J.Crew Email: New arrivals & FREE SHIPPING (plus, 25% OFF sweaters ENDS TODAY)

"Thanks!" to many of you, including IRL (in this post), as well as Marietta, who let us know that J.Crew had an update to its website today (click here to view online).

There are some new arrivals for men (click here) & women (click here). {wahoo!} It looks like Crewcuts (click here) got an update, but not the J.Crew Collection (click here) got updated too.

The latest Holiday December catalog (click here to view) is available to flip through.

The roll-out seems to be a smaller one. Honestly, I did not know if there was a new roll-out today without this email confirming it. Whoops! ;)

What items are you most excited about and why? Which items are you surprised (or not surprised) to see? Which items did you hope would be included? Were you expecting a bigger roll-out today? Also, did you receive the latest catalog? :)

  1. Holy cow, a discount AND free shipping?! I will be placing a huge order for this, if only (well, not really) to show JC what a great idea it is to give cardmembers these benefits.

  2. I just noticed that the discount isn't on the image here - I got the same image in an email, but with a red bar across the top with a cardmember 30% one-time discount plus free shipping.

  3. Morning

Off topic, feel free to skip.

Does anyone recall the name of the tote bag featured in the picture on J Crew's net-a-porter
page (the picture on the right)?

I knew I had seen the "perfect" tote, but had forgotten where. I can't seem to find it in any catalogue that I have.

    Thanks

  4. Mona's windblown hair in the new catalog is cracking me up! JC should sell those little portable fans (heck, they're already selling water bottles) so that you can bring the windblown look with you.

  5. I already have a wool skirt in bright dahlia, but darnit if those wool pants in the same color isn't calling me. Would it be crazy to have both?

  6. Belle de jour, that is the classic leather tote, item 29495 ($165 FP), if I am not mistaken. Also, if I am not mistaken, it was in the sale section the other day, but seems to be sold out now. HTH.

  7. Interesting to see the Cashmere herringbone blazer for $995. I have a very similar jacket that's 100% cashmere herringbone from a few years ago and it was about half that price.

  8. Thanks, Amy. I'll give them a call and see if they can help me out.

  9. I am so not very impressed with the new rollout - the styling just looks so sloppy! I'm sure some of the pieces could be really cute but it's hard to visualize with all the wrinkles, poor fit and slouchy models. I remember when I used to work at a J.Crew in graduate school and employees all had to be so put-together! Minimum of 3 pieces per outfit, layering and belts were a must plus other accessories... and you could get so much inspiration from the catalogs! Now it just looks so...disheveled and mismatched. Apologies if this is something that should have been posted in the "vent" section!

  10. Has anyone tried the Chalet Turtleneck Sweater? Wondering how it fits...

  11. I need those pink pants! Totally unreasonable but I do!

  12. I won't fall for bright colored pants again. They look so cute on the models in the pictures but IRL I find that they tend to look more dowdy and matronly than fashionable, as the stack of pastel cords in my closet can verify.

  13. Questionable item of the rollout:
the nylon Schoolboy blazer. $148 (item 33364). Need I saw more? Is PFP here - there would make some good JCrew math.

I love the pink pants, although not in that silhouette.

  14. FYI, I just got back from my local B&M store, where they have 20% off jackets and outerwear

  15. Gigi, Hey! Lauren Hutton stole your idea of pairing orange and blue together! I heard it from you first, many months ago. Fabulous idea BTW, I wear blue with my persimmon double-serge pencil skirt all the time.

  16. Anyone else think the catalog pic on page 78 looks like the gal is drunk and staggering around some party with a Christmas tree, ornaments crashing on the ground? What, exactly are they going for here?

  17. Can't stand the suspense - where are these pix of Lauren Hutton ?

  18. Was just virtually flipping through holiday catalog and noticed an interesting description of the Jackie cardi (p. 68) ...

"A forever classic you can always count on (she's not going anywhere)."

Hmmm. Am I reading too much into this, or does it seem like a subtle reference to the widespread dissatisfaction with quality / design?

And JC has started offering previously unheard-of benefits (for them) like % off with free shipping and cardholder discounts ...

Maybe there is some evidence they are starting to listen to customer feedback??

  19. wellfedfred, on the jcrew.com home page the left sidebar has an "American Beauty" link with the Lauren Hutton details.

  20. thank you, xoxo, guess I'm on my own little planet as well!

  21. wellfedfred, don't feel bad. I flipped through the whole online catalog looking for Ms. Hutton and ended with a "what the deuce?"

And then I saw her, wearing Gigi's orange and blue pairing...

  22. ok, dashed thru Lauren's words of wisdom. Now I love Lauren Hutton, have for longer than I will admit, she's great, I love her stance, I love her spunk, I love her individuality, her make-up doesn't quite work for my skin tones but I love the concept… So I say this with all respect and with all due deference, I do not love seeing her submit to JL stylings. Some dear relatives of mine are convinced that when you are tall and thin and have great jewelry and fabulous hair, it doesn't matter what you wear. Um, I'd like to find this out by experience before passing judgment. Anyway, Lauren is one of those people who would look great in anything, but IMHO I think she looks greater in some of those looks than in others.

That said, after all these months of looking at JC runway & catalog models who look like preschoolers who got dressed all by themselves and accessorized out of Nana's dress-up box, SEEING LAUREN IS A PLEASURE.

  23. xoxo - They *do* read our blogs. *lol* Your persimmon & blue sound beautiful. I still cannot see her online. I think I have a different web set up. You know how they swap them out.

I am happy to hear amends were made for Ms. Hutton not being recognized in a NY J Crew after having modeled for them in 09. What a change from a 60+ y.o. model to these chintzy little mini skirts they're pimping to us.

  24. Gigi, try this link. It takes you right into the slideshow. The hyperlink on the main page pops up a pic of LH in a vibrant blue blouse under what looks like an orange double cloth coat. And one of her quotes specifically refers to wearing blue with orange. Yes indeed, they do read the blogs. The blue/orange is classic Gigi.
    :^)

  25. ^ The same blue shirt with orange double-cloth coat is also in the slideshow. It does look smashing if I can say so.

    ReplyDelete
  26. OK, LH is fabulous, but I don't really think most of the clothes in the slideshow do her any favors, and this is probably reflective of the problem with JC women's clothes right now. She looks like she raided her teenage granddaughter's closet in most of the outfits. The smocked waist minidress with leather biker jacket? Um, no. An oversized navy suit jacket with black capri pants? Just looks like she has no idea how to pair career-wear. LH to me = classy and sophisticated, and the clothes in the slideshow are not. Anyway, just MHO, flame away.

  27. xoxo - Thanks for the link. I saw the looks. The blue/orange is one of the few that does anything for her.

Cass - It's a sad spread indeed. The elastic waist skirt look is the worst. Really...it's just bizarre that they would choose her again when they've clearly been chasing a much younger clientele. Someone's having an identity crisis, but I don't think it's Lauren Hutton.

  28. silver_lining - *rofl* don't give JC any ideas about selling fans. If anything they need to sell portable steamers at the register.

  29. Wow I am so in love with the buffalo check jacket although I already got the Eddie Bauer $79 version.I love how it's styled in the new catalog. I can't wait to get this catalog in the mail... I hope I get it!

  31. was in the BM store in Hackensack NJ yesterday, the sales people there are lovely and they just bought back Mens, but the merchandise is a snooze fest other than kids. I dont think they have anything new there. and everyone in Wall Street extolls the skill of Drexler, I dont get it. is is one or 2 lls in extolls?
