J.Crew's Website: Tech Difficulties {again} :(

As many of you have noticed and mentioned, J.Crew's website seems to be down again. :( Hopefully, the site will be running smoothly soon for a possible new promotion tomorrow. :)

  1. They're trying to keep people on with sales, which causes the site to crash, which leads to more sales and more crashes...sigh...:(

  2. Amanda - I seem to recall the same thing for the TURKEY promo. I'm sure there are a lot of last-minute orders going on and then..... KABOOM!! the site blows up. JCrew everywhere...

    LOL

  3. Wow, the website has gone down SOO many times this year. You would have thought they'd fix all the bugs by now. They need to admit they made a mistake with this website and go back to the old one! If it wasn't for all the cute clothes, I would given up on shopping here long ago.

  4. I've become a fan of J Crew recently and stumbled upon your blog. Just want to say I love their product offering this year, very chic and glam. However, this constant site crashes are getting on my nerves. Like Shopper555 said, if it weren't for the unique stuff they have, I'd have given up months ago. If this keeps happening I just might stick with Banana Republic =)

  5. J.Crew needs a new server or a better one or a bigger one or whatever it is takes makes websites not crash when there are lots of people on it. I mean seriously, when was the last time you saw google.com crash? And there's millions of people using it all the time.

  6. on the last 3 promos, not once have i been lucky enough to get an order through. either the site is down, or i can't get into my cart, or worse yet, the cart gets deleted. so much for a site upgrade.

btw, as much as i don't feel like defending j crew, the sephora site is also down right now.

  7. gracefully - thanks for the heads up on the NJ store and the ringspun rose tee, everything worked out!

  8. It seems to crash more during the evening than the day doesn't it though?

I wonder if it's because they are still trying to fix the site, and brings it down at night when there is less business.

  9. this is sooo frustrating!!! i tried to put in my order three hours ago and it's been down since then. will they extend the sale?

  10. Figures that once again I will miss placing an order during the sale! Hopefully the "next" promo will be better - back to 30% off????

  11. I think the site problems have to do with timing. In the wee hours of Sunday morning the site was working like a dream. Two times earlier this week (weekday evenings) the site kept busting and I had to place phone orders. They really need to create a system that can handle volume - lots of people shopping simultaneously..

  12. i've been loving j.crew's stuff all this year and just discovered this site... i'm sure this has already been talked about before but i don't have time to read all the old comments. which of the coats is warmest? the heavy wool pique is described on the website as being really warm but my store doesn't carry outerwear so i can't check it out in person. they are all so cute and i don't want to order the wrong one!!! thanks for help

  13. with all the problems jcrew has been giving every loyal shopper, i think extra 40% off should be given right??? if you've been a loyal consumer with or without the jcrew card, additional 40 should be given right? the written apology is sweet but doesnt do much for me...what you do think?

  14. Anon at 11:06 - I think people would appreciate even free shipping on unlimited $ spent for all their troubles. But surely 30 or 40% off would be a dream!

  15. ITA, can do w/out the sweet notes, not that I got any ,but gimme the cash discount, anyday/any way. Cannot believe the site down again, really ought to fix this. I agree w/ RTM, chic and glam is the word. I do love Banana too though.

  16. It's just as well, no shopping for me until after xmas. I don't know what dh has bought me and he'd be really ticked if I bought myself the same thing lol.

OT- Does anyone know how the stretch wool suiting compares to the 120s. Fit and quality?

    ReplyDelete
  17. In my opinion, 120s is much higher quality than the stretch. I really didn't like how tight the stretch wool suiting pants were, so I opted for a 120s suit instead. I love the drape of the 120s, my only gripe is that the pants are unlined, but other than that I've enjoyed the suit.

  18. This is completely OT, but can anyone spread some light on how they wash/ care for J Crew sweaters? Is it possible to hand-wash the Cambridge Cables, Dream, or even the Cashmere sweaters? All of my sweaters say to dry clean, but I have a one-year-old, and if I head to the dry cleaners every time I get something on a sweater, it gets pricey! Thanks in advance for any help!

  19. I hand wash all my sweaters. I have cable, cashmere and wool cash blend They have all come out well with woolite. Dry cleaning is really hard on fibers.

Anon 11:20- Thanks for your op. Is the sizing true or all over the place on the 120s?

    ReplyDelete
  20. shannon: Thanks! That's pretty much what I thought, but I wanted to make sure at least someone else agreed with me before I went for it! Woolite in cold water is probably fine, right?

    ReplyDelete
  21. That's what I do. Then I roll it in a towel to remove excess water, unroll, and lay flat to try. Easier and cheaper than the cleaner :)

  22. I have two super 120s suits. There's difference in sizing between the favorite fit and the city fit pants for the super 120s suits. I have to size up one size in order to fit the city fit pants. This might be because the city fit pants are lower rise, but if you know that jcrew, make the sizes coordinate! I also have to size up for the super120s skirts from the size I wear in the coordinating pants.

Other than that, I love love the suits. I have a black one and the heather charcoal pinstripe. So far they have held up pretty well, I've worn them to court, to interviews, etc. They look good, plus i've worn the black super 120s pants on their own and they look great.

  23. Yeah, use woolite or dreft, which with a one year old you probably have around. Don't use much of whichever detergent you use, and rinse twice as much as you think you should. After the sweater is dry, go over it with a sweater brush, you can get one for about two dollars. I have also had really good luck using the handwash/delicate cycle on my washing machine, and that way I can do a few at a time. The only limit is how much space I have to dry items flat. (I have an almost two year old and she LOVES to ball up laundry and stuff it in odd places so I have to dry things in the basement only!) Good luck!

PS- Site's back up for me.

  24. it looks like while it was down they were updating inventory.

The double serge pencil skirts have been replenished(except for blue) as has the striped black victoria ruffle shirt.

  25. Code changed to JINGLE, good for 30% off and FS on orders of $150. Two days only.

    ReplyDelete
  26. thanks, anon@12:39 -- it's not showing up for me yet (I'm on the west coast), is it online-only?

    ReplyDelete
  27. Ah Double Serge there you are--but why is black full price!! :(

    Thanks for the Jingle code!

  28. hey does anyone know how to get the additional 25% off on top of the sale thats going on? i have been waiting for the so called coupon but its has been a no show. help! i need any additional % off please share :)

    ReplyDelete
  29. 30% off sale started on web site. Code: jingle

  30. hey i meant the one that the girls are talking about that gives them 25% on top of the 30% off.please help thanks.

  31. I hand wash all of my sweater as well. I use cashmere/sweter wash from Nordstroms or The Laundress. Several people have told me not to use Woolite, too harsh. I also use very, very little soap and rinse well. Roll in a thick towel and it will dry quicklly. I also put my sweaters in a laundry bag and wash on delicate/hand wash cycle. Comes out nice. Good luck!

  32. O/T Has anyone washed the Slub-cotton crest graphic tee item 97419? If so did some of the design came off? Mine did I used the delicate setting in the washing machine and it was in a mesh laundry bag. I guess I should have hand washed it.

  33. dina, so glad you found the rose tee. yay!

and for those asking about the super 120s suit. i have a navy pinstripe one. it has a lovely sheen and drapes beautifully, but i, too, wish the pants were lined. the good thing is the fabric is very smooth and doesn't bite or itch. it's also a light enough wool that i could see myself wearing it as a 3-season suit.
on the pants, i have a favorite fit trouser and it fits true to size on the waist and hips. and it's not super high waisted. but, i'm 5'7" and wear heels and it's a little short on me with heeled pumps. i wish i had ordered a tall size.
the 2 button jacket is a typical j crew suit fit. which means i had to go one size up for my bust.

  34. I was curious as to why Woolite is considered bad for wool, even though it seems like such an accepted detergent for it. I looked and here is what I found:

"The type of soap or detergent is important and you want to use a detergent that does not have an alkaline pH. An alkaline pH causes the wool scales to open and this leads to fulling. Woolite is alkaline and strips wool fibers so avoid Woolite. "

And now I know. Yay! The article also states that any soap w/o an alkaline base can be used to clean wool, even dishwashing detergent. I never would have thought of that.

  35. This is revoltingly familiar - every time a major promo is offered, BOOM - the sight goes down. I also had the interesting experience of the checkout fairies changing my order - 3 shirts in different colors all turned persimmon once I clicked submit. But the screw-ups seem to be a company tradition. 30 years ago, my first order to jcrew arrived in duplicate. When I phoned to report this problem the very sweet woman I spoke to basically said: Oh Honey don't worry about it - you can't believe how screwed up this system is - trust me, you won't be billed for it! And this was in advance of internet ordering frenzy.
