J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs!}

This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.

So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.

In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)

  1. I'm so in love with everything right now that J.Crew has. For starters, the Cafe Capri is a hard fit. I had to get the petite 0, instead of 0 which is what I'm normally. But they are meant to where shorter in length so the reg 0 were so long on my (I am 5'2").
The Martina Wedges fit a bit snug, if you are in between sizes, buy up (I'm a 6.5-7, so I bought 7).
The Maisie dress in the floral is so pretty in person. It's really special for only $178. I bought it in the Grey too, but I wish I would have bought the green. COLOR is where it's at!!

  2. I <3 the schoolboy blazer. Just bought the grey, size 4, and I've worn it twice already with skinny jeans. <3!

  3. Got the metallic boucle pencil skirt last week. It is way shinier in the real light than I thought.

  4. If anyone has a review of the Honeycomb Cable Sweater (fit/sizing, fabric, etc.) I would really appreciate it! TIA!

  5. I'm wearing the floating in rose skirt in my blog yesterday, I sized up as I did with the regular flair skirt from 00 to a size 2 but still can't button it.
    The fabric is beautiful.

  6. I got my cafe capris yesterday in the rose tafetta - they fit wonderfully - on me they are almost to the ankles, so they fit more like a cigarette pant, but they look wonderful and that is probably more practical for our cold canadian winters! Tabitha - did you get yours yet?

  7. Reviews of the Harvest Tweed Pencil Skirt, no. 2 Pencil Skirt in Royal Paisley, and a new No. 2 tweed Pencil Skirt on my blog:http://jcrewismyfavstore.blogspot.com/

    Have a great day!

  8. WMM: Oh how exciting! No I think mine are somewhere between US and UK, hopefully they'll be here in another week or so, I can't wait to put them on.

  9. looking for the "Around Town" sweatshirt in the blue color,if anyone sees any in their stores. (sorry, this is a question, not a review)size medium.......

  10. WMM: Did you find that the floral taffeta capris fit similarly to the Cafe capri in wool? I am usually a 4 in JC skirts and pants, but I needed a 2 in the wool cafe capri.

Also: Congrats on your jewel jacquard capris! Can't wait to hear the review. Whilst I was deciding whether I really needed them, they sold out. :) C'est la vie!

  12. I stopped by the store last week and have a few reviews up including: cafe trousers, fisherman sweater, boardwalk stripe tee, the elsie skirt and acorn fireball bracelet.

  14. I was in the Toronto J. Crew store last Friday and tried on some of the shoes. I found that the Mona pumps and the Valentina pumps both ran a half size small - I normally wear 7.5 but had to go with the size 8s. The Valentina pumps were surprisingly really nice on my foot (made them look slender!) and very comfortable for a pointed toe shoe, so I ordered those. The Mona pumps, although beautiful, were too high for me to walk in comfortably. I will wait for them to go on sale as I know I wouldn't get much use out of them.

My mom visited the U.S. last week and brought me back the Blythe shirt dress in poppy. I had seen it a while back at the store opening in Toronto, but it's still regular price there as well as online (the navy, poppy and camel were on promo up until yesterday - boo!!). She got it for $70! What a huge price difference! Anyway, the dress is really pretty, and the colour is a real statement maker. I had to go with my larger dress size as it is fitted through the waist. My Blythe blouses are size 4 but I had to go with the size 6 in the dress.

I agree with Tabitha, the floral flair skirt runs very small compared to the sizing of JC's other skirts. I had to go up 2 sizes from my usual pencil skirt size with the floral flair skirt.

Her husband will be keeping the beautiful house. Sad all around.

  17. Any comment on the fit of the wool cafe capri? Do they run TTS/ large/ small? Thanks in advance!

  18. I ordered the dotted pewter blouse from the Factory store last week and am very pleased with it. I ordered my usual size 4 and it is a bit loose, so if you prefer a closer fit, I would suggest sizing down. It is similar to the flouncette blouse from last fall.

I also ordered two of the striped tissue tees. The ivory/grey combo is a size smaller than the navy and white one. I guess it is too much to ask for the same item in different colors to fit the same.

I also finally received my vibrant flame pencil and love it. It is a surprising versitile color for me.

  19. This may be more of a vent, but I just saw that my no. 2 pencil skirt in viridian green has a hold on the back seam I've worn this skirt twice and it's already falling apart :(. It's definitely not a fit issue - the skirt fits somewhat big around the waist in my true size.

I'm still within my 60 day window, so I'm going to exchange but I'm not sure I'll even care about the skirt come January.

  20. Jbird, I found that the wool Cafe Capris fit TTS; I took the same size as I do for all my JC trousers.

  21. I just noticed the Cafe Trousers in Lined Linen are back to full price. I bought these at end of season on sale in August for like $30. They fit "relaxed" and I am digging trousers as a new "elegance." I am guessing that "trousers" are going to be a keeper for spring/summer again, since these went back to FP. The unlined versions are on sale still with an extra 30% off.

  22. i ordered a bunch of stuff so here it goes:

Paisley pencil skirt and perfect shirt: both went back. the shirt was blah. not nearly as vibrant as the skirt was. ordered my usual size and it fit well. just was lackluster. as for the skirt, i usually wear a 4, but since it was so long, i ordered the 6P. still a little too big for me though. but i also have no hips/butt. i don't think the skirt is "me" but i think the quality is great, fully lined, etc. i believe machine wash too. if they use this pattern for shorts next year, i'm in.

    sweaters:
alexie dream sweater in yellow buttercup: usual size. much brighter than i expected though. keeping despite dreaded dry clean only.
honeycomb cable sweater: to come. on way to my house now. ordered my usual size. fingers crossed. will post quickie review later.

gimlet tweed (flair) skirt: i really like this. went with the same size in the flair skirt in double serge wool (which is one size up) so size 6: laying flat= 15" at waist, 21" long. fully lined. the ivory color i thought was in it actually has a blue-ish undertone to it. looks lovely with a variety of color tops (yellow, green, blue all seem to work) and shoes (boots, pumps, oxfords). my only concern is what color legwear to wear with them. any ideas? do i go with dark brown or the light acorn color? do i attempt color tights?

also bought the bootcut cords in the same size as last year. probably could go one size smaller (at least with the black ones i already got) but at least i can toss them in the dryer and not worry about shrinking. i ordered the cinder red (darker red) too but i think the site and cataloge switch the color names so hopefully i get the right color.

  23. jbird: Personally I found the wool Cafe Capris to fit a touch on the big side, and they do stretch out slightly with wear. I have them one size down from my usual trouser size, and one size down from this year's Cafe Trouser.

However, I think whether or not you size down will depend on your shape - I found the Cafe Capri to be fine in the waist but a bit loose through the thigh in my regular size. The size down was a touch tighter in the waist but still okay and much better in the leg. HTH!

  24. So this is weird but the classic mini in felted wool popped up in my local store this weekend. It says it is an online/catalog only item, but guess not. I have been wanting to try this piece on...despite the steep price.

So I was a bit disappointed. I’ve tried on the factory version and this just barely a step above. And when I went, the factory version was on sale for close to $40 with a promo. Great that it is lined…but it was still a bit itchy on me and the material is a bit thin. The similar version last year was a nice, heavier weight material. I love the fit of this one though (flat front), a bit longer, and the modern red is lovely. If this hits sale…it is mine. Would look killer with black tights and boots.

Oh and tried on the vintage cotton long sleeve V neck tees and still too sheer. Ugh! I wish J. Crew would go back to making these with the same weight they did a couple seasons ago, but now I can’t even put on one on the vintage cotton shirts without it being see through. :( I even sized up to see if that helped and nada. So sad.

  25. Love for a super oldie-but-goodie ... today I'm sporting my persimmon wool Astrid jacket with the little tulle and Liberty fabric ruffles and it is soooooo cute and so distinctive! I think I will have lots of fun with this jacket, which I won on eBay a few days ago for $70.

I am also enjoying a more current item, a pair of studded snakeskin flat sandals. They are just divine. I'm sad I won't get many more chances to wear them before it gets really cold, but they seem very well made and they were a steal at $60 for EUC. Love!

    ReplyDelete
  26. mimi.magnolia - they are exactly like the wool capris - I size down - in JC skirts I am either a 6 or 8 depending on wear it hits at the waist. In capris I am a 6 or a 4 - this time I went with a six and I want to be able to (comfortably!) tuck things in.

    The pants are really lovely

  27. @beachcitylifestyle - Um, me too! In fact, I'm so in love with everything J.Crew has right now I nearly pledged my life to Jenna Lyons in a recent blog post called "J.Crew can give me everything I need in life (still)"

  28. I stopped by my store to checkout the new arrivals and they had received the Elements coat that I ordered during the promo, so I couldn't resist trying it on even if it's on its way to me (I tried the same size that I ordered). It is really cute, it is sportsy but it manages to be feminine thanks to the drawstring (I was wearing a pencil skirt and looked nice with it, since it is shorter). My jacket size fits perfectly in the shoulders but the sleeves are a bit long. I could probably go down a size but the fit is pretty slim and I want to be able to layer the thickest sweaters. It is more lightweight than I thought but if it really stops the wind it is fine with me (on the positive side it is comfortable to wear). Lining is acetate and not fleece.
They also had the Blythe in fiesta purple which is just beautiful and very vibrant and the new n.2 pencil skirt in vibrant rose which really didn't strike me as vibrant (it is a color between the mauve and the bright dahlia, like a powdered version of dahlia). HTHS!

  29. Got the matchstick cords in graffiti green- great color, but I wish they had stretch. Also, the site says 32" inseam and they are really only 31", 31.25" if I am measuring generously. That being said the color is great so I will be keeping them!

Betsy sweater in the green color is pretty, but strange fit. The arms are tight, the body is big, and it is a little boxy. It is also see through. I tried to wear it over a tartan button up and you could see bunching, and also the plaid pattern. Probably going back.

Cashmere boyfriend cardigan- got this one in gray. The buttons are AMAZING. I would almost keep it just for the buttons. DH says it is okay, not bad, but for a $200 it better be more than not bad! Probably going back. Might be better in a pretty color.

Eden sweater in gray. (There's a pattern here- I want a gray cardigan). Don't love it. It is a little too drapey and long and just not flattering on me unfortunately.

Will go in the to the store to return all this and hopefully find some sweaters that work better for me, it's getting cold here.

  30. Excited to hear everyone's 25% off promo reviews...here are a few:

Cashmere shawl-collar cardigan - size XS. My usual cardigan size is an S, but the description said "slouchy fit" or something to that extent, so I was worried that the S would be too big. XS fit well. I wore this all day yesterday and again today, and the arms have stretched out a bit, which is fine by me; I find JC sweaters to be very fitted in the arms. No pills yet! Happy with this one.

Cashmere Isabel sweatshirt - I tried this in my usual "pullover" sweater size, XS, in store, and it was huge. XXS fits much better. The heather caramel color is beautiful. Very comfy-cozy.

Perfect shirt in black gingham - classic, lovely. True to size.

Dolci tanks - beautiful drape and texture. Very luxurious feeling. NOT see through, even in ivory!

  31. Blythe Blouse in neon azalea. Fits nicely in my regular size. The color is, well, neon. Too bright for me, the pink on my monitor was TDF but in real life it is fluorescent.

Hutton trouser in wool flannel. I would need to size up as I can hardly button them in my regular size. But then the hips will be too wide. The camel color is pretty, they are lined and the wool is nice but the give me a long flat butt, not a pretty sight.Maybe in bigger size they would sit lower and look better.

Paisley skirt in royal purple. Very pretty, great fit and the fabric feel is amazing but I am having trouble styling it for some reason. And I think it is just me but the paisley looks scary for some reason. I had this feeling even more with the orange/cobalt parsley. Imo it is slightly more fitted in the waist than most JC pencils.

Sadly, I think all will be returns.

  32. ajc- I've been dying to hear a review on the Blythe in neon azalea. I was worried it would be too neon or such for a pink shirt. Thank you for the review, it's too bad to hear about the color. I agree that on my monitor the color looks gorgeous.

  33. Lunch Break Delivery of the pieces that I bought with the LOVEFALL promo! Extra treat: it's also my birthday :)

In-Box Skirt in Super 120's, Heather Charcoal: This last promo was the perfect opportunity to pick up work basics since they so rarely go on sale! I have yet to be disappointed with any of the Super 120's wool pieces, they are soft, lightweight, and sturdy, and this little skirt is no exception. Love the pleats in the back. I'm usually a 4 in the No. 2 Pencil skirt, but I find that I take a 6 in the Super 120's...more comfortable sitting at my desk that way.

Double Cloth Metro Coat, Dark Eggplant: I hadn't planned to buy a coat at all this year, and I ordered this one to try on with every intention of sending it back. I am SO NOT sending it back. What a gorgeous coat! The color is so lush - very true to the hue pictured online if just a tiny bit more blue, but definitely purple. The shaping is almost vintage...cut slim through the shoulders, arms, and torso, and flares into a slight A-line to just above my knees (I'm 5'8"). No vent in the back. I took my usual size 8 for jackets, but I don't think I can fit a blazer underneath this coat with the way it's cut. A normal sweater should be fine, though. Will be perfect with skirts and trousers. I've seen the double cloth coats in black and camel and wasn't all that impressed, but the fabric takes beautifully to deep color. Quality wise, it's not up to pre-2005 J. Crew standards, but it comes the closest to anything else that I've bought in several seasons. I'm glad I spent the money.

  34. Just received my Winsome Dress and LOVE it! Such a lovely print, and the dress itself is very flattering. I do wish they hadn't done the exposed zipper, but I'll be wearing a cardi over it anyway, as I can't do sleeveless in the cold months!

I also got the striped thermal tee in the cinnamon color and love this as well. It's a different texture than I imagined, but not in a bad way. Nice and thick and cozy. Should pair nicely with the cinnamon stick pencil skirt from several years back.

    ReplyDelete
  35. So glad to hear that the Metro Coat is nice, Whitney. I'm considering buying it in eggplant or black. I'm 5'9" and wasnt sure if I should go for a tall size or not. Sounds like the regular should be long enough.

OK, here are some of my reviews. I just received my herringbone hacking jacket in dark grape- I love it. I sized down from my normal blazer size and am definitely glad I did, as a prefer a more fitted look. I missed out on the Bella jacket years ago (I was in law school at the time and chose the Lexington jacket as my splurge) and this is the closest I've seen to that style since then.

Another success for me this fall is the classic flare jean (in jezebel wash). They are so comfortable and I always get compliments on them. I bought them in my regular size but I think I could have sized down (they are a little roomy around the waist). In the t-shirt dept, I definitely recommend the vintage thermal henley and the perfect fit colorblock tee. The thermal henly is a little short on my long torso but looks really cute tucked in. I also get tons of compliments on the colorblock tee- the only thing I would mention is that the top portion of the "natural block" is much darker than in the photo on the website.

Finally, some items that unfortunately did not work for me - the vintage tweed jacket and the cashmere henley. The jacket was too bulky for me. I love love all things tweed, but it was just not working. It looked like a thick sweater and I felt the detailing of the tweed did not stand out enough (I had ordered it in navy). I also was not a fan of the buttons in person. As for the cashmere henley, it did not fit the way I would like- my normal size was too tight on the arms and looked saggy around the waist/stomach.

Looking forward to the December catalog and next round of arrivals already!

  36. Can anyone comment on the fit of the Lady Lace Popover? I'm normally a size Small in JCrew sweaters and tees and was told by my SA that they run small and to size up so I ordered a Medium. After reading tons of reviews I'm now worried that it may be too large as most seem to think it runs more TTS. It's such a lovely piece and I've waited so long to purchase it that I don't want to be disappointed b/c I'm swimming in it. Can anyone reassure me? Ugh!! HATE final sale...too much pressure!! TIA! :)

  37. Caitlin: Just got the Honeycomb cable sweater in ivory. I can post pics later, but here's a quickie review:

It seems to be a little more fitted than the Fisherman cable sweater. I ordered a small (my "usual" size, if there is a usual in j.crew sizes...) and it fits perfectly. It is very soft and the ivory color is perfect. Downsides, it is slightly itchy, and the material is already shedding. It's going to be the kind of sweater where the fibers will get all over everything. I believe it is the same as the Fisherman sweater, and I felt the same way about that one. It also arrived with some red fuzzies all over...what in the world? I can pick them off, but I thought that was really weird.

HTH! Let me know if you have any other specific questions!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Lisa_Groves: I would say the lady lace is true to size to small. I wear an XS or small, mostly small in J.Crew sweaters. In the small, I found it roomy around the chest area. If i sized down for a more fitted and less sweatshirt look, it was very tight in the arms though great everywhere else. Also, I felt the vintage champagne color ran smaller than the other colors. In the end I went with the small because I don't care for the tight arm look and also I can layer a shirt underneath if I like.

Checking the chest measurements, I "should" have worn an XS but again, the arms were extremely tight in the XS. For reference, I wear an XS in their tees, small in most sweaters, a size 2 in shirts.

Bottom line: the lady lace runs a tad small due to the arms.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Thanks Cleo...hopefully it won't be large and sloppy. You've given me reassurance!

    ReplyDelete
  40. On the Vintage Thermal Henleys, how do they fit? I sized up a size because I wanted to wear them with flannel bottoms. I know, odd, but if the assumption is you wear t-shirts with flannel bottoms for sleep, that's not warm enough. On NAP it said something like "semi-fitted"?

    ReplyDelete
  41. My 25% off order included:

-No. 2 pencil skirt in corduroy. I ordered the shadow color. Fit is very fitted in my usual pants size. Can anyone comment on whether this has shrunk when machine washed/dried (on low)? I think sizing up would result in it being too big. Also, can anyone comment on whether this stretches with wear? Regardless, it's a nice basic item that I snagged for a great price.

-Vintage thermal tee in black. Love this! Fit is fitted, but TTS to small. It's nice and thick and the neckhole isn't too tight or too scooped, so it'll still be cozy thru winter. Don't size up unless you want a loose fit.

-Excursion quilted vest in candied cherry. This color was, thankfully, exactly how I expected. It's a bright orangey, pinky red. I love it. Fit is TTS to slightly large, but I did try it on with a thin tee and would likely wear it over a sweater, so I would recommend ordering your usual size. The length is good, too (CS told me 26" from back neck to hem).

-Blouson dress in polka dot. I love the dots. Unfortunately the fit is not great for me. I wear one size larger on top than on bottom so the skirt part of the dress is too loose and baggy in the hips/thighs. I haven't decided if I will keep it and get it tailored. The material is nice and I love that the waist is elastic.

-Boatneck perfect fit tee in monterey pine. Love the color. Fit is TTS. The monterey pine is a beautiful deep green but not too cool (cool forest greens do not flatter me). I think the royal paisley scarf would look nice with this.

  42. Sherpa zip hoodie in Chili - GREAT vivid red, but lord it's small - generally I take a 4 or 6 in J Crew, size S in sweaters, but the medium barely zipped up in this one. the sherpa lining feels a bit too bulky.

Hadley sweater in charcoal: Softer and lighter than expected (people said this was chunky and stiff but I did not find this to be the case at all). Runs a bit small too, fits like a top rather than a sweater you'd wear something under, so definitely size up. Size M bust measurement was quoted as 35 inches. Buttons on shoulder super cheap and chintzy, some sort of matte plastic.

Buckle love ballet flats in warm taupe - to die for warm beigey tan shade but wouldn't this just have to be the one pair of J Crew ballets that do NOT run small (and I bought on final sale); generally I wear 7.5 in everything but J Crew ballet flats so I got an 8. Can make them work with an insole but annoyed (anyone have a 7.5 to swap?)

    ReplyDelete
  43. I think the lady lace popover runs TTS. I agree that it is fitted through the arms but very loose in the body. It is well made and the vintage champagne is a pretty color.

I ordered the Handbook pump from Madewell and they were waiting on my doorstep. It is a beautiful shoe and is the most amazing shade of green. However, it is a really stiff shoe with a platform that does not flex at all. I feel like I am walking on stilts. Also, they run about 1/2 size short. They are definitely going back, but I wish they had worked.

I would complete recommend the pennyloafer or pennyloafer pump as they are both adorable and comfortable.

  44. Lisa_Groves, I don't think you will be swimming in that sweater. Let us know how it turned out.

  45. just saw some new arrivals in my store that usually gets everything new 2 weeks before everyone else, posted some pics on my blog if anyone is interested. Will post more Friday, i'm going back for more =0)

  46. Perfesser, thanks for the Sherpa Zip Hoodie comment. So this year's version must fit the same as last year's. I have both the S and M from last year, and the lining sure takes up a lot of space, making the S fit very snug. This year I ordered an M just to make sure. I live in these hoodies around the house during winter.

  47. I broke down and finally ordered the flat Booker boot. I had tried them on at my B&M, but they didn't carry the chocolate color which is the color I wanted. Even with 25% off, these boots still don't warrent a $200 price tag. However, this is the style and color of boot I've been searching for so I'm going to keep them. I might order the black if they go on final sale. I wear a 7 1/2 in most Jcrew shooes and found these ran TTS.

    ReplyDelete
  48. AppGal: Thank you so much for the review! I'm pretty sensitive when things are itchy, so unfortunately the Honeycomb might be a pass for me. I may still cave and try it though, it's such a pretty sweater!

That is so strange about the red fibers, I wonder where those would have come from?

    ReplyDelete
  49. Crochet-front lace tee (58195) in white - cute, but the back is totally see-through and the non-crocheted part is a "slub" cotton with visible slubs on the arms/back. Would be cute under a blazer (on super sale).

Vintage thermal sweatshirt (59074) - boxy, but warm and soft. The banded hem makes the bottom tighter than the shoulders.

Vintage thermal henley (58405) - tight-ish arms, warm, soft. The "waffles" are more pronounced than the waffle shirts from years past. Navy stripes almost look black on the champagne background.

Perfect-fit ribbon henley (50890) - Great shape, thicker than all of the other paper-thin knits JC's offering. Maraschino cherry color is luscious.

    ReplyDelete
  50. @Elizabeth- I agree with the other reviewers. The vintage henley runs TTS to a little small. I found my normal t-shirt size (x-small) a little tight around the wrists. I decided to keep it, but might try a size small if I buy more later on.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Just my $0.02 on the Sherpa Zip Hoodie this season - I think it fits TTS. I ordered my usual knit top size and it fits just fine. It is a slim fit but it fits the same way a sherpa zip hoodie from several years ago fits on me. Maybe Perfesser's was mis-sized?

  52. Wearing my new navy Flair Skirt with the navy Lady Lace Popover today and it's so cute and comfortable -- love! Not the most original or daring of pairings, but the navys match and it looks cute with cognac boots/bag and my tan fiona.

  53. The cafe pants are in beautiful colors, but unlined! Pants at that price point should be lined. Martina wedges run 1/2 size small and Mona pumps 1/2 size small. Wear a 10, ordered an 11 in the Mona, but those are too big in the toe box and slip off my heels (even tried a heel guard). The new Martina leopard print are beautiful, but $358? Overtime necktie top in bird's-eye tweed is beautiful, but the neck is very tight. Ordered my usual size and felt strangled by the neck (two button closure in the back). Pants, Monas and top going back this weekend.

  54. I'm sure this has been commented on a million times, but would someone mind commenting on sizing for double-cloth coats. I've never ordered a coat before and I am usually a 4 or 6 in tops, small in sweaters. I'm wondering if a 6 would be good or if I should size up to an 8 to allow room for sweaters underneath. The thing is, I hate when coats are not fitted right and I don't want too much extra room. TIA!

    ReplyDelete
  55. @CrewGurl - I have a number of the Double Cloth Coats from various seasons. I'm a size 0-2 (mostly 0) in J.Crew tops and I've always purchased a 2 in the Double Cloth. Since the general J.Crew sizing recently got larger, I tried on a Double Cloth Coat at the Rockefeller Center B&M last week just to check, and sure enough I'm still a size 2! The sleeves are a little long for me but that's the only real difference I've noticed in this season's coats. So, I would say they're TTS but get on the larger size of your range so you have room for sweaters, etc. Enjoy!

  56. @Crew Gurl (again) - Sorry, just noticed you said you DON'T want too much room. I would go for the 6, then. Good luck!

  57. @ FFM: Thank you!!!
@ brooke: IMHO, go for the Eggplant. The color really is lovely.
@ starfish28: I have a No. 2 Pencil in corduroy from last year, and it did shrink a little when I washed it. Does not seem to stretch/bag during wear. My only beef with this skirt is that it is unlined and the darn thing sticks to tights when I wear them with it. Must invest in a half slip.
@ ViewFromTheHill: A thousand times yes to lined Cafe Pants! No to itchy legs and vpl's.
@ crewgurl: Based on the Metro Coat, I think you should be fine w/ a size 6 in the Double Cloth. I wouldn't size up unless you want to be able to fit a Schoolboy blazer underneath.
Related topic: If anybody is in the market for a great all-purpose winter coat that looks polished and will keep you toasty warm, get the Plaza Coat w/ Thinsulate. I have a black one from ca. 2002 (when the Plaza came in wool/cashmere...ahhhhhhh) that has seen me through a decade of snowy mid-Atlantic winters, college and career. The interior lining is busted and needs replaced, but the shell looks as good as new.

  59. Hope everyone is getting something fun with the extra 30%

I reviewed the floral taffeta cafe capris (and the toile cafe capris again!) on my blog here

  60. Crochet Lace Front tee, white - Ordered my usual tee size. It's fitted but not tight. The back is see-through. I put a thin fitted tank under it and that took care of this problem. I may exchange it for a darker color, because of this, but I really love the white lace front.

Daisy lace tee, black - Again, my usual size fits well. I think I need to wear a strapless bra with it. I tried it with a black bra. The straps show and this doesn't bother me, but the top of the bra shows a bit. This does bother me. I'm not sure it blends in well with the lace design, might look too 'hoochy'. I do love the lace though. Anyone else try this top and have suggestions on how to make it work?

Pintuck Lace Shell, french vanilla - Color is more yellowy beige IRL than what appears on my monitor. I may exchange it for another color.
I definitely need to exchange it for a smaller size, gapes way too much at the armhole.

  61. The gingham flannel pajamas are really nice. It's not a fuzzy flannel, it's smooth and finished. The fit is TTS and the waist is drawstring. I'm not seeing much elastic in the waist but they are nice, both the navy and the grey.

The vintage thermal knit henleys do fit TTS to small. I ordered a size up for sleeping and I'm glad I did. They don't fit huge, just slightly looser which is perfect. These are decent quality for the promo price. I got several colors in solid and stripe but the gold buttons on the navy probably look best.

  62. I received my modest 25% off order yesterday. The interoffice skirt is fabulous. A "mad men" style pencil skirt. I love the subtle texture to the fabric and it reads more navy in person than on the website. It is long, so some of you will not care for it. Those of you tired of my incessant whining about J. Crew skirts being too short will be glad to know I'm finally happy with one of their offerings! This is an amped up basic I will wear for years. It sits on the waist and fits true to size.

I also received the Paley pant in super 120s. I got the warm sienna color which is a nice camel shade. Thanks to those of you who described it to me! My inability to find a camel pencil skirt has been the source of much consternation (the super 120s pencil skirt in warm sienna is too short for me) so I'm settling for camel pencil pants, ha! I bought my normal J. Crew size in pants and the fit is great. They are a narrow leg but not to much for the office.

I also purchased the Blythe blouse in poppy. I hadn't seen it in person and am dismayed that the color is much more pink than red. If it wasn't final sale it would be going back. Otherwise, I echo others who have reviewed it - great blouse, fits pretty much TTS, nice silk.

    here.

  64. Just posted this in Alexis' review of the Encore but thought I would ask here as well :)
I love the idea of this coat but didn't consider buying it until now as I couldn't try it on anyway. All these positive reviews and the sale price are making me reconsider :) So thanks to the chic chauffeur I have my normal size on hold in KS.
Can anyone tell me where it was $199 as Alexis posted? (The SA in KS quoted me $240)
And sizing: I havent been able to try anything on until now but just bought the lace blouson dress in 4. I think the only JCrew coats I have are the travel trench in 4 and the Tuesday trench in 2. Do you think I should stick with a 4 in the Encore? Tia :)

  65. Mother Nature was kind and we did not get the multiple feet of snow predicted and Mr. UPS was able to get through with my 25% off purchases.

Majesty Peacoat. I purchased in Heather Graphite and Heather Charcoal. I loved the Heather Graphite, the other color just did not appeal to me seemed like an off black and kinda blah. Even the material of the HG seemed softer. It fits like a dream, I did purchase in 6P and it is perfect. I tried with a thick sweater, shirt and cardigan and it worked. Even though I had seen this in the stores in Navy it really seemed so much nicer in the lighter grey.

Minnie Pants in Stretch Twill, I have these in Coal, from an end of year sale last year and love them. So purchased in British Khaki and Black. Did not like the BK on me, showed every lump and bump. The black I am undecided about and will try on again to make my keep or take back decision.

Sequin Stripe Tee. I ordered this in XS and S, since I have been taking both sizes this year. I like the fit of the S more, the XS seemed a little tight with the sequins and stitching. I thought it was really well made and nice combo of stripes/sequins in a lovely shade of blue.

Crochet lace-front tee in Black. Runs TTS, I took a S. This is my poor man's version of the Lady Lace Popover and I think I will get more wear out of it. Of course, if the LLP goes on a great sale I may make a purchase.

  66. Tried on the Factory hipslung jeans I received yesterday, and boy do those run small. I currently wear a 28 in the J.Crew bootcut, but the 28 in the Factory hipslung seemed about a size too small for me. Might try the 29 at a Crewlet, if I can make it to one.

  67. Hi I'm new here as I'm in Australia & we don't get jcrew down here! but I was just in NY over Nov and unfortunately didn't see any of these lovely pieces....I need help and you guys seem to be the experts - can people please help? Ive never tried on the pants and skirts but am super interested in the cafe capri and minnie pants as well as the pencil no. 2 skirt. I'm a 0 in most US clothes but am a bit curvy on the bottom - muscular calves so I'm 26 in jeans. Any advice what size I would take in Jcrew? Would the tops also be a 0 or are they large to size? Thanks all!!!

  69. DW, the tops run generally bigger than the bottoms but it really depends on the styles. I would size down to a 00 in the Minnies for sure (I am a real 0 and these are the only pants at JCrew where I wear 00). HTH!
