way. My daughter said how many outfits can you buy with that. I said, "Your bargain shopper Mom hopes to get at least 2 complete outfits out of it:)". I prefer summer and spring clothes over winter ones so here is hoping there is no expiration date:) YEAH! So happy. Talbots has made my week!!!

  8. Genny, that's awesome! I received an e-mail asking me to fill out a survey that would take 20-25 minutes the day after I placed my shoe order. Hoping I can have the same luck as you in winning! The survey was about my Fall 2011 shopping plans.

Oh, and for anyone with J.Crew sweater woes, I recently bought this Old Navy sweater in "plumonade". It is almost the same color as bright dahlia IRL... not the neon purple it looks like on screen. I am not a cotton sweater person but I do love this sweater. I've washed it and it help up nicely... then again, I pretty much expect clothing from ON to fall apart after one wash.

  9. To follow up on FFM's post about Endless, I recently placed an order with them for a bunch of pairs of flats. I had wanted to order some flats from JC, but the size/color I wanted was backordered to JANUARY, so they lost a sale (by then I will have no need for flats as I will be walking around in winter boots). I went scouring other websites for cute flats in my size (11, often hard to find, esp. b/c the elastic fit flats usually run a size small and I end up sized out), and found a large selection at Endless. Got my order yesterday and the big winners were the Bloch London flats. Great quality, leather lining/sole, with *real* cushioning in the heel and footbed. I was so pleased I went back and ordered 2 other styles from this brand last night with the F&F discount. They are not cheap, but are reasonably priced for the quality, and if you can get them on sale I think they are a good deal. They also come in a 42 Euro size which accomodates my need to size up in elastic flats for my big a** feet.

  10. I've been spending too much money lately so resisted the sale, but just want to say that Endless also has a good selection of shoes in size 5 and 5.5 (I'm on the other side of the difficult-to-fit spectrum). And surprisingly nice boots in the girls' section, too.

  14. A few reviews of some cute items at Banana here. One is a skirt that's very similar to the Flair Skirt that I loved.

Congrats Genny on winning that Talbots card!
