Sneak Peek Into J.Crew's May Catalog

We got to see some sneak peeks into the latest catalog in the "Sneak Peek: What's to Come in May!" and the "Sneak Peek: What's to Come in May! {round 2}" posts, and now here is a bit more...

A big "thanks!" to dinagideon (in this post) who let us know that she posted several pages of the latest May Catalog from J.Crew over at her {amazing} My Superfluities... blog. Check out her "A One Day Early Sneak Peek into J. Crew's May 2010..." post to see more!

Incidentally, as many of you have mentioned, it looks like tomorrow the website will be updated with new arrivals. {yey!}

What are your thoughts on the catalog? Do you like or dislike any of the items shown? Are you excited about the website updating with new arrivals tomorrow? :)

  1. My guess is that the new rollout was coordinated specifically to follow up Jenna's appearance on Oprah. That's just how people are. After the show today, the floodgates will open and the site will probably crash. LOL

  2. Also, I would about die for that peacock-print swimsuit if it comes in a bikini version. SO PRETTY! But I already have like 11 JC suits that have never touched the water! LOL. I collect them like artwork, because they're like fine art to me ... except that this year I'm finally at a point where I can fit into them. :-)

  3. Elaine: LOL! You are so right!!! The website will probably crash after the segment with Jenna on Oprah. ;)

  4. I am loving summer dresses right now and that racerback sure is pretty! I can't wait to see some of the new pieces in person next week :)

  5. Crap! Sorry to be a boardhog, but I wanted to mention since I went out shopping for 6 hours yesterday (TEE HEE, 'mental health' day from work! woot!) that the Gap has a lovely knockoff of JC's checked shirt (?suckered gingham?)that everyone went cuckoo for cocoa puffs over. I can't recall all the colors, but I was very impressed with the quality and the shape.

I also finally found the shrunken schoolboy blazer that Gigi and others love, and WOW, y'all are right. Love! But not for $98. Web had a 20% off sale, and I get free shipping too, but somehow it came out to $84 and change ... pass. Especially when almost every reviewer said she had to size up or buy it in a Tall due to the arms being short -- so I want to go try it on again. I will wait it out a bit longer. ;-)

  6. Hmmm...maybe this means I'll get my April catalog soon =(

  7. Hi!

Alexis, I was pleased to be able to help you all out. Like I said, I was SHOCKED that I was the first one to scan images. :)

Elaine: You are going to just keel over. There is a bikini, it is a string bikini and VERY very pretty. I didn't scan that page (don't have a ton of time with the kids running around wreaking havoc with every step) but it is 58 for the top and 56 for the bottom. It is called the plume print and both top and bottom run xs-l.

I don't care for string ties, but if this came in a normal bikini bottom and a clasp back top, I would be done for. My wallet thanks J. Crew for not doing that. :)

  8. Quick question (and it's entirely likely that it's already been asked and answered)... when are the new arrivals hitting the B&Ms?

  9. i love the orchid shadow skimmer pants.

i can't wait for the update tomorrow!

  10. Aw man. String bikini might be just a little too much string and not enough bikini for this old gal. Blehhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! Ah well, I will admire it from afar! :-)

  11. Heather,

My PS told me Monday, April 26!

  12. Just got the catalogue and am paging through it now. First thought: Why go all the way to Turks & Caicos just to shoot people standing in the ocean/on the beach? Could have done that closer to home & saved on the old carbon footprint. At least when they went to Paris, it was possible to tell.

Second thought: Am intrigued by impressionist print pencil skirt, though I'd need to see the green IRL. It might be too neon for me.

  13. Oh, and most importantly: I picked up the watercolor garden pencil skirt while at the store. I *love* this skirt - just a perfect pattern of purples, a little green & white. I'll be wearing it with a white tee, denim jacket & my natural (color) sandals. I won't be wearing it with sky-high heels & piled-on jewelry, because I don't wear either, nor with fishnet socks & oxfords :-)

Mais oh la la, how I adore this skirt :-)

  14. I'm going to second dinagideon, that is one beautiful cover shot. The model looks a little like a swan with her long neck and flowing white dress. I vastly prefer this model over the model featured on last month's cover.

A surprisingly simple cover outfit for women's JC, no crazy layering, no shoes, no (visible) jewelry).

  15. Valerie-

Seriously! Still waiting on my April catalog too...what the hell?

  17. Oh, hee hee, this is too good: There is a new Collection item, "Charter skirt" - this is the description: "We gave these easy-to-wear day skirts an uptown finish with intricate design details - pockets, pleats, belt loops, waistline shirring - that make them charming & special."

I laughed just picturing myself wearing such a contraption...

  19. I still haven't received my April catalog either, and I live 90 minutes away from San Francisco. So I can't pop in and pick one up. Can someone please tell me the cost of the satin backpack from the cover.

    ReplyDelete
  20. SC, I wrote to another commenter on my blog about the backpack:

The backpack isn't silk satin, like I first thought. Dang. It is rumpled sateen with a cotton/poly/metallic sateen blend and is $138. The color is beechwood. I bet the sateen holds up better than silk satin, lol. :)

    Hope that helps.

  21. She's posing manly even in pretty pink.

  22. Stacy,

Update tomorrow? I thought everything was happening the 26th? Or is that just B&M?

    ReplyDelete
  23. What does "B&M" stand for? (Sorry if this has been asked and answered!)

    ReplyDelete
  24. Lily: It stands for "brick & mortar" store. In other words, an actual, physical retail store vs. online.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Emily- My PS confirmed that there will be an online rollout tomorrow :)

    ReplyDelete
  26. My PS said new arrivals will be online tomorrow. I'll be checking it out before I head to the office.

Thanks Dina and Alexis for sharing these preview pix. Living in Canada I get my catalog later but at least I get it. It's nice to see the catalog online but there is no text, which I like to read, sometimes over and over and over...

Dina, your daughter is so adorable in that headband! Such a cutie. :)

  27. fyi on the jersey racerback gown. I ordered it b/c I adore my dressy grecian gown from last year, but the fabric on this dress is much thinner and doesn't drape as nicely, and seems like it will wrinkle more easily. I was disappointed and am returning it. Also, for anyone with boobs, the bustline is a little on the tighter side, i would pick larger size if you are deciding between two sizes.

    ReplyDelete
  28. woohoo! thanks for the fyi about the new rollout. :)

anything anyone has their eye on in particular?

    ReplyDelete
  29. Is it just me or does that peacock print swimsuit print look exactly like the recent Target LOL print?

My PS confirmed the rollout tomorrow too. She said there would be some nice new prints in skirts and dresses. Crossing my fingers!

  30. I am waiting too for new arrivals; not planning to buy anything ( help ! ) ...I just have so much fun looking at the clothes :)

    ReplyDelete
  31. i hope your PS is right because i wasn't excited about too many of the skirts/dresses in the new catalog!

is rollout at 12am EST or 3am EST? (pathetic, I knowww!)

  32. Hey guys, I got a code for 40% one regular priced item at Banana Republic. It expires today and I thought about using but decided I didn't see anything I liked too much.
Any way, I hope someone else is able to use this: PPNG7B3D788B
Use BRSHIP100 to get free shipping on orders over $100.
    Enjoy.

  34. So many new lovely things online now! I thought I was done with J. Crew for a bit but I can't resist especially with the new rollouts. I'm really liking the Rumpled Sateen Tote, bling cardigan, and softspun cotton cardigan in all the bright colors...

I just skimmed through all the new arrivals...I need to take a breath now.

  35. I am pretty underwhelmed with most of the new clothing in the rollout. I think I was expecting 1 or 2 more printed items. I do love the surf tweed skirt & ballet flats. Other items that caught my attention: agnyss platform heels (nude), cozumel tunic (grey), tipped pocket cardi, and the bridget dress.

  36. Emily - Thanks for the code. I was able to use it on the smocked skirt. Thanks so much!

  37. just ordered the julienne and demetra heels, cotton bling (gag) cardigan, and the peacock string bikini (now if only I had time to get to the beach!)

  38. I am curious what other JCA's opinion is of the sequin tank, now that Michelle Obama was seen in it-
Is it really mainstream now? In the new arrivals, there are several new sequin tanks shown usually with shorts and a cardigan or woven shirt. Does it work for anyone else?

  39. Although I love J.Crew (and wish I could afford to shop there ALL THE TIME), I mostly look at the travel-themed catalogues for the settings. I was disappointed in May's...I don't think they took as much advantage of Turks & Caicos' gorgeous setting as they could have. Usually J.Crew is really good about that, too.

I posted other catalogue photos (and commentary) on my blog: http://bit.ly/ddbGYW
