This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.
Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.

ReplyDeleteThanks for your review! I rec'd the Flowersketch Peplum Top & LOVE it! Do you agree it's more of a pinky/orange, or a coral background then orange? For some reason I thought it would be more orange. Doesn't matter it just means it has potential to look great w/blues on bottom, as well as the off white & browns. The print drew me in but the thought of a peplum had turned me off. The peplum works out since the fabric hangs straight down & doesn't flare. It is super flattering to the figure. I bought a size medium & couldn't go smaller because of needing the chest room. I still need to try it w/some items in my closet but it's def a keeper.
DeleteThat's awesome, I'm excited it worked out for you! It looks like it must've been a popular item - apparently it's not on the site anymore? But there are still plenty in our B&Ms so I'm hoping I'm not in trouble yet! Still keeping my fingers crossed that it might somehow show up on the site again, and maybe on sale? It is definitely more of a coral, not too bold either, which should mean it won't have as high of clash potential with other colors. And yeah, I wouldn't have gone with a top just because it has a peplum - I'm not that interested in peplums, but I find the waist seam creates definition. Glad you found which size works for you, I hope that wasn't too complicated, as the sizing was definitely different from what I expected.

ReplyDeleteI was in LOVE with the lucille in the cotton-silk faille.... until I sat down. The lining was peeking out a good bit all day, no matter how I tried to adjust myself.
I had much better luck with the ella in petal eyelet! Fit is perfect. I ordered both dresses in my usual J. Crew dress size.
Also received the anchors aweigh tee finally and I love it :) A little thin, but the fabric is so soft! I took my usual tee size.
OT - I was watching Jay Leno tonight and Michelle Obama was the guest, and of course I was checking out her outfit. I think, she was wearing J.Crew's Valentina Patent Pumps in Dusty Jade. It looks good on her! :)

I picked up the white version of this sweater on the mega-50%-off in-store extravaganza. I found it to be comfy and casual, a soft knit, quite slouchy. I probably would have sized down had that been an option. (The pink version is very neon, so if you love the brights, go for it.)It's been too hot to wear it yet, but I'm looking forward to it!

ReplyDeleteI love the look of it, but will have to size down to see if that makes it look less boxy. It does have an itch factor, but I found a very thin tee that would work under it.
Just reviewed the Madewell Flowersketch Matchbook Dress along with some other items, including a navy silky (rayon) shirtdress and a cobalt blue pleated midi skirt, neither of which are online yet, here.
ReplyDeleteI ordered the "Port of Call" sweatshirt as a ride along on one of the 30 off sales to get free shipping. I just wanted to try it w/no intentions of keeping it. I must say, I'm contemplating keeping it b/c I'm not sure it'll make it to sale and it's really cute! The fit is a bit boxy and short, but not so boxy as to be shapeless. The product description says "slim fit" but I don't think that's accurate. It's loose but not shapeless. The cotton is a nice medium to heavy cotton. I like that it's a sweatshirt but it's not fleece lined and hot. It's lighter than that and could probably stretch through 3 seasons and maybe even a really cool summer day/evening. It's not long, so if you're long waisted or very tall, it may be too short. I'm neither of those, lol, so it's perfect on me. I had it on w/bermuda length jean shorts and it looked really cute.
ReplyDeleteI bought the Collection Tee in the navy, the gorgeous berry color (red pepper) and the ivory. I really liked it but be warned of the care of it, the ivory was put in the dryer by accident and it is completely ruined. Now I have to treat the other two with kid gloves, I'm not sure I should have kept such delicate items.
ReplyDeleteI've got the Icon wool trench in Heather Acorn arriving this week, I'll post up a review when I get my hands on it! I am hoping it is the same shade as the Heather Acorn skirts of last year.
I tried the classic shirt dresses and sadly, sent them both back. I love a good shirt dress and was very excited to try them on. I liked everything about the dress...until I untied the belt. Whoa! There is so much fabric that it took me several minutes to get the dress settled. My first thought facing the mirror was that the dress might work, but then I turned to the side. Oops!All that fabric had moved to the back -not flattering! I'm so disappointed in the design of this dress. I thought about taking it to my tailor, but I hate to spend 150 bucks on a dress and then pay to have the design corrected. Did anyone at J.Crew try this dress on before they sent it to production?

This past week, I purchased a black pair of Cafe Capris, the Cafe Capri in Wool Herringbone in black/cream (love them!!!!), the houndsthooth sweatshirt black/cream (love this so much! So comfy and looks really nice with the black Cafe Capris!), black patent Monas (very classy and good quality!)
ReplyDeleteI also had the Downtown Field Jacket in mossy brown in an XS that I purchased online. I found the sleeves to be a bit tight and exchanged it for a S at my local B&M store. Strangely, the XS had writing design on the inside of the jacket talking about the style of the Downtown Field Jacket, but the S doesn't have that and has plaid trim on the interior of the cuffs and the body of the jacket. Strange that they were so different but the same type of jacket.
Nicole- sounds like you found some great things! I noticed there were two versions of the downtown field jacket at my store. The mossy green and navy had the new black tags some have mentioned, the sizes are printed in tiny font on ribbon. The black in my store had the same white cotton tags as last years version-- I bet the held onto the jackets not sold last year and put them back on the floor.

Thanks for your replies, ladies! I asked the SA today and she said this year's Downtown Field Jacket has the plaid trim (it's not lining per say, but plaid trim where the seams meet on the inside of the jacket). The jackets with script writing inside are the 2011 version. Mystery solved ;) I actually went a head and ordered another XS and S online to be shipped this week. Sadly, I am finding that each Dowtown Field Jacket is fitting different....which we have found in many other JC items. I wish they would be more consistent. Two XS jackets...the same jacket shouldn't fit differently.
DeleteI have a Downtown Field Jacket I bought earlier this year, and it doesn't have plaid on the inside. But it does have the script writing where a label would be. I think it's quite small in the shoulders, but it looks great on otherwise.
DeleteYes, last year's seem to be cut smaller in the shoulder area. I ended up getting an XS in this year's version with the thin plaid trim inside and the shoulders fit much better. I am shaking my head at the fact that I ended up having to purchase 4 different jackets in the same size and style to find one that fit well, because each one was cut differently. If I didn't love the look of the jacket so much, I would've never put up with such ridiculousness. J.Crew, please get it together!
DeleteHello Ladies...Not sure this is the place to write this, however wanted to know if anyone has experienced or heard of this...Has anyone ever heard of J.Crew having to "return to stock" a returned item? I was lucky enough to see a fellow JCA was returning a pair of 9.5 leopard Viv flats...I was sooo excited because I had been looking for just that pair...long story short, I contacted the fellow JCA who was gracious to place the shoes on hold for me when she took them in for return. When I phoned the J.Crew (Burlington Mall-Middlesex Turnpike MA) I was told by the associate that the shoes had indeed been placed on hold for me, however, she could not let me purchase them until they were able to place the shoes back in inventory which could take 24 to 48 hours...she took my contact information and shared she would call when the shoes were available for purchase...have never heard from them since...when I phoned the store after a few more days, no one know anything about the shoes?!? Not good customer service, J.Crew! Disappointed...I would have thought once the shoes were returned, they were "back in stock"?!?! :)
ReplyDeleteThe SA gave you a line; I know that there is absolutely nothing preventing them from selling you a return right then and there. If they tell you there is, it's probably to prevent you from returning and repurchasing. I agree with the others that said she or another SA wanted the shoes :P
DeleteMaybe it was a former BR employee having a flashback. lol I've never heard of such at thing at J Crew. Once I was admiring a pair of shoes that a customer was returning. A short time later the SA brought them to the fitting room for me to try them on, without my request.
DeleteI once held a pair of shoes at a store. Someone apparently took them out of the hold closet and sold them within 30 minutes of me holding them. I was pissed.
DeleteJ.Crew doesn't train their SAs well. I wrote to complain about this (it was part of a bigger incident), and I did get an apology from the district director.

ReplyDeleteThe wool fabric on the double-serge skirt has indeed changed and although I find it softer I think it is also thinner and prone to pilling. Closeup photos and comparison to previous versions provide a bit more detail, if you're interested.
On the optic-dot tee, I liked the fabric and the pattern but it is slightly sheer and the neckline is finished poorly. This one is going back.
Xoxo - I appreciate your review of the no 2 pencil! Disappointing they've lowered the quality and raised the price. Guess on the bright side, that's money that can stay in the bank!

ReplyDeleteYES! I've had my store say they won't place returned merchandise back on the store for 24 hrs or so. I thought this was done to prevent return/repurchase on sale.
I have also been in the process of returning an item & another customer wanted it, & they sold it to her right then & there.
The only thing consistent w/JC's policies is inconsistency. I bet one of the SA's wanted your shoes. :P

ReplyDelete@A Sister Thing: I know the Burlington Mall store has only a limited shoe selection--usually just ballet flats. So perhaps that's why they were so strange about the return. I'm not sure what a store does with returned merchandise that isn't in their usual stock.

ReplyDeleteI ordered two featherweight V neck sweaters, and I love the way they look and feel, but NOT the way they wash - one already has a small hole after one laundry.
If we're ever reviewing stores, I was taken aback by the Hingham MA Crewcuts store. Poor selection, lazy SA's and wildly different pricing from both the website and the other Crewcuts B&M's I've been to (though to be fair, the quality of the Crewcuts B&M's varies widely).

ReplyDeleteI love my feather weight cotton sweater in the orange colour (can't remember the exact name). I have worn it all summer and washed it several times. I love that it is light enough to ball up in my purse when I don't need it. But it is definitely a "summer sweater" and could be prone to snags though that hasn't happened to me yet.

DeleteI forgot to mention the Optic Dot tee, which I purchased in navy. I really like it and am keeping it. The fabric is midweight and a little stiff, which I consider a plus given my bad experience with soft knits from JC. The fit is great on me and I think it will be a versatile piece. Got lots of compliments at the office.
ReplyDeleteWMM & J.CrewJD, I'm sorry to say that I have tried the heavy weight silk blouse and it was an epic fail. The color was beautiful but everything else was a disaster. The bow is too small and is sewn in place, making it less versatile. They weren't kidding about the heavy weight silk, but it wasn't heavy in a good way - it added bulk which I definitely do not need. In my regular size 8 it was too small and it was too boxy when i sized up. I'm only five feet tall and I could see how it would look better on a taller, less busty woman but one of the shoulder seems gave as I was taking it out of the package. Before I even tried it on! I wanted to love this top and was prepared to pay full price as a special treat to myself but frankly I wouldn't pay a quarter of the asking price. For anyone who is on the fence though, I do recommend trying it on before it gets pushed to final sale.

ReplyDeleteClassic Shirtdress....like most everyone who has tried this on, it's a huge unflattering tent. I'm so disappointed.
Edie Attache' in Oasis Green....love the color, but I'm a bit (really alot) OCD and the locking hardware on the top flap wasn't aligned and it sat off to the side, instead of in the middle and that bugged me. I was also afraid every litte scratch would show. Back it went.
Janey Flats.....My normal shoe size was too tight. They look cheap and junky to me. The persimmon is retina burning it's so bright....just plain ugly. Not flattering to my foot or ankles. Returned. I bought two pairs of gorgeous Vince Camuto VC Signature patent leather pumps with gold accents on the 2" block heel at Nordstrom rack. Black and nude for the same price as one pair of Janey flats. They are super comfortable and super classy. I'll wear them forever. I'm also springing for a pair (or two) from his fall rollout. The Francoise Pump. Gorgeous!!!!
Got the safari cat long no. 2. Man, this thing is tight! Maybe I need to drop a few pounds?
Don't like any of the new jewely. Too expensive for cheap looking stuff. I rarely meet a jewel I don't like. JC is really missing the mark on this new rollout.
Ok, these are the things I love. Liberty shirt in Indian Red. Not even going to play the "wait and see it it goes to sale game". Love it. Field jacket in Navy. Perfect for the Pacific NW. Kaleiscope capris. Glad to get them for $69.99. Golden burgandy no. 2...looks fabulous with the Liberty shirt in Indian red. A keeper.
What I'm waiting for: Sterling skirt in more colors. I love this skirt. A skirt I can actually walk in. And get in a car in. Yah! Also will be buying some Tippi Cardigans. My favorite cardigan silhoutte so far, so I'm buying some.
I'm expanding my clothing horizons and taking a hard look at fall offerings from Talbots, Ralph Lauren and Brooks Brothers.... I've got enough stripes, polka dots, pencil skirts and printed pants for a lifetime. Time to get some basics.

The peacock bracelet is as heavy as the ram bracelet or any of the other animal bracelets (not too heavy).

I just came back today from another visit to the concept store and they were still merchandising, a day later. No new catalog yet. I saw a chicken print scarf on navy for $65.00, and a collarless black and white optic dot blouse for $128.00, but it was rayon,boo.There is a new pencil skirt of an almost indescribable fabric. It is embossed like a brocade, and it is sparkly shiny and it is in a large floral and it is in rather vibrant/harsh jewel tones. A lot of ands, but it has them all! I weighed in some of the things I saw Monday in yesterday's post

DeleteTwo more things.....I bought some pants...I think they are called the Camp pant. They are a cargo style. I don't see them on the website anymore. Really cute. I sized up one. My capri size was tight. Bought the army green color. And I got the Stretch Cotton shirt. It's on sale. I bought a Medium to fit my big ol' manly shoulders and arms and it's ok. The body is kinda big...but what's new? That's always my story. I bought the Casablanca blue. I'll probably keep it. And I returned the green wool scarf with navy dots mainly because I'm totally polka dotted out. It's seems alot scratcher than the scarves I bought last fall/winter. That's all!

I plan on wearing them with a nice crisp white shirt, my leopard Tory flats and a bright red purse. As soon as it cools down! Too hot now!

DeleteDhs1220- I bought the excursion vest last year in the green (peacock green if my memory serves me) and I love love love it! I am usually an xxs or xs in JC tops and went with the xxs so the silhouette was more fitted. It goes well with sweaters and button downs--got tons of compliments with both.
DeleteI also machine washed according to the directions on the tag and it's held up well. Looking forward to cooler weather so I can break it out this year. HTH!!

DeleteI should also add I really like that it is a warm puffer without being too bulky. I am petite and don't want to look like a walking marshmallow, so I usually stick to fitted outerwear. The vest is nicely nipped at the waist and the diamond quilting is sleeker than other puffy vests out there.

DeleteI got the collection italian wool dress in lime green. The color is very pretty, kind of like a light kelly green. The fabric seemed to be very substantial/good quality. Unfortunately, it was borderline too short on me (several inches above the knee--too short for work when I sit down) and the puffy 3/4 sleeve style just added bulk to my figure. So it got returned. I also recommend trying this before it hits final sale because this is something you really need to try on to see if it will work with your figure.

DeleteI tried on this dress at the Collection Store on Madison and 66th in NYC (they also carry it in navy). I am 5'2" and tried my regular size. It did not work on me -very unflattering on the top, though the length was fine. I was disappointed in the color; it looks like a lovely mint online and in the catalogue, but is definitely closer to kelly green. HTH!
DeleteJust a note.....today I received a $25.00 gift card from Ann Taylor in the mail. Retailers are fighting for our dollars! I've only spend $140.00 at Ann Taylor in the last year. One purse on sale. I don't shop there much, but I'm going to take a look now that they've sent me a gift card!
ReplyDeleteThey have a blythe look-alike, 100% silk in pretty colors for cheaper than JC is offering. $98 versus $110, plus AT is always having coupons/promos, so you can get a good deal. Unfortunately many of their other items are polyester these days.

ReplyDeleteIf not/you don't have that information, does the chambray shirt fit the same way as the other Perfect Shirts available in store? Similarly, which shirt at J.Crew would have similar sizing and fit to the oxford one?
I'm asking because I don't have a local J.Crew store and have only visited twice before, therefore I am unsure of my sizes. If I can't find the actual shirts in store I'd like to order them online (even though they're expected to ship in November, eep!) and would like as much as possible to avoid buying the wrong size. *sighs* Sucks to live in Canada sometimes!
I have the chambray dot shirt, which I purchased in an 8 (someone must have returned it to our store; it's the only one I've seen). I hover between a 6 and an 8, being large chested, and while the 8 is on the loose size, I'm glad I sized up.
DeleteAs for the polka dot boy shirt, I've only tried it in the 8, but that was too large, so I would go with a 6 if it weren't on backorder!
I hope that all makes sense! I can't recommend the chambray enough, though! Can't stop wearing it!
I should mention that in, say, a Blythe blouse, I am a solid 6. Any XS-XL items, I always wear a Small; and dresses I am a 6 as well. Probably wayyyy more information than you're looking for!

DeleteHi Christine, imo chambray shirt fits the same as most perfect shirt, TTS. I could take the same size in Oxford Polka dot shirt but the fit is more boxy, similar to other boy shirts, Perfect shirts are more nipped in the waist. Also Oxford shirt has more substantial fabric so it drapes differently. You can see both shirts on my blog to compare and also other perfect shirts, like Liberty if you enter 'perfect shirt', 'polka dot' or 'boy fit' in 'search this blog box'.

DeleteChristine, I take the same size in both shirts. The Oxford fits a bit boxier through the body than the Chambray, but I couldn't size down because then the shoulders and bust felt a bit tight.
DeleteI think that you can size down in the Oxford if you have reasonably narrow shoulders and/or a smaller bust, otherwise I would recommend going with your usual Perfect Shirt size. HTH!

ReplyDeleteI just received the Madewell Paris Storyteller scarf. It's a nice french blue color. I matched it to Casablanca blue....not the same color. I'll wear it with black, white, grey (it's got grey in the design), sunflower yellow. It's a really nice big square that could be worn over a coat or vest as well as with a blouse. And it feels nice....it's wool and silk. It's my first Madewell item and I'm pleased.
ReplyDeleteSorry....I can't ever seem to make "Reply" work...Anyway,the quilted Excursion Jacket from last year is one of my all time favorite JC items. I bought it in the olive color. Everytime I wear it women ask me where I got it. I wear it with the belt tied. It's not too hot, just right for our fall and winter days. I also love the cotton army green cargo vest from last year. I wear it all the time. It's super cute with a nice belt belted over the vest.
ReplyDeleteCaitlin....I agree with you on the Chambray dot shirt. It fit me weird due to the shoulder/arm problem. I tried on the next size up from my Perfect shirt size and it was huge in the torso on me. It's a very boxy cute and looked sloppy. I bought the Gap version because it has a more fitted body. If you have thin arms and small shoulders, you are probably fine with the JC version.

ReplyDeleteNEED A LITTLE HELP: Looking for some feedback from a size 12/14 JC-lover on the Minnie pant...have been considering them but wondering if they show every lump and bump on you too?? they look sooo cute and the ad says they are for everyone but i can't figure out if i am not trying the right color or not styling them right OR if they are just not for me.
ReplyDeleteI bought a 12 in the darker colors but in the tan I'd have bought the 14. The tan did show EVERY lump I had so I had to pass. I am very curvy and think they flatter my figure.
DeleteI wear a size 12 bottom and have a few of the darker colored minnies - for me personally, I find they work best with more of a tunic style top/short dress. I have not tried the lighter colors for the reasons mentioned above but found the darker colors to be flattering.I've also paired them with a blouse, blazer and tall boots in the winter. I haven't tried sizing up in them because I do feel like they give throughout the day. HTH
DeleteI take them in a 12, my typical JC pant size. I think they are flattering and don't highlight lumps and bumps, but my "trouble" area is my waist, not legs, so it's not as big an issue for me.

ReplyDeleteThe good: the color is terrific, a heathered golden light brown, a darker version of the heather acorn from last fall, which means it pairs up nicely with my heather acorn skirts. The fit is fine, I ordered a size 2 to wear over a sweater or even a blazer, there is a definite room in the shoulder on me but I need that for layering.
The only bad I can say is that the fabric content is 20% nylon which is pretty high. The wool seems substantial and not fuzzy or pilly, I know that nylon adds durability as well.
Oh the other good! The piping on the inside of the lining (which the tag claims is poly but I am almost certain it is a satin acetate, wth is up with the labels) is a printed tie silk like the days of old. Maybe JC is actually listening to us, it is very adorable, a dark red and navy print piping! I have the coat on a hangar in my cupboard with my fall things, we'll see if they can get along for a few days before we commit to anything, but so far so good.
I am delighted to hear that the coat has all of those fun extra details. They really add so much!
DeleteDani, I think that the 20% nylon has been around for a while. I have few coats with this content and they held up well. I thought that maybe you want to wait to see if they come up with a new version of Boulevard coat in camel/acorn/tan. I like it much better than last years Icon. The Stadium Cloth is much warmer for your Canadian winters. I am in NJ, as you know, but I only buy Stadium cloth coats from J.Crew, anything else, like double cloth or cashmere blend, is too flimsy for me after November.

ReplyDeleteJust got a shipment in from Madewell (bit on the 20% off + free shipping) and the Crew (free shipping ftw). From Madewell I got the plain black leather Sidewalk Skimmer and thus far I love them. I needed to replace a VERY similar pair faux leather flats I bought from Target YEARS ago that are reaching their final days (I wear them CONSTANTLY), and I decided the grown up thing to do would be to actually invest in a genuine leather pair. They're made in China, but they feel really sturdy and they have a leather lining. Win. I'm wearing them with socks right now hoping they'll break in faster so I can start wearing them ASAP (and retire the old faithfuls).
ReplyDeleteI also got the Aussie Storyteller Scarf, and I have to echo Straycat-- I really like it. It's a really generous size and the print is really cute. The Aussie is 100% wool and I'm looking forward to wearing it in fall/winter. A note about the description online: it says it has a shiny foil map of Australia-- it's not actually shiny. It just looks like an image of foil or something.
The J Crew shipment brought a basic black Factory Pencil skirt, a No 2 in Golden Burgundy (more on that in a second), and the Optic Dot Boatneck in navy. I ordered my usual J Crew tee size and it fits perfectly. I see what other reviewers mean when they comment on the stiff feel of the fabric, but I personally don't think it's too stiff and I actually think it feels like it might hold up pretty well since the fabric doesn't have any kind of a filmsy feel.
About the No 2-- (OT; apologies) I bought it to replace the same skirt in a size lower that was too small and I stupidly let an SA talk me into buying anyway. And of course it was final sale. Suggestions about what to do with the too-small one? Is there some kind of not-so-dishonest trickery I can employ to get them to take it back..? It's a size 4, Golden Burgundy if anyone wants it. All suggestions welcome! TIA!!

Rashawnda.....My experience with the Minnie pant: First of all I had to size up one size. My cafe capri size was really tight in the Minnie. So I try the 10. The lower part of the pant (which would be on my calves) was cut so slim that I could only pull the pants on so far. Really tight on the lower leg. I don't have huge calves or wear boots made for big calves, so I don't know what gives? Then the pants were very low slung on me. Very low. I'm sort of curvy (but I'm not packing alot of extra pounds) and this pant just didn't fit me right. The fabric makes it very form fitting and clingy and the cut is very slim. I knew they wouldn't be my style, but I just wanted to try them and get it out of my head. I personally do not think they are for everyone. They didn't fit me at all. I'm 5'9" so I don't know if they would fit someone shorter better. I don't know...they were just terrible on me.

DeleteYou are definitely not alone. I couldn't get the Minnies to work either. I'm (5'3") a petite/short in matchsticks and cafe capris. I tried both the 0 and 2 petite Minnies and didn't like how they looked or how the material felt on me. I may try them in regular, but will probably just give up on them.

I do have a couple of pairs but dark colors and I always size down. I think I got sucked to the hype they look good on everyone, in reality I don't love them on me and have only purchased for a low/low sale price. I love the BR Sloan Slim Ankle (sorry I keep mentioning them), much nicer fit and style for me, those I do get in petite.

DeleteI wear a size 2 Minnie since I find that they get baggy after wearing for a few hours but am a consistent 4 at BR. So I got a 4P but I have gotten into a 2P but they felt a little snug. I always cold wash the Minnies and BR Sloans. Remember, shipping from BR is free over $50 and they always have some percentage off going on. I believe the regular price is $89.50. HTH.
DeleteWhen I was at the store today I noticed that the new fall 2012 Cece flats all seem to have a slightly thicker sole and rubber heel than last season's. That might help prevent the tears that formed on the heel within a month of wear.
ReplyDeleteI received the houndstooth sweatshirt today, and it is going back. The quality is great but the color is a little off. In the product page, it looks like white with black but in IRL the white is an oatmeal/grey color. It just does not look that nice to me. Wanted to like it.

DeleteJust finished uploading the next photoshoot in the women's section to the September 2012 catalog post. This one is 20 pages long (10 2-page spreads) and we get to see the Burgundy Silk Foulard print that was in the Fall Lookbook on a Cafe Capri, the Sequin Bow Pants, some delicious two-strap patent Mona Mary Janes, and the French Hen sweater. This is my favorite photoshoot in the women's section - ladylike, lush, and lots of pinks and plums!
DeleteGot the next two [short] sections up: a section featuring the Navy Tweed, and a "Forever Favorites" section. 18 pages total.
DeleteNext women's photoshoot section is up here. It's a bold, primary-color themed section where we see the Electric Plaid fabric, the No. 2 Pencil Skirt, quite a lot of cashmere, and other colorful, solid-colored pieces. 26 pages.
DeleteNext section up is a pensive, dreamy, on-location shoot amidst some hauntingly beautiful rocky sea cliffs featuring blues and brown leathers. I really love the tone of this one.

DeleteI joked with my SA when I tried on the Minnie pant. I said..."they are aptly named...you have to be minnie to wear them...hee!" I think they work if you're slim and small.
ReplyDeleteJOdy Justice...I buy the capri cafe pants (the cottom ones) form fitting. They do stretch out when I wear them so they end up just right.
Yup, I have to go up a size to wear them and I wish they had a front zipper because I would never wear anything tucked in with them but I still caved and bought my first pair in boulevard green (a dark hunter green I love) because I think they will sell out quickly. I wish they came in a dark mustard too though.
DeleteI got those too! All the SAs at my stroe have them, so I think they'll go quick as well! This was the first pair I actually purchased in my "normal" size - I bought 4 pairs about 2 years ago, and they stretched terribly! The new ones don't seem to stretch as much, IMO.
DeleteI ordered the festival blue and camel serge skirts the day they hit the website and am actually very pleased with them overall. I still don't like the ribbon waistband they have been using since 2010 as it rolls out of the skirt, but the fabric and fit are still nice.
ReplyDeleteRight now, my biggest complaint with J Crew is the serged seams in the Thomas Mason shirts. Some of the shirts (such as the gingham) are French seamed, but all of them are not. If J Crew expects me to pay $150 for a cotton shirt, they need a higher level of finish.
In September Style Watch magazine a pair of JC silk foulard capris are featurned. $350.00. I admired them before, but I don't wear silk pants and don't buy $350.00 silk pants. Glad I got the cotton ones from this last spring.

I have the gold foil pippa heels from a couple years ago, assorted black dressy heels, silver... but I just don't know. Any suggestions? I do not own any navy dressy heels, unfortunately.
ReplyDeleteJCrewJD - I would try nude heels first, if you have them. Then the silver. Black may work as well. If you're going to an evening event the shoes will just blend in with the sea of others. J Crew's navy tends to be dark, so I'm thinking black would work. The gold in those Pippa look like they won't complement the yellow or green colorblock piece. Will love to see pics. That's a beautiful dress. I love the back.

DeleteI have some patent peep toes with a weird hard plastic flower thingee on the toe from a few years ago... they are nude-ish. I will try those tonight. And then I will add "plain nude heels" to my shopping list! I own every color under the sun but nude (and navy)!
You're right, the gold probably would clash. The yellow stripe is more like the yellow-green crayon color. Very cool yellow.
JCrewJD - lol The patent ones might work. The dress is simple, except for the colorblock so the flower might not take away from it. Sounds like you should get the nude pump thing going, though. Be sure that the shade doesn't match your skin so well that the shoes turn your feet into Barbie feet. They should blend well, but it should be evident that you have shoes on.

DeleteMadewell review: the Silk Moondrop Maxidress. LOVE this dress, but not for the original price. The current price is more like it. The color is as pictured. I was worried it'd be neon but it is not. As far as sizing, I guess it's TTS. I asked CS for measurements and they told me the size 6 had a 34" bust and that the waist, stretched, was 40". I chose to ignore those obviously wrong measurements and ordered a 6 even though I am a 34D and need at least a 36" bust measurement, and even that is pushing it.
ReplyDeleteOf course, I got the dress and it fits perfectly. Maybe I could even wear a 4 - there is room in the chest in the 6. If you have a smaller chest, you could easily size down. It is definitely midi length on me... not maxi. Not even close. But I do love it. Keeper!

Saw the Janey flats for the first time in person - yikes, they're awful. The coral snakeskin ones are a horror show. I'm reminded of all my grandmother's shoes from 1962 that, try as we might, couldn't even give away. Retro can be cool - but these aren't.
Did you happen to notice if the Optic Dot Dress is indeed poly? I'm pretty sure that's what it said in the catalogue, but they've been wrong before.

DeleteI got the Everly Cap Toe pumps today and I love them! The fit is TTS, no need to size up like in the Monas or Martina Wedges. The cap toe is an ivory colour, not bright white but not beige. Heel is a manageable height and I found them to be quite a bit more comfortable than the Monas.

ReplyDeleteI was on limited time so I popped into the store and grabbed the Collection jeweled-collar sweater (94058) to try on at home. I sized down from a S to an XS like others had mentioned they were doing. The fit isn't as boxy one size down, but it is shorter (ok for my shor torso - probably too much if you have a normal to long torso) and although the arms aren't too tight, they are form-fitting. I think the XS makes it look more like the picture and it is comfortable on me, size-wise.
The thing that is going to make me return it is the God-awful scratchiness. I tried it on with a tank and with a tee underneath, and I just don't know if I can handle it. For almost $200 with tax, I would have expected a much softer knit. I am somewhat sensitive to wool, but I wouldn't say overly so, and it is just plain uncomfortable to wear. If you are at all sensitive to wool, steer clear of this sweater.
I am upset because I think the design is adorable and I would have been happy to pay full price for it. The fabric is a killer though. Not at this price point.
