J.Crew Updates Website with New Arrivals!

"Thanks!" to many of you, including ajr (in this post), who let us know that J.Crew had a mini-update to its website today (click here to view online).

There are some new arrivals for men (click here) & women (click here). {wahoo!} It looks like Crewcuts (click here) has been updated, but not the J.Crew Collection (click here). The latest July catalog (click here to view) is the same from last time too.

After a quick look, I am not seeing anything I am head-over-heels for. Maybe it's because I am crushing on the Fall Collection and need to save my pennies for then (hello Ethel Trench and Edie Purse!)

"Thanks!" to Erika, who let us know that J.Crew is also offering free shipping on orders of $150+ with promo code SHIP150. This offer expires Sunday, July 3, 2011. Won't lie, this wasn't the amazing Fourth of July promotion I was hoping to see. ;)

What items are you most excited about and why? Which items are you surprised (or not surprised) to see? Which items did you hope would be included? Were you expecting a bigger roll-out today? Also, did you receive the latest catalog? :)

  1. But LOOK OUT, because FINAL SALE is back!!!!!

  2. I'm not sure it's new, but I love the knit military blazer.

  3. I don't see anything new that I'm interested in. The only items I'd like to get online right now are the Tippi Sweater, Eden Cardigan, and Edie Purse. I don't shop Final Sale, so other than possibly getting those three items, I will just wait for the fall rollout (which should start in August) before considering anymore purchases.

  4. Nothing for me. I did want the Edie sweater based on the online picture, but I saw it in person, and the weave is just too loose for me. I'd be snagging it in a hot minute (or my son would). After the recent 30% off mania, I'll be holding out for fall purchases.

  5. I noticed the selvedge chambray popover is back but at $98....wasn't it $78 before? I like the tippi sweater and that's about it :/

  6. I know I haven't been visiting the J. Crew site like I used to, but I honestly don't see anything new. I think I'm like Alexis though, I'm holding out for fall. I've already pre-ordered the leopard pumps!

  7. Ugh, Final Sale.

But I have to say ... it is refreshing to see the vibrant colors featured in the update. The new "looks" are actually outfits I can wear IRL.

  8. The only new item I'm curious about is the tuxedo shell and that's only because I continue to look and hope for a white knit top that isn't sheer! Chances are this one is, but I'll continue to hope until I see it. :) While I HATE final sale, it was nice to see that the lady lace popover got another (small) cut, so that one will be mine with the next 30% off. Enough JCA's have reviewed it that I'm confident of the size I need. The only new(er) fall items I'm interested in are the Tippi Sweater (love all those colors!), the jardin skirt and the Eden cardigan. Oh, and I want the classic ballet flats in poppy and african violet, but I'm waiting for a promo or markdown.

  9. I really didn't see anything new other than the Crespi logo tee and I have enough tees.

  10. Like I mentioned before I don't buy final sale unless I feel like it is a super sale deal and I am not feeling it. Give me 40% off and then we are talking!

  11. After my comment I did end up buying the Maddie pant in orange!!!!! I'm so excited about it. The PS said it runs tts, can anyone comment? I had a 20% off coupon I had been holding on to and there was only one left in my size so I went for it!

  12. i just spotted a Matinee Trench, size 2, on eBay for BIN of $99. item # 120743472537. not my auction nor that of anyone i know, i just recall a few people here saying they liked the coat.

i've also spied several auctions for the navy & white Lobster skirt in varying sizes, so if you're seeking it, now may be a good time to took. :)

  13. Like everyone else, I don't see much new and am waiting for fall. I've had to return most of my recent online purchases due to problems with quality or inaccurate depiction, but I keep hoping that one of these days I'll click on the site and see the "old" JC back. I'm not saying that I'm looking for Bellas, Fionas, etc., but something in the tradition of that style and quality.

Nordstrom had some amazing boot deals on Anniversary pre-sale so I think those might be my purchases for the month. I'd like a couple of the Tippi sweaters but I think that I can wait on those.

Nice to see the bright colors on the front page!

  14. I like the cardigan with the pockets but it's clear from the model photo that the pockets are too heavy for that lightweight pima-blend knit and they're dragging the sweater down. Too bad. The buttons are too big, too. Why do they do that? The Twinkle merino cardigan was the same way, big big buttons. Oh J Crew designers, please stop with the cutesy nonsense and just make nice clothes, OK? I have money and I'm willing to spend it, but I see nothing I want to buy.

  15. Off topic, I just got my marled camel Jenna's cardigan and it has a new kind of tag on it, not the all-white fat rectangle but a long slim grey tag. Very classy. :)

  16. Oh I'm putting up a review of the Ethel trench tomorrow, I'm prancing about in it just now.

  17. Interesting, the red ikat tie belt is now a full-size scarf?

Happy to see color, but just not feeling anything. I almost feel bad saying it after reading that article Alexis shared with us yesterday. Still riding out the cycle of fashion misses, I see (as opposed to hits ;)

Maybe this rollout is for my peeps up north who haven't bought much summer stuff yet? :P

    ReplyDelete
  18. I have been so disappointed with JC, but their Summer offerings have been the worst worst worst! No cute tees, or casual summer tops, no skirts long enough for either work or play. I'm wearing my Lobster Skirt today from years gone by....I went into the B&M last week and not one thing appealed to me. I did not mean this too be negative....just simply showing disappointment :( The only skirt that has peaked my interest is the Jardin skirt which I ordered but its now waitlisted to the end of Aug I'll be lucky to even wear it this season!!

  19. Anyone happen to actually try on the Silk and cotton rib-stitch tunic yet? Does it actually need a tank dress underneath like it states online? I spotted this in my store on display before they actually got in the full shipment and fell in love with it on the mannequin. Looks like a normal dress, not very see through to me..but of course, couldn’t try it on yet.

This has potential to look really awful on me..clinging to all the wrong places..haha.But something about it make me happy and cozy.

  20. Hey, I don't know if anyone else has noticed or mentioned this yet, but Gilt has some J.Crew luggage in its sale today! It's apparently from the WANT line, a collection of organic luggage for men.

  21. Double ugh ... Final Sale AND my ONE true need at this point -- the Jardin Skirt -- is also backordered til August.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I literally don't see one new item. Or maybe they all just blend together... did manage to snag the casbah dress this morning. How is that one running? I ordered a 4, praying it won't be too small in the chest...

    ReplyDelete
  23. I ordered the Summer Jacket in Crisp Linen on a pop-back, but not sure about the sizing of this one. I wear a 2 in coats (Lady Day specifically) and Perfect Shirts fit me in either 0 or 2, but I'm consistently a 0 in dresses and camis. I ordered the blazer in a 2 - any thoughts? Wondering if I should have waited for a pop-back in a 0. TIA!

  24. How are people feeling about the cotton Nouvelle jacket? I found a few reviews stating it ran long in the torso. I'm looking for a khaki-type jacket for work, but not too stuffy / formal. I returned the Canvas schoolboy because the fabric wasn't what I thought it would be. I tried on the Herringbone jacket with the metallic threads in it and was hoping to catch it on extra 30, but people's comments on the scratchiness of it have scared me away.

So I'm looking at the Nouvelle in ?Beechwood ... any thoughts/insight?

    ReplyDelete
  25. Elaine,

I have the nouvelle in the super 120s, and it is longer than a typical J.Crew jacket. I am tall so I didn't even realize it was supposed to be longer til I looked up the item number and realized what I bought (got it at the clearance store). So it isn't a dramatic difference.

I think it is definitely pretty formal and stuffy... I mean, to me it is just a typical two button blazer. I think it fits really well, nice and slim, and flattering... and I think in the cotton beechwood color, it'd be less formal looking than the wool. If you can wear it with cute tops underneath, jewelry, etc. I think it could work. But otherwise it just looks pretty normal and blah. All in the styling!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Elaine, I have a suit with the Nouvelle Jacket in the Super 120s, agree it's on the long side and the proportion looks a bit "off" on me if I don't wear heels (I'm 5'5"). I also have a 2-button Gabardine jacket in the Beechwood color from 09.

Very "classic," investment-type pieces if that's what you're after. I keep them modern-looking with more casual, unexpected tops and pushing up or rolling the sleeves.

  27. Caitlin, I reviewed the linen jacket on the last review thread but you are probably OK with size 2. The fit is slimmer in the waist and narrower in shoulder but with the same or more room in the chest. It is much longer than schoolboy. I love it!

  28. i actually am more excited about the fall stuff we've gotten a sneak peek at. but i did just bite the bullet and order the Paradisa dress... it's backordered until end of august so we'll see if i still want it by the time it actually arrives... i'll probably be buying all those fall clothes by then.

    ReplyDelete
  29. nothing there i'm excited about except for maybe the billie boots...saving my dollars for hopefully some awesome fall offerings.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I bought the Nouvelle in super 120's but sent it back because I am short and it was a bit too long for my stature. I called on the measurements and I believe at the time it was 24 inches down the back vs the 2 button which was 21.

  31. OT: I remember someone mentioning a while back that they get padding sewn into the insides of some of their unlined jcrew swimsuits. I'd like to do that with the Ruched Femme tank I just got. Where does one find padding like that? Can you just find them at any random fabric store? Any help would be appreciated :)

    ReplyDelete
  32. Ruffles: the Jardin skirt was backordered on the day it appeared on the website! Isn't that bizarre? One would think they'd delay its arrival on the website in that case...

    ReplyDelete
  33. AppGal: I talked about swimsuit padding in this post last May. :)

  34. Looked at the Billie mid-heel boots with interest. Lost interest in this $325 gem upon reading "man-made soles."

    ReplyDelete
  35. Wellfedfred, the Billie mid-heel boots are really similar to the Tenley boots that J.Crew offered in 2007 I believe. Vachetta leather, soft leather lining and leather sole with rubber overlay. Retail price was $268. The Tenley had a 3" heel but they were sturdy and really well-made. They also have a size zip that gives them a closer fit, which is helpful with the higher heel.

I have a pair of Tenleys and will try to put a review up on my blog since they still pop up on ebay from time-to-time, usually for a great price.

    ReplyDelete
  36. wellfedfred-I did the same thing.

  37. Bought the cashmere isabel sweatshirt in a few colors during to 30% off. Runs REALLy big but I love oversized so small worked. The kelly green, called pond green was not the same soft quality as the other colors...
    anyone else buy this sweater!?!
    And..
who would swim in a pond that was THAT shade of green!'
    Happily it wasn't final sale!

    ReplyDelete
  38. AppGal, thanks for letting me know about the Jardin Skirt, at least I don't feel too stupid for waiting til now to order it.

By August when it finally rolls in to the warehouse, I may be more interested in wool and tweed!

    ReplyDelete
  39. I know others have commented already and I am a little slow on the uptake but ... WTH with all the resin jewelry now? What are they thinking?

Is this the new definition of "affordable luxury" because you can probably find that stuff at The Dollar Tree.

    ReplyDelete
  40. re: the Tenley boots from 2007. I thought they had a side zip but I just checked and they are also slip-on, just like the Billie boots. They are so very similar and I'm really not surprised that J.Crew is rehashing a look from year's past.

  41. I'm following up on my post.I tried on the Silk and cotton rib-stitch tunic tonight and it was a no go for me. So sad :(

This really is like a dress, not a tunic, imo. It hugged me in all the wrong places. I had to size down to a XS, but still didn't work. If I was taller and had more of a straight body, it would probably look better. Really liked the concept and it felt great on.

It does mention online about wearng a tank dress underneath which would maybe solve the clinging issues, but this would be a lot of fabric for me to handle in this heat..and maybe too bulky on too.

  42. Off topic, but since some of you mentioned ebay finds... I've been looking for the Candy Wrap Mini from last spring/summer in Size 8. Anyone have one of these that you're willing to part with?

    ReplyDelete
  43. today i went to the b&m and told them that the summerlong sweater was on sale online, and they honored the online price + 30% off + 15% student discount! my experience so far has been that they won't honor the sale price, so i was really excited and thought i'd share in case anyone wants to save some on shipping :)

  44. @MegCrew: I would say the Maddie's run pretty TTS to slightly big. I'm usually in between sizes, but for me, with a higher waist, I always go with the smaller of those sizes because my waist is smaller than my hips/rear end. I LOVE the Maddie's, though. I just bought the deep charcoal; I have the orange and natural already :)

    ReplyDelete
  45. Elaine, the red ikat scarf was a new addition with the last new set of items (not this week), while the red ikat belt has been around a little longer. My b&m also had a red ikat headband/headscarf.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Laurak: thanks for your feed back! Good to hear they should fit since they were my only final sale purchase. The orange is going to be bright but I'm just going to have to be brave and rock it....

I think you raved about these during the 30% off sale? So I have you to blame for reminding me that they were on my wish list! ; )

    ReplyDelete
  47. Looks like the silk Blythe was added today? I have been waiting for this one to go on sale for awhile....

I went to the outlet yesterday and half of the store was on clearance with 40% off sale price. I took 20% on top of that.....

They also had good prices on everything else and I stocked up on perfect shirts for $19.00. You can't go wrong with those.

    ReplyDelete
  48. OK, that did it, xoxo, now I have to hunt for those boots!

    ReplyDelete
  49. If JC knows its mistakes from last summer (didn't order enough of the popular stuff, had too much of the unpopular), why are the same mistakes happening again with the jardin skirt back-ordered til August and the Paradisa back-ordered or sold out?? It doesn't make sense. Who wants to wear these summer items only for a few weeks at best? I'm not in retail but it feels like some of the people at JC aren't either!!

    ReplyDelete
  50. My theory on the Jardin skirt is that they knew they missed the mark on the midi trend too late and quickly devised a midi to offer. It was waistlisted the minute it hit the site.

And I may be walking on egg shells here but I have a hunch it may not be worth the full price but because it is the only midi offered it has received a lot of attention.

I was just in anthro and saw a slew of adorable dresses and skirts and I realized that I am limiting myself by only shopping Jcrew now days.

I am hoping Fall wows me. I don't think I can expect a retailer to always hit the mark by I'm sure ready to see what I want out of Jcrew.
