J.Crew Updates Website with New Arrivals!

It looks as though J.Crew had a mini-update to its website today (click here to view online). (Please correct me if I am mistaken.)

There are some new arrivals for men (click here) & women (click here). {wahoo!} It looks like Crewcuts (click here) has been updated, but not the J.Crew Collection (click here).

The latest Fall/October catalog (click here to view) is still not available to view. Not sure when that is going to be available.

There are a few things I really like. First, the Perfect shirt in Black Watch (Item 23696; $88.00). The colors are perfect for Fall and Winter. Second, I love the Peplum Stripe Top (Item 30589; $58.00). The silhouette is just darling. Can't wait to see both of these pieces in person!

Garance sat down with President and Creative Director of J.Crew, Jenna Lyons during New York Fashion Week Spring 2013. The video is about 9 minutes long- perfect to watch while sipping your morning coffee or evening tea.


Jenna always comes off so personable. She seems like she could get along with almost anyone.

Product Review: Polka-Dot Tie-Neck Dress

The Polka-Dot Tie-Neck Dress (Item 97186; $198.00) is currently on sale for $159.99 online and I believe $119.99 in stores. J.Crew describes this polka-dot marvel as:

Oversize polka dots make a sweet statement all over this vintage secretary-style frock. Finished with a retro tie at the neck and intricate box pleating at the skirt for a swooshy effect we love. Select stores. Fitted. Silk. Short sleeves. Button front. Side zip. Pleated skirt. Falls to knee. Dry clean.

I fell in love immediately with this dress. What's not to love thanks to the polka dots, neck tie, and full pleated skirt!?!

I was able to try this dress in my normal-dress-size-at-J.Crew of Size 2. (For reference I am 34B.) Unfortunately, the dress looked weird on me. Too loose to be exact. The waist was not fitted and the chest was "too blouse-y".

I knew I had to size down. The store did not have size 0 available, so I ended up trying the size 00. Well, it fits me! The waist and chest is better fitted to my frame. (Although I suspect the size 0 would have been the best fit.) The point of the sizing story: I think this dress is cut one size large, so I recommend sizing one size down in this dress. At the very least, call (or chat) with J.Crew to ask about the specific measurements of your size.

As for the skirt length, it does not fall to the knee like the product description states. It definitely hits above the knee. So if you are Petite, this dress might fall on your frame perfectly in the Regular length. I would have preferred this dress to have an additional 2-3 inches. But it seems that J.Crew likes their hems short (either they have a knee fetish or they are trying to save some money by not including the extra fabric... I am on to you J.Crew!)

The collar morphs into a tie which looks quite lovely when it is tied low. But the collar can be somewhat awkward. The collar is not stiff, so it does not stand up nicely, nor can it stand down. Not major. Not that noticeable to others. But something to point out. 

The pleated skirt portion is gorgeous. It is not too full where it adds volume to the area. However it is forgiving for those of us who have hips. (Raises hand!) My concern is if the pleats will keep its shape over time. (This concern is not just for this dress, but for any skirt/dress with pleats.) I also would have liked pockets. Alas, there are none to be found.

I also noticed that the back of the dress is slightly longer than the front of the dress when I wore it. (Although, on the hanger, the dress hem is the same length front & back.) I actually found this detail quite charming. I loved it!

Overall, I do not think this dress is worth its full price. However, it is a great buy on sale with an additional percent off. I definitely see myself wearing this piece into Fall with a pair of tights and ballet flats.

First, J.Crew Factory was made available online. Then J.Crew Factory started their own Club for loyal fans (as mentioned in the "Join the J.Crew Factory Club {yes please!}" post from earlier this month).

Well, Factory is taking off, because they just sent an email this morning announcing that J.Crew Factory has its own Facebook page. Click HERE to be a fan!

Although I never missed having a FB page for Factory, I am kind of surprised that J.Crew did not already have one. Better late than never!

What a lovely offer for customers! J.Crew offers a similar service in NYC (free delivery to hotel). I do not believe it was tied to any hotel in specific. However, I do like the idea of growing this service to other geographic markets. Plus a welcome gift- a nice touch!

J.Crew Preview Spotted on Website

J.Crew posted some yet-to-be-released arrivals on their own website through the category headings. However, there is no information on any of these new items (like when they will be released, price, etc.)

It is fun to see some of the upcoming collection from J.Crew! That dog sweater in the first image is adorable. I cannot wait to see it in person.

J.Crew Updates the Sale Search {meh}

Rebekah (in this post) made an observation that I could not agree more with:

i don't like the new side bar in the sale section - how when you click on a clothing category, the rest of the categories disappear from the side bar now and the only option are further refined searches (size/colour). this means you have to click twice to look at the next category instead of just once. i know it's a small thing, but what was the point of changing it? so annoying.  

I do not care for the new update to the Sale Section search either! I am sure J.Crew's tech department thought this enhancement would be helpful to customers, but the opposite is true!

I now have to open a category in a "new tab" in order to have a tab with the other categories of merchandise available. It is an extra inconvenience when shopping the sale section (click here to shop online). Minor negative. But a negative nonetheless.

If someone at J.Crew is reading this, please take note of the comments and the poll results and consider making another change (as in changing it back, please).

It's that time again, to take a look at an image of J.Crew pieces from seasons past! As caribbelle (in this post) so beautifully termed, "ye olde j crew of yore".

This post features the Toulouse Silk-Ruffle Jacket with romantic silk ruffle trim all over. The sweater meets jacket came in a 12-gauge wool knit, which meant it would last more than a few wearings!

As an aside, I love the model used for this look! J.Crew used her quite a bit in 2007 and frankly, they need to bring her back!
