J.Crew Celebrates Tree Lighting At Rockefeller (NYC)

Over at the Guest of a Guest blog, there is a great post (click here) about a Rockefeller Tree lighting party held at the J.Crew Rockefeller Center store. (The party was hosted by The Vanity Fair, Swarovski, & J.Crew teams.)
There are lots of great images of the party (click here) and the guests attending, including Jenna Lyons (click here). All I kept thinking when looking at the images was for the people to move out of the way so I can get a good look at the clothes in the store! ;)
What a fabulous party- not only do the guests have a great (and warm) view of the tree lighting at Rockefeller Center, they get to watch it from a beautifully decorated J.Crew store! How I *so* would have loved to have been there! ;)

  3. Alexis, is it possible to start the seek & finds a little earlier at least for the holidays, like Thursday? I know the b&ms get mobbed and I for one try to avoid the crowds of the weekend by going on Friday early morning. Also seems like markdowns are done on Thursday evenings.

  4. Suilove: Too funny! I get excited when I notice J.Crew on tv too! ;) There was a post awhile back (click here) that had an image (click here) of Betty wearing the "bright saffron" French serge day coat. :)

Anon at 8:21PM: I am happy to hear I am not the only one who was interested in seeing the clothes in the store! ;)

  5. Anon at 8:25 PM: I have this week's Seek & Find all set to go for midnight. But I think your suggestion is a great one! With the holiday season and all the sales, it makes sense to have the post a day earlier when stores start the promotions. I will make sure that the next few weeks of the Seek & Find post will be on Thursday. :)

  8. A SA at my local B&M store invited me to a private event next Wednesday. They are receiving new items and I also get a $10 gift card for each $100 spent.

Maybe other stores will be having something similar soon?

    ReplyDelete
  9. SanFranciscoCA: You are not the only one who mentioned that! leogrl6787 in the post "Extra 20-30% Off Sale At J.Crew Going On Now :)" also mentioned that her store next Tuesday was having a holiday party where shoppers get 25% off. :)

I wonder if all stores will have something similar?

    Congrats on the invite!!! :)

  10. OT- There is an article in the January Marie Claire featuring Lisa Finkelstein (jewelry design director). She is wearing an entire J Crew outfit and gives her answers to questions about splurging and saving tricks. She's wearing her splurge, an ivory colored dress (looks like silk taffeta but just says "party dress") and is also wearing the Decade Dot jacket, the bugle beaded bug pin (I think), a $150 necklace and bracelets that I can't place.

She looks cute in the jacket and ivory dress, that's for sure!

Sorry I can't scan the article, maybe someone else can?

It's nice to see something positive from J Crew for the spring.

  11. wooow, I'm sorry, but what was Jenna thinking? What a mish-mash of colors.

    ReplyDelete
  12. That looks like fun, but it cracks me up that in a store that is pushing COLOR COLOR COLOR, Probably 95% of the people are wearing black or other neutrals. ;-)

  13. Okay, I agree....what the hell is Jenna wearing???? Honestly...she does not look well put together...what a disappointment.

  14. Go to the site that Alexis posted and actually look at the other pics from the party...Alexis was kind in choosing the best one of Jenna...the others are not so kind.

  15. Sorry to say, either it was a bad night for Jenna Lyons, or else she has been ill.....she picked out the WORST outfit for herself. The makeup she had on made her look washed out.

  16. Soory, OT:
I just got a phone message from my local J crew:
Personal thank you to each and other J crew customer, inquirey whether I fot my 25% off card and invitation to chek new colelction which we'll be hitting the floor on Monday.
3 weeks ago I got a phone message from another one of my local J crew stores; long lost PS called to check up on me.Hmm, I am still here.:)
I believe that J Crew is trying to strengthen relationship with its customers base.:)
    Anyone else has similar experiences?

  17. I haven't gotten any invites or phone calls and I've been in my local B&M three times this week :( They're probably mad at me because I keep bringing them so many online returns/problems! I feel bad but it's the only store within an hour and a half, so I have no choice but to return to them.

    *slastena*
I commented on your blog...wondering what you're going to wear with the dusty rose and gold (jeans) belts? I have them too and need fashion advice! TIA!

  18. Sounds like fun, but I have to agree that Jenna's outfit was just horrible...what could she have been thinking?

    Great post Alexis!

  19. Jena hasn't had her Mommy Makeover courtesy of Dr. Rey yet....pooch still in place. Maybe she plans on adding to the brood. Still-Jena, if you're going to wear a tight, high waisted skirt in a light color, spend a few moments testing it out at home with a nice pair of Spanx and a 3-way mirror.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Gee... I almost didn't recognize Jenna. Honestly, that outfit and makeup and hair are all horrid on her. In particular, the skirt color neither flatters her body, nor goes well with the rest of her outfit. And her eye makeup is really making her washed out and looking sick!

I thought she looked quite nice in some other photos I've seen in the past though.

  21. slastena - yea i have gotten a few calls from my ps and another one (maybe he is a rogue trying to steal me from my ps...). they kept calling about rewards cards, and if i'd spent them....they were gone the day i got them!
anyways i live in the dc area if that helps! they also sent me a letter with the Very Merry Gift Guide (same one at registers everywhere, nothing special). i was hoping since it was thick it was a gift card, but no :(

  22. OMG...what was Jenna thinking is the first thing that came to mind when I saw the pic of her. I don't care what she may be thinking, but she does NOT look fashionable in that outfit.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Looks like it would have been a fun event to attend.

OT - If anyone has a 25% off red card that they are willing to part with, please contact me at kmtaing@yahoo.com. I would be so grateful. TIA!

  24. OMG--Just what are those ill fitting clothes, colors and death by tights that we see Jenna wearing...gasp!?

I believe she needs to get a stylist...LOL!

Hmmmm...Phillip was there, he must have thought she looked like hell in a hand basket. Probably dying to slip her his card:0)

    ReplyDelete
  25. I actually think jenna's outfit is fine minus the tights and the shoes. Yes, the skirt is a little tight...perhaps she will have more sympathy in designing those pencil skirts for real women's bodies in the future? Make them less skin tight, please!

    ReplyDelete
  26. ^are you looking at the same pictures?? one word comes to mind, dumpy.

    ReplyDelete
  27. omg that outfit is yikes. maybe *maybe* she could have gotten away with the orange and yellow with dark jeans, or the skirt with some holiday-ish silver top. but the tights, and throwing PINK rimmed shoes in the mix? my eyes, my eyes!

    ReplyDelete
  28. lovely sounding event, though. i was just a little distracted by the onslaught of colors. i hope the 25% pass and these type of events are the new perks for being cardmembers or frequent shoppers. makes the bill i'm racking up a little less painful ; )

    ReplyDelete
  29. I think she looked washed out because the pictures were overexposed a bit? You'll have to ask the people who attended the event whether her makeup was too underdone.

I think the sweater and skirt looked fine. Actually one of my favorite combo is yellow with light grey. Those tights have to go!

I didn't think the skirt was that ill fitting on her either, but then I am not a size 0 or 2 so I sympathize with a little bit of extra baby fat.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Oh, and was she wearing the schoolgirl cashmere cardigan in honey glaze with the grey sharkskin skirt?

    ReplyDelete
  31. I have to say, these pics make the store seem bigger than it really is. I visited this store this morning. They sure cleaned up well. Every last bit of clothing was perfectly folded. I mean, it was as if they laid them down as bricks. The devotion . . .

Oh & I would've chose to attend the tree lighting itself. The tree's actually right out outside of the store. Originally, I planned to attend to the lighting, but I opted not to. It was for the better, besides it was COLD that night.

  32. OMG, You people are so nasty and cruel and junior highis.
Jenna looks fine. Her stomach looks fine...she is a real woman not some model. Do you really have to cut someone else down to make yourselves feel better...obviously...YES.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Did Jenna recently gave a birth?

    ReplyDelete
  34. I agree that combination of colors Jenna is wearing is a little over the top--there's a lot going on in that outfit! Other than that, I think she's a very stylish working woman who's not in her 20's, not a supermodel, and a relatively recent mother. Cut her some slack!

    ReplyDelete
  35. I tried on that sharkskin skirt in store, by the way, and I thought it was pretty unforgiving. Very, very shiny, and the fabric is kind of thin, so if you have some bumps you want to conceal, the skirt doesn't have the structure to do it. It was like having a shiny beacon pointed at my arse (which wasn't a good look, btw).

    ReplyDelete
  36. slastena: i got the same thing from my b&m, i looked and saw you're in MD, which store do you frequent, montgomery or columbia? or another?

    ReplyDelete
  37. Personally, I love seeing Jenna's outfits. She takes color combinations to the next level. I think her outfit is interesting. She's got a lot going out there, but balances it edgily. I am not a fan of the tights, but that's just me. I think she has a nude, sparkly makeup thing going on that doesn't photograph well. Her figure is fine.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Honestly, I am not cutting down her size nor the fact that she's a mother and may have padding from having a young son (I didn't even notice that, actually)..but the outfit looks like she got dressed in the dark. It looks messy, ill fitting and she just looks sick or something (and maybe she was.)

My response comes from a place of shock as she always looks fabulous! So my review was based solely on some choices which were strange--but not in a good strange way--like I am used to J Crew doing.
I have high expectations for her--she can choose from ANY of their FABULOUS CLOTHES:) This was a miss.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Jenna's color combo is a little scary:(
I thought she had a son, who is that little girl she is holding?

    ReplyDelete
  40. One thing I would love to know, is how when Jenna wears skirts, they go down to her knee, but she is, what 5'10? Most of Jcrews skirts/dresses are above my knee, and I'm only 5'7...its really frustrating when trying to look for stuff that is work appropriate (I work for a conversative accounting firm). I love a lot of their suiting dresses and wool dresses but they just don't work for the office.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Jena makes her living coming up with ideas for Women's wear. Period. When that is your job, you can and will be judged for how you dress. We didn't just find some random woman at the party to pick apart. This is a woman that gets paid to tell other woman how to dress, and adult criticism is warranted here. That outfit is atrocious. Yellow and Gray-I get that. But adding the orange, pink shoes, and gray tights was a disaster.

She's pushing the 'ugly is pretty and makes you look creative' thing, and it just didn't work this time.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I think Jenna used to look really stunning, almost as good as any of the JCrew models. At least in my eyes!

I think if Jenna always looked like her appearance at the recent Rockfeller event, then people would have not commented as negatively. After all, how many designers do you know who look almost as good as models in real life? But sudden changes make people surprised.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Maybe Jenna was having a bad day, forgot about thr event and had to scramble at the last minuite.

I do agree however ther outfit was hastily put together, no wonder we continue to see all the bright colors at JCrew she just adores them!

    ReplyDelete
  44. I don't think that's the sharkskin skirt. It looks more pencil-shaped and purple-toned. I hope they release it though, I like it. I love the opaque gray tights, I think they're really chic, although I'm not crazy about the citruses with the blue-based colors below.

Great, we all live in the same area and shop same places!:)
My closest store is Montgomery, occasionally I shop at Tyson's. I work/study in Baltimore, so stop by Baltimore Harbor store quite often ( the CS is the best there!). I would go to Columbia very rarely and maybe been only once at Towson's. I love Georgetown J crew for selection and friendliness, but it's kind of far from me to go often.
The call I got was from Montgomery Mall.:)

I am in a process of creating more Polyvore sets with those belts!:)
Below are some of my older ones.
    This one is from today:
    Wearing 12/5/2008
    Also:
    Wearing 10/5/2008
Here is another one, I made it for one of the contests:
    Luciod coat contest
Wide gold belt can be worn with any type of jeans, cinching the light coat, or with most neutral cords. I have just recently bought suede Brewster boots in acorn and belt compliments them very well.
In terms of rose belt, here is my idea for the almond one ( blouse can be changed to a pinkish one and rose belt used instead):
    Beige-ing!
I will try to post new sets by the end of the day!:)

  47. Tina: I got my january marie claire today and finally found the article... it's easy to miss.

If she is wearing one of the bug pins, that is NOT what I expected them to look like! They look alot smaller online.

She also has that ruffled cardigan on, UNDER the jacket. Seems weird and HOT! I love the dress she has on, I'm trying to figure out which one it is.

I love seeing JCrew stuff in magazines!

Also, notice that she's not wearing JCrew shoes.....

  48. I'm a bit disappointed with Jenna's outfit too.

Kate Moss (a model, not a fashion creative director!) throws on a tank top and a pair of wellies and looks great (even with her hair messy) in board daylight.

Jenna Lions (CREATIVE DIRECTOR!) attends an event and can't put an outfit together? She may have tried to look unconventional/edgy but for anyone who has an eye for aestethics, this is a "no,no" IMO. I don't think I'd let her tell me what to wear after seeing this outfit :(

  50. Smarty;
    you are so welcome!:)
I scored peep toes in Dusty Rose tiday- will go perfect with the belt. Isn't it a bit disturbing- I have to get the shoes to match the belt?!LOL!

  51. Am I the only one who actually *likes* Jenna's outfit? LOL! I'm not particularly fond of the 'sharkskin' skirt, but I do love the color combo, and the contrasting shoes. I wear light grey with citron a lot (one of my fave combos being my citron pastille dress with grey tights and dark eggplant turtleneck).
