J.Crew's Summer Sale {when's the additional percent off?}

J.Crew had another very nice (& large) update to their Summer Sale today (click here). For the past week, there have been great updates. :)

But like many of you, I am wondering when the next additional percent off Sale will be. Doesn't it feel like there will be another sale related promotion happening soon? Even the brick & mortar (B&M) stores have a lot of sale merchandise on the shelves and racks. So a percent off sale makes sense.

Honestly, I did pick up three things in the past week or so because I was worried about inventory. But that's it. I plan to hold off on anything else for now. I just know the minute I buy something else, J.Crew will run a percent off promo the very next day. ;)

Did you check out the Summer Sale section today? Were you able to snag any amazing deals? When do you think the next additional percent off Sale will be? If so, please share! :)

  1. I did the exact same thing since the sale prices were low enough for me and I had free shipping.

OT - I got an email this morning from JC saying that I'm close to earning a rewards card. I don't remember getting one of those before.

  2. I've been on a mission to get the Wylder boots in size 6.5. I had them in size 7 but they felt too big, so I sent them back. I think I even bought them with a 30% off promo. Since then I've never seen them again ... until this morning. They're back in size 7. I decided to repurchase them and give them a try again. Of course this time I'm buying them without a promo, so if I decide to keep them I'm going to have to kick myself repeatedly for not keeping the original pair. But I just need to find out again if indeed the 7's are too big, because in my Wylder mania I now have doubt. There had better not be a 30% promo starting tonight!

  3. I think the next % off will be tied to 4th of July, but it will switch over to final sale.

  4. I've been wondering this as well, but my guess is they're consciously cutting back on promos. I still won't order without additional % off to at least offset the shipping ripoff.

Overall, I don't see anything I'm dying for. Ah well.

  5. If they made the min for free shipping less. Even say...$50 or $75, I would purchase without an extra % promo. But since they do not, I only buy when they have the code. There's enough cute stuff at other online retailers that I simply look elsewhere.

I imagine it may be the same for many other JCrew fans.

  6. As much as I like extra percent, it usually comes with the dreaded "final sale" notice too

  7. Aren't they private now? Maybe this is Dear "I hate markdowns" Leader's new strategy.

  8. The retail store has some great prices right now. Some prices are as low as I would expect from a percent off sale. That being said there weren't a lot of items that I was really interested in.

I hate final sale and even with a percent of I'm not willing to bite but have been purchasing quite a bit with the free shipping promos on items I feel are priced well. I'm hoping final sale stays away!

  9. @Elaine - I agree - I think they are trying to retrain us to shop without promos. I also predict Final Sale soon :(

The past two or three weeks I have rarely looked at the sale section, even with the huge updates. Just not seeing anything new or that I need (at least at the current prices :))

  10. silver_lining, that is exactly what I was thinking. From his recent comments I expect Mickey will work to find a better balance wrt inventory and avoid markdowns as we all remember he has said that he wants to sell at full price. Makes sense, what retailer wants to cut margins?

I would much rather have a 20% off my entire order and free shipping than a % off the sale. Nothing in the sale section that appeals to me. If I didn't have recent quality issues I probably would be buying a couple of items at full price but I've had my fill of FP crewlade for the moment. Not worth the current asking price thankyouverymuch.

  11. I have no complaints. I am so happy it is just summer sale.

I think the sale prices are great and picked up a couple of items b/c I can return them if need.

I won't buy final sale anymore. I totally held out last time and continue to plan on not buying final sale.

Very happy with good updates and items being returnable.

  12. Agree with many here: I think we will see less of the % off. I'm not too sad about it as it has so often been attached to final sale, and the extra % always makes me drink the crewlade and buy stuff I just shouldn't be.
I did some shopping last week, all on sale: the conference linen, the perfect fit tees with the snaps on the sleeves and the striped version as well. I've stopped looking!

  13. Thanks, xoxo - I think without shareholder pressure some of the stuff may hang out in the sale section a bit longer (or take longer to go to sale in the first place). Historically, I've waited for a % off to purchase because IMO the quality didn't reflect even the sale price. I do hope that they'll consider a return to their quality of years past, but given the "new normal" (read: cheap crap) in retail I'm not holding my breath.

  14. They are going to do an "extra 30%" either when I'm in the air tomorrow night for a red-eye flight, OR right after I've already hit "submit" because I just. can't. wait. any. longer.

  15. I thought final sale wouldn't kick in again until end of summer. However, now that JC is private, we'll probably see some changes. Maybe there will be no more final sale. We can dream, right?

OT -- Need help --> My RSS feed is corrupted in some way. My last post is *not* one on Old Navy. I've been posting pretty much daily, as I usually do. If you follow, maybe re-subscribe to receive the updates? If anyone is had a similar issue & solved it, please let me know the fix. gigiofca@gmail

  16. The dreaded Final Sale came back on June 30th last year.

  17. EKB93C discount code totally works (purchase on 6/14/11), and I found this on your blog, it was not on RetailMeNot! Thanks!

  18. I haven't checked the sale section yet and also wonder when the next % off will be. I agree with xoxo...I'd rather get a 20% off entire order + fs than final sale with extra % off.
Anyhow, knowing that stores have lower sale prices I'm not tempted one bit to order from online w/o extra % off.

  19. I have a few things that I'd like to purchase, but there is no way I am hitting the submit button without a % off. Several times, I've hit the submit button, the next day, there is a % off. And when I call the SA to see if they will apply the % off, they never do. I've never had luck doing so like the other JCAs have! =(

  21. I agree with the others that they are trying to go back to their original markdown schedule and stop offering promos so frequently, and honestly I'm not opposed to it. Offering promos so frequently causes me to have to stalk the web site not only just daily but at least twice per day! Once at midnight EDT and the other in the early hours of the morning, and honestly I'm all bleary eyed from getting 4 hours of sleep for so many nights. I paid an obnoxious $249 for the Wylders today and I really wanted to wait for a % off promo, and if one is offered tomorrow I'm going to be pissed but they might have been gone by then and I didn't want to take a chance.

  22. Got the email today saying I am "close" to the next rewards level with a free shipping code ... I've never gotten one of these before with free shipping. So of course I looked again at the sale update, but there's nothing I'm dying for that I don't have two of already. As others have noted, the B&M markdowns have been very good and I have scored a few summery "impulse" items (flip flops, straw bag) that I'd never pay full price for.

  23. HI Heather,
DO you call the main number, the 1-800...customer service number? This is the number I call. I tell them this "I just ordered a sale item and now see there is an extra promo on this item. I would like the difference to be credited to my account please." I might use I appreciate or please credit my account.... Don't ask "Can I get a price adjustment?" Take the stance that you want it and should get it. Hopefully this will help.

  24. The SA said she thought extra percent off would come around July 4th but I also imagine that means final sale. I have been attempting to try on every single thing I MIGHT be interested in so that if this is the case I can order with confidence.

  25. I remember there being final sale most of the summer last year and into September. I also have been ordering just in case I might want it on final sale, but making the returns is really starting to wear on me. :(

  26. Shekster: I've actually said what you suggested that I DON'T say...! Maybe that is where the problem lies. Next time (hopefully there isn't!), I'll definitely try wording it differently. Thanks for your advice!!

  27. tamara.chicago, were you shopping J.Crew when they upgraded the website in 2008? It was pretty common to see comments on here saying, "site is down". Tons of issues and when there was an extra % off the sale it would usually crash within hours. It's actually been pretty good the last while, must be time for another upgrade. ;^)

  28. xoxo, I didn't know it was that bad! I'd seen old posts mentioning problems but didn't know that outages were common occurrences. I guess I was a casual J Crew shopper then, not the stalker I am now. :) Last night the site wasn't fully usable for at least an hour 11-midnight CDT, I gave up after that. I didn't go on this morning until 7am CDT (I'm sleeping in more as I lose hope of finding my fall/winter popbacks) and everything was OK again.

  29. I do want to pay one compliment about the sale section and old items in it...... this was how I (re)scored the Wylders. Where else would I find an item that has been sold out for 2 or 3 months? I've also seen that cute Petit Four cardigan and other items that were long gone. I appreciate having the chance to buy them, some merchants ship off their unsold items far too quickly.

How do things end up at the distribution centers for those stores or the warehouse sales? Are they items that were flagged as defective in some way, even if the defect is very minor? For example, I've seen Emelline heels pop back, but I've also seen them on eBay being auctioned by resellers who shop the distribution centers, and I saw a pair in the Sample Sale photo. If this has been discussed elsewhere let me know and I'll hunt for it.
