"Thank you!" to AppGal who shared with us her great review of this shirt (plus several real-life images) over at her blog (click here to view her original post):

I got my Cherry Blossom tee this morning. I was shocked that FedEx delivered it on a Saturday, but was thrilled to get it unexpectedly! Of course I immediately tried it on, and oh my, I love it SO much! :)

It is such a wonderful material--soft to the touch but it is not see-through at all. It's the "ringspun" material, but it reminds me somewhat of the painter tee, only not as sheer. It's pretty thick.

As far as the size goes, I usually wear a small in j.crew tees, and this small was a perfect fit for me. The color is a little lighter than I was expecting, more light beige than brown, but I really like it.

Not sure if you can tell in the photos, but the flowers are slightly darker than the cardigan I wore with it (the city tee grosgrain cardi) but I still think it looked cute. Perhaps a pewter cardi would look a little better? Here are some pictures--excuse the mess on my husband's dresser and the trash bag in the background...yes, those are bags of clothes that have just been cleaned out of my closet...to make room for new stuff of course:)

Overall, I'm very happy with this tee; even though I paid full price, I think it's worth it. I'll get a lot of wear out of this. Here's the best part: I had this shipped from my nearest b&m, and not only was I able to apply my teacher discount, but they also didn't charge me shipping. How did that happen? No complaining here!

"Thanks!" again to AppGal for her great review!

I saw this shirt (in-person) and it is v-e-r-y pretty. It definitely has a sweet, delicate, almost Anthropologie look to it. After reading this review, I am definitely trying it on the next time I am visiting one of their stores! :)

What are your thoughts on the Sun Bleached Appliqué {Cherry Blossom} Tee (do you like/dislike the embroidered silk appliqué)? Are you considering or already have purchased this tee? Have you seen this tee in person? If so, please share with us your reviews too! :)

  1. Eh, I actually purchased this shirt last week but it is in my pile of returns to J Crew. I just don't love it, something about the cherry blossoms just aren't right for me...once I put it on they kinda looked like fungus all over the shirt. Sorry ladies! I still think it's really cute, just not for me.

  2. It looks great on you, AppGal! Thanks for the review!

  3. I agree, the shirt looks great! I love it but am afraid it will just wash me out as I'm really fair skinned with dark hair. Better luck for me next time!

  4. I like the design of this! I would definitely like to try this one on in person though before making any final judgements.

  5. It looks like the flowers will fray around the edges after a few wash.

  6. I think the color is dull and washes most complextions out. I don't think it is cute at all in person. Looks like a cheapo tee from Wal-mart.

  7. I really like it, but am hung up on the price. I would rather pay $35-40. I did buy it, though.

I'm holding on to it and may or may not keep it.

I do like the rosette tee better.

  8. I think it is cute, but I can live without it for now because of the current price.

  9. Thank you for the review AppGal! I think the tee looks beautiful on you, too! This tee is on my wishlist...I think it's really cute. :)

  10. AppGal, thank you for the review and IRL photos. It is a lovely tee and looks fab on you. The colors won't work for me so I will have to pass, I have plenty of pretty neutrals already. I'd consider the light celery shade if I wore green, but it does nothing for my pale complexion.

  11. Love it! It's my favorite new spring item. I also bought the pewter jackie cardigan and it goes great with it. Almost any color cardigan looks great with it. As far as washing you out, I've found that with a little bit of lip gloss, anything goes.

  12. Alexis: YES! It DOES look Anthropologie-esque! I hadn't even thought of it that way :)

Thanks for the feedback, ladies. I agree the color looks like it would be too light for some pale-skinned women, but it actually didn't wash me out as much as I thought it would (and, as you can see from my pics, I am P-A-L-E!) The washing out effect is also decreased when you use a cardi over it.

  13. I too love this tee but will wait for a sale! Thanks for the post.

  14. I bought this tee on Saturday. It was the one item from the latest arrivals that I just could not wait to own. Very cute.

  15. I hadn't thought much of this shirt until I saw someone's polyvore last night. I wish I could remember who, but they paired the tee with a Jackie cardigan in peacock. The color combination was stunning and now I want it! Great review!

  17. It looked nice in the store. Just didn't 'wow' me enough to buy it.

  18. I own this tee already & am loving it! Looks great on you as well! Thanks for the review.

  19. I think this tee looks great on AppGal!

This tee is on my final sale wish list. I decided to get the ringspun rose tee in shell last week so I will have to wait for this one to go on sale.

As far as the pale colors washing me out, I plan on layering the tees with a brighter/ darker Jackie to add contrast. Hopefully, this will help me from looking washed out.

  20. Oh, how I wish this came in a different color! The neutral color washes me away into nothingness. I love the look, but it won't work for me. Darn!

  21. I tried this on last week and felt that the color didn't do it for me. I think its also one of those shirts that women "get" but guys don't (aka the Sarah Jessica Parker syndrome.) I could definitely imagine my husband asking me what spilled down the front of my shirt!

  22. Tried it on, thought it was cute, but it did nothing for my complexion. I'm redheaded and have a very fair complexion, so it washed me out. Good for the ladies who can wear it!

  23. Joyce-that might be me.
Appgal-thanks for the review, the tee looks great on you! I didn't feel that it was a must have when I tried it on but since I made the polyvore set with the blue cardi, I want it! Do you think the Fresh mint cashmere or aqua jackie would work with it irl?

  24. I don't care for the brown/beige color in the store, but online there's also a light celery color, so I am going to give it a try.

  26. Shannon: I think either of those cardi colors would be absolutely GORGEOUS with the tee! How do I look at your polyvore set?

  29. $45 for a "meh" t-shirt?
I don't think so. I'll put that $$ into my investment account, not waste it. Shocked that people pay this much for a t-shirt that cost $2 to make & isn't that special at all!

    ReplyDelete
  30. If the tee doesn't look good on my (i.e washes me out) for the high ticket price I would not buy it. I am not going to pay full price for something I have to cover up with a cardigan to make it look right!

And isn't the whole point the cherry blossoms that you want to show not cover up?

    ReplyDelete
  31. Yes, it did cost $2 to make that I know for sure...$3 at the very most (family member in the garment industry) Most items are $2, $3 or $4 to make. Then the tag gets sewn in and the mark up happens....

    ReplyDelete
  32. Thanks, Shannon...I really like those colors. I'm thinking the fresh mint color would be the way to go. Too bad I don't have anything of that color to try! :)

  33. Love it! Bought it full price...fits well and even with larger bust (rare for most J.Crew tees) Great idea about the pairing with Jackie cardigan for "boost" of color pop! I'm on it. Thanks!

  34. Bought it full price -- couldn't wait. Love the fabric. It is a lot thicker than the fall embellished t-shirts. Also bought the chiffon rosette t-shirt in natural. Different neckline on that one, but very pretty. I think both tees are versatile because I can wear with a cardigan now. Great layering piece.

  35. I bought this Tee to see how the flowers are attached to the it so I can duplicate the look. I am going to buy a Tshirt in the color I like and then attach the flowers. After seeing this Tshirt IRL I must say it is not worth $50. The chiffon rosette t-shirt may be worth it because of all the work workers put into attaching the chiffon to make pretty roses. The chiffon rosette t-shirt is much more impressive than the cherry blossom Tee.

  36. I like this tee more than the Rose one, however the color concerns me it will wash me out.

    ReplyDelete
  37. OT: But I just wanted to vent about the markup on J Crew stuff on eBay! Egads! Are people for real? Who out there is buying this stuff for 200% times the original or current selling price?!?!?

    ReplyDelete
  38. I am returning the cherry blossom teel because it just doesnt look right to me. I am keeping the chiffon rosette tee. I adore it! The shell works better for me because of my yellowish (East Asian) skintone. Sizing-wise, I stuck to my XS. The S is fine on the chest and arms but too baggy in the body.

But DH asked: "Why did you buy piece of long johns"? Geez!

As for his reaction to the cherry blossom tee: "Doesn't this look like something from [our 2-year-old daughter's name]'s art class?"

Obviously I don't care much about what he thinks...

  39. I tried this on, but the color was wrong for me and the flowers randomly splashed across my large chest was strange. Not for me. I went with the intention of buying one of the flower tees, but none of them "did it" for me.

    ReplyDelete
  40. OT, there are some crewcuts flower pins (item 14163) which would look great on plain tshirts and cardigans. I bought two for DH but am thinking of using them myself.

  41. I literally just got mine tonight, but I haven't had a chance to try it on, yet. When it came the color looked a bit different than I expected...I'm not how to describe it, but I thought it would be more of a brown-ish color. I'm sure that it will look very good on me, but we'll see!

    ReplyDelete
  42. I think AppGal looks great in this tee, but it's something I'm definitely going to have to try on in store. I can see where it may not be that flattering on my body type and finding the right size/fit could make all the difference.

OT: I got my putty Nola cashmere sweater from the EXTRA30 sale and I have to say that adding a punch of color with a bright cardie or handbag can really make this color - so don't count the sun-bleached tees out just because you're afraid it may look a little plain on it's own. I put the putty color next to acorn (?) and the deep green color cords from last year and it really compliments it well. It also goes nicely with a rich, red colored handbag :)!

  43. As for eBay, people splash out for high demand or sold out items from lots of designers. If the market is there, why do you have such a problem with it?
There are loads of great deals there, too, & most items don't sell for anywhere near retail.
Get over the eBay seller bashing.

  44. Thanks for the review, looks great on you Appgal! I think this tee is beautiful, its totally on my wishlist.
