J.Crew Updates Website with New Arrivals!

"Thanks!" to many of you, including Life as a cat & shopwithm (in this post), who let us know that J.Crew had a small update to its website today (click here to view online).

There are some new arrivals for men (click here) & women (click here). {wahoo!} It looks like Crewcuts (click here) has been updated, but not the J.Crew Collection (click here).

I am off to check out the new arrivals...

As a reminder, today is the last day to take 30% off all sale items (no min) with promo code OURTREAT.

What items are you most excited about and why? Which items are you surprised (or not surprised) to see? Which items did you hope would be included? Were you expecting a bigger roll-out today? Also, did you receive the latest catalog? :)

  1. Love the wool-cashmere toggle coat with Thinsulate and the cashmere sweater with the big cowlneck.

  2. Yay for new arrivals! :)

OT: I scanned the first 81 pages of the November 2011 catalog and posted them on my blog this morning. Click here to view.

  3. Nothing for me in this rollout. I could use a few more new skirts, and the tweeds are appealing but the blends are a turnoff. They are a expensive for acrylic/wool/poly/nylon blends. If they were wool/silk or a similar composition, I would bite.

    ReplyDelete
  4. The tinsel tweed pencil skirt is a really pretty colour but I agree with kitsmommy, the fabric composition is a little off-putting (acrylic/wool/poly/nylon).

    ReplyDelete
  5. Agree about the blends. However, loving the colorblock cardigan and might have to try it out. Will report back. The bright blue colorway is now available for the No.2 pencil skirt! Also, check out Factory new offerings as well -- blackwatch pants!

  6. 100% agree with Kittsmommy. What is up with the fabrics? Good for my wallet though.
Loving the toggle coat, the blue no2 skirt (but I am over skirts already) and loving the red pjs.

  8. Yes, agree with others. No acrylic blends for me. I wouldn't even consider them on sale. Boo J.Crew!

  9. Not much for me. I love the nightfall floral pattern but I detest short/cropped v-neck cardis. If it were a crewneck cardi in 100% merino, I'd be seriously eyeing it. The Suzette blouse in the same print is lovely, esp. since it has an underlayer, but I'll wait it out for a good sale.

Interesting to see the snowball shapes resurfacing in this jewelry rollout. The crystal snowball necklace is my all-time fave piece of JC jewelry, and it never fails to elicit compliments from random passersby. Might have to pick up those earrings!

Love the leopard hat and glittens. I think I might treat myself to those at full price. Were they on the site during the 25% off FP promo? :(

I don't see anything else that interests me. I have no need for more tweed skirts, esp. heavily synthetic blends, or outerwear or special occasion dresses, and I feel like I've seen all this stuff before (lord, now I feel like Tim Gunn, lol!).

  10. kitsmommy, I am with you on the tweed skirts. With acrylic at the top of the fabric content it is a total pass.

  11. The first thing that really caught my eye was the Mackintosh Rousay tattersall coat that (gulp) costs $1200. That must be some coat.

  13. Really love the toggle coat. Hmm, how can I justify another coat?

I picked up the striped vintage henley at the store yesterday and brought it home to try on. I was hopeful but also remembered that some thermals from a few years ago ended up being thin and sort of skimpy--shrunk too short and 3/4 sleeves. When I tried on this new version, I was surprised! The waffle is nice and soft and thick, the sleeves are long, and it feels really cozy. Now I really want to keep it--the navy and ivory is really cute. My only issue was that the stripes didn't quite line up on mine at the placket, but that could have just been mine. I think the solid would be pretty too!

  14. OT, but People mag is reporting that the 'other woman' in Jenna's life is someone named Courtney Crangi.

  15. Thank you, FMM! I usually don't get the catalogs until about two weeks after most people, so thanks for the scans!

  16. The pajamas look cozy but paying over $100 (Canadian price) seems crazy. Last year I bought the vintage pjs in a b&m for about $50, they are my favorite pjs but the waistband rolls/gets twisted after they come out of the washing machine.

  17. I wear pencil skirts nearly every day & love tweed, but haven't bought any of J.Crew's offerings this autumn because of the ridiculously high price charged for cheap fabric & shoddy construction. I don't need to go through my day worried if a seam is going to split while I'm presenting a project/stowing my carry-on/in line at Starbucks, etc, etc, etc.

  18. I know some folks were looking for the jewel jacquard cafe capris ... there are a few sizes back in stock. 00, 0, and 12 as of 7am PDT. HTH!

    ReplyDelete
  19. nothing I have to have out of this roll out. Thank Goodness!

Fun to have some new eye candy though.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Nothing for me as well; I noticed the return of the crystal button cardigan (a little longer this year) but they had it last holiday time (similar colors as well); and the sequin tank --- all from last year...I am going to save and wait for the Holiday roll out. This is good that I want nothing right now!

  21. There are some new arrivals at Factory too. Love the blackwatch tartan pants (which are on promo, so you can apply the 30% off today!)

    ReplyDelete
  22. @Elaine...I saw that article...and too many tasteless "borrowed from the boys" jokes came to mind.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Blackwatch pants?! Hope there will be time later to peruse!!

    ReplyDelete
  24. shopwithm- I just ordered those Factory Blackwatch Pants. I'm crossing my fingers that they'll fit. Also slightley worried that they won't be lined.....but they looked too cute to pass up.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Not truly a new arrival, but got my hands on the new vintage thermal tees in stripe, both the regular one and henley. Love these…and will definitely wear these a lot. So cozy and cute!

@Elaine, I love the leopard hat and glittens too! Hope my B&M gets these in to I can take a look. :)

  26. Apropos of updates, sort of, got an email today from Brora. Nearly spat out my coffee when I saw they're offering a cashmere hoodie for 495 pounds, or $800 greenbacks. Mon dieu. It better come with a lifetime guarantee that it will never, ever pill and that some Scottish hunk will stop by to hand launder it regularly.

    ReplyDelete
  27. The only thing that catches my eye is the purple tweed skirt, but not at that price. Maybe on sale. :)

Ordered the Café capri in toile jacquard with the extra 30% off sale. My rewards card covered the whole thing. . .love that! Thanks for the review The Chic Chauffeur! I'd been eyeing those, and your review helped me finalize my decision.

Received my 25% off order yesterday with the Crochet lace-front tee. I would say that this runs small. I ordered my normal XS and it fits, but is a bit snug in the arms. Definitely won't be drying this one. If you like your tops to fit looser, order a size up!

Also received the vintage matchstick cords in yellow gimlet. The yellow is more of a fall yellow then the lemon/springy yellow I was expecting. This was a good surprise! Very pretty color and perfect for fall. It will go nicely with plums, navy, etc. Just wanted to give the heads up on the color IRL.

Whew! I think that is it! Have a great day! :)

  28. Barbabelle: It won't! I took out a J Crew cashmere that I've worn maybe 8 times and it's looking a tad rough, I have Brora cashmere that's about 17 years old and it looks like new!
I'd offer you Gerry Butler but he's looking a bit rough these days.

    ReplyDelete
  29. CCS: I quite fancy those too, what will you wear on top?
Audrey, "the J Crew Angel ' picked up the floral taffeta capris for me for £54 plus shipping - they would have cost me something crazy like £250!
I am slowly learning about how to buy J Crew - ebay or chums!

    ReplyDelete
  30. egypto -- I was placing an order for DH, so I dropped the pants in my cart too. For $52, I had to see! Hope they fit/work out.

    ReplyDelete
  31. The blackwatch pants are interesting; hoping the factory store by me gets them so I can try before buying. They will probably be cheaper in store too.

Tickled to see the bright blue in the double serge pencil, a color I have lusted after for 3 years now, but I refuse to pay full price. I don't need it THAT bad... especially since I have nordic blue already.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Bourbon & Pearls: Aren't the pants great! I'm SO into patterned pants this year! I think you can wear a lot of things with them. I was originally thinking a white blouse with a navy blazer and maybe red heels for a punch of color. I also think they look good with a light blue oxford shirt like shown on-line. And The Chic Chauffeur had a great idea with green color. If I get really ballsy I might even wear it with a navy striped top! I also love florals and stripes together. :)

  33. I was intrigued by the colorblock cardigan until I saw it had mohair in it. Why, why?

Anyway, I posted a review on my blog of the Academy coat in herringbone if anyone wants a peek
    HERE

  34. Asking not to be sarcastic but to eductate myself....

Can someone explain to me why the nylon content in the skirt is an issue? I can't say I'm a textiles expert at all but isn't this more a matter of personal preference? For example, I don't like mohair or angora.

I guess I assume that the nylon provides--longevity? stretch? a certain look?

Side note: I also don't get the lined pants thing either but that's because I prefer unlined as the lining makes my skin crawl for some reason... but again, I guess I just assumed these were all different strokes for different folks?
    Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Regarding the Factory black watch plaid pants, I called CS and they confirmed that they are not lined. Too bad, I may have given them a try.

    ReplyDelete
  36. MommysShopping Again, I don't mind some nylon content in a wool or cotton fabric, it can add some durability and shape retention. I will not buy a garment that is mostly acrylic though. I tried a skirt that was mostly acrylic last year and it was hot and itchy, and I only had it on for a few minutes.

Lucky you if wool next to your skin causes no issues. I can't take it, I'm very sensitive to wool and even fine cashmere sometimes makes my skin crawl. I need a lining. It's my understanding that a lined garment also provides longevity as well, you have a buffer between your skin and the main fabric of the garment.

I'm sure others here can chime in with more valuable comments.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Further to xoxo's comment, I also can't bring myself to pay top dollar for a skirt that is largely acrylic/man-made fiber.

    ReplyDelete
  38. xoxo,
Thanks for the response. I've definitely learned over the years that JCrew items do need to be put on because they often sell items that even someone like me who is less sensitve, can't deal with. Case in point, the herringbone shirt dress from this fall. I couldn't get that puppy off fast enough due to the unlined sleeves. (for some reason lining only bothers me in pants). I'm not sure WHO could wear that dress it itched like the dickens! :=) This is why I no longer shop final sale. If I can't return it, I have to pass.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I agree, the green toggle coat and Cambon sweaters are great.

    ReplyDelete
  40. MommysShopping Again, I read here that the herringbone dress was itchy. I saw it in store and practically ran, it even *looked* like it would itch terribly. LOL

I have tried in the past to wear unlined wool pants by wearing tights underneath, or those lingerie pants made out of slip material. As soon as I sit down, where my butt hits the chair starts to itch. Not something you want to deal with, let me tell you. Besides the embarassing squirming, I can't get home and take them off fast enough. Major pass for me.

    ReplyDelete
  41. More blends, more unlined (and sometimes itchy) winter wool pants...It's almost torture when we see the lovely good ol' days of J. Crew in 2005. (Fabulous post though) I see those wonderful old catalogues and kick myself for not buying more then. I wish they'd give me a reason to buy more now.

  42. Mommyshoppingagain -
The acrylic and polyester content in knits bothers me because manmade fibers make me sweat while natural fibers keep be warm but dry. This also goes for lighter summer materials. If somebody refers to the "breathability" of a material, this is the quality they are referring to. You are quite right about durability and textile innovations that manmade materials can accomplish. However, I've found my personal threshold is at about 35% or less. And that's just purely focusing on my comfort - price and correlated assumptions of quality are a whole other topic of discussion.

As for lined pants, besides preventing the itchiness of wool, a lining prevents your outer pants from wrinkling as much, clinging in unfortunate places and preventing VPLs or tucked blouses showing through in thinner material. They generally look great at the end of a long work day. I do agree that sometimes the lining can feel weird if you're not used to it - after all it's usually the smooth, satiny side of material that we're not accustomed to being on the inside and in cold weather they can give you a nippy surprise.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I just spoke to CS and he said that the blackwatch tartan wool pants are fully lined. Fingers crossed because they are adorable and I just ordered them!

    ReplyDelete
  44. Lizzy T, interesting, but not surprising that we received conflicting information.

I had to wait on hold while CS went to check for every last detail on these pats, just to be sure. Given the number of non-factory wool pants that are unlined this season, I have my doubts. What a pleasant surprise it would be if they are lined, I hope you are right.

  45. Shann, thanks for the review of the Academy Coat. it looks really cute on you. I did get my Majesty Peacoat and am 'in love'. So for now my new coat requirements for this year have been met, of course, it is early in the season so there maybe another one needed.

  46. Was at my local B&M doing some online returns, did not have too much time but took a quick look around.

Colorblock-stripe long-sleeve tee. I really liked the material, more a drapy jersey material. I did not try it on but would think it would run big, since it is very boxy. Lots of bright colors but would not pay FP.

Marled henley popover. Really thick bulky sweater in an interesting, black/tan color. Not sure I would need anything that heavy.

Honeycomb cable sweater. Lots of lovely new colors looks very similiar to the Fisherman Sweater which they still had lots of color and sizes in for $59.99 - 30%.

  47. Yesterday I tried on the
pre-order Talia top in Seine stripe-which was obviously not pre-order in my store. It is rayon, and for the price, far too expensive. However, I liked the fit a lot, but the price and colorway made it a no go for me.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Did anyone order the crochet lace front tee in a small? I was just wondering if I could get the length measurement? I order the XS and it's shorter than I would like. I'm also wondering about the sage color if it's nice in person? I have been on the lookout for some reviews but no luck.

  50. To continue the fabric quality questions and observations, let me know what you think about this pic from the JC website I zoomed in on...

    http://bichonluvrscloset.blogspot.com/2011/10/uh-oh-j-crew-quality-alert.html

I'm really staying away from many items these days...
    what do you think?

    ReplyDelete
  51. Suzy - I don't know what to think of the picture. Very interesting...

I received mine today. As you may recall, I was obsessed with them. As of now, they're looking like a return. They are not jacquard (mentioned before by WMM) and they are a wool, silk, nylon blend. I ordered my same size in the wool cafe capris and these are fitting baggier. The print is not that great as I was expecting some pants with a great sheen and texture.

I'd love to hear the thoughts of everyone else!

    ReplyDelete
  52. Inboximpulse (great name!): Thank you for confirming my suspicions about the fabric on the jacquard pants. That's what I was wondering when I was zooming in.
Now I'm just really curious to see them when they show up in a few weeks. Hmmm. Baggy isn't what I was looking for.

  54. Does anyone know if that's a J. Crew sweater paired with the gimlet skirt in tinsel tweed - it's camel with a black heart on the front? By the way, when did J. Crew start selling Comme des Garcons?-- it's not on the "In Good Company" list online but it's searchable.

Otherwise - I think the green toggle coat is great (what gorgeous styling!) and think the Suzette blouse in midnight floral has potential.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Audrey, I wondered about that sweater and inquired my personal online shopper, as discussed in my blog post here:

    http://bichonluvrscloset.blogspot.com/2011/10/love-hearts_21.html

There were some photos of the other colors on another blog this week, but I don't remember which one!

  56. I really wanted to grab the Encore trench tonight after waffling about it for the past week or so. I decide to do it since the 30% off promo was running, and then...I realize that I missed it by a less than an hour. I contacted customer service to tell them about it in the hopes that they'd let me get the deal, but no. Both the online and phone customer service people were remarkably unhelpful. I can't say I'm surprised, their CS is known to have taken a huge nosedive. Still, it was incredibly disappointing.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Krista-Rae, I ordered the Crochet lace-front tee item 58195 in size small. From the center back collar to bottom t-shirt hem is 22-1/2", & to bottom of lace is 23-1/2". Shoulder to shoulder seams measure 11-1/4".

I agree w/the other comment, it runs tts to small. Order one size bigger to achieve loose, longer modeled look on website. It's def. a tee shirt w/crochet overlay, no heft to the tee. Any bumps you have will show through the tee in the back.

The dusty sage color looks like the website photo in real life.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Fai,

Do you have an online personal shopper? They are wonderful to have just in case. I bet he/she would have given you the promo/sale price. I know mine made a special exception for me once.

    ReplyDelete
  59. This rollout was incredibly small. It took me a few passes to even recognize something new. Nothing for me in this one.

Re the skirt blends, I'm with Kitsmommy on this. It's not that I hate a synthetic fabric completely. I have some wool or cotton poly blends that are pleasing. The poly helps things hold shape in small amounts. I have a few sweaters that have a small amount of nylon. Nylon is good for stretch. I really won't do acrylic though, even in small doses. It's hard and scratchy, it doesn't wash or dry clean well - it can literally become stiff - it's itchy to wear and it has an artificial look that just cannot be hidden. I can tell something with acrylic a city block away. Even on sale I won't buy that type of blend.

It's not just J. Crew, a lot of clothes manufacturers are throwing it in. It's an extremely cheap textile. I liken it to throwing a lot of macaroni into the pot to stretch the soup. Acrylic makes the wool - the pricier component - go farther so that's why they're using it.
