  1. i lucked out and bought 2 sweaters still on promo, but with the new GIFT code,so in the end i saved 50% on them.
i bought the new chalet turtleneck.
any reviews for it or comments?

  2. This seems like a great promo. I had finished my Christmas shopping but now realize I have to buy clothes for my 6'3" son who looks like a goth ragamuffin these days. I must dude him up for the family festivities, this promo guarantees I'll bebuying him some Crew.

  3. Well, there goes my special fuzzy feeling I got from the cardmember promotion yesterday. BUT I am happy JCrew is doing this as so many other retailers are.

Mini review - I wore the plaid tuxedo tunic yesterday with black leggings and got SO many compliments. Very festive without being twee.

    ReplyDelete
  4. DaniBP, the phrase 'goth ragamuffin' make me choke on my coffee! Love it!

Good promo - although the million dollar question always becomes, will they update the sale section beyond day 1 of the sale?

    ReplyDelete
  5. I'm glad the non-cardmembers get a nice promo, too.

I'm toying with buying the Bronson booties in black leather. I'll check the reviews post, but if anyone wants to chime in on sizing and whether they like them, I'd appreciate it!

    ReplyDelete
  6. In the unlikely event that we can stack the cardmember promo, I would be delighted! Mwahaha.

    (eep! My captcha is "tracking.")

  7. Just placed an order yesterday for a few cashmere sweaters with my cardmember promo. Would love to pick up the Harris Tweed blazer if it popbacks in my size. Does anyone have this and can comment?? TTS, worth the price, nice fabric??? TIA!

    ReplyDelete
  8. @ina: I bought the chalet turtleneck in rich plum, which is a beautiful color. The weave is looser than I was expecting and I'm now convinced "seriously soft" is Crew-code for "itchy." Still not sure if I'm going to keep it.

  9. Good deal. I was *thisclose* to biting on the Sunnie Pencil skirt and a Lady Day coat, but changed my mind at the last minute. If they had more neutral colors in the Lady Day available on sale, I would have bitten for sure. Do they usually go on a deeper markdown after Christmas?

    ReplyDelete
  10. Some colors in the Lady Day coat are on sale. I don't normally track coat sales, but anyone who does - do you think the Nightfall Blue color will make it to a sale before spring? Also, how warm is it? They are predicting a bad winter in NYC.

    Thank you!

    ReplyDelete
  11. AppGal,

I got the gorgeous ribbon coat in red (which is a neutral IMO:) after Christmas for a steal so I would wait unless you NEED the coat (which I did not) Just adding to my collection:)

I already have a great camel colored wool coat from JCrew from many years ago when the quality was top notch. I love it and it is so classic in style.

  12. I bit and ordered a couple of the cashmere cowlnecks which I've been watching now forever and waiting for a decent sale. I would have liked to wait longer but they seemed to be selling out in a couple colors/sizes. I asked the online CS for measurements and it sounds like this thing runs huge! The CS rep compared the XXS measurement to an XS cashmere v-neck (which fits me well) and it was still bigger. I'm worried about the arm-tightness, though. Anyone own this one that can comment on sizing? TIA!

    ReplyDelete
  13. Just what I needed! Was able to score a few functional (and cute) work and casual pieces that are nursing/pumping friendly.

    Great timing!

    ReplyDelete
  14. This is a much better promo than we've seen lately, especially since they included free shipping. I'm considering a couple of items, so I may end up placing an order before the promo ends.

    ReplyDelete
  15. They got me again. I ordered a couple cashmere cardigans last night and now one of them got marked down and would be $80. on the new promo. Grr.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Genny: Thanks for the info! I think I will hold out for either the cobblestone color or the black. I don't necessarily NEED one right now but have wanted a nice wool coat for a while now (shocker--all I own are fleece and puffers!)

    ReplyDelete
  17. I bit. And it was a big bite.

    *Hangs head in shame*

    ReplyDelete
  18. @meg:is the chalet turtleneck TTS?
    TIA

  19. It's about time they had a super promo. That is one thing that irks me about Jcrew is the lack of discounts with free shipping.
    http://magpiestyle.net

    ReplyDelete
  20. AppGal,

My bet would be that you could get either of those colors after Christmas. Just keep your eye on them.

My JCrew coat collection has all been bought after Christmas and at good/deep discounts. Depending on your timing you could end up with both colors for what you might pay for one!

Just be patience- which can be hard- but pay off big time in the end.

  21. I order too much yesterday. Must put away card for awhile!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Sorry if this seems silly but am I missing what is so great with this promo.??? Haven't they had 25% off $150 (I know not nec. 30% off $250) recently. Is it still the same where the $150 amount has to be AFTER the discount is applied to get the free shipping. Sorry if I am being dense but I wonder if I am missing something???? Thanks for any help!

    ReplyDelete
  23. Genny, I think 30% off of new and sale items with free shipping is a pretty good promo for J. Crew. They just marked several items down further and updated the sale section the morning after announcing the promo and they also offered the 25% with $150. plus they did a 30% to all cardholders on an order of their choice with no minimum for most of December. I think that's pretty good for them and I appreciate it.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Elizabeth,

Thanks for the reply. Yes, for JCrew that is good:) I will have to take a look at the sale section/updates.

    ReplyDelete
  25. This promo was even better last night since the sweaters were still discounted.

It's % off the min. listed before discount, plus free shipping. It's a sweet deal (in my humble opinion)!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Genny: it's also a really good deal because if your amount is $150 before the discount, you will still get free shipping and the % off even if it ends up dipping below $150 (hope that makes sense!)

    ReplyDelete
  27. I still can't help but wonder what is motivating all these pre-Christmas promos. A bit unusual for J. Crew but by all means welcome. There are still frustrations with quality and styling but I've still found much to like. Does J. Crew's fiscal end in December? Is this about the buyout? Are sales down? There has got to be a reason they are doing all these promos.

    30% Sale, 25% Turkey, 25% w/free ship sweaters, 30% w/free ship everything - it's great, but surprising.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Dang, the Nightfall Blue pencil skirt sure did go fast! It was sitting in my cart, and by the time I went to check out, it had been taken out! Now it's on backorder. Those skirts come to about $88 (or less!) with the discount, so it's a great deal...anyone else bite on that one?

    ReplyDelete
  29. I'll be hitting the stores on my visit to NYC this weekend! SO happy about this promo :-)

    ReplyDelete
  30. Ordered the Dream Jewel-toggle cardigan last night with the 25% off sweaters + 30% off. It looked interesting... but wondering if anyone has any feedback? I also picked up the luminosa vest which I love. Nice Promo!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Love this promo! They have some goodies on sale!!! The luminosa puffer vest is marked down! I don't see it marked down on line yet, but the plaid eliza tee is marked down significantly in the stores! I love it!

    ReplyDelete
  32. I have gift cards laying around so I bit & ordered Atlee Cord Skirt, Francille Fray Blouse, Leather strap belt & a pair of bootcut cords. Have returns to make today which will create more gift cards so hopefully there will be updates or something to love @ the b&m.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Yes! I'm ordering the Colletta coat with thinsulate. Does anyone know if it fits tts? Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Only the citron Luminosa vest is marked down online. Are the other colors on sale in stores?

    ReplyDelete
  35. I highly recommend the Merino Vest (item 28148)--at $39.99 minus the discount, that is a great deal. I have it in the carbon color and LOVE it. It's so versatile. See it on me here (pic is toward the bottom).

    ReplyDelete
  36. Any comments about the double-cloth fabric? Is it warm enough for NE winter? I need a dressy black coat and am debating getting one of the double-cloth coats. I'm not sure if $157 (with promo) is a good price if it's not terribly warm (or if it's likely to drop further after Christmas). Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  37. IRL and AppGal,

That is what I was wondering if you could still get free shipping if your total fell below $150 AFTER the discount. That is unusual/never happened? that I can remember with JCrew.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Can anyone comment on the Merino dore cardigan? Tia!

    ReplyDelete
  39. This comment has been removed by the author.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Genny: Yep, it is rare. I ended up spending $135 and I still got the free shipping. Normally they take away FS once you dip below the minimum.

    ReplyDelete
  41. MDPA, the double cloth looks lovely but is not very warm. More of a fall than winter coat fabric. If you want warm you should go with the stadium cloth, or at least get thinsulate (though they don't put thinsulate in the sleeves, so you end up with a warm torso and chilly arms).

    ReplyDelete
  42. Elizabeth, at least for the last 2 yrs they have done a lot of promos at xmas time. Also, perhaps they didn't do great numbers for t-giving weekend due to competitors' better promos, so now they have to step it up.

KL, I have the colletta coat and took the larger of my 2 JC sizes. It is fitted so if you want room to layer underneath you should size up if you are between sizes.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Desert Flower: I have pics of the Bronson bootie on my blog (just search for it). They fit TTS, and they were comfy to walk in (similar to SWs). I am an 8M usually.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Cass I don't remember a 30% off new and sale items with free shipping in years, maybe ever. Last year we were looking for the 20% promo codes. Then the 25% Mickey card. 30% off of new items with free ship both online and in stores is unique to me unless my memory is failing :)

    And it could be!

    ReplyDelete
  45. OT but will there be another roll out before the holidays? I know there was a "mini" one earlier this week.

    TIA!

    ReplyDelete
  46. Help! I am looking at the Double-cloth lady day coat. First, is this a nice coat? Second, how warm is it? I live in Charleston, SC so the temperate usually doesn't go below freezing. Am I going to be warm or do I need the Thinsulate. I really need a nice looking coat for work.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Leadergirl,

I own several double-cloth coats, and find their warmth adequate for the south. (I live in Georgia)

This promo was way too tempting to pass up...so I bit on quite a few cardigans, another wool bell skirt, and a stadium cloth pea coat In golden sunflower...which was a great deal at $138 pre-tax!! I am thinking about another Colletta. I have one in spicy russet....and the fit is amazing! I thought it ran tts.

    ReplyDelete
  48. OT, but interesting timing. Appeared yesterday.

  49. Lauren- I know in store they are getting new items (mini rollout) next week and a bit rollout scheduled right around Christmas hth

  50. A quick CS rave!

I ordered some items during the turkey promo that have since gone on sale and contacted j crew without issue- I am now receiving a price adjustment in addition to the promo price I paid since they have yet to arrive (I'm in Canada) and at this point I'd have reordered the same items for the additional discounts.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Eventhough the promo said it doesn't apply to factory items- the ones I had in my cart were also discounted. I bought just a couple basics- a few cardigans, belts and tops and an arrow jacket- I'm hoping the lady day coat will go to sale in some of the other colors before I purchase.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Bummed that I missed the opportunity to combine this with the sweater promo last night! I was debating using my cardholder one, but decided to wait, but I could have totally used this one for some great prices! And I was up late enough too, just not in front of the JC website. That'll teach me! :)

Back to stalking the sale section I guess. Hopefully the things I wanted will get marked down soon. I agree this promo is a great one though! Go JC!

    ReplyDelete
  53. I totally bit with some crewcuts stuff and shirts for my DH but I wished I would have stayed up late to have taken advantage of the sweater promo as well.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I can't decide between the cashmere cowlneck in black or gray. I don't need either, but this is a good price. Anyone have the gray? It looks really pretty in the catalog.

    ReplyDelete
  55. This is TOTALLY OT, but on top of everyone's list of what J. Crew can improve on is to add an online wish list.

Well, there is one now, sort of. On Madewell's gift guide, there's a link to "create a wish list." Click on it and you'll see what J. Crew thinks of the online wish list idea.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Kris-I think the black would be very versatile (spelling?). I have the blue and it's so cozy and soft. Very flattering IMO. You could pair the black with just about any color pencil skirt, grey slacks, cords, (jeans, of course). It would look great with ivory linen pants. You could add color through a belt or earrings. Or keep it really elegant and basic. I don't think you'll regret this sweater. It's fabulous. In fact, I love mine so much I ordered the henna.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Carnivoregirl - HA! Thanks for the laugh! Oh yeah, and thank you Jcrew for the laugh too! Maybe this shows the level of technology at your company, or maybe you're just being frugal during these tough economic times. (just poking fun!)

Oh, I didn't know Madewell is having 25% off sweaters now too!

    ReplyDelete
  58. Hollylovescrew, thanks! Someone had a polyvore of the black with the Sunnie pencil skirt which I thought looked great, so I'm going to have to take the plunge. Hope you love the henna.

    ReplyDelete
  59. I need some help to locate an item that I would like to get with this promo. It's the open cashmere cardigan, the store version which has a straight hem (not rounded) and pockets. Anybody has this one and can tell me the style #? It is sold out in my store and they couldn't help. TIA!

I think that the last great promo that we had was the TURKEY one in 2008, which if I am not mistaken was 30% off every order with a minimum of $175. So this one is definitively the best in a long time.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Carnivore Girl, OMG that is the lame-assest, lame-ass thing I have seen in a while. Kee-ripes!

    ReplyDelete
  61. I found my favorite super thin neon pink belt that I love and wear all the time. Total cost $25.

    ReplyDelete
  62. So excited for those of you that were able to combine the 2 promos on sweaters. Wish I'd have caught that myself!

    ReplyDelete
  63. I had a crazy early meeting at the office today so placed an order during the wee hours. Picked up the gold Sunnie skirt and I'm surprised that there are still so many sizes left, I thought they would sell out at $63 or $67.50 with the discounts.

    ReplyDelete
  64. does anyone know if this deal will work on top of the cardholder 30% promo?

    ReplyDelete
  65. Carnivore Girl that almost made my 2-day headache go away. *rofl*

    ReplyDelete
  66. The one good thing about being on the left coast, we sometimes benefit from double promos. Last night I could have bought the sweaters at almost 50% off w/ the 25%+30%.

    Elizabeth-
If you are asking about the Harriet Blazer in Cafe, I didn't find the color all that pleasing and the fit was a little long & big. For reference I'm 5'7 and the blazers & coats are usually TTS for me.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Carnivore Girl, you just can't make this stuff up.

    ReplyDelete
  68. mlnolan00
I've never been able to stack codes at JC, so I doubt it. The only thing that could work if there is a promo going on, that doesn't require a code.

    ReplyDelete
  69. I'm looking at the Maribel Coat. I live 3 hrs from a store. Can anyone give sizing suggestions? I'm usually 0, 2 but can fit into a fitted blazer size 2, and coats...maybe I take a 4 but don't know? Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  70. I have the Meribel in a medium, and usually wear a 6 or 8 in coats. I'm very happy with the Meribel - it's toasty but not suffocatingly warm, has a great hood, doesn't make me feel like a massive marshmallow...definitley recommend.

    ReplyDelete
  71. This is the promo I have been waiting for. I bit and in a big way; I almost feel ashamed. I go some knee high socks for my daughter from the sale section, and for me a perfect fit tee, two double serge skirts, and the langford oxfords.

I was in two stores today and only saw a very small sign at each stating the promo, but only for the 25%, not for the 30% above $250. interetsing.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Last night I was trying to order the dulphine sweater, Trouper pant and crew cut dress and couldn't order. I got as far as putting in my code for the 30% discount. I tried a second time and my code wouldn't work. I got frustrated and gave up. I decided to call jc this morning and gave my sob story to my cs and asked if i could still stack the sweater discount with my 30% and he said yes! Love it! And he even called me back to tell me he found the sweater in small through a store search.

    ReplyDelete
  73. The Chic Chauffeur - how much is the plaid eliza tee in the stores? TIA

    ReplyDelete
  74. Ashley:

I ordered the merino dore in the ivory color. First, that particular color is fairly sheer. My next frustration was that the buttons on the cardigan weigh it down. If you don't button all the way up, the top corner (the one with the button) will flap down.

Sizing wise, I ordered my usual M. It fit. The cardigan is longer than other cardigans I've purchased (dream v, jackie)

In the end, I returned it.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Math Teacher - saw it weds for $69.99 at Mad Ave NY. HTH.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Dina- Thanks for the reply! I didn't think about the weight of the buttons so I'm glad you brought that to my attention! I guess I need to look for a different red cardigan.

    ReplyDelete
  77. I was in the downtown Seattle B&M store and there are many items marked down in tghe store that are full price on line. Luminosa puffer vests and sherpa hoodies were 30% off. Lots of sweaters too.
I didn't buy anything but will probably go back to look again because there was so much on sale (besides ratty looking tees).

    ReplyDelete
  78. @ina: Sorry I'm slow. The chalet turtleneck is a bit longer than I hoped since I'm short, and I have a "large bust", which we all know J. Crew isn't exactly made for, so I usually end up ordering up to accommodate that. That said, the fit (other than the length) is what I was expecting. Hope that helps at least a little!

    ReplyDelete
  79. wellfedfred, thanks. That's still too much for me. I'm hoping that since not many jca's like it, that it will eventually go on super sale. :)

    ReplyDelete
  80. Elizabeth, I think it was 2 years ago (maybe 3) when in- store there was additional 40%off sale (I'm positive - they even combined the student discount!) - they also had 40%off online a couple times I think. I've never seen anything *more* than these tiered 30% off codes for full price items, but am trying to not let that persuade me to purchase items I don't really need :)

    ReplyDelete
  81. I bought the Golden Wood cord pencil in a size 6 and the Pearl Grey double serge pencil skirt in an 8. Good deals on both. Hoping the sizes/lengths are right for me

I also appreciate that you don't have to spend 150 for the free shipping! Thanks, JCrew.

And what's up with that wishlist??? Are you kidding? Also that cardigan that looks like a teddy bear? I can't decide if I love it or hate it.

(Also, my word verification was 'doturd'. Hehehehehehe... Sorry.)

    ReplyDelete
  82. This comment has been removed by the author.

  83. I am not buying anything with this promo. I just don't need anything. I love the double serge pencil skirt but I already have it in like 8 colors... I just can't justify any more!

    ReplyDelete
  84. Well my vent did not last......all is forgiven (ordered item never received)----what a difference 30% makes :-)

Tried a 'Crew personal shopper tonight and I am glad I did. She sifted through all-stores' inventory and found a Ludlow suit my size----great thing there aren't a lot of skinny guys in California.

Went with an Aldridge suit in heather charcoal too, this would look great with a plain white shirt and a dark plain tie and a white pocket square----Pierce Brosnan (my fave 007) eat your heart out :-)

    ReplyDelete
  85. Leader Girl,
The lady day is a great coat, but you should probably size up. Am I right, fellow JCAs? This style runs small. Esp. if you get thinsulate... then you must size up. I sized up to an 8 tall (I never order an 8 in ANYTHING) and it is still barely fitting. It's gorgeous though and a lovely, timeless style. The thinsulate is nice and I don't think it would be too warm, even for Charleston weather... it is still pretty thin and light.

    ReplyDelete
  86. I bit! I bit! Even though I could have taken advantage of the sweater promo plus the GIFTS discount, I'm not too sorry I waited because the items I wanted didn't pop back up to FP.

I got Jackie twin sets in pewter (makes up for missing out on same earlier this spring) and orchid shadow (i'm in love with this colour), Chevron pleat shirts in white and charcoal, Perfect stretch shirts in burgundy and olive, and cashmere crewneck cardi in heather tide, bronzed olive and heather agate (looooove these colours).

Now let's hope the order ships (completely and correctly). Should ship in time for me to put box under the tree. "what's this? gift for me?" :D

    ReplyDelete
  87. @carnivore girl: ROFL (wipes tears from eyes). Are they for real?

    ReplyDelete
  88. math teacher - I am betting the plaid eliza will go down more. There were A LOT of them left when I looked. It is cute, but you can only wear it for a certain period of time!

    ReplyDelete
  89. Rose, thanks for the info on the Bronson bootie. I ordered it in black leather. With the discount, free ship and a gift card I had, they will end up costing me very little money. They look great on you!

    ReplyDelete
  90. Sales section updated about 15 minutes ago

    ReplyDelete
  91. cinammonruffles thank you for feedback!

    ReplyDelete
  92. Thanks, and you're welcome, Desert Flower! I am certain you will enjoy them! If I didn't have 2 pairs of very similar SW booties from previous years I would go for a pair myself. They look very cute!

    ReplyDelete
  93. A group of us from work put together an order. So instead of us at best getting 25%, we scored 39%. I know 5% isn't much, but made the three of us smile even more.

Best part is getting 30% off new arrivals and not having to wait and watch for a sale only to see them sell out in the size or colour we wanted.

    ReplyDelete
  94. Has anyone tried on the Chunky Fair Isle funnelneck sweater? This is the most annoying thing about ordering online ..I am always different sizes and am never sure if things run big, small, or tts. TIA for any suggestions =)

    ReplyDelete
  95. Crewgirl- the chunky knit fair isle sweater might be my favorite purchase all year! I found it to be tts. I wasn't sure because the xxs option but I got my normal xs and it fits great. The sleeves are just right- although the material doesn't really give or stretch so it you are between sizes at all maybe go up one?

    ReplyDelete
  96. I think I'll have a chat with my lovely personal shopper-----that red gingham (at 30%) is on faaaaayyyyyyaaaaaahhhhhhhhh!

    ReplyDelete
  97. Jcrew Guy in Canada,

That is a great idea to order together from work. A bunch of us used to do that at work too. It really was fun!

    ReplyDelete
  98. CrewGurl - Irl pics of the chunky funnelneck in this post. I agree to take your usual JC size and *not* size down one.

    ReplyDelete
  99. Has anyone tried using the student/educator discount in-store on top of the GIFTS 25/30% off? Any luck? Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  100. I found the chunky fair aisle sweater to run a TINY bit small. I am normally an XS or S depending on the sweater and I needed a S in this. I probably could have worn the XS, but it was tight in the arms (which is not usually an issue for me) and I wanted it to have a more relaxed look. I didn't get it in the store and now I regret it because it is sold out in my size online! Oh well.
