This is the weekly "Help Style Me!" post, where we can share items we are having trouble putting outfits together with. Okay - I am seriously contemplating the berry pink penil skirt. Ideas on flours to go with it, especially blazers?
ReplyDeleteIt is more like berry red, IMO. It is just sort of a dull reddish raspberry. To me that makes it really hard to pair up with anything! I realize this is the least helpful post ever, lol. Sorry.

ReplyDeleteI usually wear mine with button-downs and ballet flats, but they also look great with Tippi sweaters layered over a tank and worn with Chucks or Tretorns. The chambray shirts (Selvedge, Western, etc.) pair especially well with the Saturday Pants. HTH!
DeleteLove the fit and color of the No. 2 pencil skirt in manor purple herringbone, but I'm about to return it because I can't think of a way to style it! All I'm coming up with is caramel brown for a sweater and boots. Would love to hear some more ideas! Note that I'm generally not into pastel colors at all, so this would be a somewhat unique piece in my wardrobe.
ReplyDeleteI have that skirt and was considering returning it for the same reason but realized there's more options that just neutrals. Obviously browns and creams would look great, but I pair it with jewel tones also, like cobalt blue and emerald/jade green. I've also done mustardy yellows. Navy blue would work well too imo. HTH!

DeleteI have the unagi tweed skirt from a few years ago that is a tad brighter and I paired it with the navy/white polka dot blouse from a few years ago and leopard print shoes...here's my PV set, I think it would still work with that skirt.

Thank you so much mamakoh and shopmurphy. I tried my few navy pieces this morning and they didn't work well, but I still have hopes for my favorite neutral, charcoal. And I will certainly try mustards and cobalt blue! (no emerald tops in my collection.)

ReplyDeleteFlower Power, check out my polyvore set I made showing my favorite outfit with the skirt. My skirt is actually the deep persimmon from fall 2008, but it is practically identical to vibrant flame. The set shows it with caramel and peach colors, which I blatantly copied from the fall 2008 model pic. The red/caramel combo is one of my favorites.
DeleteThink browns and blues. I love it with navy stripes and navy polka dots or olive/brownish stripes/polka dots. Leopard if you like animal prints. Also great with denim and chambray.
DeleteI think you can wear almost any animal print, stripes, and in solids, chambray always works well as an alternative.
DeleteI have worn my vibrant flame skirt with a camel coloured sweater and coral Valentina pumps (that idea came from the catalogue), chambray, navy, leopard print, grey, brown and a light flax-type colour. I have also worn it with mint and it worked really well...I'm sure you could pull it off, specifically if it's a lighter and less saturated mint colour.
DeleteThis one is my all-time favorite JC pencil skirt! I like to wear mine with a navy button-down or sweater and a necklace made of bright turquoise beads. LOVE!
DeleteMy second favorite outfit is pairing this skirt with the black and white python-print blouise/cami from several years ago and a black merino crewneck cardi and my snowball necklace.
This year I may try something purple or berry-colored with it if I can find the right shade.
Love all of the above suggestions and will be trying them fo sho!

DeleteI also like it with navy or cobalt blue. I have it paired with a Boden silk pop spot top and navy cardi in THIS POST from March 2011. It's a post all about pairing colors with orange.
As Rose mentioned, it also goes well with animal prints. When I pair it with a cobalt blue top I usually wear a pair of leopard-print shoes like J.Crew's Juliet.
Mine is also the persimmon from 2008 and I wear it a lot more than I ever expected, I love it.
Cobalt blue is a great idea! I will try that this fall/winter with a cobalt sweater I have.

DeleteThink of it as orange and look across the color wheel to blues! You could use the cream as a third color and neutral to ground it a bit.

ReplyDeleteI would treat them as neutral. If you are not afraid of color, pink, bright green, modern red or yellow would look great I think. Or wear them with camel/brown/gray to tone them down.
DeleteI think these would like great with any bright colored top. I was also planning a conservative look with the navy tiered dot and a schoolboy. I ended up returning these because the dots on the back seam didn't line up and my husband thought they made my bum look weird! :P

ReplyDeleteI just got mine in the mail yesterday - they fit a little snug at first but I can tell they will stretch a little so I'm happy with my normal flats size at JCrew. I tried them on with my various toothpick denim and I think they look really cute! I was worried the strap around the ankle would look funky with ankle length jeans but I was pleasantly surprised. I also tried them wot shorts and liked them.
DeleteI have the version from last season. I am usually a 7.5 or 8 and took an 8 in these. I haven't broken them out yet, but plan to wear them with skinny ankle pants. I love the t-strap detail!!

I have the Jane T-strap ballet flats with the fishbone chain detail from last year as well & do you believe I've never worn them yet? I bought them @ full price right before new years & panicked because they were selling so fast & the expected ship date @ the time was April! I'm absolutely in love with them but I'm afraid to ruin them or something? They do look incredible with my Minnie's & toothpick zip cords. I too had to size up to a 9. They are narrow, but I have a narrow foot. I'm def gonna break them out this fall!
ReplyDeleteNooo! If they're narrow on you, they will be crazy narrow on me, since my foot is on the wider side of medium. I've found that J.Crew's flats this year have all been sadly very narrow.

DeleteRe: the ankle strap, I have the tan/nude color and the strap is so thin I think it's pretty unobtrusive. But my legs are also pretty short so I hadn't really thought of wearing them with skirts or dresses. I think the could work with longer legs. HTH!!
Do the wool cafe capris fit the same as the regular? Should I get the same size? Do they stretch the same or more?
ReplyDeleteThis is SORT OF off topic, but not too much: I am stuck in a watch dilemma: I have the Brompton Hobo and another staple purse with yellow gold hardware as well as much of the JCrew Jewelry with yellow gold hardware. I also have a couple of meaningful pieces that are white gold, including my wedding band and engagement ring. The question is--should I invest in a white gold/silver/stainless steel watch or a yellow gold watch? Will a silver watch clash with the gold hardware purses? Will a gold watch be out of style/dated soon? I trust the JCA's most of all, so I thought I would pose this question to you, ladies. I appreciate any feedback! Thanks!

ReplyDeleteI have a white gold wedding set as well and I wear a large gold Michael Kors watch almost every day. I also have numerous bags with gold hardware. I love the idea of a two tone watch, that has both silver and gold. That way you'd always have the perfect watch, especially if you're a bit shy about mixing metals.
