This is the weekly "Other JCrew-like Retailers" post (similar to the "Off On A Tangent" posts), where we can share our finds from other retailers that have offerings similar to J.Crew (like LE Canvas, Gap, BR, Talbots, Ann Taylor, and the like.)
If you have recently encountered items that are similar to J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.
Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including experiences with certain merchandise pieces, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.
I posted some picks from Brooks Brothers

Still in search of some nicely priced leopard print heels that don't look so cheap. Also, red and yellow pumps.
ReplyDeleteThanks ladies!

ReplyDeleteThe Zara online store is open now and the shipping and returns are FREE. :)
ReplyDeleteHas anyone tried on the Layered Column Dress from Anthro or the Double-faced wool wrap coat from Talbots? I would love any info about fit and quality. I have never purchased anything from either store but love the looks of both. Thanks.

ReplyDeleteThanks for the update on Zara, FFM - they've got some cute looking pieces!
ReplyDelete@mini, I tried the Layered Column Dress at Anthro and loved it. I didn't purchase it, because $178 is a bit out of my price range, but I thought it to be worth that. I'm tall, and I'm small up top but large on the bottom. I found the dress to be extremely flattering, with the layers covering up any "problem" areas. I think it would be that way on any body type as well. It's a must have for me as soon as it goes on sale. HTH!

ReplyDeleteIs the fabric thick or thin? Is it something that can be worn all year? I'm going to a wedding in a few weeks and was lookinig for a dress. I feel it could be dressed up or down , so I could get a lot of use out of it.
Waah, I wish the Zara online store was available in Canada! I love Zara, but their stores are hard for me to get to, and each store carries differing merchandise, so if I'm hunting something I sometimes have to go to at least 3 different stores to find it.
ReplyDeleteIf you like the idea of JCrew's Café capri in houndstooth wool (but don't want to spend $138 on itchy, cropped wool pants) try Gap's Slim crop plaid pants. I picked up a pair in a local store for $29.99 and they look great.
ReplyDeleteIgnore the hideous photo on the website! The Gap pants fit great, are similar to cafe capris and are somewhat looser than the slim fit Gap pants I bought last year. The fabric, a machine-washable poly blend, looks and feels great.
BTW, the pattern on the JCrew pants is Glen Plaid not Houndstooth.

I'm so excited to finally be able to shop Zara online!!
ReplyDeleteAlso, I got the Sloan cropped pants from BR and they fit so great! For us ruler types, that is! Thx to whoever came up w/that term. It's the perfect description of my body type, lol!
@mini: The fabric is a good medium-to-thick weight. It seems like it'll hold up and keep it's shape, but it's not too thick that it'll be hot in the summer. It's described on the Anthro site as a summer maxi, but IMO, it looks perfect for fall (which, I guess, is why they just released it.) However, I think styled right, it could be worn year round. I think it would be very versatile...for work, for dinner, for a nice event.
ReplyDeleteAll this talk about it makes me want to go try it on again.
@ JCrewPhD: I had the same problem re: leopard print shoes that would neither break the bank nor look cheap (loafers, in my case). Ended up doing an Amazon.com search and found a super cute pair of loafer/ballet flat hybrids from Dollhouse for $20.00 in a plushy velveteen fabric. It looked like they had a pretty decent selection of leopard heels as well.
ReplyDeletemini: check out the Talbots coat here.
ReplyDeleteThe Anthro dress was out in my size, and the XS they had was too small for me. So I would say it fits TTS.
Thanks Rose and LauraK :)
ReplyDeleteBoden has a special promo through Real Simple. Use the link bodenusa.com/realsimple and get 20% off plus free shipping and free returns. For those of you who haven't ordered from Boden, be sure to check the measurements, which I find to be quite different from JC.

I'm excited about Missoni for Target too. If you go here you can see the prices for the items.
ReplyDeletejcrewphd - just saw these cute leopard prints at this website... http://www.newport-news.com/shop/product_single.aspx?style_id=36356273&index=0&gp_coll_id=7516&gp_cat_id=7517&nav_cat_id=10712&category_id=10773
ReplyDeleteBoden is also running a pretty big diminishing discount sale on their website right now. Last night I did some picks from their Autumn line that are seeming to be pretty popular and *may not* make it to their end of season sale in December.

I also will be doing another Boden Weekly Review Roundup tonight at my blog (I try to do these every Wednesday, but sometimes it gets pushed to Thursday). I have had a few of these that have some of the Autumn items reviewed, so if you are on the fence on some of the items at Boden, the reviews may help you.

The diminishing discount ends tomorrow for the 20% off, but if you see this on Friday, you will still get 15% off, and on Saturday, 10% off. :)
If anyone knows of a Talbots discount code, please let me know -- I love their chunky high-heel loafers but could really use a discount..
ReplyDelete@dinster: 025281154 works for 25% off and free shipping.
ReplyDeleteI'm really impressed with Zara. I placed an order early this morning, and my status is now "In Transit." I honestly figured they'd be overwhelmed today, having just launched. I can't believe it's shipped already.
Eddie Bauer: FALL25 for 25% off everything and free shipping with purchase of a pair of pants. Some of their stuff is great and you can order almost anything in petite or tall sizes. Just ordered several down coats and vests to try in petites (how great is that - sleeves on jackets that aren't way too long?)
ReplyDeleteJcrewphd:
ReplyDeleteI've been searching for nice leopard print patent flats but I did come across some nice heels from Franco Sarto:
Franco Sarto Luxe
and with a lower heel:
Franco Sarto Maiden, which I'm thinking about ordering.

Can anyone comment on the fit at Lands' End Canvas? Is it similar to actual Lands' End? I'm thinking about getting the Heritage Trench, and am leaning toward buying a small, even though due to my chest measurements I should get at least a medium according to the size chart. For reference, I usually buy an 8 in J. Crew winter coats, as a 6 is kind of tight in the chest.
ReplyDeleteAny help would be appreciated! I am kind of an impatient person, and don't like to deal with the hassle of shipping returns (I don't have a Canvas near me).
Hi Kelli -
ReplyDeleteI would definitely go with the small. I find that LEC tops run a little big. I am almost always an XS in J Crew tops and it was the same for Lands End Canvas. I find their tops to be a bit room although the bottoms a bit snugger. I have a jacket from them and it is size Xsmall and fits fabulously! Let me know if you want any other info!
Kelli, you can return Land's End Canvas stuff to Sears... it's pretty awesome.
