J.Crew Email: Up to 30% off select pants (find the perfect pair)

"Thanks!" to many of you, including tld51371 & 30% off pants (in this post), as well as Rhea and Marietta, who let us know about J.Crew's most recent promotion.

Right now, J.Crew is offering up to 30% off select pants for men (click here), women (click here), and kids (click here for boys & here for girls). It is unclear how long the offer will last.

I believe the image above showcases the Café Capri (Item 10492; was $79.50, select colors $39.99) in Seaside Green. I love capris, and the pair on the model looks amazing on her. Unfortunately I do not think this particular pair would work for me and my pear figure. :(

Will you be taking advantage of this offer? Have you already purchased pants using the additional savings? If so, please share! :) What are your thoughts on the Capris in the image (do you like or dislike; does it work for your figure)?

  1. I don't love the fit of J.Crew's pants. I prefer Theory from sample sale or outlet.

OT, but did anyone see the nail polish featured in "Jenna's Picks" IRL? I did, and it was just awful! Much more fluorescent orange than it looks on the website.

  2. I was really excited when I got this email, but all the price reductions are the same as the promos that have been going on for the past week or so... Bummer.

I love J-crew Pants (pretty much the only pants I wear) and really was hoping the Bistro pants would be on sale!

  3. Has anyone posted about the interview with Ikram Goldman on HuffPo today? The interviewer asked her about J. Crew and she says it's great. (Goldman is Michelle Obama's "stylist" for lack of a better word)

  4. I was hoping that the Cocktail capris went on sale so I could get a price adjustment oh well.

J Crew are the only capris that fit me well.

    ReplyDelete
  5. I love JCrew pants and mainly wear only theirs...however, I only buy mine on super sale. The sale prices on these plus shipping costs will not get me to buy any...will wait. Plus, I have plenty to wear right now and don't NEED:)

  6. I may take advantage of this promo this weekend on some saturday pants or other regular length chinos - horray!

I have a couple pairs of the cafe capris and find the fit to be not that great for my pear shape. Gapping at the back of the waist when it fits in the rear and legs. Hopefully with something with a more relaxed leg it will sit a bit lower on my waist and fit better overall.

  7. I was also hoping the Bistro pants would be on sale, I'd like to get another pair in a different color. My husband loves the rip-stop cargos for working in the yard but they aren't on sale either.

    Maybe next time J.Crew...

  8. I so desperately was hoping that the cocktail capris would be included. J. Crew--I will buy many more pairs if they go on sale. I (heart) your cocktail capris. I will even buy them in the next size down because I still have some baby weight to lose and would love to own these when that happens!

I wonder how the Bistro pants fit. They look very nice on Lauren Hutton in the catalog!

  10. I got a pair of the cafe capris in white (boring, but I need them!) and now I'm kind of wishing I got the green pictured on the model... I like it!

  11. dinagideon the Bistro pants fit wonderfully. They are low-rise with stretch so very comfortable. The flare is just right IMO, very flattering. I have them in black and love them. Would like to get them in stone as well, hopefully on sale.

  12. anon at 2:55: thank you! sounds like another sale purchase for me. funny how the two pants most beloved right now (in the spring collection) are also the only ones not on sale. smart move, j. crew! :)

  13. Haven't most of these pants been on promo all week? I love when Jcrew sends emails "updating" us on things we already know - like promo pants or hey, final sale is going on!

I do plan on stocking up on Saturday pants once the price is a little lower though.

  14. i picked up the bistro pants in the cerise color a couple weeks ago in store when they were on promo and they were only $70. i haven't been to a b&m since, but it might be worth calling about.

side note: what should i wear with these pants? the cerise is *bright* and i feel like wearing it with white is boring.

  15. Hey everyone, I don't know if anyone has noticed but SHOPBOP has collaborated with Madewell, and there are some Madewell jeans available on shopbop.com. I am so excited because I can finally get Madewell online!

  16. I love the legs of the cafe capris but I hate how they bunch up across the front. Around the zipper, you can even see it on the model in the post pic. It's not very noticeable in the dark colors but it is keeping me from buying these in khaki, pink, or aqua.
Does the bunching look weird to anyone else or am I just paranoid?
I have to try the cocktail capri, maybe those will be better

    ReplyDelete
  17. Do you mean like a pants tent? Boner pants? That's the worst.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Um no, that would be unforgivable lol.
They crease across the front, from the zipper out to the hips. See the pic Alexis posted

  19. Does anyone know if they ever have or ever will carry the favorite fit chinos in a 00? I'm skinny, but I haven't been a 00 since I was about 14! And since their sizes are so freakin' huge, the 00 is the only size that fits me. I know the bootcut cords came in 00 this year...do any of their other pants? Thanks, ladies!

  20. Shannon: The leg is not as slim on the Cocktail Capri, so maybe there will be less pulling.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Shannon: I took another look at the picture and made it bigger, the pants do not fit the model in the rise, it is pulling on her.

    ReplyDelete
  22. You think the rise is too short? My capris are petite, so maybe that is the problem..

    ReplyDelete
  23. Shannon: I am sure the rise is too short on those pants. I am only 5.4 and usually wear petites with the exception of J Crew, which I take a regular especially in the City Fit.

  24. OT - can we have a post about JC formal dresses (likes/dislikes/fits/fabrics)? I'm a bridesmaid in my sister's wedding this fall and am looking at the JC options both online and on eBay. I'd love to hear JCA input on the different styles.

    ReplyDelete
  25. silver lining: I have the Juliet dress in black and it is a great, great little cocktail dress. High quality and I definitely am going to pick those or the cotton cady dresses for my bridesmaids (whenever I get married).

I bought it for a formal and have worn it several other times as well! But I think a thread on the Wedding line would definitely be beneficial!

    ReplyDelete
  26. silver lining, it's funny you just posted about bridesmaid dresses. i had a link i wanted to share from wedding blog Style Me Pretty featuring JC dresses. http://www.stylemepretty.com/page/17/

my only complaint with their dresses is that they only go up to a size 16. i had always dreamed of doing JC bridesmaid dresses for my wedding, but one of my BMs needed an 18, so we went with Priscilla of Boston instead. so sad, but i couldn't bare to hurt her feelings.

is your sister set on just one dress or is she open to same color/fabric and letting you pick the style? in my opinion, letting you pick the dress is the way to go. part of why you'd go with a JC dress is because you'll wear it again, but only if it's a dress you like and feel good in. letting everyone pick the style that flatters them best will ensure that everyone's happy.

  27. Those who find the rise on the Cafe Capri too short may prefer the Cocktail Capri, as it has a longer rise. I know because though I'm fairly tall (5'8"), I'm short waisted and am having the opposite problem - too long a rise on the Cocktail Capris, whereas the Cafe Capris are the only capris that work! That said, if it weren't for the issues with the rise, I do like the easier fit of the leg on the Cocktail Capri better.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I purchased the Cafe Capri and am so trying to love them! But I agree about the rise, I don't think I can live with it. They do look just like the model -- bunching across the front. But it's the low rise and gap in the back that isn't working for me.

I'm going to take your suggestions and try the Cocktail Capri. If they're better, the Cafe Capri's are definitely going back.

  29. Speaking of pants, I just received new City Fit Surplus chinos-they fit well but will NOT fit if they shrink at all in the wash-does anyone have experience with washing J Crew chinos? Do they shrink? Tia!

    ReplyDelete
  30. I have the cafe capris from last year and they don't have the bunching/pulling effect on the front. Is it a case of a slight change in style or perhaps a cost-cutting modification that affected the fit? Haven't tried a pair this year so I'm not sure if it's me or the pants.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I absolutely love J.Crew pants, but with the price points still pretty high IMO, I don't think just 30% off is going to be enough for me. I'm still holding my breath for another TURKEY or HOHOHO :)

    ReplyDelete
  32. I have to agree with Bekah. I would love another TURKEY. Oops, better not say that too loud, my ex-BF may think I'm telling him to come back. LOL

    ReplyDelete
  33. Ceecee - I don't have those exact pants, but I have many other J.Crew chinos and yes they do shrink. In fact, mine are usually a tad too big so I will shrink them using warm/hot water the first day I get them and then they fit perfectly. After that I wash them in cold water and hang dry (which I would recommend that you always do to keep them their current size).

    ReplyDelete
  34. Further to yesterday's post re: Harper Cashmere sweater: it is horrible! I just received mine and found the original critique to be spot on. The sweater is not fitted as it appears on the website, and the pleats are long & askew! The pleat on the right side of my sweater is about 3 inches longer than that on the right! No wonder there are so many of these left!

    ReplyDelete
  35. I have a number of cafe capris from last year and one pair from this year. There is no difference that I can see and they are the only J. Crew pant that has ever fit me well. If you are worried about fit or shrinking when buying a pair of pants with lycra/spandex, you should almost always resist the urge to size up. They will stretch out through each and every wear and become unflattering over time. I always wash things like my chinos and jackies inside out and then put in the dryer for no more than 15 minutes. This gets out the wrinkles and softens the clothes more than just hanging out of the washer. Then hang to dry. No ironing needed and they have lasted beautifully. My mom owned a laund-ro-mat and taught me that trick.

  37. I want to take advantage of this offer, but café capri in warm blush didn’t work on me:(( Does anyone have Mahali-dot café capri? I may purchase this one.

OT – I preordered the skirt which was supposed to be available in March (#11804 Dazzling-dots pencil skirt) and received the item yesterday. J.Crew preorder system seems to work well this time.

  38. OT - Can anyone comment on the fit of the molten mettalic tank? I think it'll be a nice layering piece in spring and great on its own in the summer. Does it fit TTS? The description says it's fitted but it looks slouchy/drapey (in a good way) on the model.

I wear a 2 in woven tops, but size up to a Medium in ringspun & perfect fit tees because I don't like too snug a fit.

Also, what does the fabric feel like? I passed on the Zoey tanks because they felt a little too "crisp" against my skin. I'm hoping these molten metallic tanks are softer.

  39. I swear by the cafe capris!! When they first came out the sizing was odd (or my 30lbs weight gain wasn't agreeing with them...). I've since lost that weight and they are perfect! I own a few pairs from every season so far and the bistro pant fits like a full length version (with a wider leg opening, of course). I do tend to size down, however. I started out buying my own size but they do stretch to an unflattering size bigger, and no washer/dryer shrinkage would help that. H2H!!

    ReplyDelete
  40. I have the bistro pants and love the fit. I don't have the cafe capris but maybe I should try them. I'm not crazy about most capris because the hem falls in an odd way on me and I don't like it. I have slim calves and ridiculously skinny ankles and I just don't look good with capris. I found one pair that had a notch in the side seam so ran very snug on the bottom, which worked.

If I wrap my thumb and middle finger around my ankle the two are 1/4 from touching, that's how skinny they are. Looks great with skirts and shorts, but every pair of capris save one seem to flare out because of my skinny ankles and it just looks funny.

  41. What is it with J.Crew offering wool suiting trousers with no lining? No wonder they are on FS.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Georgia Girl - I don't know which is worse, no lining on wool pants or the acetate lining that goes whoosh-whoosh when you move.

  43. J Crew is taunting us again. The site has been updated but nothing is actually there just like last Saturday.

    ReplyDelete
  44. KBear do you remember if the stuff was available on Sunday or Monday then? There's a few things that popped up that I really want. Of course. Sure it's the same for a lot of us.

    Why J.Crew? Why???

    :(

    ReplyDelete
  45. FYI for those who do not want unlined wool pants. Favorite-fit chalk-stripe university pant item 97014 is not lined. It doesn't mention a lining or lack of one in the product description but I just returned a pair for that reason so "buyer beware".

  46. Most things became available on Sunday after the Shhh promotion ended.

  47. Thanks KBear. I will check in again tomorrow. Time to back away from the computer and get outside today.

  48. I just ordered the solid pleated halter dress in champagne. It's not yet arrived, so I have no idea what the color actually looks like. Does anyone know what color shoes (aside from black) would look good with this dress?

    ReplyDelete
  49. This is off topic, but I was perusing some of the related blogs and someone was talking about an order they received from Martin and Osa.
I clicked on their website and let me tell you I was very pleased I did.
They have some of the cutest things. Their jeans look great and their sales are better!
They had a really cute cashmere v-neck cardi for $59.95!
Martin and Osa seems like a great alternative to J.Crew.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Anon 1:11,
Thanks for mentioning M & O. They have some cute stuff! I had no idea it was part of the AE family. :)

    ReplyDelete
  51. Anon @ 1:10 gigiofca has a review and IRL photos of the silk halter dress in champagne. She is wearing it with gold heels so you can at least compare how those would look. Hard to tell in any photograph how true to life the color will be as it can depend on your computer settings as well.

    ReplyDelete
  52. I love the city-fit surplus chinos, especially the GOLDEN CYPRESS & DARK FOG colors! They are $45 now.

However, the JCREW cloth size has been confusing for me lately. I usually wear size 2 or S, but now I need to order different sizes (e.g., size 0 or x-small, b/w regular and petite). Still, sometimes size 2 is too loose and size 0 is too snug. Kind of frustrating.

Does anyone have a similar issue about the sizing for J.Crew's pants?

    ReplyDelete
  53. Anon 1:11, I agree with you about Martin & Osa. It's also nice to shop on a site that does not play the restock game like J Crew.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Thanks, anon @ 1:52, for the tip on the halter dress. I'll definitely check it out.

    ReplyDelete
  55. I'm with you on the fluctuating sizes. I used to wear a 6 consistently. Now it's usually a 4 but occasionally I need to go back up to a 6. Makes it hard to buy those online only items.

    ReplyDelete
  56. I find Martin and Osa a bit dull. Nothing grabs me.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Hey everyone...just wondering how the lucie kitten heels run. I wear a 6.5 in the lulu's and a 7 in the juliets and a 6 in the driving mocs. Any info would be greatly appreciated as I am trying to purchase a pair! Thanks so much!

  58. I don't wear pants because they get stuck in my bum crack. Leggins are ok.

  59. OT--

Hi ladies, I was wondering, has anybody else been somewhat frustrated lately with the fit of J. Crew's dresses? I love the style of so many of the dresses, but the cut seems very wonky to me.

I have your basic size 4/6 hourglass figure, slightly wider around the hips than the bust. I'm 5'4" so I'm close to average height for American women. However, I think J. Crew expects me to be a 5'10" track star! Every dress with any kind of shape to the waist/skirt (i.e. not an A-line) is waaay too tight through the hips, because the waist and back darts are set too high.

The first time I encountered this problem (with the brush-stroke silk sheath dress from last summer), I thought it was just a manufacturing defect. However, since then, I've noticed this "defect" in just about every dress

I was just looking at the cotton slub-silk lattice dress (item 12945) that's now on FS for $99.99, and it looks like the model is having the same kind of fit issues! You can tell by the way her hand is strategically placed to hide the places where the fabric would pull around the hips.

    Alexis--

This might be a good subject for a post! I remember that the post about the fit of J. Crew's coats yielded some good information and discussion. :) I would love to know what other JCA's think of the dress fits.

    ReplyDelete
  60. The fact that the darts are too high are actually worse if you are tall... I'm 5'10" and always have this problem with their dresses. Very annoying.

    ReplyDelete
  61. I'm desperate to hear someone's review of the Melody slub cotton and silk dress! I have been obssessed with it ever since I first laid eyes on it in the spring catalog but am waiting for a %off sale or other promotion before I order it...probably in all 3 colors, hehe :/

Anyone ordered it yet? Or does anyone share my obssession? TIA!

    ReplyDelete
  62. Becca - I have the same problem with the weird placement of the darting, but I just blamed it on MY not being tall enough! I guess not?

OT - I ordered the cluster ring in black today! I tried it on at the B&M store and LOVED IT but they only had the display one in and it was too small (I tried it on my ring finger, but want one for my middle). They just got it into the store this week because I checked last week and it wasn't there. It sold out so quickly! Good thing for the red phone + free shipping!

    ReplyDelete
  63. I have the Claire pants in bright persimmon and white. They are similar to the cocktail capris except the inseam is 28", making the Claires perfect ankle pants.

When I first wore them, they were loose and I debated whether I should have sized down (I'm a size 6). But after I washed them and put them in the dryer, they fit great. I wear them with an oxford shirt or a tunic blouse. I am 5'10" and have a slim figure. The pants look great with heels, but during the week I wear them with my Lulu flats (I'm a teacher... heels in classroom + occasional clumsiness = danger). They're still cute, but you don't get the WOW! factor.

I recently ordered the City-Fit Super 120's Trouser (they were on sale a week and a half ago) but I haven't gotten them yet. They shipped out today. I've been looking for nice navy blue pants for awhile. I hope they work out!

    ReplyDelete
  64. I love the cafe capris, and find another one in travestere print at the outlet today. I also ordered the cocktail capri and have to size down to a petite to get the right fit and length.

OT - someone was looking for the cloud necklace? I held one under "Jessie" (the rep thought I said Jessie when I was trying to say JCA). It's at the Century City, CA location (310)286-7595. There is no additional promotion though right now so it's $99.99

  65. I got the boyfriend pants in gray last week and have barely taken them off since! They are sooo comfortable, and cute! I've been wearing them pegged with flats, and once with heels and while the heels are a bit of a stretch I think it's a fun, edgy look. I'm a 10 and I was afraid the loose pant look wouldn't work for me, but it really does, I think (which means it can work for everyone!). Anyway I'm definitely going to get the khaki color as soon as they go on sale. Too cute and comfy to pass up!

    ReplyDelete
  66. Alee, I agree - I got the boyfriend chinos with my rewards card and like them a lot. I found the rise on my regular size to be just a teensy bit short, so I sized up and find them to be just fine. They say "classic fit" in the tag, not city fit like the website says. I'd say they fit more like a favorite fit in the rise.

    ReplyDelete
  67. I've ONLY bought City Fit over the last few years...in jeans, khakis, capris. What fit do all of you prefer?

    ReplyDelete
  68. Alee and silver_lining: I am also a fan of the boyfriend chinos. I tried them on at my B&M a few weeks ago and think they are fantastic! I plan to get them when the price goes down a bit. :)

I also love the Saturday pants and the Bistro pants...the Cafe' Capris do not work for me at all, unfortunately.

    ReplyDelete
  69. I agree on the boyfriend chinos, so comfortable I could sleep in them. I wish they came in a size 00 though - then they would be perfect.

    ReplyDelete
  70. It's funny, 'cause my husband used to wear JC years ago and has a pair of honey brown khakis that look just like the boyfriend chinos - he's probably had them for about 10 years and they're fraying around the pockets and such. I wish I could wear them!

Monogramgirl, I definitely prefer the City Fit. I always have to size up in the Favorite Fit, otherwise they feel too short in the rise, and then the rest of the pant usually feels too big.

    ReplyDelete
  71. OT, but has anyone tried washing the Daisy eyelet mini? I just received mine and it's such a cute skirt, but it's labeled as "Dry Clean Only," which would be such a hassle.

    ReplyDelete
  72. I just bought a pair of favorite fit super 120s suiting pants (coal). I am between two JC sizes and sized up... they are big in the waist but I was afraid the smaller size would be too small elsewhere. They are also too big in the "front rise" (?) and that general area- just a weird fit for me. I bought these as my "fat suit pants" because the same size/color in the city fit is a little snug. So the verdict is that the "favorite fit" is my least favorite fit, and I don't plan to order it again.

    ReplyDelete
  73. I also find favorite fit to be a little high in the rise for me. I prefer city fit but did purchase the academy and university pants in favorite fit this winter. I find the academy a little lower than the university, which has quite a high rise and can be uncomfortable if I have to sit too long. I really hope that we are not going to see a return of the high rise waist for all pants. Uncomfortable and unflattering for me.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Anon@ 1:10PM - I reviewed the solid pleated halter dress in my blog.

    http://gigisgoneshopping.blogspot.com/2009/02/j-crew-silk-twill-pleated-halter-dress.html

I will probably end up with a shoe close to my skin tone, or a strappy gold shoe. It will depend on the jewelry I wear.

    ReplyDelete
  75. I was just at the B&M in Philly and tried on the Saturday Pants (Chinos) and City Cafe Cropped Pants. I love the way both of them fit, the material is so smooth and nice! The City Cafe pants weren't on sale so I'll be watching the prices on them. The Saturday pants were $10 off so I purchased a pair.

    ReplyDelete
  76. I Love J.Crew.....I HATE capris. I spend my shopping life searching for pants that are long enough for my 5"10" body. I can't bring myself to actually buy short pants on purpose - only other tall women who've been forced to wear "flood pants" will understand this. Its a good thing J.Crew has pants with longer inseams, however, they need to sell them in the stores, not just on-line.
    Love Ya!
