Seasons Savings With J.Crew {20% off & free ship} :)

"Thanks!" to many of you, including Anon at 12:58 AM (in this post), Anon at 1:01AM (in this post), and Smarty (in this post), who let us know that J.Crew is offering an extra 20% off sale items, as well as free shipping on orders of $125+, with promo code EXTRA20. This offer expires 12/14/08.

Although I think we can all agree this offer is not as wonderful as the recent HOHOHO promotion (refer here), this is still a great offer and I am *thrilled* that J.Crew has offered it! :)

Are you planning to take advantage of this offer, or wait a bit longer (for better deals), or avoid shopping online (e.g. prefer to shop at their B&M stores)? :)

  1. Can anyone shed some light on how much the Sherpa hoodies are in stores right now, specifically NYC? Thanks!

  2. I just tried a mock checkout with $130 worth of merchandise, and the code didn't remove the shipping charges...anyone else had success at Extra20% AND Free Shipping without calling in?

Btw...very glad to see J.Crew offering another code!

    ReplyDelete
  3. Hi FFM - I just did a mock checkout with a larger order, and it did remove shipping. I think your order has to be over $125 *after* the 20% is taken off (yours isn't).

    ReplyDelete
  4. Thanks Anon @7:31! Good to know that it DOES work, but pretty crummy that the total has to be $125 after the 20%...the *details* should make that clear, since it only says $125 before shipping, handling, and taxes. At least it IS working at some point, though. :)

    ReplyDelete
  5. FFM, you're right, one would think that with all the disclaimers they would be able to spell everything out effectively! But I'm super happy that they're offering free shipping along with a discount, so I'll forgive them. :)

  6. I'm going to checkout the B&M since I have the 25% card.

I will be able to hold off ordering from the web. I can wait until there is a bigger discount offer since they sucked me in with Turkey and HOHOHO. :)

  7. O/T: I have to say if I had purchased any of the items I bought during these last couple of promotions at full price, or even close to full price, I would have been done with JCrew. Sadly I must say they are grossly overpriced. Discounted they are right on the money.

  8. I remember someone recently was looking for the Lucinda coat in grey? There are a bunch in greenwich, CT - grey, camel, and a few navy.

    ReplyDelete
  9. VOM, I tend to agree with you with the exception of one piece: the double-serge pencil skirts. They are so thick, well-made and perfectly tailored for me, I would've paid full price for them. Most of the other pieces that I own, I got for about 40-50% off, and would've been highly disappointed had I paid full retail for them. JC makes adorable pieces in great colors with thoughtful little details, but overall the quality just does not match the (full) price tag.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Several JCAs have mentioned that they are disappointed with the quality of items received recently. I'd welcome details... Also, does anyone have real-life pics of the Marie coat? I'd never noticed it online until I read the reviews here; one of the reviewers mentioned pics, but as far as I can tell they haven't been posted. TIA, and happy holidays everyone!!!!!

  11. help - I'm looking for a store that has the thompson tote in guava - I want to be able to get it in store so I can use my additional 25% off card - on line it's still $125 - I suspect it might be less in stores - Yesterday I bought the sean bag in pink for $34 - it was marked 69.99 - even though on line it's still 149.99 - used the 30 off, then the 25 - it's gorgeous!

    ReplyDelete
  12. ladolcevita, wow! congrats on getting such a great deal on the sean. I'd love it if my local would carry more of the leather bags, and then I'd have a chance on snapping up a great deal, too.

  13. I think I'll hold off on ordering online for a little while. I agree with VOM and silverlining. The quality of some merchandise has gone downhill since I began shopping with jcrew (mid-90s?). At the same time, I LOVE my double serges and paid full price for them, minus the educator discount. I got P4 in bright blue and bronzed ochre as soon as I tried on in the store.

  14. These are fantastic specials J. Crew is running, but there just don't seem to be many of those "must have" items. I bought a coat for my wife last month, and haven't bought anything since (although I check back almost daily). Does anyone else feel this way, or am I pinching pennies just a little too hard?

  15. Does anyone think they'll do another offer like HOHOHO before christmas? and I'm going into a store today - what are they offering? thanks

    ReplyDelete
  16. OT, but have to post since I'm so excited! The first HOHOHO order I placed, from the ninth, is already out for delivery! I'd checked tracking before I went to bed last night and It only said shipment info received, and now I'm about to get my hot little hands on my goodies! This is the order with my Peyton dress in grey, so I'm going to have a chic and cozy weekend! I got it in grey, and I ordered the Alessia mary janes in black last night to go with the dress. Hope they look cool together! Wish me luck!

  17. Ryan, there hasn't been an extremely huge amount of must haves, but there have been some. I had to have a couple cashmere sweaters for DH (a jungle green crewneck and a purple cardi) for me to cozy up to, since they were both under fifty with the sale. I also had to have the Lille coat, both gorgeous and practical. My other must have was the ringspun sweet ruffle top. That fabric feels so good on, and the style is just so cute. I have to say, I am always on the lookout for good deals in Men's and there's usually at least one sweater or something that I think DH NEEDS, but not this season. Maybe the spring rollout with have more covetable things for you guys.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I agree that the double-serge material is fantastic. I wear my black one all the time, but I am a little on the fence about the deep persimmon one I ordered during the HOHOHO deal. Do others get much wear out of their persimmon skirts--I just don't know if the color is more Fall than Winter? I work in a pretty conservative office, so I'm not sure . . . but the fabric and cut are great!

    ReplyDelete
  19. All four of my HOHOHO orders from Tuesday are out for delivery right now...I am very impressed! I mean I guess I don't know if everything is as it should be inside the boxes, but still...I was sure they wouldn't get here until next week.

Thanks J.CREW! Almost reminds me of the old reliable J.Crew.

  20. sorry for the OT but i have a bamboo hipster bikini#95636 in a M, and i ordered S again, so whoever wants it let me know, i got it for 29.99 but i'm willing to part with it for close to nothing if anyone wants it! thanks!

  21. My HOHOHO order is due to arrive today and I am glad I jumped on that code because I got 25% off and free shipping. My Maggie blazer is actually due to arrive today. I will probably go to the B&M one more time before my 25% card expires but I am going about to take a rest from buying clothes for awhile.

  22. Has anyone ordered/tried on the Tailored wool rosette tank dress? Any comments on its sizing, fit etc? It seems like a good deal but it's been on sale for a while, leading me to think that perhaps it's not selling for a reason. Would appreciate any feedback - thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  23. Anon 10:14 - I can't comment on the fit of the wool rosette tank dress, but I've seen them in the store and they're unlined, somewhat itchy feeling, and looked a little ratty from shop wear. I think JC made a mistake in not lining their wool dresses such as this one and the wool shift, and that's one reason that their prices keep going down. Another reason may be the "tulip-shaped skirt" that both dresses have that are not universally flattering. Maybe their design team will learn from these and that sequined tank with the "bubble hem" that most women don't need to have fabric bulging out and then tapering in, making the stomach/hip areas look bigger. Just my $0.02.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I tried on the Rosetta dress yesterday at the Michigan Ave, Chicago store (they have a size Sm for 49.99). It ran a full size large. I always wear a small so I thought it would fit, but it was big in the chest and under arm area, but other than the sizing, I thought it was a great versatile dress. I think with a cardigan it would be work appropriate and without its great for a dinner party. So I definitely recommend, but size down (or just order two sizes to make sure!).

    ReplyDelete
  25. Silver Lining & Priya - Thanks for the super helpful comments on the rosette tank dress!

    ReplyDelete
  26. I do agree with Silver Lining that it looked a little ratty for some reason, I didn't think it was because of no lining...I think the wool is a little rough and catches threads etc. It didn't bother me too much since it just needed a once over with a lint roller. As for the wool being unlined, it definitely would have been a smart move by j.crew to line it, but I didn't feel itchy or uncomfortable in it, and with a slip on underneath you would definitely be okay.

    Hope that helps!

    ReplyDelete
  27. Priya, I agree with you about the wool catching threads - the ones in my store were stuffed on a rack with a bunch of other items (sweater dresses, etc.) which likely contributed to the way they looked.

  30. Does anyone know if the cashmere turtleneck was ever available in a brown color? i.e. desert brown or hazelnut? It's not available in a brown color online, but I know stores have different colors sometimes.

    ReplyDelete
  31. The cashmere turtleneck was available in Vicuna, but it's sold out online. I wanted one-didn't get it. Have the search program find one for you. Type Vicuna into J crew's search and you'll see the few remaining items available in that gorgeous color.

  37. Anyone have the kate dress? Mine is arriving soon and I hope it works out! I had a madaline, but it just didn't work on me, it made me so sad that it didn't it's so cute! I'm hoping the kate will look better, any thoughts?

    ReplyDelete
  38. Steph,
I just ordered the Kate dress as well. I usually have the problem with the top being too samll and bottom being too big in dresses with my broad shoulders, I really hope it fits.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I bought a LOT of stuff with the HOHOHO code, so I will not be using this code, but wait for better deals before and after the holidays. I will, though, go to my local B&M store this weekend and use the "red card" before it expires.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Anon@10:14 - silver_lining nailed the look and fit of the rosette tank dress. It's also a little low cut, like the tank. You may want to get it tailored at the shoulder to help that. There *is* an issue w/the wool looking ratty and the chiffon rosettes don't help as they are unfinished.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I'd love to spend more money, but everything I want is sold out. ;-(

    ReplyDelete
  42. I prefer shopping in-store vs online. Probably will hold out for a better savings offer though. Unless...
How large is the sale selection at the Michigan Avenue store? Any sweaters/tees on sale?
    Thanks in advance!

  44. Anyone know how much the cashmere turtlenecks are in stores? Just wanted to know whether it'd be more or less than online prices. Thanks!

  45. j pearl -- i bought a sherpa hoodie last night. it was on sale for $49.50 and did not get the extra 30% off (promotional price, I guess) but I did get the 25% off from having the discount card.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I won't be using this code. I am holding out for a last minute code that is hopefully (hopefully being the key word) Free shipping no minimum.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Loving JCrew--

The Michigan Ave store has a lot on sale, the whole back half of the store is sale stuff. They have a lot of cashmere, I think 99 before discounts, they had a ton of Melanie cardigans in all sizes and all colors (I got one for my Mom, she loves it!), I think the Melanie was 40 before discounts. In terms of t shirts, I wasn't really looking for those, so I can't comment. But its definitely worth checking it. Also, they have a ton of shoes on sale, like they just have the boxes out arranged by size, I got the Alessia Mary Janes for $36 and the Bromley boots for $42.

    ReplyDelete
  48. The cashmere turtleneck was available in hazelnut. There were only a few available online, and they disappeared pretty quickly. As pointed out, it was also available in heather vicuna, a tan-like brown.

I typically wear a size 9 in shoes, including most J. Crew shoes, but I had to size up to a 9.5 in the Trixie heels. Also had to size up to 9.5 in the Isabella patent leather heels and the Gayle patent leather heels. The crackle heels are TTS though -- a 9 was perfectly roomy.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Thank you so much Priya!
    I love this site:)

Will try to check it out today!
Is there additional %off sale items? I don't have any coupons:(
    Thanks again!

  50. Since when did the online red card code stop working? I tried a few days ago (and again today) and it doesn't work :(

Sorry if this has been posted already, I browsed through but didn't see any posts on this.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I am sure this has been posted before, but I why does JCrew continue this silly ping pong promo game. A month ago they were offering 40%, then 20%, 30%, back to 20%! Come on, they are really playing us. Once they lower a price stick to it. It is not fair to the customer and very bad business in my opinion.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Anon @12:18

I believe it stopped right around the time the HOHOHO promotion started.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Hi all, I've been lurking here a few days after being delighted to find a couple of nice J Crew items that actually fit my in-between sizes body. Was looking for a decent interview suit at a reasonable price and had no luck in any B&M stores so in the end pulled the plug on a men's Aldridge suit in navy. I feel good about the HOHOHO promo but agree with others that there's not much that I'd feel happy about paying full retail for. Along with many other clothes shops, J Crew could comfortably reduce their prices to more realistic levels, and then have fewer of these bungee promos. Anyway, I hope the suit fits me OK - it's a very risky thing to do for a guy to buy a suit without being able to try it on in a store!

    ReplyDelete
  54. Cashmere turtlenecks are $99 right now in-store. But they don't get the extra % off like the sale items.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Anon @ 12:21 - Thanks. I thought it was valid until 12/15 though, like the in-store card. Oh well!

    ReplyDelete
  56. Loving JCrew,

As of yesterday it was an additional 30% off sale items and they did the tiered discount thing on top of that (so another 25% since I bought more than 150 (oops, didn't mean to do that!)). I think the tiered discount expired yesterday though.

    Glad to help out!

    ReplyDelete
  57. At the Michigan Ave store they were doing additional % off cashmere items, but I did check about the t-necks.

    ReplyDelete
  58. I'm tempted by the Wool herringbone Ella dress. I'm usually a P0 and wonder if anyone has any comments about the fit, since it's not offered in petites :(
    Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  59. Okay,

So my four orders just arrived, I waited a few minutes until the UPS guy left because I embarrassed that all the boxes were from J.Crew! Everything was perfect, not a single problem.

Onyx Sequin Dress--This dress is beautiful, the merino weight is perfect and the sequins are an understated level of sparkly (which I appreciate). Here's the problem though, it has a plunge neckline and is very fitted in the bust. I got a size 2 but am a D cup so it is tricky, I think I can live with it though. One thing that is nice that I think if you're up for being a little risque you can probably wear a normal but plunge bra with it and you won't be able to see the bra. That being said, I am hard risque so I need to figure out if it looks decent with a black stretch camisole underneath it. On the model they have her wearing it with a while favorite fit tank which I think takes away from how pretty the dress is. So still up in the air on that.

Also got the Tartine in Navy for a whopping $14...needless to say, I am thrilled with that purchase. I tried it on when it was full price and didn't love it, but at $14 it makes you love it!

Brewster short suede boots in espresso--I sized 1/2 size down on these and I am glad I did. The color is nice and they seem well made, but I'm not sure I'm going to keep these. I wish they had a zipper and were a little less slouchy because I usually wear straight leg jeans and I was hoping I could tuck these underneath my jeans, but I don't think that's going to happen.

Finally, order my mom the Harriet wool coat in Navy and it looks really nice. Obviously I don't know about the sizing, I can fill you guys in later after she tries it on. I put it on myself and loved it, even debated ordering one for myself, but I got a Cole Haan wool coat last year and I promised myself I wouldn't get another for awhile, I guess I will try to stick to that promise. But at $90 (129 and then 30%), the Harriet is really a great buy.

Also, I was weirded out by an associate leaving a comment saying that sale stuff was only returnable until Jan 1st (I'm waitlisted for some items that aren't shipping till after Christmas!), so I sent an email to CS to get a written clarification of this policy. I will definitely post their response on here.

  60. Hey guys,

I had posted this on the Exchange post a couple days ago but it seemed to be pretty much over when I did. But I wanted to post again and see if anyone was interested, I'm trying to get these off my hands.

I have a Tartine Cardigan M in Heather Mushroom that I wanted to sell. I just decided I didn't love it. I also have black Ludlow trousers in 8 from Fall '07 if anyone is interested. They look like this: http://www.jcrew.com/AST/Browse/WomenBrowse/Women_Shop_By_Category/suiting/super120s/PRDOVR~86009/86009.jsp. I never wore them, only tried on a few times.

  66. I am done ordering until after Christmas (read amazing sale). My TURKEY order finally came and was missing FOUR items -- sadly the two I wanted most - the Black Maggie (boo hoo - now completely unavailable) and a cashmere ruffle cardigan. Big wah. I'm very sad. They refunded me what was not shipped but that is all they said they could do. That was the worst order I have ever had with J Crew - so far my HOHOHO orders are seeming to go better, but now I'm taking a big break (unless, of course, my black maggie shows up again).

    ReplyDelete
  67. mack, I don't know if this will make you feel any better but the ruffle cashmere cardies weren't up to snuff. The sleeves were short, the material was much thinner than other 12 gauge sweaters from J.crew, and the ruffle didn't seem to be stitched on well. I was super disappointed, I took mine back to the store. Better luck with the Maggie, hope you find it and it turns out well.

    ReplyDelete
  68. I am very happy with the current EXTRA20 promo! I actually much prefer this to TURKEY, which was 30% off without free shipping.

I imagine JCrew right now has to process tons of orders that were made during the HOHOHO promo, so they probably need to take a break by lowering the promo a bit. But I'm pretty sure a bigger promo will come out soon.

Nonetheless, I think EXTRA20 is very handy when you discover re-stocked items that were sold out before, and will be sold out very soon again.

  73. Sorry to be OT. Just received an email from a J.Crew associate about a cancelled order. I'm disapppointed that the item is no longer available but appreciate the gesture of already doing a "we will find it" search and personal email.

"I would first like to say how much we appreciate your loyalty to our company. My name is Tim and I am a personal shopper here and I would be happy to assist you with any of your shopping needs.

The reason I am sending this email is because I have noticed that the Watercolor Garden Lydia Blouse in size X-Small was cancelled from your order. I do sincerely apologize for the inconvenience but it seems as though there was a mistake in our inventory. I searched across the country for the blouse and I was only able to find a size Small in the same style. I set the item aside until tomorrow night if you would like this item in place of the item you did not receive.

If you would like to order the blouse, you can call me at my extension listed below at your earliest convenience or just reply to this email. If you have any other questions or concerns please feel free to contact me. I apologize again for the inconvenience but I do hope to hear from you soon. Thank you for choosing J. Crew and have a Happy Holiday Season!

    Sincerely,

  75. The rosette tank dress does run very big, and is considerably longer IRL than shown on the model. I don't think the skirt is quite tulip shaped, it's more of a sack. That sounds bad, but it isn't really, it's super comfortable and would lend itself well to a cardi as someone else pointed out. It seems to need something like that to give a bit of shape. If it didn't have the rosettes it would look good with a belt since the empire line is only in front. The unfinished-ness of the roses is continued with an unfinished portion of fabric on the ruched portion above the flowers. This detail isn't in the description, and that is probably subliminally adding to the rattiness quotient. My B&M had a few in each size as of yesterday. I decided to try it out at less than $27, because I got the Stephanie a couple weeks ago (<$17!!!) and I think the wool deserves a bit of TLC. It looks great after a session with the lint brush and a steamer. Also, since the rosette dress is quite low cut (and scratchy to some JCAs), is anyone planning on wearing a layer underneath and forgoing an over layer? If so, are you going turtleneck or crew, and what fabric? I've tried on things from an oxford to a plain T under the Stephanie, and they are almost universally cute, but it's a simpler dress. Thanks!

  76. It's me again, the Canadian who used the "find it" service. I checked my credit card online and JCrew charged me $29.99 for the snowflake tee and nothing at all for shipping. I thought the tee didn't go on sale until after I had requested the "find it" but maybe I am mistaken.

I notice a lot of items on the sale are sold out, but then checking back later there are some limited sizes or the item is available. Check again later still and sold out again. I'm sure there are a ton or returns lately. It's likely they go back into inventory and are sold right away. I wonder if there will be a massive amount of stuff available after the Christmas returns. Here's hoping....

  81. Shannon, I'll definitely report my thoughts on the Alridge suit.

Something I did that may help your partner with suit sizing: jacket - the Factory store was the only B&M store near me (Vegas, NV) that had tailored jackets in chest sizes (e.g. 40/42 Reg/Long...instead of just M/L/XL) and from those I established I was good with 42L. Then in a retail store I tried on some wool trousers for the waist size and found I was good with the "classic"/tailored fit.

Obviously, I hope/assume there's some consistency in the sizing but it would honestly be so much better if they could put some of the suits into the stores, as they're the trickiest yet most expensive pieces a guy would ever buy.

  85. Got the Lucinda coat today, they were marked as $199, but it rang up as $150. $89 total with the 30% off and student discount on top of that. Just an fyi for anybody considering that coat.

Also, I found the charcoal Astrid-Trim Berry Jacket for $107. Not sure where I'm going to wear it yet, but it's such a gorgeous jacket & I'm so happy about that price! :)

  87. The B&M at Barton Creek Mall in Austin is 20% off everything full price and sale. They wouldn't let me combine the student discount with that - said that they had received an email that instructed them not to.

  89. Mary took off the tags & wore it once, that's why she can't return it to the store. I think it's a bit much to try to get back all u paid for it when a. It's technically no longer new & b. It's cheaper online.

  90. Resort/spring items at my B&M!

Solid and polka-dot Nicky skirts: almost identical in design to the grosgrain skirts from the last couple of spring collection. Grosgrain-trimmed pockets, side zipper, unlined, thin cotton taffeta. The polka-dot one was TDF cute (champagne w/white polka dots) but one of the pleats was already coming unstitched (hello?! quality?!). I'd recommend to size up so that it is a little above knee length (much like the sizing of the chambray swing skirt from last year). If you choose your normal size, it will fit in the waist but may be a bit short. $88.00

Mystery trench jacket: very similar to the Paper Poplin Raincoat from last spring. Single-breasted trench, lined with an adorable yellow and orange "doughnut" print, buckles on the sleeves. Very cute, overpriced at $178.00, available in khaki and navy. I'd say it's TTS.

Some cute (I assume) cotton interlock dresses, Claire pants, tissue tanks/camis, but no must-haves. Fine with me - most of the stuff wouldn't be wearable for 3-4 months, anyway! ;)

  93. LaDolceVita: Thank you *so* much for letting me know about the price of the Sean Bag. I was able to go to Westport, CT and pick one up (in the bright tulip) for just $37!!! I just love it! And the store associates were floored at the price that I got it. I think one associate was going to buy one after wards. There may be one or two bags left if anyone is interested. :)

Anon at 12:18 PM: I am sorry to hear about the 25% red card online code not working. :( I have a feeling that J.Crew might pulled it. (After the code got published on this blog, many members stated they were able to use it. But after a day or two, another member mentioned that they were not able to use it as well, which makes me think J.Crew must have found out about it.)

Green Dino: I am sorry to hear about your canceled order. :( Although, the email from Tim was very nice. :)

Anon at 3:37 PM: I could not agree with you more: the members of this blog are absolutely *the best*!!! No mess-ups. All perfect. Only problem is, I don't know if I can truly afford to keep everything I ordered since I love them all. LOL!

  97. Just got my HOHOHO order in the mail (so quick!) and everything was in tact (even better!!)

I ordered the Maggie in camel, sz 0, unfortunately it is going back. I think it was a combo of bad sizing and bad color. It was too big on me and the color washed me out. So disappointed, I thought it was going to be a real winner. :( A different size/color would have worked better

  98. j pearl - i received my 1st sherpa hoodie in the mail the other day and to get out of it to wash it is soooo hard. I took advantage of the 30% off last week and ordered another one. I got my husband one and he loves it too.

    ReplyDelete
  101. You can use a Personal Shopper for all of your orders...the goal is to use the same one and build a relationship with them...my online PS is absolutely fabulous! :) You can submit the form on JCrew.com and a PS will contact you. HTH!

    ReplyDelete
  102. thanks! i would think they would get some kind of commission for selling things? (at least i hope so)
so how do you order things? do you email your PS or doesn't it work that way?

    ReplyDelete
  103. You can either order by email or over the phone. They contact you by email first...however, your first order is usually placed over the phone so that they can get all of your information like address and CC number. After that you can just email your order in, and they will handle it for you. :) They have certain hours they work, so if you are trying to get an item that is selling quickly and they have the day off, or aren't in yet, then you still have to call and talk to a regular CSR. Overall I think it is much better having a PS, though.

  108. I just received the
Long Harlow leather boots item 99548?

When they first arrived I thought they looked like rubber boots. After wearing them around my family room for a while they really grew on me. My ankle bones rubbed in them some (& I have skinny legs) but I think they will stretch/soften over time. The widest part of my calf is 13". The Harlow shaft is a little over 15" (but not quite 15-1/4") so the shaft is a little loose compared to some of my other boots. This is ok because it's not so loose I can't wear it with a skirt & they leave room for my pants, which are not matchsticks. The zipper starts all the way down at the bottom of the foot, which is a good thing. Comfortwise, they are the typical JCrew feel - not soft & cushiony. I like the look of these boots. They have a "cool" kind of look to them without being too chunky/manly. The sole is more substantial then the Glenbrae's, & the strap & buckle are a cute touch.

Overall I really like these boots. At $122.50 & FS they were a deal!

I've purchased & returned the Short Brewster's: too big in my normal size & didn't like the short boot/no heel look enough to bother sizing down. I also bought Glenbrae's in Sandstone & returned them because I didn't like the shape of the foot or the color. I'm scheduled to get another pair of Glenbrae's that were b/o'd in Camel. I'm thinking I may like these better in the Camel color.

When I looked up the Harlow boots today I noticed they're sold out in most sizes, including my size, 9. What do others think of this boot?

    ReplyDelete
  109. Veronica: The Personal Shoppers that handle the online orders are in VA, but I do have a PS at my local store, as well. If you need more help finding an online PS you can email me, and I can *walk you through the process*. :)

  110. This is Anon at 1:38. Thanks for the advice about the Victoria blouse. Amelia, I JUST ordered t he Maggie in Camel size 4. Glad to hear you love it. I can't wait to get mine next week!!

Also, bought the dream Silvie dress in Honey Glaze for a whopping $36. SO happy about that. Does anyone have that dress? I am usually a small or extra small but wanted to leave the option of layering so I opted with the small.

    ReplyDelete
  111. Hey anon @ 6:50 - I have the Dream Silvie in charcoal in small and I think it fits great. Since we seem to be the same size I think you will like it and you can layer with the small. I love my jacket. They just had one size 4 black in stock but I have to hold myself back - I can only buy so many clothes and I am trying not to buy duplicates anymore!!

    ReplyDelete
  112. Thanks Amelia! Looks like we are J Crew twins :)

These fabulous sales have to stop! I have loans to pay back!!

    ReplyDelete
  113. Jane - I hear you. I have those too. But, I love to snap up the PJ's this time of the year and they have some dress shirts on sale at my B&M that I have an eye on. I think you'll like the Sylvie. It's very comfy with some tights and a dress shirt underneath. I am doing laundry this weekend and will probably wear mine on Monday!! Of course, I will have to wear my Maggie one day next week as well :)

    ReplyDelete
  114. Just one more note to add about PS Tim - I asked him if he could help locate the Metallic Clea Jacket in black. It was cancelled on another order. I did not have high hopes b/c I asked customer service to do a "we will find it" & they said they don't offer that service for sale items.

Much to my surprise, he found the jacket!! He even let me use the 25%off card. This definitely makes up for the cancelled Lydia blouse.

    ReplyDelete
  116. I just returned a Clea in black. It was scary. It was not metallic, it was SHINY. Like someone sprayed shiny lacquer on it shiny. I saw another one in the store when I went to return mine, and it wasn't like that. The one I got was just strange and awful.

    ReplyDelete
  117. Received my first HOHOHO order today as well. Received everything I ordered. Was looking for a nice black coat to dress up or down so I ordered the Stadium-cloth Shipley Coat based on Chiffon Cupcake's review on 12/5. I like, I like! I especially like the empire waist. the coat glides over the hips instead of accentuating them. I was a little leary of the banded collar. I thought it might be too wide and make my neck look scrawny but it actually falls very nicely on my lower neck. I'm 5'1 so the coat actually hits me at my upper knee which is perfect to wear with pants as well as dresses/skirts. Thanks for the great review Chiffon Cupcake!

  118. Help me out fashionistas: Is it really O.K. to wear white cords this time of year? I just noticed they added more colors (sea salt!)in my size of the boot-cut cords to the sale section and I want to scoop them up before they disappear again. Will I get much wear out of them? Help! :)

  120. Yay! I just got the double-serge pencil skirt in my size in both bright blue and ivory for ~$63 with the EXTRA20 promo and free shipping. I wanted these skirts and waited too long - they sold out. Hearing other JCA's talk about how wonderful they are, I was really disappointed. I kept checking and they finally showed up!

    Yay!

    ReplyDelete
  121. Anon @ 7:26 pm, you can definitely wear ivory cords over the winter. They are great with colorful turtlenecks and blouses. I have a pair from last year that I have worn a lot, especially with red tops during the holidays. The problem for me is that sometimes the slushy streets make their mark on them. ;-(

Check out the sets on Polyvore by FFM and others and you will see that ivory pants can be worn year-round as a neutral. I love FFM's set with the camel Maggie and ivory slacks. Classy.

  122. I received the
Lille heavy wool piqué coat item 99135
in black, size 4. I have a size 6 on order now too. The size 4 is a smidge tighter then I would like in the shoulder/chest area. When I pull my shoulders back (standing in good posture) I can feel the coat pulling in my chest area, which is not ample. The circumference of the arm at the armpit area is small too. It fits me just right & I would not be able to wear a sweater underneath the size 4 coat. The Lilile is a very stylish coat, & can be worn as an everyday casual coat. This is the coat where the belt is sewn underneath the back of the coat. I am sensitive to how wide I look in clothes. This coat does not accentuate width of hips/rear. The collar can be worn up or down. It would've been a plus if they had put some sort of fastener so you could stand the collar up & fasten it shut. This is my first feel of a heavy wool pique coat & I like the fabric. It is soft & has a texture to it, unlike the cashmere coats. I highly recommend this coat, & I thank Slastena for posting IRL on her site. I liked the coat in the catalog but was leary of ordering after the Marie coat bombed for me. I love this coat more than the Marie, & @ $90 you can't go wrong. I do wish they had a better selection of colors in this coat (like the charcoal grey color).

    Lillie Sizing Notes:
    Size 4: 14-3/4" across shoulder
    Size 4: 38-1/2" chest circumference
Size 4: 23-1/2" sleeve length from shoulder seem to bottom of coat sleeve
Size 4: 31" length from top of back collar to bottom of coat

    Size 6: 15"
    Size 6: 39-1/2" chest circumference

    ReplyDelete
  123. ^ Oops - that's "Size 6: 15" across shoulder".

  127. Style guidance,

I have the watercolor crawford. I wore to a party by itself w/ dark jeans and the silver claudia heels last weekend. However for daytime it also looks nice with the bright rhubarb tartine cardigan over it. I think this color is sold out but there are a lot of other cardigan styles on the website that come in that color or a similar one.

Re: rosette dress, I just got mine today and it is probably 2 sizes oversized. I wear a 14/16 in dresses so ordered an XL and I was swimming in it. Could have worn a M. I was also planning on putting a long sleeve button down shirt underneath b/c otherwise it's too skimpy on top for winter, but when I tried that it just looked like a school uniform. So it's going back and I'm not even going to bother attempting to exchange for smaller size.

  128. Reviews on other stuff I received today:

    1) Cashmere argyle v-neck: such a great deal at $49 (69.99 - HOHOHO 30%). Thin but soft cashmere, fits tts.

    2) Wool jersey rosette tank: not that impressed with the fabric. Also, if you are larger chested it makes the tank hang down over you like a tent, and it wouldn't look good tucked in IMO. Going back.

    3) Cashmere flora dress: runs tts, but not the most flattering style on larger chests. It made my chest look huge. Also was kind of too short on me (though I am tall). Going back.

    4) Watercolor garden lydia: we all know how the blouse fits. At first I thought the print was way too much for me, but when I paired it with a black skirt and dark purple cardi I thought it looked nice. Keeping.

    5) Wool-blend ribbed tights: nice quality and fair price right now (with mark down right and promo i paid about $10).

btw my order came with no probs. I noticed they had put check marks next to everything on the shipping invoice--maybe they are finally getting it in the warehouse!

  135. I placed an order on the first day of HOHOHO, and it came today no problem. One item was a cheap tee that had been coming and going online, so I wasn't hopeful, but it came. :)

I also love ivory cords - the city fit luxe cords this year are great! Of course, I inevitably come home with something on them, but they wash easily. :D

  136. Just got back from my b&m, and I splurged and bought a pair of jeans with my 25% card. Luckily, they let me use the teacher discount as well. I would have bought the candy tee or map of France tee, but neither were on sale in the store and the sa wasn't willing to match online (ny regular sa, Billy, was leaving as I was coming or he might have price matched for me.) They had lots of sale, but it was odds and ends. Plenty of sequin placket tees, cords, and high heel jeans. A few coats (no ivory), some skirts, lots of lea cardigans (I resisted again!), and a few shoes - mainly larger than my size so I didn't look too closely. Now I have to be done shopping for me...unless the cashmere henley goes on sale, or the cornsilk jewelry, or the lillie tuxedo cardigan gets marked down more (they have a TON of these, so I'm too worried about it selling out right now and chances are it will get marked down more since they have so many).

  139. Note about store returns: I ordered a bunch of items during the Turkey promo - a lot ended up going back to the store. Today I finally had the time to go through the receipts and noticed that they DID NOT refund everything I returned.

On one order they returned two pairs of the wrong shoes (I ordered the same style in 2 different colors). They returned the ones I still have! Also forgot to give me credit for returning a peacoat.

On a different order, they missed returning a solid kelly shirt and jacinda jacket.

I am going to bring in the shoes I have that I supposedly return but not sure what to do about the other items. How do I prove that I actually returned these items? =( Next time, I'm highlighting everything I return.

  143. ROSETTE TANK DRESS: The posters above summed up the fit pretty well. But it can't be overemphasized how gigantic and bag-like the fit is. I agree with the last poster that it is at least *two* sizes too big. Although I am 5'1" and 98 lbs, and a Regular sz 0 is one size too big on me, I tried on a small and it was like I was a toddler playing dress-up in my mom's clothes.

As I tried it, I thought that it may look cute for someone the right size with a shirt underneath, but I guess one poster tried that and she thought it looked like a school uniform. . . .

    LOVE:
Vachetta Tote-nice bag, know that it is going to behave like Louis Vuitton's vachetta handles if you are familiar. It will show spots if you are in the rain, the handles will darken with oils from hands. I personally LOVE vachetta leather and the character that builds over time but some people would not care for the uneven shading and oils, spots. It will become more casual over time due to this. It is unlined, rough cowhide on inside. Snapped on ends it looks more like a purse but unsnapped like a tote. I really like the neutral color and the leather a lot.

Oslo-I have the large size and it is ultra smooshy, soft pebbled leather but as I mentioned elsewhere--you need a "purse to go" or it has zero structure. Love the neutral champagne color. Unlined with one snap out zipper pocket--no others so beware. I have a review on a recent post but forgot where??

Anin 7:26 IMO Sea Salt cords are super great looking-go for it. They are dressy even on matchstick variety.

Anon 1:38 I have a sz 2 long sleeve white Victoria going back unless you would like it?? If so, post your email:)

  153. hello JCAs! the cortina glittens are no longer online so either they're sold out or it's more j crew website voodoo. but at any rate, if you bought a pair for someone, i got a pair at full price in black and recently tried them. i wanted to love everything about these and get them in many colors, but i'm really sorry to say i'm leaning towards a poor rating. i have shearling mittens from jcrew -- they're 10+ years old, heavily used and just beginning to wear out. not so for these.
on the pro end, the glittens are incredibly cozy. my hands get cold very easily but these do keep me warm and the wool is very soft, not itchy at all. i love, love, love that.
but they run rather big. i always wear women's large gloves and these are large even for me. the mitten cover bunches at the top.
but what i found i most disappointing is the quality. this is really poorly made. i'm surprised it's a j crew item at all. the buttons on the mittens came off withing the first two hours of wearing, on the 3rd time that i unbottoned the convertible part. never mind, i'll sew them on i thought.
i've worn the gloves briefly 3 times after that. it's already pilling -- badly. and the seam on the left thumb is beginning to open so you can see the top of my thumb. worse yet, i noticed tonight, the mitten cover is sewed onto the glove and it's beginning to separate!! so much for a glitten. very shoddy. very disappointing.

  159. Crystal: My HOHOHO package shipped without a tracking # at first and I was nervous about it. Other posters said this has happened to them and they still got the package. Anyhow, I called back two days later and they had a tracking # by then. The package did ship on the 10th but they didn't get a # until the 12th.

  160. EXTRA20 works on orders with no minimum (no free shipping, obviously). I was holding off, but I couldn't resist the price on the Tartine, and ordered it with the promo. It came to $21 and change including shipping. If there are one or two exceptionally low-priced things you must have go for it now!

Does anyone have any comments about the tissue t's vs the favorite fit t's?

    Thanks!

  162. Does anyone have the Simone cardigan and can give a review?

  163. I only bought tissue tees and favorite tees in earlier years and haven't bought any this year. I prefer favorite tess. The quality of jcrew tissues tees is not nice. Some brand new ones even have holes. The shape of tissue tees also do not hold up well even after just a wash. Some tissues I bought from target have better quality. The cotton fabric of jcrew faborite tees is much nicer, thin but durable.

  164. Better deal at the B.M. right now ~ got 2 pair bootcut cords for $25 (cement gray and aubergine!), and the tres roses tank for $20. They were havng addl 30% off sale, AND Christian the manager (a fab mgr) gave me the 25% off card to use! Lots of sale stuff.

  165. Has anyone seen the uptown tote in their stores? Thanks!

  166. I just don't get Jcrew and their inventory. I wanted a size 8 in the Harlow snow leopard blouse on Thurs. but had to settle for a 10. Now, there are 50blouses in stock in size 8 this morning...really disappointing....

  167. Eddie Bauer has a great promo....15% off all orders and free shipping...any amount--now that is a deal and no sneakiness like JCrew!

  169. Foxeee: There were a few more Sean bags in Tulip left yesterday at the Westport,CT store. Em also mentioned in her comment the following: "They had at least 5 dark cloud Sean bags at the Beachwood, OH store on Wednesday evening... I'm sure they are still there since they were marked $99.99". I hope you are able to find the Sean bag! :)

  173. JCAs~

I know this has been discussed before, but I am on the fence about the watercolor lydia blouse. I am pretty small on top-usually a 2 or 4. The victoria cami in 4 is a little blousy on me. Could I pull of a small in the lydia or am I going to drown in it?

    ReplyDelete
  174. If anyone sees the Heirloom Henley in vicuna/medium in a store--please post it here. Thank you!!!

    ReplyDelete
  175. JaneEsq: I normally wear a 2 in J.Crew tops. In the Lydia i had to size down from my usual S to an XS; otherwise, i would have been swimming in it.

I tried on the Victoria and needed a 0 because the 2 was too blousy. Unfortunately, that made the sleeves a bit too short for my tastes.

  176. green_dino:
I ALWAYS take the time to check my in store returns. I was burnt two times this past year, & would've been burnt three more times but took the time to review the receipt before leaving the store.

It really got me how the SA would place my returns on the back counter, w/my original shipping tickets. She would've forgot to return them if I had not reminded her. I'd have been out quite a bit of money. I'm not sure why it's so difficult to get in-store returns correct.

  177. I think JC is missing out on selling a lot of the sparkly items because they're waitlisted until January!!!!! What good is sparkly if not for the holiday parties?

    ReplyDelete
  178. When they ask you, "would you like to look around?" I always say No, even if I do. I don't like how they dump your stuff on top of other stuff and stuff gets dumped on your stuff. I always have them process the return, and THEN look around.

    ReplyDelete
  179. ^Same here. Take care of returns first, then look around. I always make sure to watch they go through each item, too - especially because sometimes when I'm unsure of sizes, I order 2-3 of the same thing, and when returning all of them I'm extra careful one doens't get left out.

I don't know how in the world it'd be possible to go back later and claim to have returned something and not been credited.

  180. Just wanted to let everyone know that I'll be returning my Ivory Lille sz 4 today to Georgetown store ( a little big for me, got purple in my size). I cannot find another Ivory coat that I like as much as Lille, but can't justify keeping both.
If anyone interetsed, I can request the store to put it on hold under that person's name and you can call the store directly. Let me know!:)

  181. I ordered the ringspun beaded rose tee (close enough to the real name). WHen I ordered it showed there were tons of colors available and the shirt was only 6.99. I got an email today that it was cancelled because in fact it was sold out. When I called the CS rep said he could order another color for me, it was the only one left and I said I was really interested in the color I ordered because it was for a gift. CS rep said there's nothing he could do, I asked if he could see if a store has it somewhere and he said he couldn't do a search on a sale item. I asked "you can't do the search or you won't do the search?" He said "we don't do searches on sale price items."

Anyway had them do a search on a sale item especially when it was cancelled from your order??

    What should I do?

    ReplyDelete
  182. Dina: I had the same situation w/a crewcuts item. They said they would do a search for it but within an hour I rec'd an email stating they could not locate it. The item appeared on the web again so I placed another order w/the quickest shipping method. Again, it was cancelled. CS on phone said just because it's on the site doesn't mean they really have it. Well, a week later the item was back on the site. I called the 800# & chose option 1. The professional CS told me there were several of the item I was after. The CS placed the order for me, expedited shipping for free and 'wa-la', I received my highly coveted crewcuts item three days later! Persistence pays & so does the right CS. Hope you get what you're after. :)

  183. Here is my review of the Ella dress. I think the Ella dress fits TTS. I am normally a medium in tops, 8 in pants, 10 in skirts. I ordered the 10 because they said the bodice of the Ella was fitted. It fits very well. They were accurate in their description, it was very fitted. You don't have to worry about the sleeves falling down, the fabric has no stretch and stays in place on the shoulders nicely. The one thing I didn't like about it was that because the fabric has no stretch, the sleeves do not have give to them and you can't raise your arms that high because they are off the shoulder sleeves. The dark peony color is more of a deep pink than maroon. It looked maroon on the model. It is a very pretty color though. The fabric is also very nice and not itchy for being wool. There are snaps to secure your bra, but I found that the fabric is thick enough and the bodice is fitted enough that I did not need to wear one with the dress and nothing showed. I did try it on with a bra and it created massive cleavage that I did not like. I am a 36B for the record. Overall I really like the dress and I got tons of compliments on it at my company party last night. :)

  184. Slastena-Tempting, very tempting! I'm awaiting a size 6 now because of the snugness of the 4 or I'd jump on your Ivory Lilie. (Truly, I have been sitting here for 10 mins trying to decide if I should get it or not.) How kind of you to post the offer!

I feel your pain!:) It hurts me as much to part with it, esp. b/c I cannot find the substitute.

  186. JaneEsq--do not order a small. You must do xsmall on this one. Great shirt!

While we are on a bit of a rant--I have to agree with you all about returns. The pile? I guess they must all do that. Is that part of corporate training?

I undoubtedly have many returns of separate orders from the website. (I often order 2 of same size jeans/cords etc. or two sizes of the same item if unsure of fit.) One time they left off a sweater from a big return and I called up later after I went through the whole receipt and realized it was not on there. They happily credited it back upon my next visit to the store.

My biggest complaint is the RIDICULOUS system of returning online orders. They UPGRADED to a BETTER system?? I have to question the craziness of standing there for an hour while they individually process each separate return. The system is SO slow--it takes them forever and this part of the new system needs to be IMPROVED! What a waste of everyone's time. People were leaving the store the other day due to the wait-I think they were short one SA. Also, everything takes so long this time of year. They are wrapping things and processing these ridiculous returns. I feel for the SA's-it's not their fault and yet, you don't have to wonder why some people get the feeling they are rude when trying to do a return! (Ha-that's actually a joke. They have no right to be rude anytime;)

QUESTION-How come they cannot stack each order number/return on the same receipt? Other places do it. JC if you are reading--this needs IMPROVEMENT.

Okay, I am done venting;) Oh wait~

I wanted to reiterate what someone mentioned yesterday that their prices weren't ringing up according to the sticker. That happened to me and I had to go back in the store and re-do the whole transaction. I noticed it after I left and went back in. What a mess. It seems there have been 2 mark-downs on things and the register only reflects the first mark-down. Buyer beware and watch each item as it is put into the system or it may not be the lower sticker price. Sorry so long!

  187. love,

I have the uptown tote in the Borge Gaveri leather and I use it constantly. It is a classic piece and the vachetta leather will just improve with age, it's an upgrade over the tumbled leather.

I was a little skeptical when I bought mine as it is the light aqua color and I thought the color might be limiting but it really isn't. I also never used a tote before but it is so handy, I can't run errands without it now. I get compliments all the time and lots of, "where did you get that beautiful bag?" I especially like the snaps that allow you expand or contract the bag, depending on what you need to tote.

I ordered the small Oslo bag in champagne. I haven't received it yet but I have wanted it since it came out so I am pretty excited. I really like the tumbled leather and although I have some larger bags, I prefer the smaller ones as a purse. I checked the inventory online and was able to add 99 small champagne Oslos to my cart so they still have lots of inventory if you'd like to wait in the hopes of further discounts. I didn't check the other colors, not sure which has your interest.

I've read mixed reviews of the Odile bag on this blog. Some love it and others have said it seems like an "old lady" bag. I'd be interested to hear your opinion, if you do buy it.

  188. Bug Pin- absolutely right on about watching each item. Last time I was in my local B&M I heard the manager explaining to another customer that they do computer updates every night but not all items get updated, even when they've gotten instructions to do markdowns. As Mad-eye says, "Constant vigilance!"

If you're looking for boots/shoes but you don't see them, ASK! They only had two leather boots out but that did have other suede ones and selected other styles in the back.

  190. I want the tissue sequin tank in a size (S) in any color. Did anyone noticed if they updated its stock this morning? If so, I will take the time to get up at 8:30am tomorrow and check on it again...

I ordered it and it was way too big (L), but by the time I emailed for my exchange they had already been bought up. I won't be able to get the 13.99 discount for it from HOHOHO unless it comes up again in the next couple days...

I'm getting sick of this funny business with updating and stuff... i have joked about it being an addiction before, but it REALLY is. The way you have to monitor the site in order to get that exact item you want is crazy. I have spent so much time trying to buy the items I want.... I'd rather be wearing them and going about my life.

Side Note - I ordered the clean wash rinse trouser jeans and they are so cute. I'm taking them with me on vacation. My metallic herringbone clea came also and I just don't think its right for my trip. I am going to paris, and I don't think flashy red is in, last time i was there everyone was wearing black.

*Size 14 Clea Jacket is available for anyone to buy from me before I return it through the mail!

Any experience or advice of what to wear on my trip to paris from any fellow aficionadas would be great! =) I will be there for new years, so Cold Weather. I wish I had the Paris catalog from J.crew...

Sorry about the length of this post

  191. Jennifer - The tissue ts bite. I'm not buying another. It's totally uncool to have random holes in your shirt. I think the weave of the fabric is too loose. I totally agree w/all anon @ 9:04a said.

caliglam - What color did you get in the tres roses tank? I got the putty/beige color. It's so cute underneath a cardigan.

  194. A few people have commented on the merino sweaters being quite itchy this season. Are ALL the merinos itchy? Are there some that are not itchy?

I am interested in the following merino sweaters, haven't made up my mind which to buy:
    Chiffon Pleated cardi
    Lili ruffle chiffon cardi
    Lili tuxedo henley
    Lili tuxedo cardi

Can anyone tell me if they have these items, if they are itchy? Sometimes wool is fine when I try it in the store but after wearing for a while it gets to be too much. Would really appreciate feedback.

  197. I bought the sequined short sleeved henley (not sure if that is the exact name) - for 14.99 + in-store discounts and it is one that really is worth it for that price. You do need to really size down. I usually wear a 4 or small, but needed an extra small in this. I got the green and it looks great with a champagne/sea salt colored perfect fit tank under it and jeans. I paired it with a navy cardigan and it looked great as well for a fun casual look. I also saw the tartine cardigan in the bright yellow color today in person and it looked fantastic. I just ordered one for myself for about 15 bucks online with the 20% discount. Another real steal!
