"Looking to VENT" with J.Crew

This is the weekly "Looking to VENT with J.Crew" post, a place to share our not-so-stellar experiences with J.Crew.

If you have recently experienced a frustrating situation with J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including poor experiences with purchases & orders, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. I am quite perturbed with the Crew. I submitted an order LAST Monday and it arrived yesterday - over a week to pull and ship. I live 2 hours from the warehouse! The order contained a couple of things I wanted to take to beach. I was beginning to think it wouldn't get here before I left. Now one of the shirts while NWT has one of the defect arrow stickers on the shirt! You can see the fabric flaw. Great quality control. I can only hope my local Jcrew has this shirt in stock - not like I have time to deal with it. BOO!

  2. I'm really upset that my floral long swing skirt got cancelled. The inventory issues are quite ridiculous.

  3. My vent this week, in addition to last week's complaint that they are no longer putting back vents in the suiting dresses, is that the armholes on the knit dresses are always too big, exposing the sides of my bra. It would be nice not to have to wear a camisole under every knit dress.

  4. Cass, I noticed that on Exchange dress, but my Attache dress has a back vent and I saw new version of Emmaleigh in stores and it has vents as well, so hopefully it is not a trend.

I just noticed Attache dress is back to full price, wth?

  5. MaryMoo,

I have gotten those stickers on so many items over many years. Bikini bottoms, wool lined pants, etc. Their quality control is awful. I don't understand how they can ship stuff to people with the defective red arrow stickers on them!!!!

That is why I keep my expectations low for J.Crew and don't get as excited as I used to. Maybe it was the fact that I ordered SO MUCH that defective items in multiples would happen but I just got so soick of dealing with it and wasting my TIME:)

Still love J.Crew but try not to set myself up for disappointment!

  6. ajc, I had that problem on the exhange, allura, and town hall dresses. Glad to know not all of them are like that.

  8. OT: I would really like to get the Jackie cardi in Cerise (bright orange) but haven't been able to find it in my nearby stores. It's also showing as backordered (till September!) online. Has anyone seen this particular color in a size small in their local b&ms? and if so, what's the price on it right now? TIA!

  9. I received a defective featherweight cashmere cardigan, which was on final sale. The problem is at the placket area. It's all wonky there, won't lie flat either buttoned or unbuttoned. Seems like a problem within the knit itself. I called CS to see if they could at least exchange for the same item (it looks like there are still some left onlne) but was told there's nothing they can do. They said I can bring it to a store and they may be able to "fix" it with tailoring. Um, even I know that you cannot tailor away a knitting flaw. Oh well, this is my lesson buying final sale. Never again. Hah! My word verification is "unable"! LOL

  10. Tamara, bring the item to a store saying it's defective and you want a refund. I have never had a problem getting a refund in-store on defective items, even if they are final sale from online. The online rep probably just has to tow the company line over the phone.

  11. Tamara - definitely call back. I received a final sale cashmere cardigan with a broken button last week, and I called CS and she immediately ordered a new one with some kind of double check on it (we'll see if that actually happens). I'd try again, I've never had a problem returning/exchanging FS stuff if there's actually something wrong with it.

  12. I can't complain about the quality of the purchase, because I never got to order it! A skirt I wanted on sale had been in stock all yesterday up to 7:35 PM when I ordered it. By the time I clicked the submit button on the FINAL page (I had entered the credit card number and everything) it was apparently sold out.

  13. Overall I am typically happy with JCrew. I have noticed that they ship quicker than they used to and faster than most of the other retailers I use but as with everything there is a down side and this is the place for it, right? Here are my biggest complaints with Jcrew:

1-Women's button ups / downs have weak under arm seams. Why do my mens and boys shirts not pull like the womens? Do they think because I am a girl I don't move my arms as much?

2- I wish they would send my cancellation email after they are sure they don't have the item I wanted. I got a cancellation email the day after I submitted my order. The next morning it was clearly for sale again and I reordered it (received today). Sure you don't want to wait too long but I would like to feel like you actually made sure you don't have it.

3-I HATE tissue / thin tees. I am over it. The thread bare look isn't what I am looking for from Jcrew. Typically when my shirts were that worn as a child it was time to throw them out. I'm not looking for the same look as an adult. Call me old fashion but I am still in my 20s so I find that hard say. Can I also mention that my button back tee came unbottoned today... : ) oh boy.

  15. AppGal - I haven't seen the cerise for awhile and I never saw it on sale in my store. Of course that doesn't mean it wasn't, but I recall a couple sets of colors getting marked down over the past 5 mo or so and neither set included the cerise.

  16. Recvd another incorrect order. It's tagged S and the bag is S, but the sweater is L.

It was a popback & no longer available, of course.

    THANKS!

  17. Tamara,

It's worth trying to call CS again. I was told I couldn't return 2 defective tees even thought they were NWT because my order was over 60 days old. I e-mailed CS and was told the associate I spoke to was misinformed and allowed to return the tees. Hope everything works out for you.

  19. ARGH! I'm actually up at midnight and they STILL have not updated their promo code. It's still showing HOTDAYS. grr...

  20. Hi, OperaRach, yes, it's Thursday, do you know where the new roll-out is?

  21. Perks of being west coast it's only 9:37 and I still don't see an update. The same happened with the summer roll out. I dont think it actually updated until the small hours of morning then and I can imagine it is likely again.

I'm hoping they have enough of the good stuff this time (Jardin and paisley skirt ring a bell).

  22. This is kind of a minor gripe, but I had to share. Last weekend during the JC cardholder promo (not the one for "select" cardholders), I finally ordered the confetti pendant necklace that I had been coveting. It arrived today and the necklace is lovely. But the box it came in is huge! The box was literally twelve times the size of the jewelry box inside. Call me crazy, but I don't like to be so wasteful.

  23. Grr! My tea-stained dobby dress in an xs was canceled this morning after four days of the order being "open". If anybody had one they would like to part with, I'd be happy to take it off of your hands :)...

  24. Ahhh - I tried to order the Bevin blouse in White Ash Size 12, and it seemed like it was there, but when I placed the order, they no longer had it. (So, if anyone has one they'd like to part with....). But, to their credit, they did do a store check for me, which was nice. Still - I really wanted that blouse. That will show me for waiting for final sale!

  25. I am getting annoyed with J.Crew's shipping. I get an email that my order has "shipped" and then when I click on tracking, it simply states that a label has been created. I have an order that has been languishing this way since last Friday. I placed the order Thurs., it supposedly shipped Friday, and it is Monday right now (mid-day) and it appears UPS STILL DOES NOT EVEN HAVE POSSESSION of it. Come on!

I guess I just don't want to be teased and told it has shipped, when it really hasn't. Has anyone else had this issue?
