J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs!}

This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.

So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.

In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)

  2. Has anyone tried on or seen the Natasha blouse in polka dot - I think the dots are black, but want to be sure!

Also - could use some advice - am about to buy either the cashmere henley or the cashmere vneck. I will need to wear it to work. Anyone have a preference and why?

  3. Hi WMM - I can't really tell! On my monitor the dots almost look like they alternate between grey and black.

  4. WMM: I tried on the Natasha polka dot blouse last week. The dots are black but appear faded as the silk chiffon is sheer (no worries though, the blouse is lined so it's not see through). The fit is boxy and a little generous - I sized down to a size 4.

LOVE!!! Fabric is so soft and the cut is extremaly flattering.
Falls to low hip on me (I am 5'6") and nips in the waist. Fits TTS no need to size down. I actually took 8 which is one size up from my dress size which I often do in outerwear to be comfortable wearing bulkier sweaters. The shoulders were not too wide in 8 but I am narrow in shoulders and bigger in chest.
I love the gold buttons and navy is a gorgeous bright shade.
I got it with 20% off which helped to ease the pain, but I feel like this is the classic done just right and worth the splurge for me.
    Cannot wait to wear it!

    Valentina Pumps in Coral
I got them from JCA exchange and I love them! Thank you Lydia!!!
They run SMALL! I wear 8 or 8.5 in other brands, and 39 or 38.5 Euro. I almost always wear 8.5 in J Crew heels and 9 is almost always too big in any brand and any shoe shape. These are a 9 and the fit is perfect. The color is TDF and I love how it can spice up neutral outfits. It goes perfectly with black, grey, brown, camel, navy etc. It is more vibrant than it seems from wesite pictures.
Overpriced at FP, but if they go on sale or promo I would recommend them because of leather lining, 'naked' cut, and just the rigth heel hight. They are very soft and I did not notice any glue residue or strange odors. Check them out on Chloe Conspiracy, she wears hers a lot (this is what made me lust after them).

  7. Check out the new issue of Vogue. Michelle Williams who is channeling Marilyn Monroe, is wearing J Crew--the houndstooth cafe capris and a cashmere cardigan.

  8. Anyone know what the skirt is on page 7 of the October catalogue? I'd love a review!

  10. I have a few tops reviews on my blog including the polka dot blouse and a poncho.

SE Mom, if I'm not mistaken, I also have a review of the item you are questioning.

  11. Just a heads up-if you live in Arkansas, the Little Rock store opened today. Woo-hoo! Too bad I'm 2 1/2 hours away and they didn't promote it ahead of time. I'd already planned to be there on opening day.

  13. fshonmymind:

"Holy boxy top" is right! LOL!
I am short, so that is not going to be a good style for me.

    Thanks for the review!

  14. SE Mom -- The Merino Boyfriend Sweatshirt was on my list of items to try, and it didn't disappoint. I love it. The shape is definitely boxy when you lay it out flat, but on me it becomes a flattering, swingy look. I think the drape is beautiful; I plan to wear it with skinny jeans and heeled boots.

I tried the S and XS and although both fit, the S was a touch longer (I'm 5'5") and where it hit my hip was a bit more flattering than the XS.

I can totally see where fshnonmymind is coming from in that the sweater didn't work for her. I am very small-busted so it lays completely differently on me. I think this one (like the Flair Skirt) all comes down to body proportion, not necessarily "only for tall women" or "only for small-waisted women".

    HTH!

  15. The Darlington Pursette has made it to the sale section in the black colorway. I have a review of the bag on my blog here.

I was undecided on this one because I love the indigo color but there are a few negatives so I'll likely be returning it soon.

  16. Lipstick fashion! I just love how the makeup is styled in the catalogs, the dewy neutral face with the coral red lips. I have been searching high and low for an alternative to the Poppy/Lipstick Queen Lipstick (don't live near a store and not going to pay $8.95 shipping for a lipstick that is already $17).

I have some alternatives to report. My most favorite is NYX lipstick in Eros, #536, $3.99 at Ulta. It's matte but blots pretty well. Other lower priced alternatives are Revlon Moon Drops in (I think) Hot Coral and Revlon Super Lustrious in Fire and Ice. It comes down to formula. All are matte but for me the NYX is least drying. Nars Heatwave is another option, but of course more expensive than the Lipstick Queen (but available at Sephora).

Hope that helps someone. I've been using the Urban Decay Naked palette for the neutral eyes. NYX has a nice neutral eye palette for $10 as well, great for travel (in case something happens to it). As for the perfect, dewy skin, well a girl can wish!

  17. Clicquot,

Thanks for sharing your perspective too. I did order it yesterday with the 20% off, so we'll see what happens!

  18. Just opened and reboxed for return the Hacking Jacket in Cashmere. After being very pleasantly surprised with the Technicolor Tweed Jacket, I decided to further test the Collection waters with this purchase. Unfortunately the designer must have been thrown overboard during the design and execution stage of this jacket, mateys. It is a huge disappointment, especially in comparison to my older JC jackets. The lining is boring, no beautiful silk piping, the cashmere looks more like a granny-esque gabardine, the fit is odd in that the lapels seem to angle inwards sharply, resulting in a rather petulant refusal to lie flat and once again, cheap buttons!!! I would walk right past this in a department store. My word verification is strang-as in I would like to strang-le the person responsible for the poor decision making that resulted in this jacket. I hope you are reading, Mr. Drexler.

  23. I got the Pixel Dot Perfect Shirt in a size 0 a few days ago. I had previously hoped to score it on-sale, but it sold out in my size so quickly that when it popped back, I pounced.

I'm glad I did. This shirt is a lovely, silky piece that goes with almost everything in my closet. It fits TTS, imo. Go with your usual numerical top size.

One down-side is that it's sheer, which surprised me. From the pictures, I thought it was more cotton than silk, but it's the opposite so you'll need a cami underneath.

  24. Anyone have reviews on the Flair skirt in plaid? I'm assuming it fits the same as the solid flair skirts, but with j.crew you never know. And is the plaid as lovely and vibrant as it's showing online? Would appreciate any insight!

And for those of you who have tried the Poppy King lipstick, what do you think? Worth the hype? or is it just as good to find a decent alternative?

    TIA!

  25. AppGal -- I bought the Poppy King lipstick, untried, based solely on other JCA reviews. I have only very recently tiptoed into bright lipstick territory (I'm a neutral girl with VERY pale skin), and I am quite happy with the Poppy King shade. I think I'd say MAC is the closest in terms of the actual 'feel' of the lipstick.

  26. AppGal, I tried plaid Flair skirt sometime ago and the fit is the same as in solids. The fabric is slightly different though, felt rougher and not so plush. The fabric on rose skirt is much nicer though. Hth.

  27. Has anyone tried on the Nicos wrap heels? I am loving them on-line but do not have access to a B&M store to try them on. I am a bit leery of JC shoe sizing this year after hearing so many JCAers say the Monas run half a size small.

    Are the Nicos TTS? Small?

    Thanks

  28. I just posted a review of the Teddie dress in saddle, if anyone is interested in this color.

  29. I was hoping to get some feedback on the new wool cafe capris.

Unfortunately, the new cafe capris don't work well for my body shape. I fluctuate between sizes; the smaller one feels a bit too snug at my waist, and the larger one feels a bit too loose at my rear and hips.

I know these are 100% wool, but I was wondering if anyone who has had experience wearing them for a bit already could comment on whether give/stretch a bit.

Also, has anyone noticed that certain colors within this style in the same size fit differently (e.g., camel vs. yacht blue)?

    Thanks!

  30. love2shopforbags--I came here explicitly to post on the new cafe capris (on which I had posted a question last week).

They do NOT fit like the classic cafe capris, of which I have the 2008-2011 models. They tend to run tight, and they are much more tapered. I typically wear P0, but am now waiting for P2 to see how that works.

Question for others: the cashmere s/s tees. Do they run large?
