"Thanks!" to many of you, including kiykat, kathleen02, I dream of J Crew, Julie, Anon at 3:12 AM & Silver_Lining (in this post), who let us know that J.Crew updated its website (click here) today.
There are new arrivals for men (click here), women (click here), & the J.Crew Collection (click here). Even the "As Seen In" page (click here) got updated! (That particular page got ignored for a long time, so I am thrilled to see it updated.) With so many updates, I don't know where to go first! :)
In addition to having new arrivals for men and women, J.Crew also provided the latest catalog, entitled "America" online (click here to view). I am all for new arrivals and I can't wait to look through the new catalog!!!
What items are you most excited about and why? Which items are you surprised to see? Which items did you hope would be included?
Alexis, do you ever sleep? You're constantly updating! (Not that I'm complaining- of course I love to see a new post).
ReplyDeleteAnon at 6:55AM: LOL! Very little. I sleep very little. ;)
ReplyDeleteThe Samantha Metallic Flats are identical to a pair of Isaac Mizrahi flats I got at Target last year... except the Isaacs had leather soles... hm.
ReplyDeleteI like alot of this new stuff (especially the satin gala tote... how weird, but cool!) but am tired of all the light colors and "whisper light" materials.
Overall, much better stuff in this rollout than the earlier ones!
I am a bit disappointed once again. I don't care for all the frayed chiffon and whisper light fabrics, and the items I do like only come in colors that I cannot wear or already have some many of. I can only own so many light pewter items! Usually I am swooning and want so much and this time not one single thing! I cannot believe I just wrote that. Truly!
ReplyDeleteAlexis,
ReplyDeleteI, like you, am very excited to see the As Seen in updated! Yeah!
Haven't heard from you lately...what things are you liking from the spring line?
Annie
Alexis - I think that atomic flower necklace is going to have to be a love it or loath it item in a post. That is, is we can find anyone who loves it! Atomic (much like parachute) is probably a descriptive word you DO NOT want to see in your clothing and acccesories.
ReplyDeleteThis rollout is very boring, like other posters said there are so many pewter tops you can have. Hoping summer is better.
ReplyDeleteO/T I received the Cocktail Capris yesterday and I cannot say enough positive things about them. The fit is great and they are very flattering even with the narrow leg opening at the bottom, I ordered the navy.
Someone in an earlier post mentioned seeing a review/photos of the Melody dress on a JCA's blog, but wasn't sure which one. Does anyone know which? I'd love to know!
ReplyDeleteI hope I see some JCrew pretty next spring 2010. This year is not doing it for me. I bought lots in 2008 though and many past years....
ReplyDeleteI had such high hopes for today! a bit disappointed.
CC
I did not see anything in the new arrivals that I want to buy.
ReplyDeleteHowever...I did buy the Bistro pants from last month's rollout and I *love* them. The fit is perfect for me (I wear a tall, so sometimes my options are limited), and the material is very nice. Now if I can just keep them nicely pressed after washing...
Also from last month's rollout, I bought the library shawl collar cardi, which goes with everything, or at least I've put it with everything. Shorts, jeans, cords, trousers, etc. It's a great piece and the bland pale color makes it very versatile.
I'm also in love with the tissue boyfriend v-neck tee. I like the slouchy fit because fitted tees in hot weather just make me sweaty.
Other than that, I think I'll be waiting to make any new purchases.
Alexis - thanks for the "bring it back" topic (I like that ball skirt, too). I am glad that JC updated the "As Seen In" part of the site because I've been looking for it for months now!
I think it's pretty hilarious that if you look at the "As Seen In" from March's "Glamour," there's the J. Crew dot pencil skirt at $158, and right next to it is an almost identical skirt for $90 less. Oh, but I'm sure the fabulous quality of the J. Crew skirt more than makes up for that difference.
ReplyDeleteI placed an order this morning with a free shipping code for two items that are internet/catalog only. The cotton cricket cardigan #13525 (it just reminds me of a Ralph Lauren ad on a tenis court) and the cotton cashmere ruffle cardigan #13504. I don't know if I will keep either of them, but I want to see how the fit.
ReplyDeleteThere is nothing else that I would be interested in buying unless it was deeply discounted.
I really likt the silk Georgette pleated tank, but looking at the photo of it laid out flat, it looks really big. Sa,e with the silk double tank. Those shirts always gap under my arms. Damn you, J. Crew vanity sizing! I'm not sure about the cmabray work shirt or the Anita top. And I agree about the atomic flower necklace. As Tim Gunn would say, that's a lot of look!
ReplyDeleteShoot, I mean LIKE, SAME, and CHAMBRAY. Sorry, it's still early for me.
ReplyDeleteOoo, I LOVE the printed Erica dress....but $275 is not going to be possible anytime soon.
ReplyDeleteZoom in on the second picture of the cotton cricket cardigan. The bottom front by the buttons does not line up. Minor detail but it is something I look at when buying a garment that I want to look nice, esp. at full price and something I equate with quality. I mean it's OK for a cheapo but not JCrew in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteQuestion regarding FRESCO cardigan. Someone who has this; Does the tag inside really say DRY CLEAN. Why is a cotton sweater dry clean as it says online. Thanks for any help. I am sick of buying cardigan that area dry clean. THanks for any help:)
ReplyDeleteMust have the beaded chiffon glisse cami. I can see it under a cardi with jeans. of course I will be waiting for it to go on sale. That's the only thing i really LOVE.
ReplyDeleteI'm intrigued by the faded chambray seaside pant. Looks very 70s but with an updated twist.
ReplyDeleteIt's strange, I feel like I've developed an attachment to some of the models. I guess I just like two models specifically -- Mona Johannesson and Emanuela de Paula-- the best, and I'm a bit disappointed that they're not in the catalog.
ReplyDeleteAnon at 8:11: I own and love the fresco cardigan...I am most definitely NOT going to dry clean it. I will put in the washing machine, inside out, with cold water on my machine's delicate/hand wash option. Then I will take it out and line dry it.
ReplyDeleteThat makes me laugh that they put dry clean on the website. I mean I guess you could, but with good care, there should be no need!
When you receive the garment, if you buy it, you will see that it is not a "Dry Clean only" sort of sweater.
I wholeheartedly agree with the comments about the Cocktail capris and the bistro pants. I have the chambray cocktail in rose and the bistro in cerise. They are flattering and very comfortable.
Several items caught my eye. I like the Deco Dot Cardigan and the Cotton Cricket Cardigan, but I don't consider either a must-have at full price. The Python Clutch is interesting. I might spring for the Belle Clutch. It does have a classic elegance to it and I could see getting a lot of use out of it.
ReplyDeleteOk, the bejweled crawfish tee is freaking me out! eww :/
ReplyDeleteThere are items I like, but I will wait for sales. The superfine cotton jacket in navy is nice as is the soiree in spicy olive, but I can't afford/justify spending over $100 on a blazer right now. I like the slub silk mod floral dress, too.
I'm pleased to see some new knit dresses (I LIVE in them during the summer!) and I really like the slub cotton cottage dress. Not so sure about the dressy jersey ruffle dress. Those flaps near your boobs might be a disaster!
ReplyDeleteAlso loving the scalloped shell, which Slastena took IRL pics of over at her blog...very cute!!!
as usual, i like a lot of the cardigans.... but will wait a little while before purchasing (if ever).
ReplyDeleteI tried on and really love the Broadcloth Scalloped Shell and the Canvas Atelier jacket. I plan to get both when they go on sale. :)
ReplyDeleteI also tried on the Military jacket and beaded Zebra tee planning to possibly get them both and left the store without either one. The jacket runs really large...I was swimming in the XS, and while I understand it is meant to be slighty oversized, it was just a tad *too* oversized and not long enough for me, personally. The Zebra tee was cute, but the grey is not a good color on me without wearing it under a jacket or cardigan...wish it had been made in black, instead.
Btw...for any of the JCA's that are pregnant: the Bubble Tissue Tank will be perfect for you. :)
Thanks for the most recent update. I went to bed last night with your Paris update and woke up to your San Fran aka Americana update. What a pleasure!
ReplyDeleteThe old Paris catalogue is a wonder. Digi saved some of those pics and shared awhile ago on her blog. I'm craving for the latest catalogue! Thank you thank you thank you again!
Hmmm. Normally I would be swooning and wanting everything and memorizing every page. Just not feeling it ... an item here or there is interesting, but not at full price, and the whole gestalt is just flat for me.
ReplyDeleteFeels like I already have all of it, does anyone else feel this way?
I ordered one item yesterday with the 20% off code. Yipee for my wallet! I think I'll be ordering the short sleeve cardi Hutton has on in the newest catalog in navy a little later.
ReplyDeleteI was in the B&M recently. I actually got to see that thick shawl sweater up close. It was very very nice. I think I'll add that to my next order. Someone else reviewed it last week I believe.
ReplyDeleteDid you notice the Lauren is wearing the toothpick jeans?!!! She's 66 this year. I'm loving it!
ReplyDeleteHutton looks amazing. Hope I can rock jeans like that when I am her age!
ReplyDeleteI noticed that the orange beaded Zebra tee is in the "new arrivals" section on the website. However, in the model photos of it, the color is a very faded orange and in the photo of the tee by itself, it is a completely different shade of orange. It looks as though JCrew purposely faded (photoshopped) the color in the photos of the model, so people wouldn't be scared off by the brightness of the orange. I really resent this sort of misrepresentation of the item, and they've been doing it alot lately!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE Lauren Hutton, but I can't believe JCrew had the cajones to put her in toothpick jeans!! Wow!! I need some time to absorb this...
ReplyDeleteThe bedazzled crawfish tee seems to say "I have bedbugs". Sorry! At least they're not making a crab tee...
ReplyDeleteI was at the B&M at Easton in Columbus, Ohio on Tuesday night so I saw a few of these items in person. A lot of things were cute, but not so great that I can't wait for them to go on sale (especially since it won't be spring here for at least a month). The tissue spring flower tee was especially cute and comes in pretty colors. But the ugliest thing was the metallic silk mini. It is so short and shiny that it looks (quite frankly) like hooker gear. I almost laughed out loud when I saw it, but since I was one of only three people there, I had to contain myself.
ReplyDeleteAGree, Lauren H. looks fab! Glad they used an older model who is rockin those jeans, don't have to be matronly as we age! I love, love the Atelier jacket and frenchie trench, but, as usual gotta wait for sale.
ReplyDeleteHaven't had time to review the entire catalog, but omg, does anyone else think the modduls must have been FREEZING during the outside shots in SFO? I LOVE San Francisco, but it can be soooooooo chilly on what looks like a beautiful day. As soon as I saw the first few pix, I thought "brrrr!"
ReplyDeleteAlso: I am digging the atomic flower necklace! Since everyone else seems to think it's terrible, I guess I'll look for it to drop to $29.99 soon, and then snap it up! ;)
OMG, cute overload. I've seen at least a dozen things to lust after.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteI like the frenchie slicker, but since I have the Italian paper poplin raincoat from last spring, it's a no-go for me.
ReplyDeleteI also like the slub tees. I might snag a slub ruffle scoopneck in cantaloupe b/c I love that color!
The Augusta and Georgie shoes are gorgeous. If I got married, I'd go with the Augusta shoes. Otherwise, I don't have any practical use for them... but SO cute.
ReplyDeleteI love the Canvas Atelier Jacket, but I have no idea what color I'd get it in. I wish they had done it in black...
ReplyDeleteAnd I love the Frenchie Slicker, although I just recently bought the Twisted Cotton Trench, which I think has a similar feel. But I love the shorter length of the Frenchie.
One other wish - for J. Crew to have a better selection of special occasion dresses that aren't as bridesmaid-y. I feel as though they used to have a better selection of dresses, and with several weddings coming up, I'd love to buy something from J. Crew that I won't feel like part of the bridal party in...
I didn't see anything this time that I really wanted. There are too many ruffles and chiffon edging around the necklines of items that I might have worn otherwise. I'm looking forward to seeing their later additions although I'm glad they have added a variety of dresses, hopefully they are lined or are not see through.
ReplyDeleteWent to my B&M last night and didn't see anything that I had to have. I will probably wait for a sale.
ReplyDeleteI took a couple pics of the bedazzled tees and posted them on my blog if anyone wants to see.
Jackie I was thinking the same thing!
ReplyDeleteSo far, I'm interested in the slub cotton ripple-ruffle short sleeve tee, the cricket cardigan, and the faded chambray seaside pants.
I'm also planning on getting the cocktial capris here at some point.
OMG THE AUGUSTA FLATS AND HEELS ARE SO CUTE!! THE LITTLE BOW!!!!
ReplyDeleteMUST HAVE MUST HAVE
(Note: I never type in all Caps, so you know this is important!)
More City Fit pants, more cardigans, more drab, uninspired rehashed styles in anemic colors....sigh. Honestly, J Crew, what are you thinking? I feel like they're going the way of the Gap, which I don't even look at anymore because it's so dull. There's not a single item in this rollout that I want.
ReplyDeleteI also agree with what a poster noted the other day--that J Crew seems to be going after the twenty-somethings who like super low-rise pants and see-through tops. With all J Crew's Michelle Obama hype, do you think she would be caught dead in a pair of their City Fit pants or their low-cut see-through camis? I'm no frowzy mom jean, high-neck wearing prude, but I think you can be stylish, comfortable and sexy without exposing your ladybits or underwear to the world.
However, take a look at the Crewcuts items for girls--they are so much more interesting. Whoever is designing those pieces--send them over to the women's department!
This comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteAnother unispired roll-out imo. Of the few pieces I could be interest in, I'm HATING the color options. I can't wear gray (except the darkest of charcoal) or shell or any shade of yellow which leaves me with navy (which I like but I find bottom options limited) or tea rose. BLECH.
ReplyDeleteI like the papayas and reds, but I have enough of that in my closet.
ReplyDeleteI WANT AQUAS AND GREENS AND BLUES AS CLEAR AS THE OCEAN ON A CARRIBEAN ISLAND.
I know that is something I may find this summer, but I really want a boost in that direction now. I'm going to try the cotton interlock dress in bright pacific. I'm a short one, so this may actually be the right length on me.
has anyone seen how much the lattice pencil skirt is at B&M? i'm thinking about making a stop at my local store but may think twice if the skirt is still expensive. thanks!
ReplyDeleteThere are quite a few tops I will try on for later reference but the only things that really interest me are the superfine and soiree blazers, and the cotton bow dress.
ReplyDeleteI liked the SF pics in the catalog, had a different feel than previous spreads. But the clothes were same ole same ole. I was surprised by how much was actually in the new arrivals section. After looking at the catalog, I expeced only a few new items.
The best looks I think were in the suiting pages

ReplyDeleteI'm really loving the gala tote and augusta flats, I dunno how I'll wait for them to come on sale!
ReplyDeleteMost of the new season is pretty plain, but I am loving anything with a bright print. Especially the Slub-silk mod floral dress (item 12104) and the Beachcloth printed tunic (item 12636). The tunic is doable, but the price of the dress, at $188 is definitely not in my price range :(. Waiting for that sale...
ReplyDeleteMeredith, I totally agree! I love most of the items in the girls Crewcuts line. I wish some of the products could be made in my size!
ReplyDeleteI am 38 and I love the CITY FIT:) It fits my shape great and I don't expose anything---EVER! I also loved the hipslung jeans and still wear mine:) Been wearing this fit for over 7 years.
ReplyDeleteI hope JCrew continues with the aswesome city fit pants. Esp. at my height the city fit makes the inseam just right too.
The Augusta flats are really cute, but $160 is a little much for me. I'm also really loving the shape of the sateen gateau skirt, but I didn't see it among the new arrivals at the b&m yesterday. :(
ReplyDeleteA few things caught my eye, but not enough to pay full price.
ReplyDeleteRe: City fit.
Am I wrong, or is every pair of J.Crew shorts city fit? This really annoys me, because I can't wear city fit. It is too low. The fav fit fits perfectly.
I just bought the Deco Dot cardigan (in the blueish color, not pink) at my local b&m and love it! The print is fun and fresh.
ReplyDeleteI'm also drawn to the wide selection of slub tees with decorative necklines, but didn't purchase any. Perhaps next time!
To Anon at 12:25: I bought the lattice skirt at the Easton JC in Columbus, Ohio. They had them for $49.99 and they had plenty. They also had it in orange/ivory, which wasn't available online.
ReplyDeleteBelle Satchel in heather pink, I really love you. But you are $300. Boooooo.
ReplyDeleteI do love the color palette, I'm pale and bright colors do not work for me. But like Heather, I'm going to wait for a sale, I'm not seeing anything that I feel compelled to buy full price. I did just buy full price (well, before applying the 20% off promo code) Ann Taylor "metallic nylon trench" which is awesome ! It's hardly metallic at all, a really nice taupe color, great top stitching, and it's got a nice trim fit but some flare at the hip to give it shape.
ReplyDeleteI'm curious to see the canvas atelier jacket (13105) in person. The short sleeves could be a miss for me, though. The pique pavillion shift (14299) is also cute.
ReplyDeleteJust scored a gallery tote bag on accident!! (I've been wanting it desperately but waiting for a sale)
ReplyDeleteLong story short, I called to place an order this week but didn't go through with it as they wouldn't give me 20% off some items (they were sale but not final sale). Well, I got an email saying the order ship and I called CS to complain. To make up with it they gave me 20% off the order and free shipping!! Yipee!
Now wait, I'll see it on FS next week...
I'm pining for the Cocktail capri, Dazzling Dots pencil skirt, & sunshine bracelet. I also really love the Satin gala tote and Augusta peep toes, but I have no need for them at this point, and so will resist the urge to purchase them. :-)
ReplyDeleteThe Atelier jacket is the best of the bunch. Perfect summer evening throw on. Very pretty. Try to get past the horrendous styling with the yellow stripe sweater, and look at it on it's own.
ReplyDeleteThe Soiree blazer. Hmmm.... The yellow one is too Century 21, and the pink one screams Mary Kay rep. That leaves the slate. Pass on this one.
Frenchie slicker. Not my taste and would never wear it, but I think it's beautiful, and would great on ruffle lovers.
Cropped Matchsticks in light almond. Perfect. Super cute summer staple.
Superfine cotton pencil skirt. Expect navy to sell out. The white makes me scared to sit down anywhere outside. Nice subtle pleat detail in the back. Nice length.
Beachcloth belted tunic in white or navy. Want one. With a tank or cami could be casual daywear. Would look great with jeans.
Deauville peeptoe flats. Supercute, but I've sworn off J Crew shoes. Too painful. Will wait for reports on comfort should there be a slim hope that these could actually be used for walking around for more than 5 minutes.
Joley peeptoe heels. Beautiful, but Cole Haan does it better. Cole Haan Carma peeptoes are the gold standard.
Cotton camp hoodie. Cute. Reminds me of the late 80's early 90's when wide ribbed cotton was everywhere.
Cashmere bauble button henley. Elegant. ove the mid length sleeve. Will look tempting when it goes down to 59.99.
Deco-dot cardigan. Stolen from Boden.
Tissue spring flower tee. Love love love. THIS is the breakout star from tee offerings. Want in every color.
Overall, my wallet is relieved. Too many ruffles, but there are some winners, and the Atelier is a gem.
OT - Ann Taylor Loft has some really cute graphic tees... I purchased a few this morning. :-) I'm not digging the J.Crew graphic tees at all this time around....
ReplyDeleteVanessa the JCrew model doesn't even look good in the neutral palette on catalog pages 20/21 and 24/25.
ReplyDeleteAnon @ 1:46 PM
ReplyDeleteI need to return a couple of things tomorrow and I thought I'd trek to Polaris instead of the Easton to see if they have anything interesting there. Have you made it north to Polaris recently? Is it worth the extra 20 minutes on the road for me?
Finally scored a legit DEAL at JCREW (or least, I like to think so). Scored the last Herringbone topcoat jacket (orig $388) for $149 minus free shipping, minus 20% and minus the educator's 15%. Comes out to 100 bucks even. leader!
ReplyDeleteI was so hoping to see the Milla tank available. I'm thinking maybe it was one of those lookbook items that did not make it to production. But the zebra tee showed up eventually so I can still hope...
ReplyDeleteHi does anyone know how this skirt fits? Watercolor taffeta pencil skirt. True to size, does it run large or smaller, etc. Also, do you like how it look IRL?
ReplyDeleteAnon at 2:48pm
ReplyDeleteThat is awesome! You inspired me to send an email and ask that my student discount be applied. Hopefully it works!!
'anemic colors' definitely fits the bill. i'm dying for a bright green cardigan and some dark green pants - that feels more like spring to me than see-through greys and nudes.
ReplyDeleteI just received the Deco Dot Cardigan in seashell and it will be a good piece to have for spring and summer.
ReplyDeleteIt is machine washable, not dryclean as the on-line description shows.
I'm not too upset by the muted shades. My coloring works perfectly with pastels, however I wish they would add different pastel colors to the mix. Shell, Champagne, Light Pewter, yawn. They were nice when they first came out now it's just plain overdone.
ReplyDeletei really like the canvas atelier jacket but i already have the crocodile cocktail jacket and it looks like its the exact same, except for the print.
ReplyDeletei guess i will need to see it irl to see if it makes the cut.
The Atelier jacket is cute but not as cute as the Refined Canvas Fiona.
ReplyDeleteJust an FYI...I purchased the Ringspun ruffle short sleeve painter henley, washed and dried it per instructions and it came out of the dryer a raveling MESS! If this is one of your spring purchases don't even let it NEAR the dryer...even on LOW (which is what the care specifications are...).
ReplyDeleteAnony@2:48
ReplyDeleteThat is insane that you got 3 discounts. My online PS as well as my store PS says that is not allowed and she/he would get into trouble for that big time as that is not allowed.
Is the cashemere Persimmon color orange or pinky orange? On the back of the catalog it clearly looks orange, and on the website too, but in some of the pages it looks not orange. Also, is tropical aqua bright or not? On the cashmere page in the catalog it looks bright but almost like a bluer light spearmint. On the website it looks bright blue. Help please!
ReplyDeleteI bought the tropical aqua Jackie cardigan yesterday on FS/20%. I had also noticed that it looked like a different color entirely in the catalog than online. I called my local store and also called CS and they both verified the web color is not true--they said it is more muted and more green in real life. We'll see! I'd be interested in what other people say who have it/have seen it. If it turns out to be bright, I'll call CS and ask them to let me return it!
ReplyDeleteAny predictions on how fast the new things might go on sale? I've got my eye on a couple of jackets and am hesitant to pay full price if I will regret it next week.
ReplyDeleteThe graphic Tees are very disappointing. I know that I'm in a minority but I never liked the zebra (at least not in orange) and the flower one looks too much like the Gap's.
ReplyDeleteEverything is a little bit boring and seriously how many ruffled stuff can one possibly own? That said, I want to try on the pique pavilion dress, it looks really cute for the summer. Also, to I've already purchased the chambray seaside shorts (in store alst weekend) and they are LOVELY.
The only thing that I was really excited about is the fact that they have brought the snowball-charm necklace back and it's a little bit cheaper than in the winter (I think it's the same)...
houndlvr67, that is my fear about many of the pieces that JC has released in 2009; that they're basically un-launderable.
ReplyDeleteI love spring, and I love spring clothes, but I'm underwhelmed by most of the March offerings (which is fine, it'll probably be too cold here for most of March for spring wear). I saw a bunch of these pieces in my B&M the other day - almost every top has a strip of chiffon on it somewhere. I can't imagine most of these pieces lasting more than a season. I tried on the atelier (did you know that's an artist's studio? I didn't!) jacket and while it is adorable and TTS, one of the buttons almost popped off in my hand!
I think that a lot of the colors are brighter IRL then they are online - that zebra tee in the store looked like bright orange on a tan background, not the muted orange-pink on white as it looks in the online picture. It's kind of hard to tell what is going to arrive at your door if it's not black, navy, or white!
It's like cognitive dissonance - JC wants to advertise themselves as offering "all-American classics", but what they're producing is disposable clothing. Sure, a lot of trends are disposable (and priced accordingly), but if what they're offering is so classic, I should be able to wear the pieces more than once or twice before they look ready for the Salvation Army pile.
That being said, I'll won't be paying full price for any of the March offerings knowing how low the prices may eventually be within the next couple weeks. I love some of the shoes, but just the thought of them ending up at TJM for $19.99 is enough to pass on them at full price. C'mon JC, I know you can do better!
Tropical Aqua is a turqouise green on the blue/green side, it is not bright, it also goes with light spearmint very well. It is very similar to the aqua color JC carried in summer 2007. HTH
ReplyDeleteThe Atelier jacket looks nice from the front but from the side you can see pleats or something on the back, which they do not show. I'm thinking this will be way too swingy shaped for me.
ReplyDeleteI like the Frenchie trench and the military jacket. Other than that there is nothing I want.
I've just discovered this blog last week (I sure wish I had discovered it earlier) and am having trouble following all of the abbreviations. Could someone help me out, or Alexis, could you post a glossary? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI managed to score the double-serge skirt in persimmon after the refresh this morning, as well as the saturday pants. There is nothing i want from the new arrivals at all.
ReplyDeleteRegarding the stacked coupons from my earlier post:
ReplyDeleteI opted for the free shipping code first (purchase > $150); the exra 20% was a given (albeit, with a code) so the sales agent didn't count it against me. Thirdly, the educator's discount was just icing--possibly got lucky, but, during the post-Xmas holiday sales, the B&M's stacked the coupons all the time (i.e., 30% extra final sale + 15% educator's)...
Anon @ 2:44 PM-
ReplyDeleteI haven't been to Polaris recently, but I often think it's better than the JC at Easton. Plus, you have the added benefit of being in an enclosed mall (why they build outdoor shopping centers in Ohio, where the weather is often terrible, is beyond me). If you go to Polaris, please post a report!
The stacking code thing happened to me this morning too. I didn't ask for the teacher's discount, because I am a sub and only request that in person at stores when I can present my pay stub. However, I requested the free shipping and the SA offered me 20% off without me asking for it.
ReplyDeleteWent to a B&M at lunch today. Gray beaded zebra tee was a keeper! It is a statement piece but at least it is all graytones. Wish it was just a graphic tee (though I did get the GAP graphic zebra tee). Tried on the boyfriend military jacket even though they didn't get it in gray which is what I wanted. It runs quite large. I am usually a Jcrew 12 and a medium was fine. I am contemplating it in gray: it is not very fitted (see pic of green version on website for accurate idea of shape) but is soft and rumply and can be belted like they show on line and in earlier lookbook. I liked the fish graphic tee as it is super detailed like a line drawing rather than a cartoon. They had a sign that the Atelier jacket was on special but it was Keegans on the rack...hmmm. Didn't see a lot that excited me, not my favorite palette. For JCAs looking for sale items: they had lattice dresses reviewed by gigi's blog (didn't notice all the sizes but there was a 12) and the yellow floral silk habatoi dress. Westfield SF store.
ReplyDeleteI had to return a few things to my B&M today and got to check out some of the new items. I tried on the Atelier jacket, which is really cute on, although the sleeves feel a little short to me. I recently bought the Crocodile Cocktail jacket and it's virtually the same piece, just in a solid. That said, I didn't love the white version on, I have the refined canvas Fiona from last year in navy and the grey version it comes in is very similar to the Crocodile, so I think the Atelier is going to be a pass for me for now. Despite looking like it's a swingy shape, it's fairly slim fitting in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteI also tried on the Frenchie slicker and liked it, but didn't LOVE it as I thought I would. I recently bought the Twisted Cotton Trench, so I might hold off to see if the Frenchie goes on sale. The material is very thin and paper-y, which I actually liked, and it looked cute with or without the belt. Because some of the other jackets, like the Keagan and Twisted Cotton Trench went on special fairly quickly, I think I'll at least wait a few weeks to see if either of these goes on sale.
I also tried on the military jacket, and like FFM said, this jacket is ginormous! I tried on the small (I usually wear a 4 in jcrew jackets) and I was swimming in it.
I tried on a few other things, but again, didn't have to have anything.
They did get the Keagan in the dark grey at my store, which I ended up buying. I don't have any jackets in that color and liked it on.
I took some photos of the new items which I'll try to post on my blog a little later today...
My favorite is the cotton bow dress. It's so cute! And I feel like I could wear it to work with a cardigan or on the beach, or out for drinks, or...
ReplyDeleteI never ever buy anything full-price, but I'm pretty tempted. I can't decide between the bright papaya and the navy, though.
I also worry about the sizing of XS/S/M/L/XL things. My measurements are 35/27/37, so I'm a solid size S, right? Can someone reassure or correct me on that?
A repost:
ReplyDeleteCan someone comment on the sizing of the new(-ish) Pleated Tissue top?
I have some luxe knit stuff in XS cause that seemed to run pretty large.. how does this compare?
Hi all,
ReplyDeleteSadly, I was stuck in meetings most of the day so I missed the refresh :{
On the plus side, I got to read all of your great comments regarding the new info on the site. Thanks Alexis for pointing out all of the updates!
Also, I enjoyed paging through the “As seen in” & new catalogue links. I reaaaaallllly wish JCrew had let us bay area folks know that they were doing a photo shoot out our way. I absolutely would have made a trip to the city to watch. Even if they roped off the area for crowd control it would have been fun. Sort of like when we have an “On location” film in town hereabouts.
Ummm, so a few observations...
1 – I’m with many JCAs. Really wish there were a few more saturated colour choices in the mix. I think some of the items are cute for weekends & such, but not for work. I think the superfine cotton looks like it has some potential. However, there’s only so much navy a girl’s closet can bear. I do like work appropriate patterns like pinstripes & tweed, probably why I buy more items in fall / winter. The good news is I get a little breathing room to pay off my wild purchases. Which leads me to color suggestions.
2- Nichi, I’m with you on the desire for more colourful pieces. Have you tried the tropical aqua cashmeres yet? I sprung for a v-neck cardigan a while back during a promo & found the cut suits a petite frame well. It’s a lovely clear aqua that reminds me of sea glass. The cashmere is a softer shade that the cotton Jackie – which is also cute, just more saturated & less “Heathered”. Sorry if my descriptions are a little vague, I think casual-crew may have covered it better.
3-Megan, I agree with you. It’s hard to find things to wear as a guest of the happy couple & not the bridal party. I hope to attend an outdoor wedding this summer & I may buy either the Jayne dress, 12829, in rose or the Edie paisley jacquard dress, 12101. I’m not sure tho’. They’ve sent out “evites” for a paperless wedding & are asking for donations instead of gifts. Usually that translates into “less formal” or “cotton sundress & sandals” out hereabouts. That said, I’ve cultivated a “dressy” reputation so I just may go with whichever suits me best. Guess I should start those triceps exercises!
Anywho, Thanks again for a great read. I’m looking forward to seeing what my fellow JCAs think of the new items… Happy shopping,
Heather:D
I was so excited for the new arrivals but there is really nothing great for me. I am so over the chiffon that doesn't stand up to even hand washing. The color palette is uninspiring and like others, I already have enough pewter and can't wear the papaya, coral, orange, yellow, etc.
ReplyDeleteI found a gorgeous white/black/gray windowpane plaid pencil skirt at Club Monaco yesterday. They had quite a few interesting items but I was holding out hope for J.Crew's new releases. I will be going back to try on some of the CM stuff tomorrow. At least they had some blues.
=] Just started reading your blog - it's awesome, just so you know - and I actually have a quick question for you. I was recently surfing the J. Crew website, when my internet crashed. Annoyed, I restarted it and went to my history to get the site back up. I started clicking all of the pages I had up (putting them in different tabs) and then it told me server was forbidden. =(
ReplyDeleteI noticed like a month ago someone commented that they had a problem like this - does anyone know how to fix it?
Sorry for the long comment. =p Thanks.
I only purchased one thing this morning. I bought the deco cardigan. I loved it in the look book and was really excited to see it online. I am hoping that the subtle detail will look even better in person.
ReplyDeleteI am interested in a few things: the broadcloth scalloped shell, the cotton cashmere bouquet cardigan, the fireball charm necklace, and the augusta ballet flats. I hope the shell is at my b&m so I can try it on.
ReplyDeletemath teacher - I have seen the scalloped shell in person. It is darling. My B&M is a smaller store, they do not even sell cashmere sweaters, but had this in three colors.
ReplyDeleteWebsite has no pictures for any products right now. Its amazing.
ReplyDeleteI love Jcrew. But is it just me or is anyone else tired of ruffles?
Like a lot of you I was disappointed in this roll out. I cannot wear the pale colors and, have a $300 gift card just waiting to be spent.
ReplyDeletePlease bring color back for the Summer or, I will have to abandon JC.
I agree with the Crewcut comments, the colors and styles are adorable.
So far I am kind of "eh" on the new clothing items...but the shoes, oh the shoes...I'm in love!
ReplyDeleteI caved and bought the Faille Maisey Jacket, which is currently $98.00. But it's not being featured as one of those items under $100. I have bought way too much with the 20% discount, plus my 15% educator discount, which I don't apply online through CS, but instead at the store. Gives me a chance to lose more money.
ReplyDeleteI must try not to buy anything for a month. I have way too much that I haven't even worn.

I'm in love with their new shoes! So gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteI normally like a lot of the items, but only found 4 that I truly love in this rollout:
ReplyDelete1)Magdalene strappy heels
2)Slub-silk mod floral dress (same design as the gladiola dress, which was fab)
3)Canvas atelier jacket
4)Cotton-cashmere ruffle cardigan
I will probably order the shoes and the cardi at full price and wait for a sale for the rest.
-South Bay Addict
managed to snag 3 pairs of saturday pants tonight for $39.60 each. $30 off the original price for the solids and $40 off the original price for the striped, not bad at all. it better keep me happy for a while because there is nothing new on my wishlist.
ReplyDeleteunderwhelmed with the rollout but LOOOOOVE the new location catalog. So pretty to see San Francisco in the background, and the other non-SF locations are very artsy too. Liking the pairing of pewter and the light greens.
ReplyDeleteSince it seems JCrew is NOT willing to offer cardholders free shipping how about this!
ReplyDelete1/2 price shipping for cardholders.
I know of a few places that offer this as a promotion so maybe JCrew would consider this! There have been about 5 times this month that I would have ordered but I refuse to pay their shipping prices b/c I can go elsewhere for free!
The persimmon cords I ordered last year are a very tomato red. They actually match the stadium coat that is very red but has a different name for the color. I am not a red lover but I actually love these two items to death.
ReplyDeleteSo has anyone washed or dry cleaned the Clara Cardi yet? If so how did it turn out?
ReplyDeleteSo excited about the new arrivals being online finally! I am really liking a lot of the stuff too - esp. the short trench with the cool collar (can't think of name right now) and the tees with the detailing.
ReplyDeleteI bought the lattice skirt on Monday in the orange color for 29.99 then minus my student discount. The brown color was not on sale. Hope that helps!
ReplyDeleteAnonymous @ 4:57 (Feb. 26):
ReplyDeleteI thought I'd help you out with some JCA lingo! Here are the abbreviations I've noticed used the most:
JCAs = J.Crew Aficionadas
O/T = off topic
B&M = brick and mortar store (as in the actual store as opposed to online)
F/S = free shipping
TIA = thanks in advance
HTH = hope that helps
DH = dear husband
IRL = in real life
TTF = true to fit
FS = final sale
Those are the only ones I can think of right now, enjoy the blog!
or maybe TTF is supposed to be TTS (true to size)? I forget. =/
ReplyDeleteThe new America catalog is beautiful. Love the San Fran pics (I'm from CA and most of the JCrew shoots seem to take place on the E. Coast so appreciated W. Coast representation.)
ReplyDeletetoast--thanks very much for the translations! They are very helpful.
ReplyDeleteHow patriotic. America!
ReplyDeletewow thanks for those translations,
ReplyDeleteI think I usually skip over these abreevs, but now I can actually understand.
now about those new arrivals,
LOVE them
I want that tie metallic dress
Has anyone tried on the silk pleated skirt? It looks gorgeous and very old-school preppy, but I'm a little worried about the fit and length.
