J.Crew is reminding customers that several new items are making it to their Summer Sale (click here to shop online). "Thanks!" to Stene (in this post) who shared some new-to-sale items:
- Casbah Dress (Item 43316; $198.00, now $129.99)
- Pilar Printed Platform Heels (Item 44631; $268.00, now $179.99)
But the question on everyone's mind is, "When is the next percent off sale?" (refer to the "J.Crew's Summer Sale {when's the additional percent off?}" post). The guessing game still continues...
Will you be checking out the Sale section? Are there any items you are hoping to see or to get?
OT - have a madewell code for 20%+free shipping on your FIRST order...email me if you want it.

What is going on here? Those Pilar heels just came out a few weeks ago, didn't they? And now the price has dropped more than 30%? Drexler had spoken about customers not wanting to pay full price or waiting for sales, and the recent report mentioned that price cuts were in small part responsible for their loss, so I'm wondering why such new items are marked down so quickly. And then at the same time there are items that have been sitting in the sale section for months with no price reductions. I guess they know better than I do, but it does seem crazy to me.
ReplyDeleteI like the style of the Pilars but I dislike the fabric. I don't like the print and it's very limiting, what can you wear with it? I think suede version looks much better but the suede colors are so dull. Is anyone wearing black or olive suede in the summer?

ReplyDeleteWe know that Drexler wishes to sell his goods more at "full" prices, but he can not defeat the market. If the shoes are not selling, he has to cut the price. A few weeks is long enough to know if something sells or not. Just a thought.
ReplyDeleteThey need to knock the prices way down on the items that have been sitting in the sale section forever now, especially if they are adding new styles.
ReplyDeleteCode Taken :)
ReplyDeleteNothing I really want without an additional % off and with my luck, if I were to place an order today, there would be a promo tomorrow morning! So, I am going to hold off...for now :)
ReplyDeleteNothing in the sale section that I'd want to get without additional %off to offset the lower sale prices at the B&M.
ReplyDeleteWhat these quick markdowns do is force customers, at least those who don't have unlimited $$ to spend, to wait for markdowns because we know we don't have to wait long. I only buy full-priced items now if they are 1) basic items that will last for more than one season and 2) I'm reasonably certain that my size or desired color will never make it to the sale section. My latest example is the black Jenna's cardigan.
ReplyDeleteI see they finally marked down the old Gibson heels that have been in the sale section forever at $199. When I bought mine I used a 30% off promo. All that's left now are sizes 10 and 11, and they've been there for a couple of months. The price was finally reduced to $129, still too high in my opinion considering the age and that they are too winter-y for this time of year.
J. Crew has a very serious marketing problem to me. Over the past month, I can look at my inbox and see they've directed my attention to their sale section quite a bit and even though I've visited almost every e-mail, I never buy anything! Things are still a little too expensive for what I'd be willing to pay for the current quality of most items. And arguably, there is less that catches my eye at J. Crew these days but there are still gems. I just won't throw away money on items I'll love but won't last. Also, the fit is off and things run big so smaller sizes go faster because more women need them.
ReplyDeleteThe marketing problem comes into play with this whole "RUSH TO OUR SALE SECTION BECAUSE THINGS ARE SELLING OUT." J. Crew, we are not stupid. Items languish in the sale area for WEEKS at the same price. And then they make shopping fearful because the threat of final sale is always near. J. Crew still has my attention but they certainly haven't received much of my money lately. I'm only one customer but I can't help but think others are experiencing the same annoyance that's preventing them from buying as much as they used to or buying at all.
Maybe that's why Drexler's comments on the last financial quarter didn't impress me. Aficionadas and Aficionados have been writing up the same comments for months now and it takes a bad quarter for them to listen? Your market research is free courtesy of Alexis and the community yet no one is listening! GAH.
(Sorry for the length. Perhaps this was a vent.)
The Maddies in Natural Linen (42471) went down to $99.99. I have them in the Gauguin Orange and absolutely love them, so I bit on these. Although I do feel like an extra % off is right around the corner.
ReplyDeleteI would like to see more rewards-based promos and not rewards just for cardholders but rewards for people who buy a lot. (And I want to make clear that I'm OK with not receiving a promo offer if I haven't bought much.)
ReplyDeleteI kind of wish I could return to my old way of shopping on jcrew.com, but I know too much now. I used to be an occasional shopper, I bought some things full priced but most on sale. If I saw an item was sold out in my size/color in the sale section I wouldn't check back again. I didn't wait for %-off promos either, maybe because there were fewer of them?
Hi nomoneyfun - you are so right on! That chalet turtleneck sweater has been languishing in the sale section forever. Every time I see it, I want to scream. It should be $9.99 at this point!
ReplyDeleteOT - just back from my b&m. I didn't notice any new sale items, but I'm sure there were some. One thing, the leslie lace shell is promo'd online, but still full price in stores.
ReplyDeleteI tried on the new ikat perfect shirt (TTS) and LOVE it! It's so silky and light and the violet is SO pretty! It came home with me. The indira ikat dress (size down) is not good on me. I wanted to love it, but the shape is all wrong. The material is nice, so I hope it works for some. I like the whisper linen stripe tank (size down), but I think it's way over-priced. I hope it sticks around until it hits around $20 and then I'll bring it home. The finespun embroidered henley (size down) is nice, but beware that there are gaps all along the front behind the buttons. I would need a tank or cami if I want to wear it to school. :) I bought the maritime dress (size down) in navy and I like/love it (it's very flattering, surprisingly), but I'm not sure about the sleeves. It's way too hot here to think about it during the summer, but it would probably be perfect for our warm spring and fall. I LOVE the new chili pepper color - I want either the scarf (don't see online) or the patent belt (or maybe both!). I hope to see more of this color as we get closer to fall as it looks like a true red.
Hi math teacher:
ReplyDeleteI saw a new dress online yesterday, it is the Souvenir, and it is shown in black but comes in the chili pepper color too. That color is lovely but does not work with my skin tone. Of course, it looks to be too short, AGAIN! Maybe you would like it. :)
Shekster, I saw it in the new catalog and think it's cute, but I'm guessing that it either won't work for my shape or it's too short. Most dresses with elastic right at the waist tend to not work on me. If I could try it on, I would, because I love the print and chili pepper color! :)
ReplyDeleteHas anyone tried the Jemaa midheel sandals? I am about the order them but lately all of J.Crew's shoes have been too tight in my normal size, and sizing up isn't an option since there is no 10.5.
ReplyDeleteI'd appreciate any reviews! Thanks!
math teacher,
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about the elastic. I just tried the new Ikat dress and it is going back tomorrow. It runs big, especially in the chest, but the elastic just did not fit right on my waist. It was a very tight, constricting elastic band. Maybe it is my height. I refuse to admit it might be the size of my belly. :) But the biggest disappointment was the length of the dress. In the size 6 it was only 19 inches from the elastic to the end of the dress which on me came to about midthigh. UGH! I am so tired of the dresses being too short. My sister says I am just too tall. Can't argue with that. The pattern was lovely and the silk was light weight but very nice. I think if you are bigger on top and have a smaller waist this might be the one for you.
Shekster, I'm 5'4" and I thought the ikat dress was too short for me as well. I don't mind right above the knee, but it seems like many of their dresses are just too short. :( I am larger on top, but it still didn't work for my shape. I would have rather had a dress than a button-up, but the button-up was lovely and light, plus it fit! :D

ReplyDeleteLOL, disappearing fast is right, only it's J.Crew making them vanish from the website. I commented on the fact that items are once again gone from the website with the addition of new arrivals in this post. Sorry, to sound like a broken record on this subject, but I just find it ridiculous and think J.Crew really needs to address this problem.
ReplyDeleteLolli Pant in size 8 online right now.
