J.Crew Email: Extra 20% & Free Ship Reminder

J.Crew sent an email reminding us that the offer for an extra 20% off sale items, as well as free shipping on orders of $125+, with promo code EXTRA20 expires today, 12/14/08.

Do you think there will be a new promotion tomorrow? If so, what do you think it will be? :)

  4. The online sale section is SO PICKED OVER!!! Everything I wanted is gone! Oh well, I guess "he who hesitates is lost!"
    :(

  5. Hopefully, more discounted prices plus additional % off plus free shipping.....

I hope that coats drop even further! Lets clear out all JCrew fall/winter merchandise!

I think that JCrew will order substantially LESS merchandise for 2009, so stock up this year Aficionadas! These may be the lowest prices we see for a while...

  6. jcrew is not ordering less, but cutting cost. look at the fabric of peacoat. how thin it is now. look at the making of rose tee. jcrew is cutting the cost. I guess because cutting quantity, to jcrew, may mean to lose sales, so instead jcrew cut cost.

  7. Fellow Aficionadas:

THANK GOD my 25% off card expires tomorrow. I just can't take it another minute. I have turned into a complete compulsive j crew fanatic and have re-worked my entire Christmas list so that most of it comes from J Crew. The buys are just too darn good. But really, three sean bags, at $52! to various nieces.
Do you know that today I drove 45 minutes out of my way to go to another JCREW because I was too embarrassed to walk in 'mine'!!!! And then ended up at mine anyway, because the other was not good! Honestly, what is wrong with me? I bought that lovely sequin tank today in the greenish/yellowish color- the color available on line - because it was returned to my store and I came across it on the rack. Who did I buy it for? Absolutely no one in particular, I just couldn't leave it sitting there when I knew it would cost me only $52!! So the extra 20% on line expires at midnight - you know they'll have another promotion ready to go tomorrow - I feel like setting my alarm for 12:01 am. Please help!!!

  11. I was disappointed that I "missed" the previous online sale (the items in my basket that I wanted most were sold out by the time I got to checking out), but then the very next day there was another e-mail offer that was the same I think as the previous one! I put in my order on time today... plus I visited the store today and bought several items.
While we're on the topic of catalog/internet ordering, maybe we should have a discussion on sizing? I tried on two suits at the store today- the stretch wool (which I bought there) and the super 120s (which I ordered in a color not at the store). I chose the same "city fit" in both pants, but had to size up in the super 120s and size down in the stretch wool. and I sized up in the stretch wool pencil skirt (compared to sizing down in the stretch wool pants), and I sized down in another pencil skirt (the cute black sparkly one) - so not only to the different fabrics not correlate, within one fabric the skirt and pants don't correlate with sizing. I could say I'm "between sizes", but it seems like the J. Crew sizes do vary a bit, even within one "fit". I can say the same thing about the blouses. It makes it difficult to order off the web site.
One thing I always liked at Ann Taylor and AT Loft is that I always wear the exact same size in everything, skirts, pants, all different styles... J. Crew just seems rather inconsistent with the sizing.

  12. I think the next promotion will either up the percentage code for sale items or offer free shipping for $75 orders or $100 orders. J. Crew seems to go up to 30% off and then down to 20% and then up again. I am crossing my fingers because I love my Lulu flats and I want to buy a spare pair!

  13. I can't wait for the post christmas final sale that I'm sure they will have...but i'm concerned jcrew is running out of things I would even want to buy. I certainly don't care about their resort stuff going on sale...and the winter/fall stuff has been on sale for months at that point. Hmm, oh well, I'm getting a little embarrassed by how much jcrew i wear.

  14. I wanna buy "Classic peacoat with Thermore" but I have 2 problems.

First, I'm not sure what size to get. According to their PETITE size chart I'm S but I heard that J Crew runs big. I usually wear 4-6 on tops. My measurements are 34 (bust) 25(my natural waist), and 28 (low waist). What size should I get?

Secondly, the color I want in S is sold out, but it's available in M. (If) Even though my ideal size is S, would the coat still fit me in M, or would it be too big? Is there a significant difference between S and M?

The coat is catalog exclusive so I don't think I can try it on in store. Please help me. I really would like to buy this coat before it gets sold out! Thanks in advance.

  15. Is JCrew really going back to final sale after Chritmas? I hope they don't do it online, too.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Lily I think you only need to wear ps or pxs. pm is definitely too big on you. Quality of this year's peacoats, especially peacoats with thinsulate, isn't good. I suggest you not buying or buying one from last year, which occasionally show up online. As a matter of fact, last night I saw a ps black peacoat with thinsulate of the last year's version online, but it is gone.

  17. Ladolcevita~

If there was another J Crew in my area I would have done the same thing! I went in today and the sales crew waved at me like I was an old friend...embarassing! I have ordered/bought something every other day in the past 3 weeks. I just can't pass up a good bargain.

I'll be up at 12:01 and most likely checking the J Crew website. Sigh...

  18. "lille heavy wool pique" coat.... any thoughts?

  19. Oh no, I am not staying up tonight. I have to get up and walk my dog in the morning and don't want to be too exhausted. I also really only want one more pair of PJ's and I can probably hold off another week. I have to exchange two sweaters for other ones - one through the mail and the other in a store - but other than that I am going to try to hold off until after Christmas when I have a gift card, no matter how good the deal. I already took advantage of HOHOHO and my 25% off card, so I think I am about done for a little while. I do want some coats but I think the best deal for that will come after Christmas/New Years.

  22. Alexis,
I picked up the Sean bag in Westport yesterday in Tulip. The last one they had. Paid an incredible $36.75. $69.99 -30%,
-25%. Tooooooooo good to pass up. I luv, luv, luv this bag. I know the leather will get totally 'worked over' but that is the 'worn/used' look it should have. It will only get better with 'age'. I was hoping they would have one in dark cloud also...but no such luck. The buys have been amazing. Let's see what tomorrow will bring. Thanks again for your terrific blog.

  29. La Dolce Vita,

Good Lord- are you sure we aren't the same person!? Oh my! I drove, seriously, an hour last night to go to another J Crew store to use my card (plus, they're way nicer there). I think I've used it at least a half dozen times and have driven out of my way to do so. I was beginning to think I was the only one with this obsession... I got really embarassed a couple of weeks ago when a SA said- " I always see you in here, but you're never in our clothes." That's not true, b/c I'm always wearing JC, but I feel so odd about wearing their clothes when I'm shopping in the store... ugh. The same SA commented that he would never get up early for black Friday sales- this, while I was standing in the store, on black Friday, at 7 am. I seriously feel like my whole closet is JC.I'm glad to know I'm not alone!

    ReplyDelete
  30. You guys shouldn't be embarrassed about going to the store so often. I used to work retail (the gap) and would often see "regulars" and it was nice because they weren't rude to you ever like customers may be if they've never seen your before or never plan on coming in again. Also I've been in j.crew so frequently that I've got to know a bunch of the SAs and it's nice because they all feel perfectly comfortable telling me when something looks terrible or great. Plus - many of them remember my size, so they can bring me stuff to try on if it's something they think I'll like.

    ReplyDelete
  31. SO glad to hear that I am not alone in my obsession! I have been in 3 different J Crews in 4 days!! (ok one was because I was in a new city on Business- but still counts as an obsession!) I have seriously used my 25% card 10 times or more!!! I used HOHOHO promo and got the Serengeti heels- love them and am so glad I sized up and lots of crewcuts pants for next Fall. Have purchased some sort of scarf for everyone in my family for Christmas and then got the fun metallic luggage tags and tied them on top with a bow! I also have snagged a ton of fun jewelry for everyone on my list.

  33. FYI I just spoke w/ a CS and she said they have no idea the reason for the current website problem. I asked if the current 20% off promotion would be extended, and she said she heard a new promotion would be going out tomorrow for 30% off plus free shipping (although the minimum purchase is higher - from $125 on the 20% promo to $150 now). Hope everything in my shopping bag is still available then! :)

On a side note, I did ask about the red phone orders. For a period earlier this year, it was free shipping on any item regardless of item price (full vs. sale) when you place the order from the red phone. She said this was allowed to counteract the problems the website changeover was causing. I informed her that since the website is STILL HAVING MAJOR PROBLEMS, if she could put a suggestion in to bring that policy back. I think until the website is performing 99% of the time (especially on heavy order days during promotions), that policy should be in effect. Maybe if other people suggest this too it will come back? (hint, hint!) ;)

And my final comment, this time a question: How are people checking inventory levels of items online? I see comments of people saying that "there are 12 size 2s left, but 99 size 4s" ... how do you guys find out this stuff?

    ReplyDelete
  34. Oh my god, people stop asking the same questions!! Reread previous posts, you'll get our answer.

    ReplyDelete
  35. 30% + free shipping!? AAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!

When will it end?! I.can't. stop.

    Must. stop.

    Can't stop shopping

    help me

    ReplyDelete
  36. To La Dolce Vita and others who have posted about going into stores multiple times: why can't you get around that by shopping online? I guess I HAVE to shop online since most of the stuff I wear is petites, and they don't carry those in the stores. anyway, I too am guilty of binge-shopping the J.Crew sale.

On another note, does anyone else feel like J.Crew has reduced the number of sweaters they carry in petites? None of the sweaters on sale / promo recently have been petites. In fact, their entire fall/winter cashmere line does not have petites. Anyone know why? This is a bummer. But I guess its still a small speck compared to the bounty that is the recent sale pricing...

  37. The extra 25% off card is store only.

  38. Hmmmm, per Anon 10:44pm, I must have missed the boat on where 'how to find inventory levels' information is ... I honestly do not read every comment posted on here, but the many I have read have not disclosed this information - maybe b/c it could be considered hacking and if J.Crew reads it they will close up that little leak in their system.

I just asked the question, and if you don't care to answer it, that's fine ... let's just leave out the snide comments shall we?

Thanks again to the loads of very nice people who read and comment on this blog, and to Alexis for taking the time to support it! Happy Holidays and deep discount shopping everyone! :)

  39. I need some advice!

I got a gift card from J.Crew for Christmas and it just came yesterday... I can't figure out if I should use it now while the sale is going on OR wait until after Christmas when they may have post-holiday specials and additional merchandise. What do you think?

There is definitely some stuff on there I would buy now, but I don't want to be bummed if they unveil a bunch of new stuff right after Christmas! Help!

  40. Me too - I am so embarassed to go into my store again. But I want to go once more tommorrow before the 25% card expires.

  41. Anon 8:38, the Lille is just about the best coat I've ever had in my 31 years on this planet. It goes with everything but the fanciest things I own, it can go casual but cute or semi dressy. I have it in black and the fabric really elevates it above basic. The wool is warm but not bulky, the buttons are sewn on extra tight, and the belt only showing in the front adds interest and appeal. The lining is really nice, too. I'd get in it the other colors if I hadn't maxed out my card lately. My only minor peeves: It does run big in the body, but not the sleeves so much, and the weave of the fabric does tend to attract pet fur like crazy. That said, it's the perfect coat for layering, it looks great, and the price is nice! I hope you enjoy it as much as I am!

  42. Whitney, to find out inventory levels put in 99 for the quantity when you add the item to your cart. If you are able to add that many, there's at least 99 in stock. If there isn't the screen will tell you the amount they're able to add. That said, the website is behind actual inventory in the warehouse so if there's many orders ahead of you the number can be inaccurate, but this way way you get a better idea. From what other JCAs have noted, warehouse to website updates are done twice a day. This has helped me decide to buy things quicker, but it's also fueled my paranoia that items I'm ordering may get cancelled! Hope this helps, and happy shopping.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Thank you Anon 11:11pm! Alexis, maybe this would be a good FAQ style question to add somewhere on the website. Though, it could flame the number of paranoid shoppers out there ... I thought I couldn't get any worse off before learning this new trick!

P.S. - I did try searching the blog for 'inventory' earlier, and only posts by Alexis came back. Unfortunately, I don't think we can search comments that easily - although how great would that be!

    ReplyDelete
  44. Whitney - you can check the quantity in stock by entering 99 as the quantity before you put an item in your cart!

(I hope the snarky "stop asking the same questions!" wasn't related to your question because while i've seen the question several times, i've only seen one response and that was ~50 posts after someone asked..)

  45. Oh Boy!!!!!! The website is down again. Up and Down...Up and Down...Oh well, hopefully tomorrow JC will add a REALLLLLLLLLLLY great promo. I'm going to give up and go to sleep. Can't deal with this anymore. I'll be hitting the local 2 stores in my area tomorrow to use the 25% off ONE MORE time. Thank you (Anon to Whitney)for the tip on finding out how many of the item is in stock on line with the adding of the 99 in the add to my cart.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Dear Whitney

Making the inventory info out loud to a FAQ section will certainly help a lot of people, but NOT FOR VERY LONG. I am certain JCrew will fix their website so that people cannot add more than a few items at once. Because otherwise, nobody will buy anything until it becomes on a deep sale, unless something is about to become sold-out. We need to remember that this site is monitored by JCrew employees.

  53. hey how do you get the additional 25% off? help please

    ReplyDelete
  54. Anon--RE the 25% off...some customers received a Direct Mail piece with a red card inside for an additional 25% off any instore purchase before Dec 15th. It was intended to be used only in stores, not online, though for a while there was seeming to be a code that worked online for it, or a few people had luck on the phone or with a Personal Shopper, but it wasn't something you could enter online in a regular order--as always you can only enter one code. The recent online codes like HOHOHO or this new Jingle one are the good online codes to use.

Hope this helps--when people talk about getting 30% off plus 25% more, it was most likely a store having a Bonus 30% off Sale items, plus 25% off with their instore card. SOme might have even called into a store to do a store ship.

    Hope that is helpful info?

    JLiz

  59. Hi Guys! I know this is a bit off topic, but I hate how the search function for this blog *only* searches through the posts and *not* the comments. (Especially since all the useful info comes from the comments.)

I find there is a work around for this (although it is not the best, it is something). If you go to google, type in your key search words and then include "site:jcrewaficionada.blogspot.com". For example, if I were looking up the Fiona jacket, I might type the following in the search box: fiona site:jcrewaficionada.blogspot.com.

This would bring up all the pages with fiona mentioned (including comments that use the word).

Again, sorry to be off-topic. :)

  60. I bought some items that ended up being the wrong size, so I went ahead and ordered them again during this promo since I was worried they might sell out. I emailed and asked if the items I'd ordered could be matched to the price I'd previously paid, since I wanted to just exchange them, and they said yes. Then they said they'd take an extra 10% off the rest of my order to bring all of it up to 30%! I was so surprised and pleased - it was very nice of them to do that when they could have left the other items at just 20%.

  61. I posted earlier about grabbing deals this winter because in 2009, I believe, inventory will be scaled back due to the DRAMATIC decline of the economy. Inventory reduction is a no-brainer for any business that wants to stay in business. I think that JCrew will buy significantly less so that it won't have to discount merchandise as much. So, while the discounts will be a 'steal' this winter, I do not feel that will be the case next year (2009). Just wait and see!

    JenG.
