J.Crew's Red Carpet Alert

"Thanks!" to many of you, including Not all anons are bad & Anon at 12:56 AM (in this post), who let us know about this latest J.Crew news (click here), which reveals: "Good Morning America picked three designers- including us- to style Robin Roberts, one of our favorite morning-show hosts, for the red carpet this weekend."

The dress is described as: "This gown is understated elegance with specially designed details, made in luxurious silk tricotine (one of our favorite fabrics for its fantastic drape and beautiful movement). Our designers created a dramatic halter, offset by a deep-V down the back and a straight skirt that skims the body and falls to the floor." The design selected is not yet available, but can be pre-ordered (call 800.261.7422). The page also includes a link (click here) to their current (for sale) dresses.
I watch Good Morning America every morning so I am very familiar with Robin Roberts. I think both the shade of orange/red and the cut of the dress will look stunning on her! :)

What are your thoughts on this dress? Do you like or dislike the design?

P.S. On the main page (click here), its states "CBS' Good Morning America" but it is suppose to be ABC. ;)

  1. I love it... looks exactly like the Gracie gown, which I tried on when it was at my TJ Maxx and I must say... it's very pretty! Description for Gracie:

"We used dreamy silk and designed a dramatic halter silhouette, offset by a deep-V down the back and a straight skirt that elegantly floats to the floor."

So I think it's just that, reworked in a different color?

  2. I agree - it will look fantastic on Robin with her slim athletic build. Do you think the dress is that persimmon color?

  3. Sounds like a lovely design. Do you think J.Crew was selected because of increased exposure of the brand thanks to Michelle Obama wearing J.Crew?

Or were they typically selected for this type of thing before?

  4. This dress would look fantastic on Robin Roberts! They are calling the color Coral...here is the link to the GMA article about it: Robin Dresses for a Night With the Academy .

Btw, that's really pathetic that J.Crew put CBS on their main page instead of ABC...

  5. FFM: You are right.

Can't JCrew get anything right??? I mean really. There are only 3 main networks and Fox...Umm...not that hard to get the network right and they cannot even do that!

  6. I think the dress looks beautiful! How very elegant!

Em is right on ... it looks like the Gracie gown.

OT question: I am wearing my Quinn silk cami today. Pure thin silk = wrinkled. :( I'm at work, any tips on how to get the wrinkles out? I don't have access to steam, any other tricks?

This cami might get designated as fun and fancy around the house if I can't wear it out. sigh.

  7. Oops, link doesn't work. Search on Gracie at JCrew.com

  8. Robin Roberts would look stunning in this gown and in the color featured! Beautiful design.

  9. If it were me, I'd pick the J.Mendel gown.

  10. I am shocked, *shocked*, to see that Jenna picked orange.

  11. Anon @9:15 - I was just about to comment on the orange! The style of the dress is just OK to me, but the color is hideous IMO.

  12. They goofed on CBS instead of putting ABC? For shame!

Aren't there J Crew corporate offices in the same building as ABC? Maybe that is why they were selected to submit a design.

Elle - You can try Downy wrinkle releaser. It's a spray. I have one in a trial size that is much smaller than this http://www.downy.com/en_US/products/wrinklereleaser.jsp. It works. You spray and then smooth the wrinkles out. I haven't tried it on silk, but I suspect it would work quite easily since it's a lightweight fabric. Esp the Quinn.

FFM - A blonde in hot pink. You rebel. *lol*

  13. I love the dress, I love Robyn, I love GMA so this is a perfect combo! IMO the J Crew dress is the best by far,

  14. FFM: Yay for your new picture! *gives FFM a one-woman standing ovation*

I would have to say the blue J.Crew gown Robin tried on (it's featured in the slideshow) makes her look like a goddess! Very ethereal.

The color of the gown featured on the front page (they've corrected their *ahem* error) does look stunning on her!

  15. gigiofca - thank you for the product tip! I will definitely get a travel size!

  16. Definitely the Gracie dress.

  17. So who is emailing JCrew's Marketing Dept. and Mr. Drexler to alert them about the CBS/ABC boo boo? They should at least offer you free shipping or a discount for catching the blooper. Obviously, they don't know about it or else they would've updated the site by now.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Yeah...I can't believe that bloop has been up now for several hours without SOMEONE at j.crew catching/changing it! Sadness!

  19. Love it. Hope it comes in black.

  20. I love it, but it doesn't seem all that original - I've seen this exact neckline on several retail gowns now, and it seems just a tad underclassed for the red carpet.

I'd wear it, but not sure it's red-carpet-worthy.

  21. I watched GMA this morning, and I assumed it was the Gracie gown. I'm confused now...are they not calling it that? Anyway, the color looks great on Robin. I think it will be the winning gown, unless ABC decides to override the public's votes to punish JC for the website snafu (that was a pretty big "dis"!).

  22. Robin's J. Crew dress was gorgeous, especially with the hot pink bag. I hope, though, that she chooses the blue Reem Acra dress. All three dresses were great, but that one was the best.

  24. Oops. No clue how the double post happened.

  25. The website finally fixed the CBS/ABC boo boo.

    ReplyDelete
  26. It's still showing up as CBS on my browser...weird!

    ReplyDelete
  27. I don't know who Robin is, but I do love the dress!

  28. FFM: Hate to be the dissenter--- that look is not for you. I agree with Ms. Lyons on this one!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Jenna is right on said... I hope you are prepared to be the most hated person on this site ever!

That said, you had the cajones to say what I have been thinking since seeing the photo this morning. FFM is so pretty in her previous photos. This picture (color?) just makes her look harsh and much older than late 30s. It might be the frosty/smudged quality of the photo doing that though.

FFM, I still love your looks and style.

    ReplyDelete
  30. My J.Crew screen STILL says CBS!

    ReplyDelete
  31. I still see CBS too... and when you click on that article that FFM so kindly posted, you can see the actual dress... which is most definitely just an orange gracie dress!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Jenna is RIGHT ON & Anon at 5:56 PM: I respectfully disagree with you. :) I think FFM looks great in that pink Victoria Cami. When I first saw it, I immediately thought "g-o-r-g-e-o-u-s"! Then my second thought went to, "I gotta get that cami!" ;)

But I guess that is what fashion is all about- we all have different takes on what looks good and doesn't. :)

  33. Off Topic but a review about the Solid Silk Chiffon Whitney Long Dress. Item # 11429 325.00

I looked around to see if anyone else had purchased this dress yet to no avail. I ordered this dress in black in the hopes of wearing it to a semi-formal masquerade ball for Mardi Gras. I paid full price and the dress arrived folded on a plastic hanger, wrapped in a plastic bag and shoved in the box. I can overlook packaging but for 325.00 I would at least like it wrapped nicely in tissue. Anyhoo this dress is a hot mess, it hangs like dish rag and is not as full as it appears on J Crew. The chiffon has an odd smell and texture, and the dress drapes strangely. Perhaps if I sent it to a dry cleaner the drape could be improved, and I would not attempt to iron this dress myself. I am 5'10 and ordered a size 8, it fits true to size, however the bust area is small and the dress is fitted with an interior strap for support in the back, but no boning or support underneath. Unless you are very small chested this dress will not work. I am a 34 C, and the extra interior strap makes it impossible to wear another type of strapless bra. The length of this dress does not work for me, not long enough for heels, too long for flats. This dress is going back to J Crew ASAP. I would not buy this dress on final clearance with 20% off and free shipping. It looks cheap and I am truly disappointed that J Crew is trying to pass this off as "stunning", the only thing stunned right now is my credit card.

  34. This is totally bizarre. On my PC at work, the J. Crew website had ABC listed down in the lower left-hand corner (where they were talking about Robin's dress). Now, here on my home PC, I see CBS. Very strange, very strange.

  35. oh no FFM! Please wear sunscreen & save your pretty face from the tropical sun! You have a very pretty smile, & it's nice to put a face to the name:)
