Jenna's Picks
"Inspired by a family trip I took last year, we shot this month's catalog in Turks & Caicos. I'm still taken with the beauty and ease of island life. Here's what I'd bring if I went back."
  1. Cozumel Tunic (Item 26153; $78.00)
  2. Gladiator Sandals (Item 26415; $110.00)
  3. Double-Chained Mesh Bracelet (Item 28021; $75.00)
  4. Jeweled Jardin Jacket (Item 26115; $495.00)
  5. City Safari Pant (Item 27099; $69.50)
  6. Luxe Terry Bloomer Short (Item 26449; $45.00)
  7. Caden Leather Cork Wedges (Item 25624; $150.00)
  8. Linen Charter Skirt (Item 26135; $79.50)
  9. Linen Silk-Pocket Cardigan (Item 25772; $88.00)
  10. Coral Reef Tank (Item 26236; $110.00)
  11. Dahlia Cluster Ring (Item 27943; $58.00)
  12. Jericho Tote (Item 26082; $258.00)
The Jeweled Jardin Jacket (Item 26115; $495.00) is already sold-out! I think I read from fellow JCAs on this blog that it was practically sold out a few minutes after the website updated with new arrivals last week. Incredible!

The Luxe Terry Bloomer Shorts (Item 26449; $45.00)... I can't decide if they are cute or dated. I would love to see these in-person to find out. Although, just looking at the online images I can tell they are too short for me to wear out (but great for in-side the house).

What are your thoughts on the items selected? Do you like the color palette? Which items would have made your top picks of new arrivals that you are loving this month?

  1. LOL the Cozumel tunic- I was in Cozumel this winter and picked up a longer (but similar) tunic with a bit more colour for $20. I'll be wearing it with a wide belt over leggings.
It was a total impulse buy and I've been waiting for the weather to warm up to wear it. Finally, I hopped on a trend early ;-)

  2. I actually like most of those picks, except the bloomer shorts. They remind me of baby diapers back when people put rubber pants over cloth diapers. I can't imagine the woman who looks good in that silhouette.

  3. I like the Cozumel tunic and the cork shoes, but the BLOOMERS! My three year old refuses to wear any of the bloomers that go with her dresses or skirts as they're "baby pants." The romper and bloomer trend is so infantilizing, I don't get it at all. Little girls (and lots of us big girls) swoon over high heels, jewelry, etc, to look adult and in charge. And what does the fashion industry lay at our grown-as*ed feet? Baby clothes!

  4. IMO the collection is very blah. The only item I like at all is the city safari pants, but the leg detail would be very unflattering on my chunky legs.

  5. I like a lot of the pieces in theory. The cardigan looks lovely but it's SO thin, I can't imagine wearing it anywhere EXCEPT on an island holiday. Love the tunic and the linen pants, and I'm curious about that skirt...it's styled so high on the waist online, I wonder if I sized up and wore it lower on the hips if it would still be too short.

Those bloomer shorts are clearly only for the very slim of thigh among us. When I wear shorts, the LAST place I want the fabric to be tight is around the widest part of my thigh, thank you very much!

  6. This is one of the best set of picks even though I don't like everything. I'll bet they only had a couple sizes in the jardin jacket. I agree with everyone else about the bloomers. Those might be on final sale. I reviewed the silk linen pocket cardi in this post.

  7. The Jeweled Jardin jacket is something else! It reminds me of the Trophy Jacket that Top Shop carried last year. I am not surprised it sold out quickly.

I would love to own it, if it were less expensive. You can probably find a similar glitzy jacket at the thrift store or a vintage shop.

  8. I like Safari pants, the back pockets however look too big, it would make my butt look larger. The bloomer shorts what were they thinking? I like the french terry lux cardigan material the cardigan would make a great item to wear in the summer.

I am still finding items to order so I like this rollout.

  9. As usual Jenna's picks are not for me:(

  10. re: safari pant
after waiting a month to get the correct size (they run a little small) I loved them but they are really short (24.5 inch inseam) so they are a weird length on me. the pockets on the back are actually flattering--actually made my but seem smaller!

    re: collection jacket
it was sold out before the catalog launch--I guess it was offered up to card holders or VIPs--bummer

  11. I actually ordered the jeweled jardin jacket and I'm supposed to receive it today! I love the details on it and I was like oh well just order it and get over the obsessions and I can always return it if it doesn't work for me or too expensive for me to keep it... :)

  12. Cheesy Goodness, ITA about these strange toddler-esque trends for playsuits, bloomers, and the no-pants/diaper cover look. Rompers can be cute as a swimsuit cover-up, but last month's JC romper didn't actually cover more than would a swimsuit, so what's the point?

And infantalizing aside, very few women want to add poof in the saddlebag area!

  13. Thanks so much for the promo code! I used it to order a new wardrobe for hubby's bday. :)

  14. OT -->

Can anyone in the Ohio area tell me which JC location is better -- Polaris or Easton?

  15. I liked the Cozumel tunic until I realized how sheer it is. There is no way one can wear it without a cami underneath or some kind of cover up -- unless it's a wet t-shirt contest....

  16. I like the Cozumel tunic (can't decide on the color yet) and the Jericho collection.

ITA about those bloomer shorts... maybe it works for super skinny models who need some volume in their rear ends?

The Jardin jacket looks pretty, but wouldn't the sequins snag so easily with every move if someone was to actually wear it? When the website updated with new arrivals I think they only had about 5 of each size (0-8) and soon it was sold out.

  17. Clicquot-

I used to live in Columbus but have only been to the Easton location (last time was ~2 years ago). It's nice-sized and I always thought they had a good selection and good sale section, and I never had any complaints about SAs. And it's always nice to go in the spring/summer since Easton is outdoors! Of course, since it's been so long, a lot could have changed, but I have had good experiences there. HTH!

  18. I don't understand the appeal of the Jardin jacket--it's fragile silk, and those sequins could snag, or just fall off, I would think. And the price! I'd rather spend that kind of money on a nice, sturdy, leather jacket.

I don't like the bloomers, either. Too cutesy.

  19. Thanks, Maureen! I got the impression that Easton might be the better mall.

  20. I personally love the Jericho Tote!

  21. OT - I reviewed Banana Republic's lightweight chambray shirt. It's similar to J Crew's perfect contrast stitch shirt. I have them side-by-side in this post.

  23. Does anyone have a free shipping code? I cannot get the one RW38PZ to work. Thanks if so:)

  24. I have and love the city safari pant. As someone who doesn't have much of a bum, the pockets on the back are perfect for me! :D I am loving hte cozumel tunic and hoping to try it on this weekend. Hopefully the gray is not so sheer that it needs a cami. I like both pairs of sandals, but would need them on super sale. The ring could be really bad or really good; I'll reserve judgment until I see it IRL. As for the bloomers, what were they thinking? Do people really wear these outside of the runway?

  26. The only one of her picks I like is the Jericho tote, although I would probably purchase the Jericho hobo were I to get one. Also, almost every other item featured can be found at other retailers for less $$ right now.

  27. I'm sorry, but those bloomers are asinine. Desert flower, I remember cloth diapers and rubber pants, and yes, you are right. The model looks like she's wearing an overpriced diaper.

I love that Jericho tote, though. Very nice.

  28. I received the Cozumel tunic from last week's order. I got the grey, and it is a great top, cute, tts, etc., but the sleeves are horrible. There is this funny elasticized thing that I think is supposed to make them fit to your arms, but just made them stick up on me, leaving the impression of shoulder pads. Returning today...what a disappointment.

  29. I seem to be in a minority in that I REALLY like the look of the bloomers. I ordered them in the faded black color, so it remains to be seen whether I like them in reality or not. I fell in love with them in this picture: http://bit.ly/bjo4GC I REALLY don't like any of the other colors. Of course, I'm not as thin as the model (is anyone?!) but I do have fairly slim hips so I'm optimistic . . . if they work, I plan on wearing them with a long top and/or jacket; I think if the waistline is covered the silhouette will look fine at least for college parties or at worst to wear at home. Here's hoping!

  30. OT - does anyone have the cappy eyelet cami? Is it TTS? Appears only available online in size 4 and up. Thanks.

  31. I love the safari pant but haven't tried it on..if I can deal with the low rise, the pockets could be wonderful for rounding out my flat butt;) The gladiator is fun in that periwinkle and the jericho leather looks chewy and cool. Love the white version of the linen cardi but not sure how practical it is...maybe for my summer vacay. I like the airy, relaxed tone of some of this new roll-out (although I don't have a huge want list). I am hoping that they take it that direction as it is much more simplified than things have been for awhile. A nice change from the fussy.

BTW-I love that word..asinine. Makes me laugh out loud. Wonder what it stems from? Off to find out;)

  32. For those contemplating the safari pant, I just bought a similar slouchy cropped pant at Banana Rapublic B&M for about $30 ($49.99 less their 40% discount coupon).
    http://bananarepublic.gap.com/browse/product.do?pid=719902002&tid=brfr1r

I was skeptical about this look at first but then saw an SA wearing it with a t-shirt in the same color, long scarf and high-heel gladiators and those pants had the perfect polished yet relaxed vibe. BR's website picture doesn't do it justice. The pants are supposed to hit just above the ankle but they're too long on the model. And the back pockets on this one were very flattering because the pants are pretty fitted at the hips; I sized up one size; the shapelier SA who inspired my purchase said she sized up 2 sizes.

Anyway, thought I'd pass it along for those looking for a slouchy but lean-fitting safari pant alternative.

  33. Kris, I picked up the Cappy Eyelet Cami last week. I loooove it; probably one of my most favorite pieces so far. It looks nice alone, but it looks really amazing with cardigans, too. It also has the little snaps to hold your bra straps in place (why isn't this just a given???). I think it fits pretty TTS. The body is loose, but the top part is nicely fitted. HTH! My store had a full size run when I grabbed mine, so you could try a "we will find it."

  34. Did anyone else find the blurb about the Astria sandals weird?

"For the foot that needs a little more coverage (no judgment), we've created a broader triangular T-strap that's fresh..."

Umm. "No judgement" ???? Seriously? That sentence is fraught with judgement!! And it's not like the sandals are totally covering up the foot either. IMO you have to have a narrow foot to carry off that style. Insulting much, J Crew?

  35. Heather -

Thanks for the review - it looks like it could actually be pretty versatile, now I'm going to have to try it...

  36. Just noticed that the Cozumel Tunic has undergone a name change and is now "Flower mosaic embroidered tunic". Hmmm.
