Seek & Find: Will you visit J.Crew this Weekend?

This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)

If you are stopping by a J.Crew store this weekend to see what's available (if anything!) in the SUMMER sale, or to see some new SUMMER & FALL arrivals {sigh!} in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic!

Also, please let us know if your local store is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)

P.S. I noticed that many of you have already been reporting sale items (and in which stores) in other posts which by the way "thank you!" :) I really appreciate how helpful we are for each other!

J.Crew's Jenna Lyons Ten Most Wanted

"Thanks!" to Gem Twin (in this post) who let us know that Vogue (click here) is running an article on J.Crew's Jenna Lyons' ten most wanted fashion pieces for Fall. The article also shares the following:
Most Wanted
By Meredit Melling Burke
Week of 7.29.20

A Great Comeback. As the recently appointed president of J.Crew, Jenna Lyons has a lot to say about fashion's future. This week, however, we asked her to look deep into the heritage brands of fashion's past- and style some looks that would help any girl get ahead.
All her selections have been grouped in the two images of this post. Just click on either image in this post to view larger.

That image of Jenna wearing a black dress in her office with all the brides/models dressed in white is stunning. I really love it! :)

As for her top 10 list... Of course those darn Sequin Pants ($650) made an appearance. Jenna loves them! (As seen on her here and here.) But would I consider that a style to "help any girl get ahead"... me thinks not. ;) However, I do agree with her selection of the Timex® Vintage Field Army Watch (Item 27460; $150.00). That item will last for years as it will never go out of style (for both men *&* women).

And what is up with No. 8? Did I read it right: "J.Crew Junk on Sequin Dress ($1,300)"? I laughed so hard at the J.Crew Junk part. I don't know if that was intentional or not, but it is pretty funny. ;)

What are your thoughts on Jenna's selections? Do you agree or disagree with any of her choices?

J.Crew's Latest Partnership Involves Friendship Bracelets {let's be friends}

There is a new article over at Stylelist (click here to read in its entirety) about a new partnership with J.Crew:
J.Crew Partners With Frieda & Nellie Jewelry
By Jennifer Paull
July 28, 2010

The latest J.Crew accessories partnership debuts tomorrow, July 29, with Frieda & Nellie's winsome, one-of-a-kind woven friendship bracelets. The line pulls elements from vintage costume jewelry, summer camp crafts, and Latin American folk art.

Your fabulously eccentric great-aunt might have spun it if she was moonlighting as an arts instructor at Camp Kippaweechee.

Each bracelet is assembled with rhinestone or metal chains or links, knotted with toucan-toned cotton embroidery thread.

On some, lozenge and chevron patterns wind through the sparklers. Others have long knotted bands with vintage decorative links at each end. These particular combinations were created exclusively for J.Crew.

The BFF founders (and fingers) behind Frieda & Nellie are Stacy Herzog and Sarah Reid, who were inspired to make these mash-up designs after Herzog visited the Galapagos Islands last year. She brought back knotted bracelets that recalled her summers at Stagedoor Manor -- and noticed how good they looked when paired with heirloom costume jewelry. The duo quickly revived the knotting technique first learned at camp.

Several J.Crew staffers, including Marissa Webb, the vice president of women's design, noticed the jewelry in editorials. The partnership was forged in a flash; Webb met with the designers just last week.

"Everyone asks if they can buy one when they see them on my desk," Webb told StyleList. "I have three of them on right now, all layered up -- they feel so right for this moment."

While the duo races to prepare the bracelets, Reid said, "I don't know if I've stopped smiling for the past week."

Like J.Crew's other recent partner, Imogene + Willie, Frieda & Nellie was named for the founders' grandmothers. (Do we smell a family names trend?)

The bracelets will first be available at J.Crew's Soho and East Hampton stores in New York, with prices ranging from $130 to $250.

It's enough to make you dredge up your old lanyards.... And who, we wonder, will get to trade friendship bracelets with J.Crew's new president?
This isn't the first time that J.Crew has offered friendship bracelets through a partnership (refer to 2008's "Questionable Item of the Week: Friendship Bracelet for Men"post). At least these newer bracelets are cuter... but those prices are still outrageous to me! One of the benefits of friendship bracelets is that they are inexpensive gestures of kindness.

On a different topic... It's nice to see a new J.Crew executive name being mentioned: Vice President of Women's Design Marissa Webb. I wonder if this is just the beginning of seeing her name in print! :)

What are your thoughts on this latest partnership? Do you like the design of the Frieda & Nellie for J.Crew bracelets? Will you get one? If so, please share! Also, do you think we will be reading and seeing more from J.Crew's Marissa Webb?

Ends Today: Take an Extra 30% Off Final Sale

Just a reminder that J.Crew is offering customers 30% off any purchase from their Summer Sale {no minimum} and free shipping (over $150 *after* discounts applied) with promo code EXTRA30. This offer is ends today, Thursday, 7/29/10.

I did end up getting one item: the Luxe Knit Bloomer Short (Item 26449; $45.00, now $29.99). Now before you start laughing about my purchase, hear me out on this one... I like to wear shorts underneath my dresses. (Especially J.Crew's baby doll dresses like the Lobster Dress, where you can't even tell I am wearing shorts.) Right now I use a great pair of black Reebok running shorts. However, I needed a lighter color pair to wear under my lighter color dresses. So I got a pair of these shorts in Soft Dove from J.Crew hoping they will work. Wearing shorts under dresses sounds a bit weird, I know. But they actually make me feel super comfortable (and they are much easier to wear then Spanx).

Will you be taking advantage of this promotion? Are there any sale items you are interested in getting before the sale ends?

J.Crew's Questionable Styling

Over the weekend, I picked up a copy of the latest August catalog. Overall, I am enjoying it all— from the colors, the outfits, and the overall layout.

As I was flipping through, one of the images caught my eye... and not in a good way. The following is on page 86:
At first glance, this image seems fine. Upon closer look, there is a "what-the-@#.&. is she wearing?" moment. That is right! She is not wearing the upper portion of her gown. Instead she chooses to have it laying around her stomach like (1) it's extra cloth that someone forgot to remove or (2) it's another option to wear the dress. In either case, I think it looks weird.

I guess J.Crew's attempt to go up-scale with their wedding dresses also means weirdly styled photos. Call me a traditionalist, but I like it when a model/bride actually wears the dress (and the whole dress!)

What are your thoughts on the image? Do you like the way it's styled? Did you notice it?

Be Aware of eBay Listings for Codes

I often check eBay to see if there is an item from previous seasons that I missed in my J.Crew Collection. What I have come across is something that I thought I would bring to light: selling codes that are already published on J.Crew's website!

There are some eBay sellers who are charging users to get a J.Crew online coupon code for 30% off + Free shipping & handling. The best part is the description states the code is "Valid through 7-29-10 - SO PLEASE HURRY!!!". Clearly the code they are talking about is the current EXTRA30 promotional code.

They are even using images for their listings that I created exclusively, with J.Crew's stock photos of course. (Like the one above is currently being used. I created it for the September 5, 2008 "J.Crew's Fall Looks For Women {Do you like?}" post.)

I never saw public codes being sold like this before. I think one possible explanation is that some customers are selling their unique J.Crew catalog codes on eBay. (Incidentally, I find those listings to be fine and can be a win-win for everyone involved.) I think some eBay sellers are hoping potential customers are confusing the unique J.Crew catalog codes for these universally public ones.

Again, I just wanted to make you all aware of it so you don't spend money on information that is already public and more importantly, free for everyone! :)

J.Crew Spotted in Oprah Magazine

A big "thanks!" to Desert Flower, who not only let us know about a J.Crew item being spotted in the August issue of Oprah Magazine, but also scanned the images for us to view! (Click on the image to see it larger.)

The page features the Glimmer Cardigan (Item 28147; $178.00). As I mentioned in an earlier post, I really like this cardigan. I know its a bit over the top with the shimmering paillettes, but that is what makes it so special.

What are your thoughts on the cardigan featured? Do you like the style with all its shimmering paillettes? If so, please share! :)

J.Crew's Jenna Lyons {success explained}

A big "thanks!" to GemTwin who shared the following article with us from Fashionista (click here to read in its entirety):
Five Keys To Jenna Lyons’ Success
By Lauren Sherman
July 15, 2010

Jenna Lyons was named president of J.Crew yesterday. The news arrives after several consecutive raises and bonuses for the creative director. Want to get where Jenna is someday? Here are five key components of her success.

1. A Great Mentor. What can we say? Mickey Drexler is a retailing genius. He recognized Jenna’s talent in 2003 and helped her to design not only for her customer, but herself. The reason J.Crew works so well is because the designers actually wear and like the clothes that they design. Not so with plenty of other high street brands.

2. Consistency. Jenna’s been working at J.Crew since the early nineties, and while we’re sure she’s had plenty of offers to work for other designers and retailers, she’s stuck around, slowly moving up the ranks. Now, I’m not advocating sticking with a dead-end job, but it does feel like people tend to hop scotch from company-to-company without really considering the consequences these days. In the past, my mentors have said to me, “Don’t leave a job until you’ve stopped learning.” Just think how different high street fashion would be if Jenna had left J.Crew four or five years out of school.

3. Modesty. Jenna may be a tough boss (we’ve heard as much), but she’s also incredibly modest and thankful for the talent around her. I’ve seen her at functions introducing herself to prestigious, higher-end designers, and she’s always so excited and honored to meet them, even if she is at their caliber (and probably much better-paid). She’s also quick to credit her team, from the designers to the stylists, for the great collections J.Crew puts out each season.

4. Some Semblance of Work/Life Balance.
Have you seen Jenna’s husband? He’s like, ridiculously good looking. And her kid is pretty perfect. But that’s not the point–Mr. Jenna could be an ogre, and the kid a terror. It would still be impressive that Jenna decided to not give up on having a family and a life outside of J.Crew. So many people–women and men–are miserable in their personal lives. And that most certainly affects their performance at work.

5. A Great Eye. I mean, really. That’s what it really comes down to. She knows what she likes, she knows what she doesn’t like, and she’s great at interpreting high fashion and high style (two separate things, mind you) for a mass audience. Think about the collaborations J.Crew is doing–Fenton/Fallon, Essie, Miriam Haskell. These are calculated by someone who knows what she likes better than 99.9% of the population. And she knows what they’re going to like, too.
What are your thoughts on the article? Any points you found particularly interesting? Anything you disagreed or agreed with? :)

J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs!}

Preface: A big "thanks!" to Cass (in this post) who suggested a "weekly 'Did you try on/receive any JC items this week?' post where we could all "deposit" our reviews for various items". I think it is a brilliant idea. Hopefully this will help out our fellow JCAs! :)

This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.

So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.

In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)

NYT's Critical Shopper Talks J.Crew Bridal Boutique

"Thanks!" to many of you, including Robin, Antonia, wellfedfred, Raina, & Heidi, who let us know about an article over at the Critical Shopper from the New York Times (click here to read it in its entirety):
Calling Indie Brides and D.I.Y.-ers
By Ruth La Ferla

July 20, 2010

“TIGHTER, tighter.” Elizabeth Lippman was rasping instructions to Marcey, a sales assistant. Quick to oblige, Marcey adjusted the clamps on her gown to give it its requisite cling. “I feel like Scarlett O’Hara,” Ms. Lippman murmured. Sure, but could she breathe? “That’s irrelevant!” she said.

After all, you don’t get married every day. And Ms. Lippman was determined to make the most of her mid-September nuptials in a dress that stuck like shrink-wrap to her curves.

We were admiring her reflection in a three-way mirror downstairs at the J.Crew bridal boutique on Madison Avenue, lounging in the shop’s sanctum sanctorum, a hushed gray-on-taupe salon accented with a cinnabar-tone screen. Otherwise, it was as spare as a cave. The understatement was echoed upstairs, where herringbone floors, bouquets of pink peonies and shelves lined with distressed-leather volumes beckon to brides with an eye to tradition.

Any suggestion, though, that the shop caters expressly to debs was undercut by playfully insolent merchandising. Mannequins slouched or sat cross-legged, their turnouts much in keeping with the studiedly raffish aesthetic of Jenna Lyons, the company’s creative director and newly named president. A tulle skirt was accessorized with arresting incongruity by a cotton flak jacket; a bouffant skirt was paired with a black cashmere sweater and pearls, in “a totally cute riff,” Ms. Lippman observed, on Sharon Stone at the Oscars, famously pairing a Gap T-shirt with her Valentino skirt.

J. Crew, which has been in the bridal business online since 2004 but opened this store only in May, is courting fashion indies, brides like Ms. Lippman, who envision their weddings — the invitations, the flowers, the gowns — as pristine canvases to dress up as their own.

Take-charge moms, who tend to hijack such proceedings, would be redundant here. Instead a small squadron of advisers offers styling suggestions intended to supply character and inventiveness to gowns that are fetching in a nondescript way.

Shown by appointment, the dresses are plain by design. “Bodies,” as they are known in garment speak, vary from voluminous sailcloth gowns to silky bias-cut Jean Harlow shapes. A regal tiered column caught Ms. Lippman’s eye, never mind its $3,500 price tag.

Could she have a closer look? Well, really, there wasn’t much point. “With expensive dresses we only make one in each size,” said Noelle, Marcey’s otherwise accommodating other half. The gown was out of stock. “Once its gone, it’s gone,” she added, slightly more boastful than sorry. The shop carries a strictly limited selection of gowns in the $3,000-to-$4,000 range.

OF course, there were plenty of other “girls,” as the dresses are known. Although her wedding will take place at a seaside retreat in Montauk, N.Y., Ms. Lippman, a photographer who is a frequent contributor to The New York Times, was holding out for full-on glamour. A beach dress? “Forget it. I want a gown.”

“O.K., let’s start with Sasha,” Noelle offered soothingly, whisking into the fitting room a strapless silk taffeta ball gown tagged at a relatively modest $1,500. Though Ms. Lippman had pointedly specified that she wears a Size 4 or 6, the dress was a sample Size 8, requiring Marcey to make vigorous adjustments with a set of clamps.

“The fit is fine,” Ms. Lippman insisted, gasping, “so long as I hold my Venus-on-the-clamshell pose.” Marcey, meanwhile, drew out a succession of sashes — one with a fatigued-looking dahlia stitched to its side ($125), another encrusted with jet ($295) — to define the waistline and add some oomph.

The Goddess, the Allegra and the Tulip were brought out in quick succession, Ms. Lippman darting into the fitting room and reappearing each time in a look more subdued than the last. Assessing an A-line gown made of crinkled chiffon ($1,800), she was skeptical.

“Definitely this needs work,” she said of the dress, which indeed had the charm of a chenille bedspread. The extensive tailoring that might have lent it some allure would have set her back an extra $500, at least.

There are distinct advantages to shopping here, not least the hyper-attentive service and speedy delivery. If a dress is in inventory, it is shipped in four to seven days, we were told. Upstairs, an array of accessories and underpinnings, including Wolford tights, sequined tap pants and Miriam Haskell for J. Crew multistrand pearls, are red-carpet-worthy. And although corseting is built into many of the gowns and bridesmaids’ dresses here, the shop stocks a robust selection of Spanx.

Alterations, however, are not on the menu. “That’s not the business we’re in,” Marcey said bluntly.
Hmm. ... “They expect you to make the adjustments,” Ms. Lippman mused.

In recent years J. Crew has tweaked its offerings to cater to more rarefied tastes. But it’s unlikely that any amount of clever styling will persuade some clients to pay caviar prices for a brand that is founded on khakis and tees.

The thought seemed to give Ms. Lippman pause, but she went on shopping nonetheless, her head turned by a vest made of pink Mongolian lamb ($895). Told that it was out of stock, she was relieved.

“It’s O.K. to like this,” she consoled herself. “After all, it’s not for sale.”
...
AMBIENCE Inspired by a Parisian salon, the store is a model of calm decorum, relieved here and there by playful downtown touches.

EXTRAS You don't have to be a bride to linger over the diva-esque brooches, chokers and ear drops, or the lingerie, so raffiné you might be tempted to wear it as outerwear.

SERVICE Sisterly. The styling is collaborative. As one client noted, "It lets the bride in on her own transformation."
"Hmm" is about right for me. The service & attention at the store sounds exceptional. (Although it is appointment only. Right now, they are booked solid for a few months.) However, I am less excited about only having one of each dress and not offering alterations.

What are your thoughts on the article's take of the Wedding Boutique on Madison Avenue? Are you excited about its arrival? Do you think you will shop there? :)

Starting Today: Take an Extra 30% Off Final Sale

A big "thanks!" to many of you, including flygurl, Janet, Marietta, & Ketan, as well as Heidi (in this post), and Kristen (in this post), who let us know about another offer from J.Crew.

J.Crew is offering customers 30% off any purchase from their Summer Sale {no minimum} and free shipping (over $150 *after* discounts applied) with promo code EXTRA30. This offer is good through this Thursday, 7/29/10.

I am happy that this a-m-a-z-i-n-g offer is back online. However, if you live near a brick & mortar (B&M) store, it may be worth a visit. Although, the stock at your local B&M is probably no where near what it is online, there are better deals to be had. Just like many of you have reported, the following are some price discrepancies (before 30% off is applied too!):
  • Spots and Sparkles Cami (Item 27283; $98.00, now $49.99)— $9.99 at B&M
  • Natalia Dip-Dyed Leather Ballet Flats (Item 26277; $118.00, now $89.99)— $29.99 at B&M
  • Natalia Dip-Dyed Satin Ballet Flats (Item 26276; $118.00, now $89.99)— $29.99 at B&M
  • J.Crew Hidden Pearl Ribbon Necklace (now $19.99)— $9.99 at B&M
  • Twirled Metal and Crystal Necklace (Item 30691; $49.50)— $9.99 at B&M
  • Spring Buffalo Check Scarf (Item 23284; $42.50, now $29.99)— $14.99 at B&M
It seems like J.Crew has a lot of Summer merchandise they have to move quickly to make room for Fall.
Will you be taking advantage of this promotion? Are there any sale items you are interested in getting?

J.Crew Spotted in InStyle Magainze

A big "thanks!" to Desert Flower, who not only let us know about a few J.Crew & Madewell items being spotted in the August issue of InStyle, but also scanned the images for us to view! (Click on the image to see it larger.)

The page on the left shows J.Crew's Linen Silk-Pocket Cardigan (Item 25772; $88.00, now $49.99). J.Crew describes this cardigan as:
A design darling made of light and airy linen with unexpectedly refined pockets fashioned from silk habotai and real shell buttons (both dyed to match), this statement sweater is destined to be a weekend bag necessity—because it looks spectacular with absolutely everything. V-neck. Long sleeves. Hits below hip. Import. Dry clean.
The cardigan is pretty "meh" for me. It seems way too long and it's a bit too see-through for my liking.

The page on the right shows the Boys' Thomas Mason® Fabric Shirt in Classic White (Item 14345; $78.00). J.Crew describes this shirt from Crewcuts as:
Precision-tailored in two-ply Italian cotton fabric from the Thomas Mason mill in England, weaver of premier shirting since 1796. It's the same quality we use for our men's collection. Finished with our own bespoke-inspired signature details, like genuine mother-of-pearl buttons. Point collar. Part of the Crewcuts Collection. Import. Machine wash. Available in select stores.
I love that the stylists from InStyle decided to literally "borrow from the boys"— and they do mean boys! ;) Good for them as it is a whole lot cheaper than the adult version! :)

What are your thoughts on the cardigans featured? Do you like the partnership with Mason? If so, please share! :)

J.Crew Updates Website with New Arrivals!

"Thanks!" to many of you, including Jordyn, Marietta, & Irina, as well as GigiOfCa & Christy (in this post), who let us know that J.Crew had an update to its website today (click here to view online).

There are some new arrivals for men (click here) & women (click here). {wahoo!} Of course, Crewcuts got updated too (click here). Even the J.Crew Collection (click here) displays new arrivals for Fall.
J.Crew has also provided the latest catalog online (click here to view). The catalog is another destination one. The images of Lake Powell in Arizona are beautiful! There is also a new stand alone catalog for Men & Crewcuts. As for the new arrivals...

Liking! The Bettina Cami (Item 28505; $79.50) looks super cute! It's the cousin of the Victoria Cami with lace! Also, the Glimmer Cardigan (Item 28147; $178.00) looks stunning. I know its a bit over the top with the shimmering paillettes, but that is what makes it so special.

Messy! I am sure some of you will love the Dolmina Shirt-Jacket (Item 28735; $138.00), but I do not. It just seems like a lot it would take a lot of effort to make it work. Where do I begin with the Taffeta Seine Vest (Item 29082; $650.00)? It looks like it belongs on a villain from either the Wizard of Oz or Flash Gordon. In either case, not good. Not good at all.

How much!?! Did you see the Burnout Baseball Tee (Item 29452; $59.50)? It's a cute tee, but not for almost $60. I don't understand what's so special to make it cost that much.

Incidentally, you know its time for Fall at J.Crew not just by their clothes but by how they lay out their clothes. They split up Jackets & Outerwear into two separate clothing categories again. (Which is what they do for the colder weather months. During the warmer weather months, they merge the two.)

What items are you most excited about and why? Which items are you surprised (or not surprised) to see? Which items did you hope would be included? Were you expecting a bigger roll-out today? Also, did you receive the latest catalog? :)

Darlings, is it time for a J.Crew coupon code?

Yes, it is that wonderful time!

A big "thanks!" goes t0 Rose, who is super nice to share with us that J.Crew is offering free shipping on orders of $150+ with promo code RMA43L. This offer expires 7/26/10.

P.S. I have noticed that other blogs &
websites post J.Crew codes & coupons *after* this blog does. If you happen to get codes & coupons from the JCA blog & post them at your site, could you please give give a "shout out" to the JCA blog? This way more JCAs are inclined to share. TIA! :)

J.Crew Spotted in Ladies Home Journal

A big "thanks!" to Desert Flower, who not only let us know about two new J.Crew items being spotted in the August 2010 issue of Ladies Home Journal, but also scanned the images for us to view! (Click on the image to see it larger.)

Guess what? I love both items! So far, so good J.Crew. :)

The item featured in the left image is a bright blue wool Winter coat ($298.00). I love the stand up collar and the chic, double-breasted design.

The item featured in the right image is a classic leather bag ($268.00). What I am loving is the double zipper feature on the sides. This bag looks like it can hold a lot and in different compartments. It also reminds me a bit of the Jaime Bag with its shape and handles (albeit a much bigger version of the bag). :)

What are your thoughts on the Winter jacket and leather bag featured in the magazine? Do you think you will get a coat from J.Crew's Fall & Winter season Collection? Please share! :)

J.Crew's Cardigan in Elle Magazine

A big "thanks!" to Desert Flower again, who not only let us know about a J.Crew item being spotted in the latest issue of Elle, but also scanned the images for us to view! (Click on the image to see it larger.)

The J.Crew item is a cotton-blend cardigan with chiffon trim and retails for $88.00. It appears to be an upcoming new arrival.

The contrast color around the placket (I hope this is the right term) is lovely. Adding the chiffon makes it a must-see for me!

What are your thoughts on the cardigan featured? Do you like the placket contrast? Will you get it? If so, please share! :)

J.Crew Publishes The Thread {first edition}

"Thanks!" to many of you, including Irina, as well as Debby & Tracey G. (in this post), Suzy & Silver_Lining (in this post), who let us know about J.Crew's latest mailing— the Thread— to customers.

Imagine my surprise to find a copy waiting for me today too! It was inside a white envelope so I didn't know what it was at first. The newsletter is quite large, with each paging measuring approximately 9 x 12.5 inches. Of course, I rushed to scan it so you can all view it too. :)
There are four pages to the first edition of the Thread. Just click on any of the images to view it larger.

On the top of the front page, next to the image of Jenna Lyons, it reads:
We wanted to create something special for our most loyal customers: a sort of all-access pass to what's going on in J.Crew's world.

In this issue (and future ones), we'll give you a peek at upcoming collections, stories about our travels and inspirations and more.

I hope this behind-the-scenes look piques your interest and gives you a sense of our world... stay tuned for more to come.

Jenna Lyons
Creative Director
I have to say I love it! Although it's a bit dated as it references Tracey Gardner in the issue as President still. I guess her resignation was a bit of a shock to J.Crew as well! ;) Overall, I really enjoy the first issue and can't wait to see what future issues have to offer.

Did you get a copy of the Thread? What are your thoughts on the issue? Do you think J.Crew should continue this latest marketing concept?

"Thanks!" to many of you, including Marietta, who let us know about J.Crew's latest email.

J.Crew Spotted in Harper's Bazaar

Another "thanks!" to Gem Twin, who not only let us know about two J.Crew items being spotted in the latest issue of Harper's Bazaar, but also scanned the images for us to view! (Click on the image to see it larger.)

The image on the left features a yet-to-released Jacket ($325.00). The face-framing collar is a stunner!

The image on the right features a plaid check long sleeve shirt. "Thanks!" to Andrea in this post who correctly pointed out its the Sconset Plaid Shirt (Item 26019; $69.50, now $19.99). The colors in the shirt really bring alive the camel-ton coat in the outfit.

I really like both items! Both patterns (of the jacket and shirt) are absolutely darling. I can't wait to see the rest of the Fall Collection at J.Crew now! :)

What are your thoughts on the jacket featured? Do you think you will pre-order it? Do you own or tried on the Sconset Plaid Shirt? If so, please share! :)

J.Crew Spotted in Vogue

A big "thanks!" to Gem Twin, who not only let us know about a J.Crew item being spotted in the latest issue of Vogue, but also scanned the images for us to view! (Click on the image to see it larger.)

The item is J.Crew's Jenna Cardigan (Item 24712; $70.00) in "Dark Raisin". J.Crew describes the top as the following:
Our creative director, Jenna, asked the design team to come up with the perfectly cropped cardigan to wear specifically with a dress (any dress), and voilà. Short but not too short, with a higher ribbed hem (so it's more fitted and slightly dressier), it is, indeed, absolutely perfect. Merino wool in a 14-gauge knit. Crewneck. Three-quarter sleeves. Hits above hip. Import. Dry clean. Catalog/jcrew.com only.
That cardigan is in a deliciously rich shade of violet. Although I am not a fan of the cropped cardigan, I do think the styling of that outfit in Vogue is absolutely gorgeous! :)

What are your thoughts on the cardigan featured? Do you own these Jenna Cardigans? If so, please share! :)

J.Crew Email: "All the great perks of your J.Crew Credit Card" versus "Are you missing out?"

Today is all about J.Crew's Credit Card! Look at these emails touting the benefits of signing up or already signing up.

"Thanks!" to xoxo who shared the following email listing the benefits of signing up for a J.Crew Credit Card.

xoxo also mentioned: "I had to chuckle at the last "benefit" listed as we all know that there doesn't seem to be cardmember-only sales. At least not recently." So true, so true! I laughed a bit at that line too. Thanks to the lovely JCAs on this blog, we know the last point is not exactly true. Are there even "Cardmember-only sale events" ? (Seriously, I don't know.)

"Thanks!" also to GoldCoastGal who shared the following email listing all the benefits for existing card members.

I guess this is their way to remind them how awesome having a J.Crew Credit Card is. So awesome that J.Crew's Regional Sample Sale doesn't even accept them! ;) (That last part is true. Refer here.)

I never had a J.Crew Credit Card and frankly, don't think I ever will. Sorry J.Crew, you still haven't enticed me yet. But I do look forward to your efforts and future offers. :)

Side note, look at those outfits in the emails. With long sleeve cardigans, cord pants, leather jackets, all in muted shades... Fall fashion is just around the corner!

What are your thoughts on the emails? Do you think the perks are decent enough to sign up? If you are a current card holder, would you recommend signing up for other JCAs?

J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs!}

J.Crew Regional Sample Sale {even more info}

As mentioned previously (click here & here for more info), there is a "Regional Sample Sale" in Winston-Salem, North Carolina taking place right now until July 25.

"Thanks!" to Mary who shared her following experience with the Sale for us:
First, I was shocked to learn when I got to the register that they are NOT accepting any J. Crew credit cards. Maybe that's standard procedure.

Anyway, I got to the warehouse around 9:30 and was the 15th or so person in line. They were already letting people in and I waited about 20 minutes. They apparently were letting people in early.

The sale turned out to be a lot like others I've read about. Merchandise divided by men, women and children in boxes with sizes labeled on boxes, but all of that became scrambled by the first hour.

I'm sorry I can't give good feedback on Crewcuts and Men's, though there were a whole lot of women with children leaving with big bags and looking very happy. We were told that they will be refreshing the merchandise today at four.

There was a good selection of shirts, tees, sweaters and pants. I heard the skirts were in the same boxes with pants, but I never saw more than a few, so that was a disappointment. I also saw very few dresses and silk cami type tops. There were a few statement pieces from the current collection--the starfish dress and that mint green Chanel tweed style mini that's insanely short. But I'd say about half of the merchandise was basics from the last year--lots of gingham shirts and blazers in dark colors. One of my friends was going crazy for the cargo pants, which they had a lot of.

There was a sad table of jewelry, much of which was already falling apart and out of its nice little bags an hour into the sale.

I ran into two friends and we all ended up pretty happy, though we have very different styles and body types. Overall, the bulk of stuff seemed to be on the smaller end of the size range, though one of my friends who is very tall and wears a large snagged a gorgeous black lady day coat as well as a pretty dress and some great neon flats. I didn't see many shoes in 6-1/2 and it did seem the selection was better in the larger size range.

My final tally: three current season shirts--two in funky prints and one of the chambray work shirts, a gray V-neck cashmere sweater and blue green cashmere tee in XS, the gray print vines jacket in 2 from spring, two scarves from last season in silk and wool, the lilac print cami from spring (lots of those in camis and sweaters in small sizes) and one of the newer ruffled lightweight merino sweaters in plum all for $138, with 25 percent discount coupon from local paper.

It was a fun experience, but I have to say after an hour and a half all three of us were wearing out. (I have more stamina for shopping than anyone I know, but I'm not so used to the whole warehouse thing and can get overwhelmed) It's hot in the warehouse, though they're handing out water bottles. It was a great way to refresh my wardrobe during our hot Carolina summer and I pretty much stuck to buying things I'd liked but couldn't justify at full price.

If I were to hear they were having another one of these sales in Asheville (two and a half hours away) I don't think I'd plan a trip around it, unless there were other things I wanted to do.

Of course, you do have to be careful, particularly on the wool. I put back several cashmere sweaters that were snagged and saw a few shirts that were outright torn. The two scarves I brought home both have snags and I don't think I'll be able to give them as gifts, as I had planned. But for $15 minus 25%, I will wear them a few times and enjoy them myself.

Hope this is helpful. Happy shopping everyone!
Once again, "thanks!" to Mary for sharing. Also, make sure to check out the comments of the July 14th "JCrew Regional Sample Sale {more info}" post where other JCAs have generously shared their experiences with us too. In particular, Brittany (from that post) kindly shared:
Went early this morning! After entering you get a price sheet and a trash bag, then it's basically up to you to comb through boxes (loosely organized). The space is big, but not so huge it's not manageable. I found the best deals on shoes and cardigans, although if you're looking for winter coats and dressier dresses you're in luck as well. Cashmere is in especially good shape. Be careful as always, much of the merchandise is stained or has holes.

Here are prices: Tops (non-sweaters) $15. Bottoms: $20. Jackets: $30. Coats: $50. Sweaters: $20. Cashmere: $30. Dresses: $30. Special Occasion: $40. Wedding: $50. Shoes: $40. Wellies/Sandals/Espadrilles: $25. Flip-flops: $10. Accessories: $8. Jewlery: $10. Handbags: $20. Leather bags: $30 Swimwear: $3/piece Onepiece: $8. Men's Swim: $10. Coverups: $15. Men's Chinos: $15.

Also, a variety of sleepwear/loungewear; Crewcuts; other discounts
Lastly, if you plan on going, don't forget about using the following coupon for an additional 25% off your purchase. Click on the image itself (or here) to print it out.

The location for the store is:
1606 A Stratford Road
Across from Hanes Mall
Winston-Salem, NC 2710

Congrats to all those in the area!!! :)
