JCA "Help Style Me!" Weekly Post

This is the weekly "Help Style Me!" post, where we can share items we are having trouble putting outfits together with. Elaine (in this post) says it best, "You know, that thing you bought because you love it and you keep pulling it out and then putting it away without wearing it?"

Please share your J.Crew item (either that you own or are thinking about getting) that you would love help creating an outfit with.

Also, please help out by offering your styling advice. Feel free to include links to your blog (where you incorporated that piece) or to Polyvore (where you showcased an outfit with that piece). Thanks in advance! :)

  4. Sorry for the OT, I am trying to find out if the Oxford ballet flats are TTS or if they tend to be narrow on the toes. I wear a 9 and I have a slightly large foot.
    Thanks!

  5. Cris, I wear a size a 9, but I took a 9.5 in the Oxford ballet flats. HTH!

  6. Cris, I also sized up 1/2 size in the Oxford ballets, on recommendation from my PS. They fit but the shoes are on the narrow side IMO. I have narrow feet and there isn't any extra room. I think that's fairly normal for J.Crew shoes though.

  7. Thank you XOXO. So, as I do not have very narrow feet, would you recommend a full size larger?

  8. The Cece suede ballet flats are super cute, but is a suede flat appropriate for summer? Please help, thanks!

  10. Hi rynetta PhD,

It seems that wearing suede shoes is a current "trend." I have been seeing suede shoes this summer all over the place. I think it is a matter of personal choice at the moment.

  11. Cris, I don't know whether a 1/2 size or a full size up would be best for you. I recommend you email erica@jcrew.com and get the advice of an online personal shopper to ensure you order the perfect size.

  12. Apologies for being partly OT, but can anyone help me ID this jacket? I'm trying to find some reviews on the fit before I buy since 2p is sometimes too tight for me in the shoulders and bust. Thank you! :)

And of course style advice is appreciated! I am not creative enough to wear my J Crew jackets with anything besides jeans.

  14. Rosie, I think it's the Aubrey jacket in heather bright berry, product #99478. It's apparently from 2009.

  16. Hi! I hope someone can help - I recently bought the glitter flats (and I adore them! They are very cute and comfortable!) and I have trouble pairing outfits with them. I've only worn them with a white T and blue cropped jeans. I've been avoiding bold colors so that my shoes can take center stage. But I can only wear "the white T and jeans" so many times with these flats. Any advice? Thanks so much in advance! =)

  17. Heather: The Lula Glitter Ballet Flats look really cute worn with a tee in the heather graphite color and white shorts, capris, skirt or jeans. Another outfit is the short-sleeve selvedge chambray shirt worn with the boyfriend chino shorts in utility green, or a pair of the surplus pants in utility green. (These color combinations could be reversed...utility green shirt with denim, a white tee with grey pants.)

A shirt with subtle grey stripes like the Madewell Slim Stripe Shirt worn with a pair of jeans looks really nice. You could also try them with a sundress in a solid color...black, white, or blue, possibly even poppy. If you go for a patterned shirt such as the striped one I mentioned, keep the color muted and understated.

I do think it's possible to wear color with them such as poppy or blue, just pair it with a neutral colored pant, short, or skirt. Just remember to always keep your accessories minimal. HTH!

  18. The chambray shirt with white pants, shorts, etc. works, too. :)

  19. Fabulous Florida Mommy:

That is so helpful! Thank you! I was in quite a "rut" with these shoes. Your ideas are great! I don't have any pants/short in utility green, but I may have to invest in a pair. I think that utility green would look quite nice with the shoes! Again, thank you so much for your advice. Much appreciated. BTW, I checked out your blog. It's lovely! =)

  20. Heather: You are very welcome! The shoes are just so adorable in person...congratulations on getting them! Unfortunately I had to return mine for a smaller size which is now waitlisted (again). Btw, I forgot to mention that the darker charcoal grey color will work with them, as well.

Thanks for stopping by my blog! I hope you'll visit again. Have a great weekend! :)

  21. Fabulous Florida Mommy: When I first saw the shoes online, I thought they were cute, but I wasn't wowed by them. But I thought, what the hec, I'll give it a try, and I am so glad that I did! Once I put them on, I fell in love!

I hope you get your next pair soon! I would love to see them on your blog (which I will definitely visit again!)

Have a wonderful weekend as well! =)

  22. Gigi, while ID'ing the Aubrey jacket I came across one of your blog entries (with lots of great pictures, as usual), and you had written this:

My neighbors surely must think I am running some type of 'operation' out of my house. UPS is often stopping off to deliver a package. And today the driver showed up juuust as I opened the trunk of my car. He gave me the box, I put it in the car and drove off. Must've looked odd indeed. The timing was too perfect.

    Hilarious! :)

  23. Heather: I mentioned before that a grey striped shirt would look cute with the Lula Glitter Ballet flats. I stopped in to the Factory store last evening (it's just around the corner from the retail store) to see if they had the Factory stripe three-quarter sleeve shirt in *Sea Mist* in my size and found that they have one in grey stripe. After looking at the color code on the tag (OSH), I realized it must be the *Orchid Shadow* color that is also available online. I purchased it and wore it today...very flattering and great quality, too. I think it would work well with your glitter flats if you're considering giving that combination a try.The shirt fits true to size...I wear an XSmall in retail perfect shirts and an XSmall in the factory version. It is worth the $24.50 too, IMO. :)

  24. Fabulous Florida Mommy: I actually took your advice today and wore a similar shirt, from Gap, it's a button down with very thin gray stripes and wore it with my white matchstick jeans cuffed. It actually looked quite good with the Lula glitter flats! I took a look at the shirt that you were referencing, and my Gap shirt looks a lot like it, except mine is long sleeve. I rolled it up to my elbows, for a more casual look. Your polyvore set with the 3/4 shirt and the skirt is lovely! Thanks again for your wonderful advice. You are so nice! =)

  25. Thank you Heather, and I'm glad I could help. I think it's always nice to have at least 3 different options of wearing an item. That way you're sure to get more *use* out of your purchases. :)

Btw, I thought of one more idea for the flats that would be a relatively inexpensive way to create another look, and that is to add a scarf to the outfits with the plain tees. You could wear a scarf with the grey tones in it in a floral, stripe, paisley, or check print. :)
