"Looking to LOVE" with J.Crew

Preface: A big "thanks!" to Ibi who suggested weekly 'Looking to LOVE' and 'Looking to HATE' posts where we could all "deposit" our best & worst current experiences. I think it is a brilliant idea and will try it out for a few weeks. Hopefully this will help out our fellow JCAs! :)

This is the weekly "Looking to LOVE with J.Crew" post, a place to share our favorite experiences with J.Crew.

If you have recently experienced a positive situation with J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including stellar experiences with purchases & orders, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. Had a great customer service experience the other night. I had a blazer from the factory that didn't end up working for me but I'd misplaced the receipt. 3 months later, I find the receipt. With the new policy, I figured I'd be lucky if I got store credit. The SA gave me the full refund without me even asking! I was thrilled!

  3. I have to say again how much I love my ps. I recently went to Disney World and had a list of items to get for my sister, niece, and nephew. :) Well, needless to say, I forgot an item for my sister who was very disappointed. My ps was leaving 2 days after I returned home, so I texted him and asked him to pick it up for me. It's waiting for me at JC! So great to have developed a friendship with him - he really is the best! I met another shopper who uses him as her ps, and we both commented on how much we loved him and his honesty. I never feel like he's trying to get me to buy. I hope that everyone's ps is as great as mine. :)

  4. Great story, math teacher! Like you, I have a GREAT ps! She is the store manager, and she really rocks.

  6. Just want to give props to my online PS...she is amazing! In another thread, you all mentioned getting a Christmas gift for your PS...do any of y'all do this for your online PS?

  7. I love my tissue turtleneck tees, they come in such wonderful colors that I have been collecting for a few years now. It's fun to pair complimentary or contrasting colors with the Jackie cardis. I am sensitive to wool so these are great under wool sweaters too of course. Lately I have been wearing them under some of the suiting dresses as well. A versatile winter piece that I have never seen duplicated quite as well by other retailers.

  9. Oh, and I am loving my new Tartan Perfect shirt (pics and reviews here). For those of you who are sad you missed out on it, try a WWFIFY search. There are still some stores out there who have a bunch of sizes left. It's worth a shot!

  10. I love my chambray popover, tissue turtlenecks, the tartan boy shirt too! I also love the fair isle sweater so very much :) I have also been loving the skirts as always and the colors of the tights (although not how they hold up :) )
    Looking forward to spring!

  11. I do a majority of my shopping at J.Crew but have never utilized the Personal Shopper service, online or in store. I'm always worried that I'll be pressured to buy and it will take a lot of time. Can I get some feedback on other people's PS experiences? What exactly is the benefit to using one?
It seems like a lot of people on here have had good experiences, but I'm still worried it will be more trouble than it's worth.
Please let me know if I should "take the plunge", lol.
    Thanks!!!

  12. AppGal, you are so right. My PS found the tartan shirt for me in a store, so it's definitely worth the WWFIFY. She is great, she also found me the Kingston booties, which are pretty much sold out online.

  13. I gotta say that I love my Marled Thandie blazer. Love! I got it for less than $50 and have worn it a ton. Very versatile. I know some people were disappointed it wasn't fully lined, but I honestly like it better that way. It feels more comfortable and less formal, even though it is great for a suit alternative. Thanks to Alexis who reviewed it and the others who chimed in on its virtues!

  14. mlnolan00, I highly recommend an online PS. Mine has helped me sort out issues with my orders, sought out HTF items with great success, grants me price adjustments without hassle (when valid, of course), extended a promo when I had issues ordering from the site before the promo ended, tried on shoes and provided feedback on the fit/comfort, gives her opinion on fabric quality/feel by looking at the items in the mock store and also gets me measurements and compares them to other items I recently bought.

I was a bit worried that I'd get sales pressure from a PS but she really is involved only as much as I want her to be. If we don't have contact for a while she will email just to check in or let me know when new arrivals are coming. It's been over a year now and there has been zero pressure and the benefits to me are well worth it.

I am in Canada so can't speak to the Retail PS experience but math teacher and others have often left glowing comments about their PSs.

  15. I don't have an online PS, although I have been emailed to see if I was interested in one. I love my in store PS- she's completely awesome. Like others have mentioned, I don't feel any pressure to buy something if I don't love it. I see her often in store and occasionally meet elsewhere as well. I rarely ever shop if she's not working.

  16. I totally second everything xoxo said about an online PS. Mine is available on an as-needed basis. She's helped do PAs and find items, plus so much more. It's definitely worth having one.

  17. I use Kristin Garvey, who works out of the retail store in Cambridge, Massachusetts and she is wonderful - she doesn't pressure me to buy anything and the two orders I did were shipped right away. She always lets me know when there are promos and invites me to stuff but is never, ever, pushy. Really nice & easygoing personality too. Her email is kristin.garvey@jcrew.com

  18. I don't have an online PS and my B&M ones are not so reliable (in terms of alerting me of new markdowns or what not). I found out that the popular PS's at B&M have so many clients that they don't contact bottom feeders like myself...

How do you secure an online PS?

  19. jcrewphd, just email erica@jcrew.com. It's a shared mailbox that is monitored by the Personal Shoppers and some of them will contact you.

  20. ^ Sorry, I mean *one* of them will contact you.

  21. I am still in love with my Tartan Boy shirt, too. In fact, I'm wearing it again today...this time layered over a winter white turtleneck with my Gap Navy schoolboy blazer and in-store only faded black J.Crew trouper-style pants. Here's my Polyvore: click here. :)

  22. Love that finally a promo is stackable (in stores, at least) - additional 25% off sale items (but final sale) can be stacked with the 25% $150 :)

  23. I was so excited when I saw the fuscia wool slacks in the new catalog, then bummed when I saw they have zippers at the bottom and looked like minis... b&m has a wonderful narrow cuffed version that I am thrilled to have received with the 25% discount--hooray!

  24. So, two "love" posts in one week! I LOVE the striped cotton "Frenchie" blazer featured in Jan Lucky. And $118 is pricey for cotton, but not completely outrageous. I'm assuming it will be in the resort rollout? Starting to feel it was the right thing to pass on Loft's striped merino (MERINO for $98) jacket. I'll try to find a picture for non-Lucky readers :)

  25. xoxo: Thanks for the suggestion. I will try contacting that email instead of the generic "contactus" one. ;-)

  26. Love my Thandie wool blazer in black. Just got it for $49.99 in a store.

The lined sleeves make it super comfy with tanks and tees. The fabric is gorgeous.

If you're between sizes, I'd get the larger of the two. It looks terrible if worn too tight.

  27. I have had my eye on the Cord pencil skirt all season and after seeing Roxy in a couple lately, I ordered the Cord pencil skirt in Golden Wood with the GIFTS promo and I looooove it. So much so that I ordered the other two colors (which are on sale!) with the PRESENTS promo.

I ordered it in a regular size 6 and found the length to be right at that leg lengthening sweet spot. I'm 5'5'' and the skirt is 22 1/4 long. I also think it's the most slimming pencil skirt I've ever worn - maybe how a pencil skirt should really look? Anyway, I'm addicted.

I also ordered the double-serge pencil skirt (in 8 - my true non-JCrew size) and found the length on that one to be bordering on mid-calf. I sent it back for an exchange and hoping the 8P will work out because I loved the Pearl Grey color and the look and feel of the wool. Hoping there are not many other 8Ps out there who will be competing for these when/if they go on sale. ;)

I know there are some bizarre quality issues lately but the combo of this great skirt and the great promos lately have restored Jcrew to a warm and fuzzy place in my heart.

  28. Bibliophiliac-

Had a bizarre quality issue in my order this week. Will not post anymore of that here though. I was having more warm fuzzy feelings up until this issue came back to haunt me!

Glad you got a great skirt:)

  29. Loving my flannel pajama set, my tartan boy shirt and my Sunnie pencil skirt. Very happy with recent purchases and promos.

Mommydearest, that jacket sounds interesting. I saw the LOFT one but wasn't impressed.
