This is the weekly "Help Style Me!" post, where we can share items we are having trouble putting outfits together with. Elaine (in this post) says it best, "You know, that thing you bought because you love it and you keep pulling it out and then putting it away without wearing it?"
Please share your J.Crew item (either that you own or are thinking about getting) that you would love help creating an outfit with.
Also, please help out by offering your styling advice. Feel free to include links to your blog (where you incorporated that piece) or to Polyvore (where you showcased an outfit with that piece). Thanks in advance! :)

ReplyDeleteJust got the no. 2 pencil in vibrant flame and I LOVE the color, but am trying to figure out what to wear with it on top. I know I can't be as crazy with color as the Jcrew catalogue, but all white/cream will be boring and black seems like it's not an option without looking like I've dressed for the upcoming holiday. Would love any suggestions!
ReplyDeleteHi - this is slightly off topic - but you folks are THE experts, so thought I would ask you all - in the picture of the new Kendora cardigan, there are lovely capri pants. I talked to the personal shopper who told me they were cape capris in jewel, were released on-line and instores and they are all sold out. For the life of me, I cannot recall every seeing them before. AM I crazy (!) they looked to me like perhaps an upcoming holiday item, but would love to know if anyone has seen these pants along the way! thanks - wendy
ReplyDeletecae33: Vibrant Flame looks great paired with Navy Blue or Camel. You could also wear it with a patterned shirt in those colors such as the Boy shirt in stripe crepe de chine in Navy or the Silk polka-dot tee.
ReplyDeleteHi WMM - I've never seen those pants anywhere before. I personally think that they're a Holiday item that hasn't been released yet.
ReplyDeleteI recently bought the Kirtley satchel in the redwood color and have no idea what to pair with it! Any suggestions?
ReplyDeleteWMM: Oh yes, just spotted them, they are fab, I still have the other ones in my basket - fingers crossed they come down in price - we are on the loud pants bandwagon!
ReplyDeleteWMM... yeah, i've never seen them either... maybe the PS got them confused with the floral print ones? (which i don't think are sold out either, but...)
ReplyDeleteNo. 2 Pencil in the store-only teal? I LOVE the color, but other than pairing it with the Pixel Dot Perfect Shirt, I'm not sure what to do with it. Thanks for any inspiration you all can offer!

ReplyDeletecae33: I would dare a leopard print top or even a denim shirt with the vibrant flame skirt.

ReplyDeleteIdeas for what to pair with the dusty clay matchstick cords?
ReplyDeleteLoved how the model looked in the catalog wearing those with a bright orange top. However, the cords look much more mauve or pinkish than in the catalog. Not sure if I want to keep them....
Any great ideas other than orange?? :))
Lauren S.: I am in the same boat as you! I have the in-store-only teal No. 2 pencil skirt on its way to me from a we will find it. I am so excited to wear it, but I can only think to pair it with navy and purple. I thought about maybe with a navy jackie cardi and skinny leopard belt?
ReplyDeleteI will need to have it in my hands to match it with other colors ... I wish it were on polyvore! Any further thoughts on styling would be appreciated.
Sally: I'm always a fan of mauve and gray together. I'm not sure if you were looking for a pop of color or not, but that's a go-to combo for me.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I would look at the undertones. Maybe a really bright pink if you are looking for something more striking?
Sally: I was just looking at the picture and thought maybe a darker rosewood or plum color would look pretty too. Like the fisherman sweater in deep plum for example, or the turtleneck sweater in jazzy purple.
ReplyDeleteWMM - I started a chat session with a SA on the website. They were indeed the cafe capris in jewel print jacquard. They are sold out online, but she didn't mention anything about the stores.
ReplyDeleteHow sad! I really love these pants on the model and I never remember them being up on the site.
Sounds like another issue with J.Crew selling out of their best items and leaving others to die a slow, long death in final sale.

Sally and pretty addicted, I have the turquoise pencil and I do love it with a navy pinstriped suiting blouse in my closet. I also like it with camel, gray and the shade of blue in this Brittany jumper from Boden.
ReplyDeleteI think it could go well with quite a few prints including animal-prints in the right colors.
Sorry, my link didn't work. Trying again, this shade of blue here.
ReplyDeleteI really don't think those pants are sold out - they were probably not released yet (JCA's watch the site like a hawk, and nobody's mentioned seeing them anywhere except in that pic of the Kendor cardigan) or they just decided not to produce them. I think when we contact CS most of the time they're just looking at the same site that we are... and if they don't see anything pop up then they assume they're sold out. They should at least be able to provide an item number to do a store search if they were ever available.
ReplyDeleteThanks xoxo! I especially like the idea of the teal with camel. I will have to give your ideas a try :)
ReplyDeletesilver lining I agree that those cafe capri pants are not sold out. I can't find a record of them anywhere online ... usually if you do a Google search you can at least find the product page where it says the item is sold out. The pants don't even come up on kaboodle or polyvore or anything like that. FWIW, I too think they are either coming up for holiday or they were never produced.
I'm going to solve this! I just emailed a personal shopper looking for the item number - at least they could provide that.
ReplyDeleteI agree that I always get a hit on google even if it is sold out.
Another question: I have never seen this skirt or heard it mentioned, but the same print was featured in a perfect shirt recently. Did anyone see this on the site?
Sally-
ReplyDeleteI'm going to pair the dusty clay cords with leopard print (the perfect shirt) and shades of camel (love them with the camel cable crewneck). I also think they look really good with black and gray. I
inboximpulse: I think that skirt was from late spring or so. I vaguely remember seeing it a while ago in a store, but as for it being on the site I can't say I recall. It's on polyvore though: click here.
ReplyDeleteWish I were more of a help!
inboxpulse, that skirt is from spring/summer. I bought it earlier this year and wore it quite a bit, it's a great cotton pencil skirt and was discussed quite a bit on this blog when it first reviewed. It was featured on other blogs as well. You can see it (although not modeled) on my blog in this post.
ReplyDeleteThere is a new perfect shirt in a similar pattern but new colors and rumor has it that a skirt in the new colors will be available soon as well.
HTH
^ I mean when first "released".
ReplyDeleteThanks Ladies! my PS said it was #58447 for those pants - I get no hits on them. I am hoping they are indeed a holiday item as she said they are $199 US. Tabitha - you are very right - we are officially the sisterhood of the loud pants - those floral ones are in my shopping cart as well, waiting, waiting for a small decrease!
ReplyDeletexoxo and prettyaddicted - thanks for the help. I kept reading about a paisley pencil skirt coming soon, so I googled it and that was what I found.
ReplyDeleteThe pattern in the shirt is gorgeous, so I would love to see other items using the same pattern.
Thanks everyone! I'm feeling more inspired.....love those cords, just need to find the right match for them in my closet :))
ReplyDeletecae33: I wore my new double-serge pencil skirt in vibrant flame with my new silk polka dot tee earlier this week and LOVED the way it turned out. I had been dreaming of the combo ever since I bought the top and it did not disappoint!
ReplyDeleteI would also think it'd be pretty with pale pinks or ochre, but I haven't tried that yet.
Oops, meant to leave the link above:
ReplyDeleteHere are some pics of how I wore the skirt with the polka dots.
Just a theory, but those beautiful pants that are paired the Kendor Cardi, could they have sold out in the preorder? I do believe that has happened before. Usually though you will see a random popback or two though.
ReplyDeleteApropos of nothing in this thread, I'm torn about what time to hit the Chapel Hill sale tomorrow. It would be a big disruption to my son's and husband's morning routines to try to be there for when the doors open at 8 am. 9 or even 10 would be so much more feasible...
ReplyDeleteBut I worry the lines might be too long by then. And if I wait, I don't want to be mad that I missed out on the best selection. Arrrgggghhhh.
The prospect of cheap shoes and dresses makes me drool. Coworker says they give you a garbage bag to hold your haul, and she gave me a tip - pad the bottom with clothes before adding shoes. She lost a pair of shoes right out the bottom when her bag tore, lol.
Chapel Hill is a dang hour from my house and in the same direction as rush-hour traffic. I'll probably end up arriving after 8. I hope the line to get in isn't too long.
I'll report back from the front lines...wish me luck, y'all!
Oh, I want to warn all potential JCA attendees that I will surely look SCARY having risen so early in the morning. You think I'm kidding, but I'm not. lmao! Hope to see some of you there...
The mystery is solved on the cafe capris in jeweled jacquard. Read the story here on my blog.
ReplyDeleteHi-only my second post, but love to read all your comments and check in often for all your reviews! Elaine, good luck tomorrow. I've been debating all week wether or not to go. I was just at the local store today and bought way too much so I think I'm gonna pass. Hope you find some great things!
ReplyDeleteInboximpulse! Thank you! Have sent you an email for further information! You have made me really happy as I see myself wearing these as my go-to pants for the holiday season! Yippee!
ReplyDeleteWendy
I just got the Striped Blouson dress in neon pink and want to wear it to an evening wedding. I'll probably layer up with a black blazer and gold jewelry. Any thoughts on shoes to wear with??
ReplyDeleteJust received the Origami mini skirt in toile jacquard. Would love suggestions on what to wear with it other then a denim shirt! thanks!
