"Thanks!" to Lauren who shared a J.Crew sighting in an unlikely place: Over at the Gap!
Gap has a new Summer Look Book (click here), where it looks like they incorporated not only J.Crew's Timex Military Watch (Item 10884; $150.00) with the Solid watch strap (Item 19474; $20.00) in Bronzed Beige, but also their Marissa Crystal Cuff Bracelets (Item 40978; $29.50, now $14.99) in Golden Topaz. In fact, even the model featured use to be in J.Crew's catalog and website.
I have seen J.Crew items being used for other retailers, but not direct competitors like the Gap. For example, every once in awhile I will see a J.Crew item or two in a Pottery Barn catalog. Although, I honestly cannot blame the Gap for wanting to be more like J.Crew. ;)
Did you catch the J.Crew items over at the Gap? Have you spotted any other J.Crew items at other places?
Ha! I maybe those items were the "model's own," then. Either way, I just love the model featured! She's also featured in the Lands' End Canvas catalog and website, and I think she's just darling!

ReplyDeleteIA egyptomaniac. I bet these were Cintia's watch and bracelets and the stylist for the shoot wasn't careful to ask where they came from. Quite embarrassing, especially because the Gap isn't doing too well. I used to really like their clothes (especially around the time Sarah Jessica Parker was modeling for them) but they're really suffering from a brand identity crisis. They're trying to do a lot (work wear, denim, active, lounge, casual) but they're not doing any of it particularly well. They've upped their prices all over the place but design, color, and construction are all poor. The sizing is all over the place and the vanity sizing outsizes smaller women. If they're smart, they'll revamp their fit and quality to stay competitive.
ReplyDeleteAh I remember those years when SJP modeled for them - those were a few bright, shining years of excellent fashion among a vast expanse of dullness. The reason for this being that Pina Ferlisi, the woman who launched Marc by March Jacobs, was their creative director for a few short-lived years. I loved their offerings (and fashion in general) from Fall/Winter 2004. It was when the cardigan first started to appear worn in retro 50's styling in recent years. Plus velvet blazers, fuzzy sweaters with rhinestone buttons, and big, sparkly brooches. The color palette was mint green, light pink, and ivory. Banana Republic had a covetable gold brocade embroidery skirt. After Pina Ferlisi left in 2006 or so, I agree that it seems Gap had an identity crisis.

ReplyDeleteI seldom go into the Gap but found myself there last weekend and tried their Slim Crop pants in black. IMO, they are vastly superior to JC's Cafe Capri (at least on me) -- better stretch, better fabric, better overall fit. The Cafe Capris have never been quite right for me -- they've become baggy and shapeless after only a couple of wearings.
