This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)
If you are stopping by a J.Crew store this weekend to see what's available (if anything!) in the SUMMER sale, or to see some new FALL arrivals {sigh!} in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic!
Also, please let us know if your local store is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)
P.S. I noticed that many of you have already been reporting sale items (and in which stores) in other posts which by the way "thank you!" :) I really appreciate how helpful we are for each other!
Not planning to at this point unless a big sale is announced. I did some major ordering from Boden with their 20% off and free shipping and returns as well as Talbots 25% off and free shipping this past weeek.
ReplyDeleteHaving the extra 30% off sale items online only must really hurt the stores. I would much rather go to my local store this weekend to buy some sale items, but not when I know I can get the same merchandise for cheaper online. So, after the damage of my LOVEIT purchases, I don't think I'll be making it in this weekend.
ReplyDeleteI'm definitely going this weekend.
ReplyDeleteLauraK: if you see a sale item online you can ask them to match the price in store. I have done that in the past and they honoured the cheaper price.

ReplyDeleteGot invited to a "Wear to Work" event next week. But the discount is only 20% off $250, which to me isn't enticing enough.
ReplyDeleteOT and I apologize once again but my comment is time-sensitive.
ReplyDeleteI have a BNWT viridian green No. 2 wool pencil skirt in size 6. If a JCA would like to buy it I will sell it for $140 shipped within Canada. Email me:
dunc209 at shaw.ca
I am between sizes so I wanted to try both the 4 and 6 and I'm keeping the 4. I thought since it's waitlisted until mid-November I would offer the 6 here before shipping it back on Monday.
No visit for me - like Genny, I ordered from Boden instead.
ReplyDeleteDid anybody else get the email about the new chunky cashmere sweater (35143)? I assume this means new arrivals next week?
There is free shipping on knits and tees but there is no discount this am.
ReplyDeleteI went yesterday for a return and tried on the flair skirt. Will post pics tomorrow!
ReplyDeleteFree ship on knits & tees is a great offer for those who want a 30% off item(s) w/o the hassle of ridalongs or paying flat shipping.
ReplyDeleteNothing for me. We're in that weird time period between hot and cold, so everything I have will see me through for the next little while. :)

ReplyDeletehas anyone seen the neon gingham perfect shirt in neon azalea or the mini gingham shirt in violet?? I've been dying for these and my local store doesn't have them!! Please let me know if you see any
ReplyDeletesydneyroark09@yahoo.com
Nothing for me, unless a magical coupon code comes out soon that I can use on a coat.
ReplyDeleteI will be avoiding my B&M. I picked up the Sevigne washed leather wedges in sandalwood for $35 (+$8.95-yes, it hurt) this week during the 30% off and now I am attempting to turn over a new "J Crew leaf."
ReplyDeleteProject333, although not for me in its entirety, inspired me to slim my wardrobe so I am going to try and add just 1-2 QUALITY pieces to my closet every month. One good versatile piece for full price is better than 6-10 “just because they are on sale” pieces. My first step in the right direction: The Flair skirt in double-serge wool in heather acorn.
Wish me luck ;)
My PS told me that they were expecting new arrivals in store on Tuesday (not sure if that means actual new arrivals, or just new-ish stuff that is online but hasn't made it to stores yet).
ReplyDeleteI went to the B&M last night and saw a few things up close and personal. I bought the Betsey sweater in camel, a red and cream wool scarf ($10 off) and a silk navy blue polka dot tee shirt that I can't find online. It has a silver exposed zipper (but not really chunky or obvious) halfway down the back. It was $98, I think. Other than that, I tried on the wool cafe capri for size (they didn't have any colors I was interested in), but I didn't really like them. I also tried on the flair skirt, and I needed to size up, but I still didn't fall head over heels in love with it. There was a gorgeous green herringbone Hacking Jacket. I didn't see it on the J. Crew website, but its on net-a-porter. I think it was $200. It was a really beautiful, classic piece. Other than that, I loved the No. 2 Pencil Skirt in the red/orange color - on my wishlist.
ReplyDeleteThe origami mini in peopny was gorgeous and vibrant, but I have nowhere to wear it. Too short for work and too fancy for casual weekends. I tried on the Vintage cotton stripe shoulder-zip tee ($42.40) and while it was cute, it didn't wow me and I decided I didn't need it.
Has anyone seen the Café capri in houndstooth wool in a size 2?
ReplyDelete@ IRL and everyone else: I did a mock check-out of 30% off items and a t-shirt, and it did not give me free shipping (the total was around $120). You still have to meet the $175 to get free shipping if there are sale items in your cart. UNLESS all items in your cart, sale and non-sale, are t-shirts.
ReplyDeleteAnyone know if the new teal pencil skirt (in stores only right now) will eventually be sold online? I fell in love with it at the store, but I sadly need a petite size. Hemming hasn’t worked for me on those skirts in the past either.
ReplyDeleteI’d settle for the viridian green color in, but it is still on backorder till November. :(
Ally, try the Buffalo, NY store for the Houndstooth Cafe Capris, they had a whole size run when I was there last weekend.
ReplyDeleteThanks Caitlin! Has anybody reviewed these capris?
ReplyDeleteQuality_in_Classics, good luck with your new leaf. I firmly believe that it is much better to plan and select 1-2 full price items that you really love and will work with your wardrobe, rather than purchasing a bunch of "deals" from the sale section. Those "things you never knew you needed". I don't even look at the sale section anymore. I am scaling back on all J.Crew though, and it's much more painless than I expected.
ReplyDeleteFor anyone who plans to shop online this weekend (although no good promos seem to be in sight) - here is a REVIEW of a few pieces I have recently ordered:
ReplyDelete1. Merino Bomber Jacket In Black (item #46748) - CS suggested that I size down, because it's supposed to be a layering piece, so it runs a bit large. I am size S in J Crew cashmere crewneck cardigans, and went with XS in this one. The fit was good, and the quality is actually very good as well. It's a nice weight sweater with smooth and heavy weave merino, and it does not seem like it would pill. However, the bottom hem is tighter than the sides, which makes this sweater "poof" out right above the hem. I realize that this is what a "bomber" jacket style is supposed to be, but it just looked a bit strange on me. I would be more accustomed to seeing it in a leather jacket; in merino, it just looks a bit out of place. Just my take on it, though.
Good quality sweater otherwise. YKK zippers, too!
2. Cashmere Henley in Heather CARAmel (item #49289) - I ordered size S, and the fit was off as well. Fits nice through the sleeves, but too big and shapeless in the body - and on top of it, too long. I am 5'4" - 5'5" for reference. I would size down next time. The quality is nice, but it feels like it would pill. Of course.
3. Cashmere Shawl-Collar Sweater in Heather CAMel (item #49291) - Ordered S, and it was a DISASTER! I have not seen a sweater looking THIS BIG on me since the days I borrowed my hubb's sweatshirts!! I even asked CS for measurements before ordering it, so it should have fit! I am so mad, because this seems to be the case of being jcrewe'd by their inconsistent sizing. Beware the final sale on this one! In all fairness though, it felt very soft, and the color was very nice.
Needless to say, all of them are returns. :( I will spend this money on a quality piece of cashmere somewhere else.
HTH!
ally-- if that doesn't work, try short hills mall in NJ... they had a whole bunch of them when i was there last week.
ReplyDeletenothing for me... birthday's next week so i'm waiting to see if i get any gift cards... and to see what new arrivals come in...
p.s. my verification word is "dresses"... hmmmmm... hope that means there's something pretty coming my way :)
Thanks, XOXO!
ReplyDeleteI feel good about the decision. I like to use the catalogs more for ideas lately, and the more I stick to the “buy classic” rule the more I find I already have the essentials to make the outfit I like.
Courtney = Quality_in_Classics LOL different email domain.
ReplyDeleteThere are now two cute polka dot tops at Factory. The camp blouse which I don't love because it's too short on me, and then a sleeveless one that is identical to the silk flora blouse. It is navy with white polka dots. Even though I am not big on chiffon I found it much cuter and more flattering than the retail short sleeved polka dot top currently out.
ReplyDeleteThey also have a factory version of the Oxford Ballet flats. They run small though so the 10 was wayyy to small and that's the biggest size. Boo. I think they are $89.50 plus always on some sort of promo.
Ally - I have them and love them. They fit fairly TTS - I go between a 00 and 0 in pants and skirts and took a 00 in these ones because the thighs on the 0 were baggier than I wanted. They are fully lined and the houndstooth pattern is great and will go with tons of different coloured tops, sweaters and blazers. HTH, let me know if you have any specific questions!
ReplyDeleteThanks Caitlin!! How tall are you? I'm 5'0 and wanted to know if I could get away with wearing them as pants. I'm normally a 2 in J. Crew bottoms so I'm wondering if I should size down as well.
ReplyDeleteOk, I have a dilemma. I really want the Jardin skirt in a petite size. It's on sale in stores, but not online. Should I call CS and ask for the sale price and ask them to apply the 30% off? I am not going to pay FP online where they have my size if it's on sale in the stores. What do you guys think?
ReplyDeleteOh, and I tried on the Flair skirt and I didn't like it on my "ruler" shape. It wasn't bad, but it really wasn't good either. i love the length and 70's vibe, but it just wasn't flattering one me. I had a feeling the pleats would kill it for me and they did.
ReplyDeleteAlly, I saw the Café Capri in houndstooth wool in a size 2 in Annapolis two days ago.
ReplyDeleteI thought it ran a little bit small.
HTH!
I stopped by the store today to show my PS the Hacking Jacket in Heather Dark Grape; we decided that this jacket doesn't fit me well. I exchanged it for a Schoolboy Blazer that I don't see online. I posted a review on my blog:
ReplyDeletehttp://jcrewismyfavstore.blogspot.com/2011/09/review-j-crew-hacking-jacket-heather.html
Jruby18: the flair skirt didn't fit me well either.
Ally - I think whether or not you size down depends on what type of body shape you have...I found them to be TTS in the waist and a tiny bit loose through the legs (but I have pretty scrawny legs). They also stretch out a little bit as you wear them.
ReplyDeleteI am 5'9 so they are a true crop on me, hitting an inch or two above the ankle. I think you could probably get away with wearing them as pants, though obviously I can't say for sure :).
Txgirl14...my PS said that it will not be online, but she could be misinformed. I also want it really bad but need a petite as well
ReplyDeleteJRuby18, it doesn't work that way because they can't check the in-store sale price. You need to go to a B&M and convince someone to call Catalog and order it for you for the latest store price. That is, if they are willing to apply it since petite sizes are not available in stores. HTH!
ReplyDeletesimplydreaming, thanks for the info. I just can't justify paying full price for the regular length as much as I love it. Such a beautiful color though!

ReplyDeleteDoes anybody know how the Cece Ballet Tweed Flats fit and are they sold in stores?
ReplyDeleteAlly, review of the houndstooth capris here. HTH
ReplyDeletejruby, I would ask the PS to do a store search for you to see what store might have it. Then call the store yourself and order it.

ReplyDeleteRight, I understand the shipping details. Sorry if my comment was misleading. :)
Perhaps I should have stated:
"Free ship on knits & tees is a great offer for those who want a "knit or tee" item(s) from final sale, w/o the hassle of ridalongs or paying flat rate shipping.
xoxo, Quality_in_Classics, Courtney: I'm with you. After a ruthless closet purge two years ago, I'm very careful what I add to my closet now. Adding 2-3 carefully selected pieces even at full price actually saves me money rather than loading up on FS items. It also helps keep my closet organized. Other than cashmere where my sizing has been consistent, I do not look at final sale anymore. If I do not need and like an item enough at full price, I surely do not need it at any price.
ReplyDeleteI don't know where to post this but I came upon this little article from Page Six Magazine about what people wear to work at J.crew offices, Tommy Hilfiger, etc. (photos at the bottom of the article)
ReplyDeletehttp://www.nypost.com/pagesixmag/issues/20110908/Behind+Seams
I love what Marissa Webb is wearing! I saw that striped silk button down at my B&M and I couldn't stop thinking about it. Now I want it even more!
Txgirl14, simplydreaming: I had the same question about the teal skirt - thanks for the information. I am also tempted to buy the regular 00 and get it altered, but I can't justify the extra cost (I'd need to take it in a little bit, not just the hem). Does anyone know the name of that color? The code on the tag is DTU.
ReplyDeleteI am going to check out theProject333. I have been shopping way too much - Boden some and a LOT of JCrew. Too all that commented that buying one or two fabulous full price item is the way to go - I agree! I ordered the Blackwatch Scoolboy Jacket - beautiful. Soft, well fitting (I'm 4 in JCrew Jackets ) - gorgeous. Unfortunately, all the final sale items I gambled on weren't that great and now I'm stuck with them!
ReplyDeleteMiss Penny, I really enjoyed that Page Six article! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteFunny thing about that striped silk blouse -- it looked kinda "meh" on the hanger but seeing how Marissa layered it with a bolder stripe on top and added the color punch of orangy-red pumps? Makes me now suddenly want that exact same outfit! Dang, I like her style! She injects a freshness to J Crew style without the overwrought layers we've seen in past seasons.
Ally - the Cece flats run a half size small for me. All other JCrew shoes are a 7 but my 3 pairs of Cece's are a 7.5.
ReplyDeleteLoved seeing Marissa in the Page Six article. I find I am more inspired by Marissa lately than Jenna ... her styling and use of color feel more fresh and wearable for my (boring) life.
ReplyDeleteWent to my B&M this morning for some birthday shopping and purchased the Flair skirt in Heather Acorn, the Betsy sweater in Henna, and the Toothpick cord in Navy. Took my normal size (4, S, 28R) in all three items, and I am so excited to wear them! Also happy to report that my mother is now officially a J. Crew convert, and will soon be sporting some Matchstick cords, Tippi sweaters and the stripe Saturday sweater in the flame/grey color. :)
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday, Joanie! That's great that you found some items that you love for your b-day. :)
ReplyDeleteVisited last week and have reviews of Liquid Silk Skirt, Jardin Skirt, Origami mini in Peony, Vintage Cotton stripe shoulder-zip tee here
ReplyDeleteOperach - FYI
ReplyDeleteThe link in your comment doesn't go to your blog.
Has anyone tried the Sidenote sweater? I am very intrigued by it but it is catalog only and haven't heard much about it.
ReplyDeleteOopsies! Thanks IRL!
ReplyDeletereviews of Liquid Silk Skirt, Jardin Skirt, Origami mini in Peony, Vintage Cotton stripe shoulder-zip tee here
There are quite a few skirts in the viridian green at the downtown Seattle store, if anyone is interested.

ReplyDelete"If I do not need and like an item enough at full price, I surely do not need it at any price."
I love this-so true! I spent the majority of my Sunday creating a huge consignment pile. It was rough at first but I feel great about the giant black trash bag going out the door and the space in my closet.
I visited the J.Crew B&M store in Estero, FL. The SA's there are wonderful and will honor the extra 30% off sale items (I always look online before I go so I can tell them) and then I get the 15% student discount. Picked up a couple tops and a pair of pants, but mainly went in to place an order on the red phone.
