  1. Anyone familiar enough with Madewell know if they'll have better promotions? Their markdowns aren't that great and considering that their sale items are final, I find it a bit ridiculous.

  2. Thi, in my experience this is about as good as it gets with Madewell promotions because it covers both sale and regular price items. However, it depends on whether you're interested in regular or full price items, or both. I don't recall ever seeing more than 25% off both of these types. Very occasionally I think there is a 30% off of sale section only, and more often it is only 20% of either sale or regular price items but not both). And in these cases, you still need to pass the $100 minimum to get free shipping. Also, the free shipping on everything is pretty rare and is nice if you just want to try one piece or get a small accessory.

I have a cart right now with one sale item and two full price items that I've been waiting over a month to pull the trigger on, so I'm definitely going to do it with this promo because the discount will apply to everything. But, I'm still $10 away from getting the discount so I'm going to wait till tomorrow on the odd chance of a popback to the sale section. If not, I'll just get some more tights (you can never have enough!) which will be well worth is considering it will save me nearly $40.

The final sale it definitely scary, but I've bought enough madewell that I'm confident in choosing the right size. Also, I find the quality exceeds J.Crew nearly every time. If you have any more questions about these things, I'd be happy to help. It would be nice to have a few more people discussing/reviewing madewell on this blog! HTH!

  3. Madewell doesn't offer very good promotions :( but their quality is def better than J.Crew especially with their silk (shirts and dresses). I am lucky to have 2 stores close by to me so I can try things before biting the bullet. I think they're "biggest" sale is about 30% off the sale price but it's FINAL SALE.

  4. I am dying for the dovetail shirtdress, sigh. Just a note, it is $158, but the 25% off brings it down to $118... but still with free shipping! Nice that if your order isn't over $150 after this discount, you can still get free shipping.

  5. I agree that Madewell quality seems to be better. I do also find that their vanity sizing is more out of control than J.Crews... I can wear a 4 or sometimes even a 2 in Madewell dresses, but need a 4-8 in J.Crew. So I'd say when in doubt, size down.

  6. I agree with J.CrewJD about the sizing, but I think it might be less about "vanity sizing" and more that their style in general is much more relaxed with a much looser fit than J Crew. That is how I like my fit anyway, so I just order my regular size whereas I often size up with J Crew.

  7. I highly recommend the Bird's Eye Pullover if anyone is eyeing that one! It fits TTS (the XS is perfect on me and I am usually an XS in J. Crew sweaters, sometimes an XXS if it's running large), the knit is really beautiful and it is 100% merino. It looks fantastic with everything I've paired it with so far and also looks great with a button down underneath.

  8. hmm, so I never buy Madewell but their Pennyloafer has been in the back of my mind since August. Any reviews of their shoes?

    :>

  9. I've seen MW's stuff IRL and bought the Derby Jacket from them last year. Very happy with the quality and fit. ITA with the sizing, you have to read the fine print. Boy fit usually fits slouchy so those of us used to the J Crew fit you can "size down". I noticed that they've started describing some of their items as true to size, so probably due to people being confused by their fits. Their denim is divine, and def. TTS.

For those of you curious about their shoes, check out Slastena's blog. She owns some and have done reviews.

I'm trying to shop the Aberdeen Oxfords, but the site is stuck on the check out page. Switched from Chrome to Firefox, same thing. Anyone else having issues?

  10. Rebekah, thanks for the reply. I've been eying a couple of dresses for awhile now and decided to pull the trigger, especially since their dresses seem to sell out of my size quick. I couldn't persuade myself to buy any of the final sale items (although I really wanted the dawn to dusk cardigan). Recent J Crew final sale purchases have burned me. *sigh*

As far as sizing goes (for those interested), my experience is limited to two dresses in XS. I've found that they run a more tighter fit than J.Crew, which I love. I usually wear XS in JCrew and most times I'm swimming in them. I bought the nightingale pleats dress in xs and tried on the ice dancer dress and they both fit perfectly. I do think that the style and fit may support a more boy-ish figure (small-chested/small hips)...
