J.Crew of Seasons Past: {a look in the closet}

It's that time again, to take a look at an image of J.Crew pieces from seasons past! As caribbelle (in this post) so beautifully termed, "ye olde j crew of yore".

Remember the Elizabeth Cami that J.Crew came out with several years ago? I feel like the ruffle trend at J.Crew can be traced back to this one particular top. After getting this in Navy, I was hooked (and never looked back to wearing collars without some frills).

What are your thoughts on the look(s)/item(s) from the past? Do you find the look(s)/item(s) classic or do you think they are dated?

  1. This top in ivory was also my introduction to JC ruffles. IMO it looks much better buttoned all the way up. Generally I wear it as a layering piece under a dress or sweater, but I wore it on its own the other day and noticed how much the buttons gape . . . just like in the photo.

  2. These tops ran so large! I've bought them in nearly every color (through eBay mostly) and have to go down 1-2 sizes. That never happens to me!

  3. I too got this top (in navy) and agree, it ran way too large. I kept the larger size and used it through my pregnancy. But I based my "future" J.Crew purchases on that sizing and leaned quickly that I should stick to trying on the pieces in the store.

  4. I have that Elizabeth halter in navy, too. It's an XS and roomy at that! But I like layering it under a sweater or cardigan.

    Remember the original Elizabeth shirt that came in white with the big frilly collar?

  5. I have this top in cream and I still love it. It's especially great under cardigans or blazers!

  6. I have always loved this cami, and still own it in Black and Navy. I also had the printed one, but it was just a bit too large, so I had to let it go unfortunately.

  7. I just pulled this out of my closet to try on for an upcoming event and it's gigantic! I have it in medium and like the other posters had to size down in future purchases. I own it in navy and still love it and want to wear it. Thinking about getting it altered so it's not so large. Anyone try that?

  8. It is gigantic! I have one I got back when it came out in an orangey/red shade. It also needs a special bra. But it does look cute under a cardi or blazer. I wear it w/jeans.
