Congrats to all those in the area! And if you happen to be attending, please share with us your treasure finds! :)
I went to the last warehouse sale in the spring. This was my first sale and not as fun as advertised by previous sale-goers. Just want to warn--the staff was not friendly.
ReplyDeleteYou are not allowed to take ANYTHING out of your bag after it has been put in there. If you see a hole in an item after it has been placed in the bag, you are out of luck, unless you happen to remember the item was defective once you get to the register...very difficult if you are buying multiple items.
Security was there to enforce this and cameras were set up everywhere. My husband and I were almost thrown out because I had accidentally placed an item in his bag. When I reached in to pull it out and place it in my own bag, an associate and security pounced on us. This was NOT a good experience. To wait hours upon hours in line for this sale and be treated like criminals was a huge bummer.

ReplyDeleteThat's really interesting insight. It does make sense as to why there has not been a warehouse sale in awhile. I am crossing my fingers that I will have some luck at this sale as its a way for me to afford some jcrew items. I usually don't see anything I want or need in my wardrobe at the sales area in the stores. I am hoping for a schoolboy blazer at a good price.
DeleteI'm really sorry to hear these comments! I thought it had been a very long time since a warehouse sale was held and if they let go of the person in charge, then that makes sense.
ReplyDeleteI especially hate to hear now they are treating customers. Very disappointing.
I agree with the above author. According to some chatty JCrew staffers, the one person responsible for putting on these sales left after all the crazy policies were implemented and JCrew has left the position unfilled for six months. I heard they recently hired 4 people to take his place..... I find that interesting.
ReplyDeleteAs far as the products, these items have not yet found a home in their previous lives whether in a store or online and now, amidst dusty floors and cardboard boxes are hoping for one last shot before being donated to a non profit in a third world country. There are no prizes in these boxes and yes there are items with cuts and holes that any buyer would want to be able to see and review before buying. With JCrew being so customer service oriented I always wonder who gave the staff the memo to be absolutely the antithesis of this at these sales?
When you said the last person left, I was hoping it didn't mean the end of warehouse sales. If they hired 4 as replacements then hopefully they will continue.
DeleteWith that said, I will skip future sales if the crazy policies of late continue. I get they want to curb the resellers but the pendulum has swung too far. Not being able to remove an item from your bag?? Crazy!!
If they want to stop resellers, then they need to stop having sales. As long as there are sales, there will be resellers buying mass quantities of stuff to sell on eBay. When will J.Crew just accept that and move on?
DeleteI've heard there are some great deals on wedding gowns though!! (And I assume that's where most of the eBay resellers are getting their gowns.) I wish I could go and snag a dress or two for my upcoming nuptials as I think the hassle would be worth the deal! Is anyone going willing to look and/or get a couple dresses for me? I'll pay you for your time and of course pay you back?!? :)
ReplyDeleteLynzeeroo, the Arden sales usually don't get any of the good dresses (I've been to at least 10 sales over the last four years)... but I did see some at a Lynchburg sale two years ago, and in one of the lynchburg clearance stores. They also occasionally get the good ones (the more expensive/more detailed, I mean) in the Arden store but often they are weird samples. I tried to find myself a gown in the warehouse sale there last November but they were all the plain chiffon ones. Meh. They did have TONS of the special occasion dresses though, including current ones. That was exciting. They were only $30!
DeleteThe prices change with every sale and apparently so do the policies. The sale before the one I went to was apparently the one where no one was even talking, and they were really enforcing the no try on/take out of bag rule. When I went, the staff were all super nice and I was able to try things on and sort through my items without a problem.
Thanks for the info JCrewJD! That makes me feel a bit better for missing the Arden sale, but there are some J Crew gowns I love but are wayyy out of my price range. I guess I'll wait and see if anything pops up on ebay after this sale!
DeleteOn my way right now, man do I hope that these policies are not enforced! I'm also passing a Jcrew factory store and a pottery barn outlet, my head is spinning :)
ReplyDelete400 people are in line as of 7::20am.
ReplyDeleteYep, I am in line now. Tons of people are waiting. I got here just before 8am. I hope this is worth it -- I drove two hours! Some people drove farther and stayed last night. This is my first time doing anything like this. I don't even do black Friday stuff.
ReplyDeleteStill in line, got here at 6:30 thinking we'd be really early but we're around #250
ReplyDeleteThe line is moving sooooo slow. I hope I have energy to shop when I get in!
ReplyDeleteGot on line at 8:30am and still a good 1 to 1.5hr more to go before i get in :(
ReplyDeleteJust finished, it was hectic but scored a number of great deals, the staff was very friendly and no patrolling or escorting anyone out. Next time I'll get there even earlier.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear there were no issues inside. Congrats on your scores!
DeleteGot there at 7:00am after driving 3 hours (should have gotten there at 6am but there was an accident - looked bad, hope everyone's okay). Stood in line with my mom from 7am - 12:30pm. Finally got in & wasn't impressed. The staff seemed friendly, even though the people in line around us were not. For more info: http://everydaymusingsetm.blogspot.com/

ReplyDeleteI went again today, they had reorganized the bins so I found some new things for that reason alone. Scored some suede pants with the $795 tags attached for $10
ReplyDeleteI went both days and did reasonably well. Associates were friendly -it was as tbough someone sent out a memo on the benefits of saying please and thank-you. Rules, now called "shopping guidlelines" have been revised and are more reasonable. $500 limit is still in place. Try-ons over clothing are permitted. Sorting is permitted as long as eveything stays in the bag while you sort and you take out 1 item at a time. Dumping out your bag and sitting on the floor to sort is not permitted - an associate will walk by and state the policy; there were no threats of confiscation.
ReplyDeleteThis was my first sale in Arden. I have been to several sales in Lynchburg. IMO Lynchburg had more collection pieces and high end samples. Arden had more cashmere, a nice selection of crewcuts and a large mens section. There was also a wider range of sizes lots of 12s, 14s, and bathing suit tops in D. Most the items were in good shape albeit a bit wrinkled. As with their regular retail stock, I found that the tops had most of the condition issues.
I found 9 pristine cashmere sweaters ($25), a couple of pencil skirts ($10), and several wool cafe capris (also $10).
All in all it was worth the trip, but for me, Lynchburg is probably a better match with my wish list.
I was also pleased with the quality and size range, I saw a few sweaters that had pilling and were obviously customer returns as well as a couple shirts with tears but almost everything else was in fantastic condition. I looked over all of my cashmere and wool several times and no holes. Many of the items I got still had all the tags attached and were in perfect condition.
DeleteHi, This was my experience: I went with my three daughters on Saturday. We arrived at 4:00 am and there were about 35 people in front of us. Being in the first group to go inside was a real advantage. We came across box after box of neatly folded attire from this season's Spring and Summer wear. When we left around 12:00 it looked like a tornado had hit the place! Clothes thrown everywhere, on the floor, under the tables etc. We found some excellent buys though:

Congratulations on your finds. I hearily agree with the benefits of being in the first group of shoppers. I didnt get there until after 6 and had quite a wait.
DeleteYou found schoolboy blazers? I am so jealous! :o). Out of curiosity, were did you find them? Were they hanging on the racks in the back or were they in boxes?
DeleteMay I also ask the general size range of all these items you found? I went twice...found decent stuff but no nearly as good of a haul as you!
DeleteTwo of the blazers were hanging on the racks toward the rear by the mens wear. We headed straight there upon entering the sale. One was in a box. Sizes 10,10 and 8 Tall. The Naomi was 2, The Anchors Aweigh 0, Marled Cable Pullover Med, Ultra Eyelet Shell 12, Scalloped Lace Shell Linen 10 Popover Med, Shorts various sizes. The Maritime Blazer was size 8, the Tippi's were small & xsmall, the cardigans size large.
DeleteBecause I was there with three of my daughters we were able to cover a lot of ground. My 14 year old twins found quite a few things in their size because they are small but overall, I thought there was a good mix.
Thanks for answering my question JLacy! Next time I will get there early and head right for the racks. :o)
DeleteGreat finds! I ended up purchasing almost 20 dresses, at $20 they were too good to pass up and found a lot of the ones I had seen online and in stores recently including Maisie, Blythe, Director, Attaché and others. I also got two cashmere sweaters with tags still attached, several pairs of pants including the $795 suede ones for $10 as well as a skirt, $5 swimsuit and some $5 leather flip flops. I had a great time and will definitely be scoping out the next sale!
ReplyDeleteI went to the sale yesterday. I got there at 5pm and there was a small line of 10 people waiting to be let into the warehouse. After a 5min wait, we were let in, given a plastic bag and a price sheet. This was my first time going to this type of sale and I was like a kid in a candy store! lol. There was so much to be looked at and sorted through. This is not for the faint of heart though. I had a mental list of what I really, really wanted-a school boy blazer in navy and a wool pencil skirt. I had no such luck finding either though. :o(. But I did find two great pairs of shoes-a great pair of brown, studded comfy flats and a cute pair of suede low heeled sandals. I also got two silk Madwell blouses and a great rusty colored cashmere cardigan.
ReplyDeleteThere were some sweaters and cardigans I found but after further inspection, there were stains and holes in them that made it not worth buying. There was a lot of Madwell items like pants and shirts and sweaters. Lots of special occasion dresses and swim suits. There were a lot of shoes, however I didn't see a lot of clutches or purses or jewelery (which I wanted) and if I did they had serious defects. There were a lot of straw hats. There were a ton of boxes of pants and lots of women's shirts. Lots of boxes filled with crew cuts items.
I talked to a sales associate because I wanted to know how often they had such sales and he said that they used to have them every 2-3 months. But now they will have them quarterly. He said that the reason is because they want to be able to acquire better quality items to sell, which to me is a great idea. I saw so many clothes with very bad defects. I understand that this is the reason why the clothes are less expensive than in the store, but the defects were just beyond repair (I hope I don't seem like I am complaining because I am not). I also want to mention that the sales associates were all super nice and very friendly. I want to go back to another sale in the future!
