The weather in New England hasn't warmed up completely yet. However, thoughts of what I will wear this late Spring and Summer fill my head thanks to J.Crew's latest catalog featuring sunny images of Turks & Caicos.
So I thought it would make for a great post to talk about which warm-weather item from J.Crew we are most looking forward to wearing.
The item I can't wait to wear the most is the highly discussed (if not loved) Library-Print Doll Dress (Item 86737; $225.00) from J.Crew's Fall 2007 Collection. I was super excited to find this dress (in excellent, practically new condition) on eBay for a reasonable price a few months ago. Now I can't wait to finally wear it.
What J.Crew item are you most looking forward to wearing during the warm weather season? :)
Where to begin?? I really want to get the new Jericho bag. And I'm super excited to buy and wear a pair of the cork wedges with my cropped matchstick jeans.
ReplyDeleteOoh, you got the Library dress Alexis? How wonderful! I'm so glad you scored a great deal on it. I have it and love it (bookworm that I am ;) ).
ReplyDeleteI personally am most excited to pull out my blue gingham Peggy dress from '08...always makes me feel summery and happy!
Oh the ribbon cut wave dress that I bought a few weeks back, it's itching to escape from my wardrobe.
ReplyDeleteMy Cape Stripe Underwire Tank Swimsuit (Item 26674). I love stripes, and the ruching is perfect. I just hope I'll have the opportunity to swim a lot this summer.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of finding prior-season J Crew items on Ebay, I keep hoping to find the orange and white cotton fish-print skirt from maybe four years (or five!) ago. Anyone remember that? It was when they were using a lot of great Italian printed fabrics.
ReplyDeleteOh, I love my Library dress. I wore it in the winter with a cardigan. Why not wear it now? It was originally in the fall catalog. Personally, I only wear mine in the fall and winter as I think the print and colors are more for that season! Go for it now:)
ReplyDeleteAnd my pick to wear this weekend as it is going to reach 90 is my fish dress in the kelly green print:) Love it!
ReplyDeleteTabitha - ditto! I can't wait to wear the ribbon cut wave dress out and about. :)
ReplyDeleteI wore my orange/white fish print skirt yesterday from a few years ago. Love it. Wish JCrew still made those fun prints.
ReplyDeleteI cannot wait to wear my seaglass gown that I bought end of last season.
Definitely my critter print polos from 08.
ReplyDeleteI have so many fabulous spring and summer things from past season as well as this year. Its getting very warm here so I'm pulling them all out! The linen ikat skirt from last year, the silk slub Zoey cami, potpourri strapless dress, eyelet skirt. The list goes on and on!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations Alexis on finding your beloved dress! :)
ReplyDeleteFor me, warm weather means dresses and breezy sort of clothes. I'm fortunate because the weather in Texas is kind in the spring and warms up to the 80's.
Old items: Swiss Dot Bobbie Dress, the original Elizabeth ruffled halters, Maribella floral coverup.
Have a great day everyone.
I'm itching to break out all the bathing suits I bought at the end of last season at lower-than-Walmart prices. I think I bought six. Nothing says summer like six brand-new bathing suits!
ReplyDeleteMy pick is kind of boring, but I can't wait to wear my jersey knit dresses like my Lisa dress, tie-front dress, etc. They are the epitome of easy summer living.
ReplyDeleteI love my Meredith dress! I should say dresses actually because I have it in the white, the navy, and that gorgeous aqua. I love wearing them all summer, dressing them up, wearing them to the beach, brunch with my hubby. It is the best and prettiest summer dress!
ReplyDeletecan't wait to wear the fan eyelet mini, mica mini, and leave the house with a feather weight cardi as the only "outer layer"!
ReplyDeleteI'm really excited to wear my Ames Watercolor Potpourri Dress once I'm not prego ... I haven't gotten to wear it yet!
ReplyDeleteRight now, I'm loving wearing my Travel Trench and Metallic Gold Beach Cardigan!
Great post, Alexis!
I can't wait to (finally) wear the Rose Vines strapless dress I snagged at the SoHo store 6 weeks ago. I never saw it online or in the catalog, but I LOVE it so much. The only place I have ever seen it is on this blog (and it looks a little strange with the black tights) http://kelindakelinda.blogspot.com/2010/03/jcrew-reviews.html It's also shorter than that on me. Anyway, can't wait for the beautiful weekend weather to get here in NYC so I can wear this to brunch!!
ReplyDeleteItching to break out the honeyclover prairie dress, Rose Vines strapless dress (retail only), Ames Watercolor Potpourri dress, and the Waterfloral pastiche Taryn dress (slated for June 12 @ my girlfriends wedding!). I am also still on the mend from foot surgery, so I am dying to finally be able to wear flirty high heels!
ReplyDeletehillary,
ReplyDeleteI have all three colors in that dress too. I bought the aqua at full price when it first came out--back in May 2007 I think it was...then the other two colors on super sale:)
Summer,
ReplyDeleteHow funny! That is the exact process I had with buying the dress three times! That aqua color is so amazing, isn't it? There was no way I could resist it at first sight. Then I was so in love with the dress along with the color I kept buying it. I'm glad someone else understands!
Alexis, that Library dress is such beauty and unique!
ReplyDeleteI'm excited to wear my eyelet pencil skirt in shadow that I exchanged with another JCA this week. Also, I can't wait to wear the Goldwyn dress and jersey ruffle dress in caspian blue from last summer. But that Cocodrillo skirt I didn't buy is haunting me to this day!
And always my favorites are my Joley tortoise and Penelope peep toe heels (red, navy, tan combo).
Can anyone give me the info on the Rose Vines strapless dress? I wonder if I can do a WWFIFY?
jcrewphd@gmail.com
Thank you!
I can't wait to wear my Playa Tank Dress in the bright mineral blue color from a few seasons back. I wore it to my rehearsal dinner which was on the beach and haven't had a chance to wear it since!
ReplyDeleteRandom...but does anyone know of a pair of JC matchstick jeans that has a patch near the ankle/heel area (to cover up a torn area)? I just received 2 of the same pair of jeans and am pretty sure one of them has been washed and worn quite a few times (even the tags on the inside are quite faded which shouldn't be the case if they are new), then returned and sent to me!
I'm enjoying reading about all your summer favorites. With a warm weekend coming up, this is an excellent topic.
ReplyDeleteOT: I'm finally wearing the Lands' End Canvas heritage cardigan I bought a couple weeks ago. The coral color is absolutely beautiful, but I'm less than thrilled with the fit. It's a little bit loose and boxy, which seems even worse since the fabric is very stretchy. I should have sized down. I'm always on the fence with LE sizing in the cotton sweaters. They tend to be big and boxy but they also tend to shrink in the wash over time.
Love this topic. I just got the Dauphine tweed jacket in the mail yesterday - the first time I tried it on, I did so in my usual size & didn't like it. Sized down, and now it makes me giddy. Love this jacket.
ReplyDeleteOthers who have this little treasure: How/with what are you wearing it? I am picturing myself wearing it with pegged jeans (OK, yes, I admit it: I *do* like this trend, hee hee) - and a tee, but how else? NOT with skyhigh heels and piles of jewelry :-) Not with farmer overalls, a la j.crew's suggestion, either ... :-)
Does anyone have anything good or bad to say about the current crop of knit dresses at JC? I'm looking for something easy to throw on this summer. Does anyone suspect they will introduce more in May or are Jessie, Pretty ruffles, Double V, Rosella... my best choices for summer?
ReplyDeleteThanks.
hillary,
ReplyDeleteThat is amazing we both went through the same process with the Meredith dress! Thanks for posting. Great minds think alike;)
I haven't liked a dress as much as this one since that time either!
Thanks everyone for sharing your top item. It so fun to hear what everyone's pick is. :)
ReplyDeleteLindsey B.: Congrats on your pregnancy!!! That is such exciting news. :) The Travel Trench is gorgeous!
Goldenmeans, Linda, & JCrewPhD: Thanks! I am really excited about getting the dress too. Yey! :)
I would be so happy with shorts and a tee today. We're having a spring snowstorm and summer seems a long way off, although last week we had 70F weather. :(
ReplyDeleteI bought a couple of new bikinis so will be breaking those out as soon as it's pool weather. I love J.Crew swimwear, especially the Italian jersey.
crewcrazy, i have the jessie dress in navy and black and really like them. they are cute with cardigans of varying length (hooray for options!) and wedges. and i imagine they'll be nice and light in the dog days of july/august in nyc.
ReplyDeletealexis, this is a great post!
jcrewphd - I have the Cocodrillo pencil skirt, it is by far one of my favorites!
ReplyDeleteI looked at my receipt, the dress is called the Rose Vines Bandaged dress, (WA7707 / 099101979814). It was $138 when I purchased it back in late January, I have no idea if it is on sale now. Good luck!
Very excited about this dress: http://bit.ly/dhH7nJ which I've actually worn a few times already. It looks weird in that pic (and terrible against the wood background), but looks REALLY good on despite being longer than what I'd usually wear in a strapless dress. I stole it from my roommate . . . she left it (and some other AWESOME J.Crew items) while studying abroad :D
ReplyDeleteI also just got the Luxe Terry Bloomer Shorts in the mail yesterday (faded black) and I REALLY like them (I was worried!). I'm wearing them right now with a t-shirt, looking like a total college rat, but they're super comfortable and are capable of being styled less casually.
My liberty print bikini I got for $9.99/piece last year... and my new Pippa peep toes in lilac... and my school of fish tank that I got in a sample sale and have yet to wear!
ReplyDeleteI too miss the old prints... and will have to consider wearing my library dress in the warmer weather. Thanks for the inspiration Alexis!
@ Marietta: Thank you so much for the dress info. I've got to contact WWFIFY team! Does it fit TTS, btw? I'm not too busty.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to wear the abstract lattice print dress I picked up from the outlet earlier this month.
ReplyDeleteWell, many of the items I stockpiled at the end of last summer for this spring and summer are now way too big for me to wear. Which is great, but it's also a MAJOR bummer, because when I bought these things I wasn't counting on having everything altered! I have the lattice linen/cotton dress, my beloved Serengheti dress and several others that I can't wait to wear, but it needs to warm up just a tad before I can -- which gives me time to get a few taken in every 2 weeks or so. My shorts are a lost cause, I think ... I must've bought 6 pair during the end of summer final FINAL sale, and now they're all one size too big. :-/ Not sure it's worth it to have them taken in; I guess I could get a pair priced and find out? There goes my great $6.99 deal on shorts. ARGH!
ReplyDeleteBut -- everything, really. My J Crew suits I've had for years and could never fit into will make their debut this year ... my ikat skirt from last year (needs to be taken in also, urgh)) ... the green lisa dress I got from dina in the weekly exchange ... I will be stylin' this spring/summer! ;-)
Oh, derrr, by 'suits' in my previous post I meant swimsuits. The Florentine print Antibes bikini and the emerald green School of Fish ones in particular. They'd be PERFECT if they had light padding but I'll still take 'em! ;-)
ReplyDeleteHas anyone tried on pretty ruffles jersey dress? A lot of times the XS in jersey dresses is too small for me. I'm wondering how the sizes run and how it fits. Thanks.
ReplyDelete@jcrewphd - I would say it fits TTS. I'm a 34C, and I took my usual size 2. HTH!
ReplyDeleteEvery summer I can't wait to wear my anchor-print full skirt from 07. And it reminds my how much I WISH I had bought more that year... Oh, and this year I'm waiting to wear the cocodrillo pieces from last year :)
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the library dress, Alexis!
Looking forward to wearing my Bazaar Tunic from this Spring. I am in LOVE with this print!
ReplyDeleteI was absolutely obsessed with the fan eyelet mini, but missed it in the sale section last year. I finally found it on eBay a few weeks ago, and am so excited to wear it! (Actually, I wore it on Friday - it's been summer weather in Atlanta for a few weeks now :) ) I also know I can always rely on my Marybeth dress (http://www.kaboodle.com/reviews/marybeth-dress) which is super cute, comfortable, and flattering. I always pull it out as soon as spring has sprung!
ReplyDeleteCrewcrazy - I ordered the double-v neck dress and I thought it was okay but that the design was underwhelming. I tried the ruched v-neck dress on in the store and I LOVE it! It is pretty similar in design except the back isn't exposed (I got a weird funky burn from a dress like that last year). Also the same elastic that is used for the waist band (I think) is also used in the v-neck part of the dress where the ruching is and I found it to be infinitely better than the double v-neck when it came to keeping the girls in check!
