JCA "Help Style Me!" Weekly Post

Preface: A big "thanks!" to Elaine (in this post) & Himmiefan (in this post) who both suggested a weekly "Help Style Me!" post about getting outfit advice from the JCA community. I think it is a fantastic idea. Hopefully this will help out our fellow JCAs with those hard-to-work-with J.Crew items! :)

This is the weekly "Help Style Me!" post, where we can share items we are having trouble putting outfits together with. Elaine says it best, "You know, that thing you bought because you love it and you keep pulling it out and then putting it away without wearing it?"

Please share your J.Crew item (either that you own or are thinking about getting) that you would love help creating an outfit with.

Also, please help out by offering your styling advice. Feel free to include links to your blog (where you incorporated that piece) or to Polyvore (where you showcased an outfit with that piece). Thanks in advance! :)

  1. I need some advice on how to style the gray Traversa cardigan. I've had it for awhile, but haven't worn it yet. Thanks!

  3. I mentioned this on another post, but can anyone give me some ideas for the short britten boot that aren't so harsh? They keep selling out so I know people are wearing them! I have the black ones and I think that may be part of the issue. I tried on the brown short ones in store and the tall brown ones and didn't have as much of an issue.

Also thanks for the tip on the catalogue! I always get mine so late.

  4. Thanks! I don't own any cords. I'll have to try that out. I definitely like the idea of pairing them with an oxford shirt. Today I wore them with skinny jeans, a black and grey striped perfect fit tank and a white blazer I got from Ann Taylor.

Sorry I actually ordered the tall brown ones online, but there was a return (not in my size) at the Georgetown (DC) store about a week ago. I think a 9? That's what got me to order them. I think the sizing is pretty comparable (as in they run about half a size large). I really, really like the tall ones, but it was too loose around my ankles. Also if they are sold out of the regular in your size, I didn't find much difference between that and the extended calf. I tried both when I placed my order.

  5. I've got a ton of goodies that just sit in my closet.
Drapey Sequin Tee- I have the blush and the pewter. What bottoms and shoes to wear with these?
Victoria Ruffle Cami in chartreuse- I am short and busty so when I wear this I feel squat. Maybe I should just sell it?
Bettina Camis- I feel like this is so versatile but the minute I put it on a wrinkled mess. How are you making this look polished?
    Thank you!

  7. Jojo from the Blog, I'm busty but tall and I was concerned the Victoria would add volume on top but it doesn't. I wear my Victoria cami under v-neck pullovers or cardigans like the cotton bling-button cardis from summer. I only have one silk Victoria but I have three tissue tee Victorias and I love them with a v-neck sweater. Perhaps a longer sweater over top, like a boyfriend style, could elongate your silhouette.

Unfortunately I don't have any of the other items you listed but I would wear the tweed schoolboy with jeans, cords, pencil skirts or minis. It would probably look great over your chartreuse Victoria cami as well.

  11. Anyone have a fabulous idea on how to style this cardi which has been hanging in my closet for months? I absolutely love it but it seems to go best with jeans and I almost never wear jeans... I do have skirts in pretty much every length and color if that helps ;)
