This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.
So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.
Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.
In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)
Stepped into the B&Ms to try on some not-yet-in-store items, among others, here.
ReplyDelete*That was supposed to say not-yet-online.
DeleteReviews of a few newish items, now marked down: Perfect Shirt in Small Gingham, Rugby Stripe Boatneck Top, and Shrunken Anorak HERE.
ReplyDeleteI bought the anorak. Usually a size 4 and I had to size down to an XXS. I think it's a great in between season jacket :)
DeleteI would love it if it had been treated to be water-repellant. I can't justify the cost knowing the color would run and ruin my outfit if I got caught in the rain. :(
DeleteWhy do you think the color would bleed?
DeleteSeveral reviews here.

ReplyDeleteI have some reviews on my blog.
ReplyDeleteSorry i dont have a link to it.

Since some have asked me, a review of the J.Crew in good company Jean Shop jeans here on my blog.
ReplyDeletei know some have mentioned the Madewell storyteller scarf - it is truly lovely and you can see it irl here:

There must be some new promo-priced items because the Bennett cropped chino in snowcat is marked down to $88 (before 30%) this morning.
ReplyDeleteI just posted a review of them.
Cate O is correct, there are some new Promo-priced items today. I updated the Women's list with them, which you can see here. :)
ReplyDeleteCan anybody comment on how their merino Tippi sweaters are holding up? I was thinking of purchasing one (can't decide between the crewneck and cardigan) but am a little wary of almost all JC sweaters at this point.
ReplyDeleteI bought one in Fiesta Purple last year when they first rolled out. Color is still nice and rich, shape is as good as new - no stretching or drooping. Very slight pilling in the armpit area and on the right hip where I carry my purse. Overall I'd give it a good rating, I have never had a problem w/ J.Crew's 100% Merino. I would definitely buy more of the Tippis if I lived in a cooler climate (the crewneck, that is, I have yet to see the cardigans in person). HTH!
DeleteI bought one last year in the camel and i would say there is a light pilling.
DeleteThe shape and color are still fine.
The ones i bought this year i havent worn yet.
I got the black one and wore it a lot. I haven't noticed any pilling at all on mine.
DeleteI agree with Whitney -- I am a serial carrier of a very large purse, so pretty much all my sweaters end up pilly under my right arm. Nothing that can't be solved with one of those sweater shavers though.
DeleteI'm a total Tippi devotee -- I think I have 12 of them now, all merino, and the navy linen striped one is en route. If the neckline were even slightly higher or less open, I don't think I'd like it as much. I almost never wear crewnecks, yet I love these. HTHs!
Huge Tippi fan here. The ones I have from last year are holding up nicely IMO. I don't have any from this year except the blue one w/little grey hearts all over and haven't worn it much since it's so hot here. I also got the cotton ones from Factory and the color is a little washed out in them, but I didn't wash them gently enough. If I had stuck w/cold and hung dry, I'm sure they'd look better.
DeleteI bought my first tippi last fall. I like the style and I think I hand washed mine but am I only one who think the merino doesn't breathe at all? I sometimes get sweat marks showing when I wear it (mortifying!). I was thinking I'd try the cashmere Tippi this fall instead.
Deleteanother Tippi fan here...I have several of these and have found them to hold up well. I wash them on delicate in cold water and haven't had any issues yet. I found they shrunk a tad in the wash but I was fine with that since I do find them to run large.
DeleteCould anyone please comment on how the audra sandals fit and if they're comfortable? I may have ordered a half-size too large out of desperation. :]
ReplyDeleteI ordered my usual size and wished I had ordered 1/2 size up, but I have wide feet and only my right foot seems to have grown/spread a bit post-pregnancy. I don't think the 1/2 size up will be too big on you, unless you have really narrow feet. Good luck!
DeleteHere are the Audra sandals in gold. I think they fit TTS, so no need to size up.
DeleteI got my usual size and they fit pretty good. Don't love patent in summer, but so far, they've been comfortable enough b/c the straps are so narrow.
DeleteThanks for your help! :] *crossing my fingers they fit*

ReplyDeleteI've posted reviews of the factory puffer vest and the maritime dress here.
ReplyDeleteOT: Natalie Morales and Savannah Guthrie of the Today show must love J. Crew too! The other day Savannah was wearing the No. 2 Pencil Skirt in Deck Stripe in Tangier Orange. Today, Natalie is wearing the No. 2 Pencil Skirt in Caribbean Tweed!
ReplyDeleteIn one of the interviews today, Natalie was wearing the gondola striped shirt!
DeleteI see them both in JC all the time!
DeleteMe too! And, both of them always look great!!!
DeleteFeatured post of the no. 2 pencil skirt in deck stripe today on my post! click here
ReplyDeleteI reviewed some dresses and shoes that are on sale on my blog.
ReplyDeleteOver the weekend, I picked up a pair of black Cafe Capris and the black and cream houndstooth sweatshirt, which wasn't on the floor yet. Loved it!!! Looks so nice yet so comfy!
ReplyDeleteCan anyone tell me how the Mona pumps run? I am looking to get the black/camel colorblock pair...I usually wear an 8.5 in Cece flats. TIA!
I wear a 8.5 in leather Ceces and bought 8.5 in patent Monas because they do stretch a bit but if I were buying leather monas I would buy size 9. I took size 9 in leather Valentinas too.
DeleteThank you for your reply! I just received my black patent Monas in 8.5. They are really nice, and a bit big in back, but I am certain a size 8 would be too small. I am debating on whether I will keep them or try them out in regular leather instead. The price was so great on the patent leather, I hate to spend full price on the regular leather pair. I may just look into a heel insert to adjust the fit.
DeleteThanks again!
You guys. Last week I tried on the Allie dress on a whim, and OH MY GOSH! It has got to be the most flattering dress ever! Another woman with a completely different body type was trying it on too, and she looked amazing too! I immediately went home and bought the Basket weave shift dress, which is the same dress only in the summer colors/fabric, in both colors! It's still available in sizes 6-14 in case anyone is on the fence. I'll be buying the Allie in likely multiple colors later on in the fall.
ReplyDeleteI liked the look of this dress a lot too and I reviewed it in my latest post. In my opinion, it is flattering if you are not very tall and not long-waisted since it is too short. (I am 5'6").
Deletehave the basketweave and the allie...both are amazing. Haven't work the Allie out yet, but got lots of compliments of the basketweave in yellow throughout the summer. Highly recommend both!
Deletealicialoveseveryone....The Audra sandal only comes in full sizes. I ordered my higer full size. In other words, sometimes I can wear a 9 1/2....I ordered a 10 in these sandals. They are comfortable and fit me well. Because of the design of the shoes, they "travel" a little while walking, but the ankle straps keep them in place pretty well. For the price, I was happy with them. Hope this helps.
ReplyDeleteFor some reason my comment box isn't coming up on this computer...
Deleteanyway, a few reviews.
my most recent order will be up in a few days (its on the way), so i'll be putting some reviews up on the Altuzarra for J.Crew Serge sweater, Sailor boatneck tee, Perfect-fit stripe cardigan, Altuzarra for J.Crew Patricia top, Polly popover in silk-screen dot. Previous reviews already up include:
Liberty Perfect Shirt in Leo Scarlet (97120)
Schoolboy Blazer in Navy (28233)
Tippi Sweater in Polka Dot (11808)
Optic Dot Boatneck tee (99991)
Cashmere Two-Tone Sweatshirt (62105)
Chunky Cashmere V-neck (75939)
Chambray Bayou Tunic (68126)
Camp popover (85213)
Lula leopard ballet flats (81132)
All of those reviews HERE
I have the camp popover and even tho it is sheer I have worn it a lot this summer and love it. I'm waiting for my chunky cashmere vneck to arrive. Thanks for the pictures. I had no idea what it really looked like.
DeleteLast week I posted review of new, purple tweed not yet online pencil skirt. Check it out HERE.
ReplyDeleteCeCe ballet flats. tts to smallish. I bought the studded black leather and they have 3 studs peeling up makes the shoes look old and crummy. They have been worn about 15 times. Won't buy the CeCe with embellishments anymore. I do like the look and feel so I would buy them again just plain.
ReplyDeleteGot the no. 2 pencil skirt in deck stripe yesterday in the larger of the two sizes I wear in the pencil skirts - fits great! Also tried the jackie pullover in the xs but thankfully it wasn't final sale - it's going back and I'm going to try the small. I take an xs in the jackie shell but the pullover was too tight across my shoulders and a bit short in the arms. The weight of the sweater is just perfect and fabric feels wonderful. SHOPNOW does work on the promo price so it's an absolute steal right now.
ReplyDeleteI didn't know that the SHOPNOW code worked on promo priced items. Thanks for the tip. I've had a jackie pullover in my cart for a few days, debating on whether or not to purchase it.
DeleteI have a few reviews on my blog: http://vivalabeagle.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteI have to say that now we are into August, I am glad I ordered a few of the items I really wanted because they are my go-to items but I cannot wait for September items to start arriving...I'm over pencil skirts. I'm over wool pants. Now, I'm just looking to add items that will go with what I already have: sweaters, tees, blouses.
I posted this in an earlier post. I did stop in my b&m and tried on some new arrivals. The hits for me were the Giraffe silk blouse w/the navy at the hem and cuff. I love this and am debating if I should buy now or try to wait it out for sale. What do you all think? I'd say it's TTS to small. I took the larger of my 2 top sizes and don't think I could size down b/c it felt snug under the arms - on me at least. I tried the snake print skirt on in the larger of my 2 pencil sizes and it fit w/plenty of room. I *might* have been able to size down, but it probaby would have pulled across my tummy. But it was roomy in the waist - usually a problem for me. it does feel *thinner* than the wool pencils, but I think for this pattern it's just right. I think styling would be an issue for me b/c I'm not as creative as most of you here. In any event, I'm not buying it b/c I have absolutely no need in my life for this item, but I really liked it. Those were the 2 items I liked best.
ReplyDeleteI liked the zebra top, but found the fit a bit of a problem. My usual 2 felt a little blousy and not in a good way. The 0 looked great on, but I could barely pull it over my shoulders without help and I feared I'd end up ripping it after a few wearings. My shoulders are pretty narrow and I'm short-waisted, so slouchy cuts can look too boxy. May not be a problem for someone with average shoulders. I wanted so badly for it to work--for one thing, it's brown, not camel, which is more flattering to me. Also, I liked it with jeans as well as the pencil skirts and new wool capris.
ReplyDeleteMy first SHOPNOW order arrived yesterday and the packing slip did not show that anything I bought was labeled final sale. WIN!
ReplyDeleteGot the ribbon stripe boatneck tee and really like it; the arms seem just a tad tighter than the way the body fits -- does anyone else think so?
Also the teal Heart Me Tippi with the pink heart. Sad that the pink was just a touch off from a perfect match to last year's double-serge wool skirt in Neon Azalea, but I may still wear them together. It seemed to fit a bit looser through the body than my other Tippis. Such a cute sweater, but I admit I felt a little goofy when I looked in the mirror. Hoping I can work it with pencil skirts this fall/winter. Stay tuned!
The 5" chino short in vivid lime -- all the other shorts I have bought this year in size 8 have been a bit loose on me in the waist, but with this pair, I can't gain an ounce or they'll be too tight. Argh. But will look so cute with a chambray shirt as styled on the website! No more 3" shorts for me, those days are gone. :P
5" chino short in neon pink (I forget the color name) -- yes, I am a sheep, I bought these after seeing them on Kelly Ripa paired with a charcoal gray top. HOO BOY are these shorts BRIGHT pink! I know they would be bright but they surprised even me with their ... flourescence. Definitely do not buy them unless you're comfortable wth people staring, lol.
Also, I saw some Crewcuts tees this morning I hadn't seen before from a brand called Out of Print ... classic book covers screen-printed on. And $1 for every one sold is given to charity. I bought two for my son, will be very interested to see what they're like....
thanks for the tip on the crewcut tees! just ordered two for my son :)
DeleteElaine - this year is my first foray in to buying shorts again and I had the same experience with sizing...ordered the khaki 5" shorts and found them to be tighter than the hot pink ones (which yes, are PINK). I paired my pink shorts with a black JC favorite tank with thin silver stripes in it...it was cute. Didn't see the pic of Kelly Ripa, will have to search it out :)
DeleteIf the packing slip doesn't indicate final sale for any item does that mean I can return the items and get a refund?
DeleteI was able to go to a b&m but sadly didn't take anything home even after my long drive. I am trying to stick to my formal fall purchase plan. :) Thanks to FFM's great posts I stayed strong!
ReplyDeleteAllie dress - loved the dress on the hanger but on me it is way too short (at 5'7"). I don't understand why they would make a wool dress so short! I have the basketweave shift dress in retro lemon because I couldn't resist the yellow color but I had the hem let down. It didn't look as good after (probably no one else would notice) but it felt better/acceptable length for summer. At least it is cotton and in the summer I was willing to wear a shorter dress. A short and sleeveless wool dress doesn't make sense to me in general.
Giraffe silk shirt - I really liked the shirt but as Jruby18 said I found it a little small. The size 2 was too tight in the shoulders but the body looked better. The size 4 felt much better but the body was looser than I hoped. I am hoping it makes it to sale because I did like it but found it not worth full price. The silk was quite thin IMO.
Blythe in polka dot - It was sheer and felt thin although it is probably the same weight as the other blythes. I took my 'normal' size for the blythe blouses. My concern is when the polka dot craze ends I'm not sure I would still wear this.
Optic dot shirt - I took my normal JC tee size. It was more sheer than anticipated. At first I sized up one but that was too loose on me. I thought it was a very cute shirt and it looks great on many JCAs reviews but I didn't like it on me.
Looking forward to the next rollouts! HTH
Given the comments I'm seeing here about the Giraffe top, maybe it will make it to sale due to the weird fit issues.... I hope so!
DeleteThe idea with a super-short wool dress is that you'll layer it with tights and be more OK with the length, I guess.
DeleteGot back from the J. Crew Factory Store in Limerick. Great sales. Red ballet flats--marked down to 39.99 and 40% off that price. Paisley scarf marked down to 19.99 and 40% off THAT. Factory Mona pumps (but not the mona moniker)--neutral suede for 94.00. I have to add that my arch is very high and my foot is narrow so it is difficult for me to find heels that fit. These fit like a charm. Last week at KOP I purchased the navy wool schoolboy blazer. Paid full price but worth it. Snagged orange No. 2 Pencil skirt for 19.99 at KOP. Have my eyes on the cashmere pullovers. Ridiculously overpriced--am wondering how those overpriced pullovers will wear with time. Anyone out there have any thoughts on the pullovers?
ReplyDeleteGood to know as I have a similar foot. I'll give those pumps a try.
DeleteNot sure if this belongs here, but does anyone have any recommendations (or reviews of!) leather treatment products or regimens they'd like to recommend for jcrew colored leather products? I'd like to keep my new cece flats and tillary purse looking "new" as long as possible. TIA!
ReplyDeletePeople on the Coach pages use a product called Apple care. I have yet to buy and treat any bag but I really should.
DeleteThe purse forum has a bunch of recommendations for caring for colored leather bags... I would check there
DeleteJust received the stripe derby dress. It was final sale AND I never tried it on but really wanted to. I'm happy to say that I LOVE IT! I'm pear shaped and I went with the same size as the lucille dresses and it fits really well. The bad news - I also received the Drapey elbow tee which I love but the byzantine blue looks purple. :(
ReplyDeleteJust received cafe capris in Pop Art polka dot-love! Material is not exactly than I expected, I thought it would be more of a cotton sateen, but I am thrilled that there is no gapping at the waist. My navy long sleeve Collection tee is already sealed up to go back. The material was thin and looked more threadbare than some of my vintage tees that have managed to survive a few washings, the hems of the sleeves didn't match up evenly at the seams and frankly I've felt more glamoureuse in some of my old knit pajama tops.
ReplyDeleteDavid, what is the material like? I am hoping for more of a textured material but am assuming it is just the typical cafe capri material.
DeleteHi J.CrewJD, The pants are 98% cotton, 2% stretchy stuff. It is a twill fabric, not a textured cotton like the crazy black, purple and citron paisley skirt/capris(I wore those today), but a similar weight twill of the cafe capris' material with the red and white lattice with the little blue flower inside, or the feather paisley skirt. Sorry, I am not good with all the names. I've only ordered patterned capris this year. I've discovered they hide many sins, dog hair the chief among them.
DeleteBoyfriend cashmere sweater in feathered emerald is a true emerald. I thought it was more pine on the website. I have one in a size Medium that I will sell to a JCA before I send it back to warehouse. Email karenturk1@gmail.!
ReplyDeleteI'd love that Allie dress....if I was 9" shorter. Can't JC make dresses for people over 5 ft tall. Really. It's frustrating. I doubt if I will every be able to buy a dress from them. Humph.
ReplyDeleteJust received my most recent extra 30% off order of the colorblock sequin tank in sea mist, minnie pant in vibrant flame, and wool crepe pencil skirt in decadent red.
ReplyDeleteThe only final sale thing was the wool crepe pencil skirt, which I absolutely love. Fits TTS, with a slightly wider waistband than the No. 2. I'm very pleased with this.
As other JCAs have reported, the colorblock sequin tank runs a little big. The medium has a drapey fit, and now I kind of wish that I had tried the small on in-store for comparison. I'll probably just keep the medium, though, as it is still flattering.
And the minnie pant in vibrant flame is certainly vibrant! I love these pants, and this is my 4th color. Not as versatile as the black, and a little harder to pull off than the deep orchid, but still a winner.
BTW, did anyone see that there is a new bi-stretch wool minnie on the website? love the cabernet color!
Since there don't appear to be reviews on this item... I just got the double-breasted gold-button blazer (21114) in burgundy since my order came today. I was hesitant about ordering it, but it was a great price with the 30% off and it was returnable since it was promo priced. After looking at photos on the model, I was nervous it was going to be too red (I already have a red schoolboy blazer), but it is a gorgeous shade of burgundy similar to a burgundy you'd see on a Burberry piece. The fit is great too since it isn't boxy. And although it is poly/cotton jersey, it is a heavier weight and is so comfy. It feels like a sweatshirt, but looks like a blazer. Hope that helps anyone who's on the fence about it. I highly recommend it.
ReplyDeleteReviews up for the long no 2. pencil skirt, perfect fit ballet button tee, Factory merino pullover sweater & anchors aweigh tee in this post.
ReplyDeleteReceived my pre-ordered herringbone jewel-collar sweater today. I absolutely love the sweater (I agree that it is somewhat loose through the body, but that doesn't bother me--I took my usual size), but it is SO ITCHY. I can wear cashmere and merino with no issues, but this was really bad. I'm going to see if I can find something thin to wear underneath, but it needs to come right up to the top of the neckline without showing since the part underneath the collar is the itchiest because of the extra weight.
ReplyDeleteI also got a card with two one-time-use codes for 20% off a $150 purchase, one that says "FOR YOU" and one that says "FOR A FRIEND"--has anyone else received one of these? If my mom or sister doesn't claim the "FOR A FRIEND" code I will post it here.
If so, may I please have it? :)
DeleteReceived the Peter Pan Collar Tee yesterday, and it's a definite LOVE. I've only placed a small handful of orders over the past two years (after hitting it hard in 2007-10) and was mostly disappointed with items. This was not the case yesterday. Yay! Much heavier, nicer weight than a tee, it's somewhat reminiscent of the original Jaspe tops. I'm considering ordering the navy as well. It's that good. ;)
ReplyDeleteDo you find it TTS, or would you recommend sizing up? Thanks!
DeleteHeather - I received the Peter Pan Collar Tee too and I love it as well, though I'm concerned about the silk collar and cuffs staying nice. Mine came with a very wrinkled collar. I tried steaming it and it didn't help much. I didn't want to try ironing it until I decided for sure whether I was keeping it. Did yours come with an unwrinkled collar?
DeleteCaitlin - I'm usually between an XS and a S in tops and the XS is good for me in this one. It is short though. When you raise your arms, you show midriff if there's nothing underneath. I like that it's short though, because it can be worn tucked or untucked (though it may not stay tucked in as well as I would like).
See ajc's review of it here.
Cate O, mine does NOT have a wrinkled collar or cuffs. :/ I hate when packaging can wreck an item; boo!
DeleteCaitlin, I'm usually a S, but can go XS or M depending on the cut of a specific item. This top is perfect in a small. It's about mid-hip length on me (I'm 5'2). I would like it maybe an inch longer, but the medium would've been too boxy, I think. I like the closer fit of the small.
Thanks Cate and Heather! I love the look of it but I'm usually an XS and I'm concerned about the length on me. I'll probably give it a try anyway.
DeleteVisited Madewell yesterday upon hearing they had new arrivals, and posted some reviews, including of the highly anticipated Flowersketch Peplum Top from the Fall Lookbook which is gorgeous, gorgeous in person here. There was also a stunning, high quality ivory lace dress not on the website yet. OMG I think I'm loving Madewell right now. The Flowersketch Peplum Top is going to the top of my wishlist.
ReplyDeleteThe new factory skimmer pants in wool are amazing. They are FULLY LINED, and the material is smooth, not kinda fuzzy like last year's regular J.Crew wool cafe capris.
ReplyDeleteOh, and I apologize for saying the dorset purse is not a cross body. It just really did not look long enough! Well, I finally tried it on. It is definitely meant to be a cross body, but on me it was uncomfortably high. The bottom third of the purse was touching my hipbone... it was just awkward. I could not wear it that way. It would totally work as a cross body for a shorter person though.
Does anyone have IRL pictures or a review of the cabochon fan necklace or earrings in the peach blossom color?
ReplyDeleteReceived the collection cashmere bateau sweater yesterday in the black/flax colorway...I guess I need to learn to pay more attention to color names because the small stripes on this sweater are more of a khaki color than the white that they appear to be on the website (silly me for trusting website pictures). That being said, ordered my usual sweater size and found that it runs TTS, isn't too fitted or slouchy. The cashmere is a heavier knit than the featherweight but I personally do not think it feels as heavy as my boyfriend cardigans. Not sure I will be keeping for the price tag but I'm going to sit on it a while, despite the fact that it doesn't have white stripes I think it could be a good wardrobe staple and do well for work as well as weekend.
ReplyDeleteHello, has anyone tried on the Sequin-trim Tennis dress? It has caught my eye for some time (makes me think Chanel circa-1930's), and the price has now been reduced again. Any comments would be appreciated!
ReplyDeleteThis is actually just a question as I was in a store and noticed the anchor dress was $10 cheaper in store than it was online, but.. the colorblock stripe top, does anyone know how much it might cost in store? I see it online for $69.99 but don't totally want to pay that much if I know it's cheaper in stores. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteSome new arrivals here
ReplyDeleteHi. I have a review of the Jackie Pullover on my blog http://beachchicstyle.blogspot.com/.
ReplyDeleteNew here...just found this blog! I got the camel colored schoolboy blazer on Monday. I think I am going to take it back. I love the look but it is seriously wrinkled from storage. I thought they would fall out a bit after being hung up but they are still there. Very obvious in the camel color. I also noticed the hollow buttons which I saw someone mention on last year's post about the blazer. My search for the perfect blazer continues...
