This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)
If you are stopping by a J.Crew store this weekend to see what's available (if anything!) in the SUMMER sale, or to see some new FALL arrivals {sigh!} in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic!
Also, please let us know if your local store is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)
P.S. I noticed that many of you have already been reporting sale items (and in which stores) in other posts which by the way "thank you!" :) I really appreciate how helpful we are for each other!
Not going but like to hear about what others find :)
ReplyDeleteAlexis, the new blog header looks great!
Subscribing. :)
ReplyDeleteI stopped in yesterday so I won't be going this weekend. Tried the majesty peacoat in navy and loved the shape, heft, and color - the cheap buttons, notsomuch. It's definitely longer/leaner than the online photo would have you believe - I think those are all stretched out.
ReplyDeleteLooks like there is free shipping on select blazers and outerwear online. Not much of a promo since almost all of those are priced about $175 and would be eligible for FS anyway. C'mon JC, these 'promos' (or lack thereof) are seriously lame. I haven't purchased anything in over 6 weeks!
Actually, now that I look closer, the pieces that do not have free shipping are <$175. WTH? I hope this is a glitch that gets fixed this morning - otherwise, that's just mean.

ReplyDeleteI might pop in to see some of the new arrivals, but only for inspiration.
ReplyDeleteAlexis I love the new banner!
LOL! Never mind, looks like the helpful "free shipping" text is sitewide on every item that's over $175.
ReplyDeleteMommydearest & Ruffles: Thanks guys for the nice words on the new banner! :)
ReplyDeleteNothing for me ... I did notice that some of the prices on sale swimwear are starting to inch down in $5 increments. Also, some interesting 'extreme popbacks' are lurking about in the sale section ...
ReplyDeleteI won't be going. But I was wondering if any of you who have seen the No. 2 pencil skirt in vibrant flame know how similar it is to the deep persimmon one in color from 2008?
ReplyDeleteI love the new banner, Alexis!
ReplyDeleteI have two events to attend tomorrow and don't have time to go shopping this weekend.
silver_lining: I thought the same thing too about items over $175 and free shipping.
Not likely, since I was there last week.

Can someone help me with the "extended calf" option for boots? I'm 5'1" and 100 pounds but I have pretty muscular calves. Regular J.Crew boots zip up, but they're a little tight and so the fit looks off. Would the extended calf version just look too big, though?
ReplyDeleteI went in yesterday. I agree with silver_lining - the majesty peacoat is so lovely. Great shape - a little longer and leaner, stadium cloth is very plush. Fits TTS to my J. Crew coat size. It's $250 in store but $258 online. Weird.
ReplyDeleteI also tried on the tipped hacking jacket. It is beautiful, not itchy in the collar. Fits TTS.
I purchased the striped long sleeve painter tee in navy/grey. The fabric is so much more substantial than previous painter tees, which were loosely woven and stretched out. This one felt tightly woven and a little thicker. Hope it keeps its shape.
I might go to check out the new arrivals; am really curious to see the new peacoat that has been mentioned. Has anyone seen the October catalog in the store?
ReplyDeleteI did not see the new October catalog when I was in store on Wednesday.
ReplyDeleteBright Young Thing:
ReplyDeleteI'm 5'7" and I don't really have muscular calves and I always prefer the excalf because I like to tuck skinnies or pixie pants into them. They don't look any bigger IMO.
Also,on another note:
I stopped by my a B&M in center city that I don't usually get to and I bought a few basics on sale.
A bright dahlia summer scarf. It isn't the one online, but it looks very similar. Great color, $29.99.
The St. James Naval II Tee. Yes, on sale! (I already have a Meridian Tee and love it). The Naval II is blue with white stripes, $59.99.
The Vachetta Ranch Belt. I seem to have lost my classic brown belt from years ago and this fits the mold to replace it just fine. Great leather quality. It was on sale for $29.99.
Lastly, I grabbed the Commodore Coat. It's shorter than a trench which I love for this "in between" weather. Khaki, $49.99.

ReplyDeleteshopalot - My store had the October catalog when I was there last night.
ReplyDeleteI popped in today and posted some reviews of some new arrivals here.
ReplyDeleteI went in yesterday and picked up the sun drenched sweatshirt in bright dahlia and poppy. I LIVE in my grey one, so I need to add some color to my lounge wear rotation. Ordinarily, I wouldn't spend $80 on 2 sweatshirts, but these are really comfy and the colors are too pretty to pass on.
ReplyDeleteThanks, ladies. I decided to take a chance and pop in to the store and they DID have the October catalog out. I'm saving it for later. Friday night, pizza, glass of wine and new catalog makes me a happy woman. :)
ReplyDeleteI'd been eyeing the Cyndee dress for a while (I've got a million weddings this fall, all across the country, so a nice dress that could work with or without a cardigan was a must-buy) and had been planning to buy it at the $79.99 sale price...and this morning when I went to purchase, it was marked down even more to $49.99! $63 with shipping, but still - amazing deal.
ReplyDeleteJust popped by the 45th/Madison store in NYC at lunchtime as the weather has dropped about 15 degrees here since yesterday and I wanted to check out the fall coat selection. I'd fallen in love with the flared perfect coat online but was hoping an outerwear promo would come along before I would need it. Today I gave up on waiting because as soon as I saw it in store I was 10x more in love. The craftsmanship is really lovely, and the fabric and color are incredibly striking in person. Still crossing my fingers that a promo will come along on Monday whereby I can get an adjustment or return/repurchase but regardless this was one item for which I felt the quality was more in line with the price point than I've come to expect.
ReplyDeleteAs far as sizing, I took my usual size as I like a snug fit and generally don't wear anything that adds too much bulk, but if you want to layer underneath I would suggest sizing up as it is very tailored. The fact that it is so tailored makes the flared bottom dramatic and classically stylish all at once.
Otherwise, I didn't see too much from the new rollout that I had to have - which is probably for the best since I've only eliminated a fraction of my wishlist from fall rollout 1. They had a new metallic gold dress which was lovely in person but fit me kinda like a sack as I am pretty straight bodied and flat chested. I think it would look sensational on a curvier/bustier girl than myself. Wanted to try on the red dress with the exposed back zipper, which I thought was quite nice in person, but they didn't have my size on the rack and I had to head back to work in order to support my ongoing JC habit... ;)
Just in case this hasn't been mentioned elsewhere, the Fisherman sweater which is still full price online is $59.99 in stores in all colors.
I stopped by my B & M today to try on the new arrivals. I posted a review of the Hacking Jacket in tipped double-serge wool on my blog: http://jcrewismyfavstore.blogspot.com/
ReplyDeleteShopalot - that is the perfect Friday night, I'm so envious!
ReplyDeleteStopped by my JC-Park Meadows Mall to return my size 2 final sale shorts that actually were size 10 when I opened the bag.
ReplyDeletePurchased..
Perfect shirt in Blackwatch plaid, it is really nice and I will be returning the Perfect Shirt in Leopard next week, I really am not 100% in love with it.
Boatneck painter tee in stripe, color Vibrant Flame. I love the color but in a solid Tee was a little too much for me.
Vintage cotton stripe shoulder-zip tee - flapper grey. The neckline is exacly as you see online a little loose/slouchy but very cute on.
Tried on the Tissue pintuck tee (on sale) but it was way too low for me.
They did have the October catalog but I am going to see if mine comes over the weekend.
Hi love2shop4bags,
ReplyDeleteI have the cords and skirt in Persimmon from 2008 and saw the Vibrant Flame skirt at my local JC. I really feel the Vibrant Flame has more orange than the Persimmon which looks more red. Hope this helps!
I visited the Yorkdale Toronto store earlier today. A number of the new arrivals are in store but as of yet, there's no sale section in the store. They had the Winsome dress and the Natasha polka dot top, both of which are on my wish list. The Winsome dress is so gorgeous, but to me, it's definitely an " event" dress, and I'm not sure I would get much wear out of it. I did get to try on the Flair skirt for size, as they had the heather acorn and cool pine in stock, and I am hopeful I ordered the right size in the floral Flair skirt.
ReplyDeleteSlightly OT: I am going to be travelling for work in the next few weeks - is anyone familiar with the Reston, VA store? Is it a decent size and is the selection fairly good? If not, is there another store in the area you would recommend? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteLauraK, I'm with you on the sweatshirts. I picked another one up today since they are on sale. I feel like I live in mine.
ReplyDeleteI did get to try on the blackwatch plaid shirt but sadly it didn't work for me. This one does have 1% spandex I believe, which isn't my fav.
I did like the perfect shirt in navy plaid. Really nice with jeans!
Tried on the (black) Martina patent wedges, and they were lovely, but I can't justify the price :( Hopefully they go on sale sooner rather than later. Aah, I need them so bad.
ReplyDeletechasingxcars- I am in the same boat re:shoes! Oiy, the price!
ReplyDeleteThose Herringbone Minnies look so cute online! If anyone tries them on, please let me know about the fit. They don't look like they are "skinnies" on those models but then those models are so, so skinny.

ReplyDeleteFinally picked up my hemmed flare jeans. I LOVE these jeans! I hope they make them in different denim colors.
ReplyDeleteNews flash: my ps told me that Marissa Webb is out - they were told yesterday. Wonder what will happen now?
I tried on, really loved, and bought the stripe saturday sweater. TTS, although if you want more fitted, size down. I did not like the cape at all, not to mention the arm holes seem either too low or not big enough. The Betsy sweater is very soft, but not that flattering (at least on me). I like the jester sweater (tts), but not crazy about 3/4 sleeves. Not to mention it's not worth what they want. I didn't like the Natasha top on me (sized down). I really liked the finespun blouse tee (tts) and will pick one up on sale. I agree with everyone else that the herringbone dress should have sleeve liners - very itchy and not flattering.
One more thing - my ps said they got 2 bubble necklaces and they sold right away! :) Oh and the wait list is so long for the decadent red schoolboy that most probably won't get it. He had to order the cherry instead for one of his clients.
ReplyDeleteLots of sale items at the Lenox mall store in Atlanta, mainly tees and some of the silk shirts from the fall rollout, but nothing extra off. I made my return and left!
ReplyDeleteIf you do like Banana Republic, they had 40% off of all full price tops.
Somebody please tell me why the Moonlighter dress is described as BOTH a shift AND an A-line? In the same paragraph!
ReplyDeleteA shift dress can be an a-line. The mark of a shift dress is the lack of a waist. That dress is neither a shift nor an a-line. And it makes the thin model look huge, so I will be skipping it.
ReplyDeleteHopefully the CWFOS reads this blog, and will research shift dress. Google is a wonderful thing.

ReplyDeleteWFF and KitsMommy, ITA. That dress is neither a shift nor an A-line.
ReplyDeleteThe CWFOS has never known the difference between a sheath and a shift. They both start with "s-h" so the can't be that different, right? I've seen this mistake at J.Crew for a couple of years. I think that the CW must think that "shift" means any sleeveless dress. This goes hand in hand with the "Paris Maché" tee.
And don't get me started on the misuse of "button-down" . . .
Oh. Button-down. Yes. I feel your pain so do the collars of certain of my shirts. Well, if you've outsourced you manufacturing and procurement, it follows as the night the day that your copy will be written in a galaxy far, far away, where English is one of those exotic electives taken only the people who were too late to sign up for Venusian. Hoping Marissa finds her joy on Planet Earth, where a lot of us would really like to see what she can do.
ReplyDeleteSorry, typos in previous post were brought to you courtesy of iPhone. Sigh.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the others...I fell in love with the Majesty Peacoat! I just received my metro coat, but it didn't cut in around the waist like I wanted it to. The Majesty is so flattering and sooo soft. My PS ordered it for me in the hthr honey and it should be here soon :) It just makes since for me not to tailor the long jacket and just keep one that fits perfectly already.
ReplyDeleteP.S. I wear a size 4 in tops and this was a true size for. No vanity sizing, it fits perfectly.
How are the buttons on the Majesty Peacoat? I keep reading they aren't attached very well....I love the shape and color of both the Majesty and Perennial Peacoat...just wish the Perennial was in the stores.
ReplyDeleteNicole - The buttons felt like they were attached well on the one I tried in the store. It was a brand new one, just out of the box. They did feel slightly cheap, but didn't look that way. I should be receiving my honey colored one on Monday, I will report back on the buttons on that one as well :)
ReplyDeleteMy local (friendship heights, DC) store ran out of the size 0 wool capris this weekend. Has anyone tried them? Are they TTS? Help. I want to order them before they are backordered to 2015!!!!
ReplyDeletehookedoncrew - I have the Lolli's from last year in a 2. I also have two pairs of the Wool Cafe Capri's from this year in 2 and I think they run TTS. Maybe a tad smaller in the hip. If you are normally a 0, I would go with it. If you are in between sizes, and want a little more room, you may want to go up. Hope that helps!
ReplyDeleteIt helps a lot susanzk! Thank you. I am ordering now--only backordered to October in the sz 0 navies. Many thanks :)
