This is the weekly "Help Style Me!" post, where we can share items we are having trouble putting outfits together with. Elaine (in this post) says it best, "You know, that thing you bought because you love it and you keep pulling it out and then putting it away without wearing it?"
Please share your J.Crew item (either that you own or are thinking about getting) that you would love help creating an outfit with.
Also, please help out by offering your styling advice. Feel free to include links to your blog (where you incorporated that piece) or to Polyvore (where you showcased an outfit with that piece). Thanks in advance! :)
Hi ladies! I'm looking for suggestions on how to Winterize the Surf Tweed Charter skirt. Thanks!

ReplyDeleteSubscribing. :)
ReplyDeleteWebsite update, woohoo! This must mean there's a new catalog out too. I'll swing by a B&M tomorrow and see if I can get one to scan.
ReplyDeleteNew Arrivals online this morning. :)
ReplyDeleteThe jewel capris that were discussed in a previous thread are online now, but also sold out. Café capri in jewel jacquard".
ReplyDeleteFFM: I can't believe they've gone already!
ReplyDeleteBourbon & Pearls: That's crazy, isn't it? I'm sure they'll probably pop back in limited sizes or even show back up in full stock eventually though.
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone have ideas for the September Sweater? I wore it with black leggings and flats but it felt like it was missing something. Ideas for layering or accessorizing would help.
ReplyDeleteThanks FFM - I have already been on the phone with them this morning about these pants - I was dealing with a personal shopper earlier in the week who kept not calling me back in a vain attempt to pre-order them... sigh... they are searching for me, but I am not really that hopeful. I think it is absolutely bizarre that they are sold out as soon as they are on-line! Very disheartening, as I truly love them!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure some may like the look but I think it's ridonkulous to pair the paisley shirt with the paisley skirt. "Help Style Me!" indeed.
ReplyDeleteI like the Keynote dress in deep lagoon. I bought the 120's Emmaleigh dress in peacock and the quality looked to be on par with previous suiting pieces but I just didn't like that it was more green than blue so I returned it. The lagoon appears to be a pretty blue color and the neckline is high enough that I won't be flashing any cleavage.
Good morning! I am looking for suggestions on how to wear the navy liquid silk skirt, in particular to an evening reception. It seems to me that this skirt needs a very cropped and fitted top but for the life of me I can't come up with anything better than the cashmere Jackie (in the dust rose color). I don't particularly like how it is styled on the website with the henna turtleneck. Do you ladies wear a jacket with it?
ReplyDeleteWhat are the clever JCAs wearing with the Flair Skirt in cool pine? I am not a green girl but fell in love with the skirt, but now am a bit stumped with what to pair with it besides white or ivory. Cropped sweaters? Cardigans? Tuck-in shirts only? I can't seem to get it right.
ReplyDeleteI have the flair skirt in navy and acorn, but I think you could pair the green with what I have been wearing with navy .
ReplyDeleteSo far I have worn:
Cropped jeans jacket, tucked in short sleeve cream silk blouse
Cider striped silk boyshirt (tucked in)
Black and white Annalise factory cami and cropped cashmere cardi
Ivory & navy factory merino striped sweatshirt
I do prefer the skirt with tucked in tops. I have found a couple of fitted items that hit high hip tha work too.
Clicquot: I also like it worn with the Jackie, it sits just at the right point of the waistband.
ReplyDeleteWhat a bummer about the jeweled jacquard pants. I placed a pre-order but the PS never told me if I secured a pair.
ReplyDeleteShe did tell me that they wouldn't ship until late October, so maybe they are going to release more? I'll keep you all updated on if they arrive and what they look like.
I find it hard to believe that no one from this site was able to secure a pair and they're sold out.
WMM - I hope you weren't having difficulties with Meg?
Ok, I have my bright blue berry trim astrid, FINALLY. How do you ladies wear it? I already know it looks great with white or gray tops underneath but I'm also interested in something a bit more interesting.
ReplyDeleteIboximpulse,
ReplyDeleteThanks - no - no trouble with Meg - with my old PS.
I am bummed as I see them wearing those with a lovely white blouse and cobalt ballet flats.... sigh....
I'm looking for a charcoal or navy dress to go with these amazing shoes. I want the dress to be work appropriate because I need to justify the expense of the shoes. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm between the following three dresses. Two are in wool crepe the other is in Super 120s. Does anyone have any insight?
Memo dress in super 120s
Origami dress in wool crepe (I'm unsure on the short sleeves for winter)
Index dress in wool crepe

ReplyDeleteInboxImpulse, in my opinion, those dresses look best with pumps. I would wear those shoes with a thick tweed skirt or wool pants. JMHO
ReplyDeleteEma, did you try that Joe Fresh blouse and a very cropped jacket OR cardi with it?
ReplyDeleteInbox Impulse, what about the Winnie Dress? I see Rose's point; those suiting dresses can be really formal and I too tend to wear them with pumps rather than my chunkier shoes. The Winnie is a bit more casual since it is knit but still very much a work appropriate dress. You could layer it with a blazer, sweater, or even wear a thin tee/tissue turtleneck under it to change it up since it can be plain on its own.
ReplyDeleteAll good points - thanks JcrewJD and Rose. Maybe these would look better with a cropped pant like the bi-stretch minnie in charcoal?
ReplyDeleteI said the redwood minnies were going back last week, but I couldn't part. I found that they look adorable with many things and goofy with just a few. I would like another pair.
Momoberry- I just wore my Surf Tweed Charter out the other day with fuschia tights and brown boots. I found that the bright pink against the skirt's minty shades gave it a fun between-seasons look. I hope that helps!
ReplyDeleteAlso, any of you girls happen to own/recognize this blazer? I just snagged it off ebay as a cheaper alternative to the (sigh with me!) berry-colored hacking jacket. Would just be curious to know what it was called/what season it was from so as to compare it with other more well-known styles (schoolboy, bella, etc).

Lizzy, that's definitely an oldie but goodie! I saw it and knew a JCA would be the one to snag it... glad you did! It's really pretty. I am guessing it is from 2004 or 2005 but not sure. I just won a cashmere jacket that has similar piping/finishing on the inside; I'm betting they are from the same season. I am due to receive it tomorrow and will find out then how old it is!
ReplyDeleteLizzy, that's a gorgeous piece - looks like 2004/2005 to me. Will be interested to hear how you like it (same for you too, J.CrewJD!) - I love hearing about JCA's eBay finds.
ReplyDeleteJCrewJD and silver_lining-- Thanks, I was thinking it was from somewhere in the 2004-2006 vicinity, since I have a cotton blazer from back then and the lining is similar. I've got high hopes for this piece myself, since (sad to say) the quality of the fabric/overall craftsmanship back then was so superior; will def let you know how it turns out in next week's thread!
ReplyDeleteJ.CrewJD - try your blue berry trim astrid jacket with navy blue or (the right shade of) purple or golden/honey colors. I think greens would work too but I haven't tried because I don't do well with green ;)
ReplyDeleteRose, thanks for the suggestion but the Joe Fresh blouse is cotton and I can't tuck in a cotton blouse (it is going to show). I have posted a few options on my blog, if you want to stop over!
ReplyDeleteGoing to the ballet next weekend (DRACULA) and wondering the newly purchased MAISY dress (watercolor purple print) is a good pick for the ballet if so, what color cardigan would I pair with and heels?
ReplyDeleteThanks.
I just won the Rafaella Dress on eBay. I am pretty clueless on how to style it, though. I know how I'd wear it for evening but is there a way to tone it down to wear in a more casual setting?

ReplyDeleteA review of the Wool Cowlneck Poncho on my blog, or maybe a cry for help....... here
ReplyDeleteI love it, but am not sure it loves me. May or may not be a keeper. Feel free to chime in!
I've done a little Polyvore research, and have seen it layered over striped shirts..... Just trying to decide: is this outerwear? I think it is meant to take the place of a sweatshirt, maybe as you are watching soccer?
