This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)
If you are stopped by a J.Crew store this past weekend to see what's available (if anything!) in the SUMMER sale, or to see some new SUMMER arrivals {sigh!} in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic!
Also, please let us know if your local store was/ is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)
Spotted an Ella Dress in Garden Floral, size 2, $40 final sale at the Newark, DE JC today!
ReplyDeleteThe factory store on I-5 had 30% off sale items. No additional % off at JC or Madewell.

Visited J. Crew Factory store on I-75 north of Cincinnati. New pre-Fall items included a herringbone v-neck cardigan, a navy polka dot Charley, navy polka dot Skimmer pant, and a colorblock sweater in purple & gray (also navy & jade). I did not have one of the postcards mentioned in the Aug. 6th post here, but I mentioned it to the SA and she gave me 25% off my $200+ order, on top of sales on knits, sweaters and pants.
ReplyDeleteOMG, I tried the ankle stretch toothpick garment-dyed jean at the store on Saturday and they fit like a dream (I took my normal size). I have never found a pair of skinnies that flatter me. They are incredible. I am now completely and utterly obsessed by them. But they are $125! Why are they so much? Will they ever go on sale? Should I bite the bullet and use my $25 giftcard on them?
ReplyDeleteYep, I loved them, too... but the $125 price tag made me put them back on the shelf :(. $125 is outrageous...I just couldn't feel good about purchasing them at that price.
DeleteI know! I think it's time for a full priced promo, don't you think?
DeleteI visited the Toronto store but was a bit disappointed because I went to see the new August rollout and they only had a few pieces (Tippis, wool cafe capris, Allie dress..) but not in as many colors as I was expecting. For example, they only had 2? colours of the wool No2 Pencil skirt in. They said they would be getting more after today so I will have to go back later this week.
ReplyDeleteMy store ( the concept store) had a few racks of sale, and were in the midst of putting out the new pieces. I weigh in on some of them in this post.On Trend Orchids . More to think about!
ReplyDeleteI went to the store this past weekend to get a student/educator's discount on the Collection emerald sequin dress that I ordered online for $495 for my wedding rehearsal. It is a gorgeous dress and has more of a pencil skirt look waist down than the bell skirt look online. The sleeves and top portion are also not as baggy as they look on the model, and I am small chested. I was going to hold on to the dress for a bit longer to consider and reconsider because almost all of the sizes are sold out online, but I couldn't justify the $495 price tag.
ReplyDeleteThe dress rung up to be $225 in store (full price item), and with the 15% student discount, I paid $191.25. That's about a $300 savings/ difference!! Online and in-store price differences are outrageous but am happy I was able to get the price adjustment.
What a happy ending. That dress was definitely "meant to be" for your rehearsal. :)
DeleteQuestion, ladies: Does anyone have any thoughts on the Factory's version of the No. 2 Wool Pencil skirt? Are there any major differences between the Factory version and the original JCrew version? I was in a Factory store this weekend and found the skirt in gold, grey, and a blue-ish green for 40% off 89 plus a student/educator discount which brought them to $45. The quality seems to be there, but I cannot locate a tag that indicates fabric content or care instructions. Could anyone give me some input? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteThe major difference I noticed was the length. The factory ones are more like a freakin' mini skirt on me! I am 5'9" and it was 4-5" above my knee. Fail #1 right there. Also, the fabric just wasn't as nice as the (pre 2012) retail fabric... not even close. I was all set to buy a royal blue one at my factory store last week but once I tried it on I just laughed at myself for even thinking it would be up to par. It wasn't. It was scratchy and thin. I only tried it on because it was 40% off but even that discount was not good enough. Actually, I wouldn't want the skirt for free! Sorry for being so negative... but I am just being honest.
DeleteThanks, J.CrewJD! I've never purchased the real thing or even inspected one irl, so my eye was easily caught by the Factory version. After hearing your input, it seems like I should save up for the original version rather than snatch the Factory skirt.

DeleteI can only comment on the ones I bought in 2011. I didn't see a difference in fabric or finishing (besides a different ribbon used in the waistband) but the factory skirt did seem a bit larger which a salesperson told me was not my imagination. She said factory sizes are usually more generous. My originals were a size smaller than factory. I've heard the wool this year feels thinner than last year's but that doesn't bother me at all. I think I've noticed the same thing where the schoolboy wool blazers are concerned. My 2011 version feels thicker while the 2012 version feels like wool suiting fabric.

ReplyDeleteOff topic, but my store VPS invited me to a party next Tuesday evening to celebrate the Toronto Yorkdale store's 1 year anniversary. Are there any Toronto-area JCAs who are also going to this event? It would be nice to meet and finally put faces to the names!
ReplyDeleteUm, how do I get invited to this party! I don't have a VPS - the one I originally got never emailed me back but maybe I will try emailing her.
DeleteSeriously, me too! It would be so fun to meet everyone!
DeleteHey Louise I will be there too! I'm sure we were at the store together during the first day of the crazy sale as I left right at noon and I recall you said you were there too. Also seems like we picked up a lot of the same stuff :)
DeleteI'm not sure how you can get invited but I would guess you can always call the store and ask...I'm sure they would love to make more money lol!
Ladies, please feel free to email me at stylishchemist at gmail dot com - we can set up a meeting place ahead of time.
Deletedagmara - It's worth getting back in touch with your VPS to see if you can get an invite. It would be great to meet you!
Connie, I still can't believe that sale, it was insane. Hope to meet you soon!
I just got my invitation in the mail today--I will be there!
DeleteHas anyone reviewed the collection italian wool dress (p 32 of Aug catalog). It isn't showing up on the site anymore. I guess it sold out at FP.
ReplyDeleteI didn't review it but it truly is a lime green. The jcrew collection store in manhattan had it 2 weeks ago.

There's a yellow frog clasp bracelet in the Edina/Southdale (MN) store. Someone must've returned it. It was there early this morning...
