As mentioned awhile back (refer to here), First Lady Michelle Obama (& our lovely J.Crew) is featured in Vogue's latest issue.
J.Crew updated its home page with a link (click here) to the {great} news that many of their items featured in Vogue will be available for purchase in their Fall 2009 collection and can be preordered (800-261-7422):
Cashmere Shrunken Cardigan (Item 18248; $178)
Rumpled Satin Cami (Item 18891; $78)
Blushed Tweed Pencil Skirt (Item 17446; $178)
What are your thoughts on the pieces? Do you have a favorite? Which is your least favorite? Do you plan on pre-ordering any of the items shown in the magazine? :)
rumpled satin cami! love it!
ReplyDeleteI like the skirt. I'm not sure about the cami...I'd have to see a different picture of it, and preferably without the cardi. I don't care for the way it looks in this photo.
ReplyDeleteI do not wear the rumpled look. It goes against my basic upbringing and what I have been told my employeers at work. We are to come to work pressed and professional--not rumpled.
ReplyDeleteThe price points are rather high--2 items at $178 each plus the cami! Wow!
I love Michelle Obama though:)
BY not my
ReplyDeleteI don't think the "rumpled" satin cami actually looks rumpled. It is only in the middle of the chest... more like bunching or ruching. The whole shirt isn't rumpled.
ReplyDeleteI have to say I *Love* her sense of style. & the use of color in what she wears! You never see her wear anything boring. There is always some detail to her choice of dress that makes her stand out.
ReplyDelete& the exposure she's given to J.Crew has really been fab.
if the dress is offered in petite I may consider buying it, but these tweed pencil skirts are often way too long (the green sparkle tweed pencil skirt is 25" long!!) in regular sizes.
ReplyDeletedress = skirt. it's early. :)
ReplyDeleteWow, not cheap!
ReplyDeleteI love JCrew and I love Michelle O.
ReplyDeleteHowever, I *will NOT* be buying ANYTHING with the word "shrunken" in the title. I am so tired of cropped/tight cardis! Come on, JCrew, aren't we over this??
I am over the sheer tops and cardigans c'mon J Crew give me something more substantial.
ReplyDeleteYes, I am surprised at how tight people wear tshirts and sweaters. I was reading a connected blog and someone tried to shrink their tee and thought it was still too big in the waist. I was like OMG it looks to small already.
ReplyDeleteI want/need substantial sweater that are not tight and last and do not pill after two wearings.
I don't do shrunken. I mean my whole life (I am tall) I have tried to find clothes that do not look shrunken! LOL

I have no idea why my post came up two times. I am sorry!
ReplyDeleteLove the colors & the clothes, but not buying at those prices!
ReplyDeleteI really really like the skirt (at least from what i can tell from the pic), but $178?? This would be a piece i'd wait on for a lower sale price, but with the buzz it could cause since MO wore it, it may not happen!
ReplyDeleteI love the outfit though and I love MO's style.
LOVE the skirt, but not the price! Would have to buy it on sale.
ReplyDeleteI'll definitley keep my eye on that skirt for when it goes on sale. It's gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI agree with the other posts -- LOVE the skirt. I also agree with anonymous on the shrunken/cropped cardi thing. I will not buy caridgans unless they are long-ish anymore...they just don't go well with pants that have a lower rise (i.e., almost all pants currently sold).
ReplyDeleteHi all,
ReplyDeleteYep, I agree with my fellow aficionadas-- Love the skirt, but not the price.
I think the first lady looks great in all the photos in the article. I’m guessing that some of her outfits, like the black dress, are for more formal occasions. It looks like she’s wearing the sweater & skirt set for an “at home” moment. One of those run around without looking rumpled days. That said, I think I could wear the skirt to work if I paired it with a blouse & jacket. I esp love the skirt as I’m really into classic patterns of late, herringbone, tweed, houndstooth etc. Obviously, I bought more JCrew during the fall season than the spring line. I wouldn’t be surprised to find similar items in the next fall look book.
I’ll admit that I’ve been trained to wait for items to drop in price before I’ll commit to buying. I agree that the Vogue photos may generate more interest. However, I remember seeing the Deco blouse & sweater set that Michelle wore on Letterman in the sale section not too long after her appearance. I’m guessing that JC will produce more of these items to meet demand. So I’m hoping to find it in my size at a lower price point after the first wave of interest.
Guess we’ll see soon.
Oh & P.S. if anyone’s interested, I saw about 5 of the Rose Tees at the Palo Alto Store last weekend. The phone # is 650-462-1190.
HTH,
Heather:D
Loving the skirt! I may have to use my Fall rewards towards this, as it may not make it to the sale section before selling out!
ReplyDeleteAlso, while I'm not a fan of "shrunken" cardigans, I do prefer that my sweaters have a more fitted look.... I am petite, and often I find that looser sweaters just overpower me. So for me, wearing a more fitted cardi/sweater is just more flattering....
Hi again,
ReplyDeleteSince most of us love the skirt in this look, I thought I'd mention my "What were they thinking" candidate here. Anyone else think the silk pleated skirt, item 11653, looks a little dowdy?
It seems that they had a hard time styling it on the site. Your choices are, white shirt (meh) or same fabric blouse. Honestly, I think the silk blouse & skirt outfit looks like a uniform for Caesar's Palace. The model certainly doesn't look enthused about her clothes.
Anyhow, I think I'll save my $250 for outfits more like Michelle Obama's, she looks smashing!
Happy shopping,
Heather:D
Heather! I mentioned that skirt in an earlier post for being a definite "what were they thinking" item... glad I'm not the only one who thinks so :)
ReplyDeleteHey Em,
ReplyDeleteWhew!
Good to know that I'm not overreacting.
Also, what do you think of the model on the Dresses front page. She's wearing a cute celery green dress & matching bauble bracelet. Unfortunately, she doesn't look very happy to me. It's a shame because I've seen her in other photo's that are much more flattering. Your thoughts?
H:D
Yes, I agree that seeing size mediums squeeze themselves into smalls is getting old. Embrace your medium sized selves! I mean, Queen Latifa could squeeze herself into a small too. It doesn't mean it looks good.
ReplyDeleteHaha wow... I never saw that picture of that model before. She does NOT look happy! What were they thinking? I'd like to know.
ReplyDeleteThat's the famous open mouth pose. It's supposed to look sexy. It doesn't work on all models though, it only works on certain types of mouths. That girl just looks like she bit into something that tastes bad, and is looking for the right place to spit it out.
ReplyDeleteHehe it does look like she's thinking WTH?! Whaddya mean I can't combine free shipping with 20% off?
ReplyDeleteOr it's the look of frustration because she bought that dress full price right before it went on final sale with an EXTRA20 promo.
Or she's trying to shop the final sale but site went down after the mass email and all the items in her shopping bag keep disappearing.
Hi again,
ReplyDeleteI know... Poor girl! Not a look I would like to have in my portfolio.
Actually, I think this may be the same model who ended up looking shall we say ... disheveled... in the Harriet coat a few catalogues ago during the winter season. Bi-polar photographer strikes again!
Hope y'all are having a better day than she ;}
Heather:D
I love Mama Obama! I won't be preordering any of the pieces, but I do think they are cute.
ReplyDeleteI am tempted to love the cami, but then I look in my closet. How many times can J Crew work that version of a cami/halter? Soon they may be too well known for the place where you can get an embellished top.
ReplyDeleteI think it's a very wearable look for most women. It is hard to evaluate because she is a) tall and b) sitting at an odd angle. I think the color is refreshing and you can find similar colors NOW at J.Crew and some on sale - fresh papaya, salmon and melon. If you went to a J Crew outlet you could probably do a similar look for less minus the skirt. They had a similar tweed skirt 2 years ago. Their tweeds are usually pretty special so it may be worth the splurge there. As far as rumpled or not, I think it is really personal. I live in Silicon Valley. I'm happy to see anyone dressed in something outside of a tee and jeans. =)
