ReplyDeletejust sayin' for the umpteenth...
Bought the Chambray Stripe Tee on Monday (final sale). Wore it today, loved the look. Took it off tonight to find a sea of holes underneath both arms. No way to repair it. Ugh. Only spent $20, but considering I only wore it for 12 hours before I had to throw it out, probably not such a good deal. Thanks for listening to me vent!

ReplyDeleteIf you still have the shirt, you should absolutely take it back to a store, or call customer service. Final Sale or not, that is defective merchandise.
If you bought it online, I would take pictures and send it to customer service. Heck, send the pictures to Mickey!
At the very least they should give you a store credit.
Samantha...take it back! Final sale or not...that is terrible and JCrew should take responsibility! Sorry to give my two cents, but this is the kind of stuff that makes me crazy. Even at $20 the shirt should last more than one wear!
ReplyDeleteThis may have been vented about before, but why are my chino shorts "gentle wash.". Or for that matter, my husband's t-shirts? Or kids shorts? Really how can I get me 4 year olds shorts clean using the gentle cycle? I am not talking fancy stuff, shorts and tees. I know it is so whrn it falls apart they can say I didn't read the care label. J. Crew should make stuff to last through the regular wash. Thanks for listening.
ReplyDeletegeorgine-- are they really gentle wash? huh. never noticed. i just throw all my cotton chinos in the wash on a regular cotton cycle... never had a problem. t-shirts too... unless they have some fancy decoration (like beads) on them...

ReplyDeletePurchased a Jackie cardi from an outlet store. Wore it once and washed it in cold water and air dried. The placket where the buttons were shrunk up, making it looked scrunchy in the middle. It was then way too small for and I had to sell it on ebay :( So sad.
ReplyDeleteJCrew's swimsuit sizing used to be very consistent. Have not bought a suit since fall 2010. What is up with it out of curiosity? One pieces? two pieces? thanks.

ReplyDeleteThe flip flops from the outlet stores are hard as rocks. I could not believe the difference in quality and the price was the same as the regular stores sale price! I am so glad I waited and picked up a pair at the regular store a week later!
ReplyDelete(original) Genny, last winter I noticed that the bikini bottoms were fitting large. Unfortunately I was wearing them in the water at the time and had to hold them up to get out. I ordered the Casbah bikini this season and the bottoms in my usual size were huuuge and the top was so small I could not get it done up. Used to be able to order my size and be guaranteed of a perfect fit. Not any more. I'm afraid to buy another suit now.
ReplyDeleteInteresting info re the swimsuit sizing xoxo etc. I have had no luck over the years with JC swimsuits ever fitting me - they were always too big plus often they just fit weird IRL/I didn't like them. I was happy to see that this year they now were offering XXS. So I just ordered a few pieces recently on sale, incl one full price piece to make a set - the polkadot grommet short and a matching top that seems to have disappeared (full price piece), the matching bandeau top with grommet. In the past, all bikini bottoms were too big for me in XS, and tops really didn't work either. I figured this bandeau might work as it was XXS and I could use a little "light padding" although it didn't say if it was removable, I hoped it was. Well the bottoms fit and to be honest, if someone were any bigger than me I would worry the bottoms would not be "full coverage" in the butt area, and believe me, I am way unendowed in the hips/butt. As for the top, sadly it is too big. I would say that the padding is minimal and not objectionable, and probably if you have say a 32A or so it would likely fit fine. So, in any case, it seems that the XXS bottoms, at least for this suit the bottom is running small, at least as far as coverage, particularly given the style (and I ordered 2 colors that both fit this way), but the top is probably true to size for XXS. Hope this info helps for what it's worth..the suit is really cute (both pieces).
ReplyDeleteI caught the Carmichael popover on popback last week, got it in the mail yesterday, and it smells about as bad as you can imagine. I wanted to vomit when I took it out of the bag. WTF???
ReplyDeleteMy 'bad' experience was calling the 1-800 number to get info on the handbag from slide 13/ 19 of the Fall Look book :( I called and was put on hold repeatedly for about 15 minutes b/c the rep was 'new' and the computer was 'slow'. Then she didn't have ANY info after 15 mins so she had to transfer me to a Sales Specialist. He only took 5 mins to look up the bag and I pre-ordered it in black :) I figured the price might got up, and I won't owe anything on my card come September, so why not? :) The bag is like $278 btw :)
ReplyDeleteEllen, that happened to me with a popback knit top. The stench was horrific (BO) plus the top was ripped under the armpit. I called customer service and got the OK to return it because it was final sale. I didn't even want to touch that thing. Can't imagine the person who would wear something (sans anti-perspirant, apparently) and rip it and then return it. Ick.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if J Crew has figured out that people aren't buying certain categories of items now. I see people writing "no more tees" (me too on that one) and "no more swimsuits" for legitimate reasons, size or quality or both. For me it's "no more Perfect shirts" after finding that the neckline for my size 14 is an astounding TWENTY INCHES. If I buy a shirt now it's only because I'm planning to completely remodel it or to scavenge the fabric to make something entirely different.
ReplyDeleteI'm a little worried that the package that UPS delivered to my house this morning, containing only the paisley bermuda shorts, supposedly weighs 2 pounds. Could be another case of J.Crew delivering the completely wrong item instead of the now sold out awesome item that I was lusting after for weeks. I sure hope not.
ReplyDeleteYes, I completely agree about the swimsuit sizing. I thought I was just weirdly shaped, but I'm glad to know its them. I bought an underwire one piece last season and the cup size was tiny, so this year I thought I'd smarten up and buy the special D-cup size. The suit I got is horrendous, I wear a D cup bra, but this swimsuit is made for Dolly Parton or something. Also, I ordered a size 4 both times, one is huge and one barely covers my bum!
ReplyDeleteChiming in on the swimsuit discussion: I received mine today. The ruffle underwire top is teeny--really looks like an A rather than a B cup, and the Shelly bottom and tie skirt, while roughly TTS, dug into my flesh in a very unattractive way. I know that some of that is my figure, but I don't think sizing up would have helped. I might have considered keeping them if there were any tops left in my size in the same color. Thank goodness these items weren't final sale, because they're all going back

ReplyDeleteHexicon: Sad to hear that the Shelley bottom digs into the waist! I was hoping that it would be just the type of bottom I needed, covering up my soft bits in my low belly! Since I'm thick-waisted, sounds like it would do the same thing to me...darn!
ReplyDeleteAppGal, the Shelley bottom could still work for you, because my figure is different. I'm an hourglass and most of my "curve" is in my hips, so if a suit doesn't hit me in the right spot it grabs even if it's the right size. You might find that the Shelley bottom covers what you want to cover and visually creates a waist for you. It's worth giving it a try before final sale starts again.
ReplyDeleteAlso, the skirt bottom hits lower than the Shelley, so the skirt could not be used as a cover-up over the bottom.
Items keep getting canceled from my orders and put on back-order. Tried to work with customer service and they won't extend any courtesies and/or attempt a store search for my items. So sad, what happened to customer service?

ReplyDeletelunarary, I think that's a state issue, depending on which state you're in you might be taxed for shipping. Apparently California does it. I'm in Illinois, they don't do it here, or at least not on any of my orders.
ReplyDeletei have to say, i sent a complaint email to their general email account and i received a personal phone call, email back, and letter in the mail apologizing for the mistake. and a gift card, to boot. i recommend letting them know whenever you have an issue. superior customer service is the only thing i've ever encountered with j. crew.

ReplyDeleteI popped in to a B&M on Wednesday to see if they had a white featherweight cotton cardigan in my size. They were $49.50 online, but the store was selling them for $45. I asked a SA if the additional 30% off still applied, and she said yes so I grabbed one in black too.
ReplyDeleteWhen I got up to the register, the cashier told me it would be $90. I pointed out that they were on sale, and he said the store was running a promotion, not a sale. So then I said that the website had it on sale and asked him to honor that (even at the higher website price), but he said sale items always end in .99 so the fact that it ended in .50 meant that it was a promotion on the website too. It was in the sale section on the website so that makes no sense to me, but I was sick of arguing, and he clearly wasn't going to listen so I told him to take out the black and just bought the white one.
I kept thinking about how little sense it made it on my walk to meet some friends so I called customer service. Luckily, they agreed with me and credited the difference back to my account. I mentioned that I would have bought the black one too, trying to hint that I wanted him to offer free shipping, but he didn't bite (and I didn't have time to go back). Oh, well. At least I got my money back.
