J.Crew Email: FACTORY ONLINE IS OPEN: GREAT GIFTS, FREE SHIPPING + 25% OFF YOUR ORDER OF $150+!

"Thanks!" to many of you, including Marietta & Ketan, who shared the email from J.Crew this morning.

The weekly email once again announces that J.Crew Factory (click here to shop online) is open for business.

On a bright note, the email confirms what many of us found out: that the PRESENTS promotion is also applicable to Factory store items. :)

What are your thoughts on J.Crew's Factory new Holiday arrivals? Do you like some of the latest offerings?

  1. Not buying again. Annoyed. The leather Coddington leather pumps were on sale for $178 last week. Now back to $228. In store the suede were marked at $198 about a month ago. WTH? Isn't it all the same company and brand? It is frustrating when pricing is inconstant.

  2. Did anyone get the factory metallic beach cardi in gold? Like it? If so, did you see the original store version as well?

  3. @JulieStyles - I know, annoying! I had them in my cart because i was thinking of getting them with my 30% cardholder discount and now they are back full price! WTH! Hopefully they go back down in price before the dicount expires.

  4. I actually just received the factory metallic beach cardi in gold. Was pretty disappointed. It seemed VERY metallic-y (almost cheaply so) and kind of scratchy. I wanted to love it but didn't. It honestly kind of reminded me of something my grandmother would have worn in the 70's. I hope that this doesn't offend anyone who may love it, as we all have different taste and syle, but just want to give you my honest impression of it. Have to admit that other than a few tees and a skirt, I haven't been very impressed by the factory merchandise that I've ordered lately. Hope that changes!!

  5. Gigi - Sorry, forgot to say that I never saw the original store version...only read reviews so I can't compare. Wish I could offer more help!

  6. I'm pretty shopped out and will certainly not be shopping from the outlet online.

Yes, price jacking is not cool at all! Btw, I think the Coddington leather pumps runs rather narrow so I tried a half size up and it fit better. With the whole platform and the heel it was really high.

  7. jcrewphd, thanks for the sizing review on the Coddington leather pumps...that's good to know!

  8. Gigi, I just received the factory metallic beach cardi in gold and in my opinion it is lovely. I have the retail version in silver and actually think the factory version is LESS scratchy than the retail version. I put the cardigans side by side and cannot tell any difference in size or style.

  9. @gigiofca I agree with shopalot - I have retail silver and outlet gold (I think there is a song in there).
I commented on another thread you get viscose in retail but rayon in outlet - I guess you pay for the fancy scmancy name.
The % of rayon to metallic is 2% difference and RN number is the same(?). The outlet is less scratchy than retail. HTH

  10. OT, but does anyone know where I could find reviews of men's JC items? I'm trying to decide between the straight and slim fit cords for my husband for xmas. He likes them pretty straight but the pics of the straight fit look looser than what I think of as straight.

  11. Anyone have any thoughts on the Factory coats? I'm curious about the quality/warmth of the factory wool as I'm interested in the Carlin coat.

  12. To St Germain:

I buy my husband´s clothes at J Crew, and I can tell you the straight fit is roomier (not baggy) all over. I would pick the slim fit if your husband wants the "closer to the body" look. The 484 slim fit, on the other hand, is tighter, and in my opinion more trendy and for skinny/young guys. Hope this helps!

  13. Gigi, I've tried the retail metallic cardigan in both colors and think the silver one is more strachy than the gold one. I have not tried the factory version. Perhaps it's the color, i.e., the metallic thread, that makes them feel different rather than being retail or factory, since the fabrics (viscose and rayon) are so similar.

I'd be curious to compare two of the same color.

  14. Isn't the Carlin coat from last year? It might be just a carryover that didn't sell. The fit of last year's coats seemed to be a bit off. If I remember correctly the Peacoat & Carlin ran big.

  15. Lisa_Groves - Thanks for sharing your opinion. I kinda like grandma clothes & definitely like the 70s. It may be a winner for me.

shopalot & PTO Prep - I will be singing the song w/you as I own retail silver and (will soon own) outlet gold. I didn't see your comments & went ahead w/the trigger. I hope it works out as I don't want to deal w/returning.

Cleo - I agree that the thread color can be a factor in itchiness. Good observation./

  16. Gigi: the retail version of the Metallic beach cardigan has popped back on the site. The gold is only available in size Medium. Silver is available in xs and s if anyone else is interested.

  19. Gigi, I don't think you'll want to return the gold cardigan. I can't wait to wear mine over the retail "bugle bouquet tee" - item 32385 (dark olive green tee with matte gold bugle bead flowers). Was waiting for the price to go down on the tee. $22.49 was an acceptable price to me for a heavily beaded tee so I pulled the trigger on it. Should have listened to your advice about the shimmer sweatshirt, though. Bought the dark gray and you are so right, the flipping sequins are very noticeable on the dark color and it is driving me crazy. The fit is great as is the price I paid ($37.49) but I am going to think about it for a bit before I take the tags off.

  20. jcrewphd, I reviewed the Coddington pumps on my blog. Sizing up never worked for me.

Gigi, I got the metallic beach cardi in gold and it is much brighter than the online photo shows. I like it, and for the price I got it for, it is a keeper. I have the store version of the silver and other than the colour, obviously, the make looks identical.

  21. ccurran136:
I have returned items after 60 days (with tags on and original packaging) and they have sent me a gift card (as opposed to crediting my J.Crew credit card). I've done this probably 3 times total in the last year or so and it has not been a problem. They do send a confirmation e-mail that my return was received and since it was outside the return time frame, a gift card will be issued. So, should not be a problem.

  22. The old return policy was that after 60 days a gift card was issued rather than a refund. The new policy is that no online returns are accepted after 60 days. Of course jcrew is incredibly inconsistent so it's a crap shoot IMO.

  23. Well, the Factory Wool Carlin Coat in Blackberry came this week and was sent back this week. I was afraid that the quality of some of the Factory clothing was a little sketchy. The buttonholes on this coat weren't very well-stitched at all, and even though it is a good price, I just couldn't see paying money for something that isn't well-made.

I just did a set on polyvore (I'm KPWT at polyvore- also at my styleonline.wordpress.com blog) with all J. Crew including a Factory sweater. The only problem with Polyvore is that they show items that aren't available at the retailer anymore. This particular Factory sweater was popular and sold out. Oh well, it looked good with the set.

I love the J. Crew shoes I put with this set (the Crosby lace-up peep toes). Does anybody have them? I wonder how they fit . . .

  24. styleonline, thanks for the info on the Factory Carlin coat! How did you feel about the fabric? Is the wool similar to the regular Double cloth? Did it seem like it would be nice and warm?

  25. Thanks for the addtl help on the metallic cardi.

  26. Gigi I ordered the Beach cardigan after repeatedally missing it at the store, when it came I really didnt see any difference between the outlet and B/M, however there was a hole in the middle of the back where the yarn was joined. I sent it back and just re-ordered this weekend with the sale, hoping for better this time.

also got the camofleur tee, and the bronzed twig cashmere sweater

  27. Nothing for me, got enough stuff at the Net-A-Porter sale.

  28. Hi MDPA -

Per the wool on the Carlin Coat - hmmm . . . my sense is that it wasn't as high-quality as a typical J. Crew fabric. I have a few coats in the closet from years past and the weave on these is just finer and less apt to pill than the Carlin coat seemed.

I also realized that the cut is empire and I am getting SO tired of empire-style. Plus, the Blueberry just wasn't worth the money. Honestly, the quality was not J. Crew quality.

Hope that helps. I got it and mailed it back the next day, so my memory is not as clear as if I had it here.
