J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs!}

This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.

So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.

In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)

  1. Received the Perfect Shirt in Liberty Wildbloom print. Gorgeous, summery shades of lavender, and the saturated floral pattern is a nice change from all the stripes and plaids I've been buying lately. Looks great with white, olive, and any blue or denim. Fits TTS. I still think the Liberty prints are $$$ at 89.99-139.99 on sale vs. other shirts; I'm not sure why they have to be double the price.

  2. i just received the stripe pocket cardigan in navy/black.it fits TTS and it is cute.i was just surprised how thin the material is,it feels like a t-shirt.
i also got the vintage bateau top in pewter.love it! i was afraid that since it was a popback that i might receive a wrong item or size, but is was perfect!
the third item i got was a stretch bracelet with pearlfringe on it in gold.it is very nice and fits my tiny wrist.

  3. Pics and reviews of the Boy shirt in ikat madras, Caroline dress, and new color of the sun-drenched sweatshirt on my blog here.

Also...review on the most recent Eyelet pencil skirt version here.

  4. Update on a previous review of the Loretta sandals. I had bought and returned them in black b/c I felt the front was cutting into the top of my feet. But I couldn't resist giving them another whirl in the red color which is so fab! They still felt like they might cut into the front top of my feet, but I kept them and tried them out yesterday. I'm happy to report that they gave and did not cut into my feet at all. Phew! They are pretty comfortable for a higher heel and so dang cute! Of course got compliments on them at our family bbq.

  7. I am scheduled to receive several orders this week... all sale items but I will post reviews for anything particularly noteworthy!

  8. While thumbing through the July catalog, I stopped on the Minnetonka Moccasins p. 17. I find it curious that the words say "made in Minnesota since 1946" but when you look at the inside of B. pull on fringe booties, it clearly says "made in Dominican" and the description says "import." Isn't that false advertising?

  9. LizzyT I know several people here have tried and loved the accordian dress. I was going to try it, but it's sold out in my size. But you can probably go back and see reviews and comments. HTH!

  10. Can anyone comment on the sizing of the stripe silk tee (41950)? It looks like I could size down but just want to make sure. I've seen IRL pics but haven't read many reviews. Thanks!

  11. Lizzy T, I haven't tried the Accordion Dress myself, but I've read several reviews that all say it runs really large...1-2 sizes big. I normally wear a 0 in the suiting dresses, so I'm waiting for a 00 to pop back - not sure I like my chances!

  12. Hi guys, I tried on the Femme Ruched Tank in Casablanca Blue. I first had it in the long torso because I *always* require a long torso, but not with this on. Back went the long torso, and on to the regular. In swim I usually size up, but not with this swimsuit. The Casablanca Blue is a gorgeous color. The ruching lays nicely. Overall, it's a more modest suit but one I can wear with my toddlers and not worry something is about to fall out. Also, I dearly wish J Crew would add a leeeetle bit of padding to the tops, but I'm adding in Lingerie Solutions Water Push Up pads to remedy that issue.

  13. ...And I should add that with the 20% off swim and free shipping, I may go back for another ruched femme tank!

  14. I was hoping to get a review of either the Casbah underwire halter top (item 44504) and bikini as well as the Islet paisley hidden underwire ruched bandeau top (37343) and bikini. I am a very small 34 B. The last suit I bought from J crew was really big. I kept it, but no heavy swimming will be done in this suit, as it may fall off. The last suit purchased was the Wildbloom halter top and bikini (item 36291). I ordered the small top, def could have gone XS. The bottoms I also got small (usually wear a medium) and they also could have been smaller. Any words of advice before I bite on these suits. At least they aren't FS :) Thanks in advance you fabulous JCA's!

  15. Lizzy T - Accordion dress on Audreybella and on Prepstyle.

    Size 4 - chest = 35.5", waist = 31"
    Size 6 - chest = 36.5", waist = 32"

  16. Has anyone tried the Linen Cape Cardigan? Would love to know how it fits. I am thinking I would need to size down from a S or XS. Could anyone help with the sizing?

    ReplyDelete
  17. Tara Lane: I agree...the Ruched Femme tank is wonderful. I actually did go up a size though, to a 6 from my usual 4, and it still fits just fine. This wasn't by choice though...it was the only size that popped back in the particular color I wanted! I did buy a second one with the swim promo because it is such a great suit. I also agree that they need to start adding some padding to their suits...not too much, but enough that I'm not showing my headlights to everyone at the beach :)

  18. Does anyone know if the Zadie dress runs big or small? I'm debating between a 2 or 4. The SA told me: "Because of the way the dress is made, there's no bust measurement. The waist is 28.5" for size 2, 29.5" for size 4."
    I think 28.5 seems big for a 2!

    ReplyDelete
  19. Leslie lace shell in this post and links to 2 other blogger irl pics.

Kundalynnie Rising - A 28" waist on a 2 sounds like it's running a little big. It's a flapper style, so maybe it's cut a little bigger for the look.

  20. jinks,

Yes, I had to size down on the linen cape cardigan - no question!! It's adorable, and I love it, but my first order, of my regular cardigan size, was too big!

    Enjoy!

  21. Did a review of the Elsa jacket, the Caroline dress, and the Paisley Pencil Skirt. I love them all, so if you are looking for a negative review, this is the wrong post to go to. LOL. :)

  22. As a follow up to dina's review:

If any size 4 JCAs are looking for the the Paisley Pencil Skirt, I saw 3 of them at the Friendship Heights store in DC this afternoon. Not my size, but thought I'd share.

  23. AppGal, I went back for the ruched femme in black. I was thinking of waiting until later in the season but I was worried all my sizes would be gone, and the free shipping decided it for me.

  24. This is a bit off topic, but I am so bummed! I got an email saying my purple Jardin skirt has been cancelled! I ordered it the day it came out! WTH???

  25. I got the back-zip tank in ivory size S. I usually take a M but I've noticed that when J Crew make tops that go down to XXS that I should size down. It's nice but the ivory is a little sheer, which I hate. Fits well though. I might get a different color.
Got the vintage cotton cowlneck tank in blossom size S. Love it. It fits well, drapes nicely, and it's a gorgeous color.
Swoop tee in S. Got 3 different colors and I really like them.
Also purchased the silk Sophie blouse in weathered wood size 8. This is my normal size in blouses and it is TTS. The color is gorgeous and rich. Love it.
Lastly, I got the Captain's cardigan in faded black, size M. This is my normal size for cardigans. It fits well, the color is really nice, and looks really good.

  26. Unisex Saint James Meridien II nautical tee with a white background and blue stripes. Wore once and washed and the blue bled into the white. GASP! Totally followed the care instructions and hoping its just a fluke. JCrew was, of course, GREAT about giving us an exchange. Here's hoping #2 is better!

  27. Just got the Jardin skirt dropped off by UPS (late, right?) and immediately tried it on. I am going to wait to do a proper blog review w/pics after I get it steamed and dream up some outfit ideas, but here are my first thoughts:

Fits tts...bought in my usual size 4 and it is a good fit. It is a true midi skirt, hitting below my knees (yay!) I was worried about the length, but it's perfect for me. It's also slim in the waist like a midi, so if you are more apple shaped, you may want to size up. I am thick-waisted but I think I can stick with the 4. Color (purple) is gorgeous. Material is nice...very comfortable and flowy.

Like I said, I'm going to steam it, think of some proper shoes and a top to take pics with, and will post on my blog tomorrow morning. Overall though, I think it's a keeper!

  28. Okay, haha...I couldn't wait and went ahead and took pics of the Jardin to post. It isn't with the best outfit, but it works for review purposes. See the post here.

I bought the Accordian Dress in a 0 when it first came out. It was so big on me. I had to return it. The construction of the dress is BEAUTIFUL. The pleating was lovely. Too bad it was just too big.

  30. I reviewed the flared Ethel trench last Friday - beautiful piece.

  31. Iris tortoise sandals... If you're at all in doubt, size up. I am not a half size but am like, a quarter size... and I wish I would have sized up to the next whole size. They are pretty narrow but actually quite comfy even in the too-small size!

  32. received my sundrenched sweatshirt in wavecrest color, and LOVE IT!! I am going to get another color, or two, in this awesome sweatshirt!!

  34. Picked up the Maritime Stripe Blazer last week. They only had one XS left on the rack and I was doubtful that it would even fit me but I tried it anyway. Very cute, and surprisingly, it fit! I normally take a 4 in structured blazers and a 2 in unstructured ones, so you could likely size down for this one, or if you're in between sizes.

The cotton is nice and thick, and even though it's a more casual style, it has very nice tailoring and I was able to dress it up with a pencil skirt and heels. It's also super cute with shorts and over sundresses.

  35. Does anyone have a review on the Cotton blousanna top (42248)? I just came across it in the sale section and am in love with the pink color. I'm thinking it's probably a little on the big side, but don't want it to be too tight in the shoulders. Have to make the right call the first time since it's final sale :o( Thanks for the help!

  36. Has anyone tried the Quorra peeptoe booties? I have never bought J.CREW shoes. At other stores I fluctuate between 7.5 and 8 but I have wide feet. Any advice out there? TIA!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Thanks so much for the info Suzy.
I definately think I'm gonna have to give it a try. I wish I would have noticed that it was on sale when the last 30% off came around and before the dreaded final sale. Has anyone ever asked Jcrew CS or made a suggestion that instead of flat out final sale they could issue store credit on final sale returns? Thanks again Suzy.

  38. Clicquot - which color of the Striped Maritime Blazer did you get? I'm curious to know what people think of the 2 colors. Thanks.

  39. Wendy, do you think the Accordion Dress could be altered down at all? I haven't seen it in person, and I imagine that the pleats would make altering it difficult, but I thought I'd ask :). TIA!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Caitlin,

Yes it can be altered, but it is difficult and expensive. I have pictures on my blog, but with all the pleats, it cost over $40....

    HTH

  43. JuneBug682 -

I ordered the Cotton Bloussana top in the last 30% off promo. Unfortunately it was a little too "little House on the prairie" for me. I even tried ironing the puff at the shoulders down but even that didn't work. The color is lovely and I love the idea but the body was boxy and too big and the sleeves were really not attractive. The only way to depouf was to hold the shirt at the wrist while I was wearing it. HTH!

  44. maryeb --> they only had Dragonfly Blue (white with navy stripe) at the store I was in so I can't compare. I looked at the Navy w/ white stripes online and personally don't like it as much.

  45. Canteen pant in this post. $29.99 online, $19.99 in-stores.

  46. @Bourbon&Pearls,
Thanks for the reivew of the Trench! I think it is going to be too heavy for my climate. I also did not like how the belt had to be tied. It seems too fussy to be practical for my harried lifestyle. Thanks again. I need to cancel my preorder with my PS now. My purse and hubby thank you as well. LOL

  47. @WFF,
Thanks for the review of the Cascade dress! I have been eyeing it for a while. I LOVE the way you write in your reviews. I feel like I am being drawn into a novel and can't wait to get to the end to see how the whole thing turns out! I thought you were going to keep the white dress but then, slam, the wrinkles were the last straw. :)

  48. I am reviewing the Merkato Midheel Wedges, item 43544. They are on final sale. I was fortunate to have ordered them prior to final sale. I would say they fit TTS. I have a wide foot and I don't know if that had anything to do with it but I found that the very first strap over the toes were placed in such a way that my baby toe on each foot rubbed against it. The very top of the baby toes rubbed continuously regardless of how I tried to reposition my foot. It was very uncomfortable. The first strap should have been placed a little bit lower than it was. The wedge was fine and the rest of the straps were fine. I have WAY TOO MANY JC shoes and find that this summer the leather seems thinner and not as substantial and high quality as the leather shoes I have purchased at JC in the past. I am going to return these shoes.

  49. Received my Summer Jacket in Crisp Linen today and I loooove it! I ordered it in a size 2 and thought it might be too big (I am consistently a 0 in dresses and tops, but I can wear a 0 or 2 in Perfect Shirts and needed a 2 in the Lady Day coat), but it is perfect. Great through the shoulders, nice and slim through the armpits/arms (extra armpit fabric on blazers is a huge pet peeve of mine), trim through the chest but buttons up nicely, maybe a tiny bit of extra fabric at the waist but gives a great silhouette, nice and long for a different look from the more cropped schoolboy style blazers. It is finished beautifully and I love the fabric. Highly recommend this one, especially if you can snag it on sale!

  50. Forgot to add: also received my Paisley Pencil Skirt (I did a WWFIFY after it sold out online) and it is beautiful as well. Fits perfectly in my usual 00, hit me an inch or two above the knee (I am 5'9) and the fabric and pattern are beautiful.

  51. Hi JCA's,

This is my time posting on this blog- really appreciate your reviews and other information.
I was wondering if anyone has tried the Salina sandals. I really like how they look online, but as they are on final sale, would want to be sure before buying it. Does it fit tts? Is the ankle band comfortable? Any other insights are welcome. Thanks soo much!!

    ReplyDelete
  52. Oh, forgot to put in my previous comment- has anyone tried the silvana sandals? I'm trying to decide between the silvana and salina sandals and looking for some reviews from JCAs.

    Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  53. I'd love a review on the Salina sandals, too (or just J Crew flat leather sandals in general??). I'm consistently a size 7.5m in shoes. 8s are almost always too big, and I can quite often get away with a size 7m (I have a pair of Nine West and BCBG that are 7 that fit well).
