Weekly Share: Other JCrew-like Retailers

This is the weekly "Other JCrew-like Retailers" post (similar to the "Off On A Tangent" posts), where we can share our finds from other retailers that have offerings similar to J.Crew (like Anthropologie, LE Canvas, Gap, BR, Talbots, Ann Taylor, and the like.)

If you have recently encountered items that are similar to J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including experiences with certain merchandise pieces, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. FYI for anyone still looking for New Balance sneakers -- I got a pair of 574s in gray with purple accents from ASOS on sale. They usually have some sort of promotion going on, as well as free shipping.

  2. Does anyone have experience with ordering from Boden? I ordered a swimsuit for my daughter, and it never arrived. They are going to send another, but this was my first time shopping with them, so not a great first impression...

    1. I don't order from them a lot but overall I've had good experiences. Once an order took a long time to arrive and they sent me a $10 off my next purchase coupon. So, you may get an email or a coupon with the order.

    2. Their shipping can be slow esp if it comes from the UK as many of their items do. Their returns are slooooowwwww to process. Glacial in fact. I've never had an item not arrive but I don't order from often. They seem to have great customer service. Dina at My Superfluitities is a Boden expert.

    3. Melanie, that stinks. Both Luxette and 312JCgirl are right, the glacial pace with which the packages arrive really is very annoying. They do seem to be a smidge faster than they were a few years ago, but if I see a package is being sent from PA and not the UK, I let out a little yippee, since I know it will be with me sooner.

That said, the most recent order, my preorder of summer items, came super fast, like within five business days, and from the UK. The box was a bit banged up, but all the items were intact and accounted for.

Good luck on getting the suit. I am sure it will be with you soon!

    5. That is surprising, but like others said if the item is coming from the UK it can be slow. Do call their customer service. I have found it is excellent and they will probably help you out any way they can. Even when the items ship from the U.S. location, it isn't the fastest shipping around, but probably on par with J. Crew.

  3. Just ordered directly from Cambridge Satchel Co in the UK for the first time and am very impressed. Shipping to the US was very quick -- just 3 days via FedEx -- and free. I opted for the "music bag" which is a streamlined briefcase reminiscent of some of the Coach business bags in the mid-90s. Construction seems solid, leather doesn't seem at all delicate, and the color choices are a nice change from the standard black and browns.

  4. OT: I know that they are not a clothing retailer but the Container Store is having a Spring Organization Sale. I know a few JCAs were talking about storing their cool weather clothes and they have some amazing clear storage options, like their boot and shoe boxes, that are included in this sale. I sing their praises every time I walk into my closet.

    1. I love that store!! There isn't one where I live, but recently we were out of town, and I spent forever in there and got some great stuff.

  5. Madewell is pretty cool. I went to a store for the first time last week and bought two things that I really liked. Wish there was a store near me so I could go more regularly.

  6. Hey, all, like I mentioned above, my preorder of Summer 2014 items from Boden arrived very quickly from England. Sadly quite a few items have to go back because of sizing issues. Sigh. I did a few very brief IRL reviews of the items that gave me the most trouble (and one item that I loved, to counteract all the bum items), here at my Facebook page. I haven't published these on my blog yet, but the page has links to an album full of photos showing off these summer items.

For all of the sadness with sizing, I did end up loving a great bit of the order, and only one item is an absolute no go for me. Some items that have sizing issues I will at least try in another size to see if that will work. There were also items that I decided to keep that I have not reviewed yet, but are definitely in a queue to be reviewed soon. I just wanted to get the word out on the items I felt like would give other ladies issues.
