"Thanks!" to many of you, who let us know that J.Crew had an update to its website (click here to view online).
There are some new arrivals for men (click here) & women (click here). {wahoo!} It looks like Crewcuts (click here) has been updated, as did the J.Crew Collection (click here).
The APRIL catalog (click here to view) is still up. However, the latest MAY catalog is not. As mentioned by several JCAs, J.Crew posted several images of the newest catalog over at Pinterest (click here to view).
NOTE: J.Crew changed their latest promotion to make it slightly worse/better depending on which item you were interested in. J.Crew is offering an additional 30% off *SELECT* full priced women's and men's items (plus 30% off sale and 50% off final sale) with code GOSHOP. (What's the difference? Originally it was 25% all full priced items.) This offer still expires April 27, 2014.
NEW ARRIVALS: The good: I like this roll out compared to the previous ones. There are definitely pieces I am excited to see. The bad: This roll out could still be a lot better. The skirts and dresses are seriously lacking in terms of style, wear-ability, and affordability. I complain about this a lot. So feel free to skip this part. Otherwise, let me continue my rant... What do I mean? The Lobster Skirt and the Cotton Taffeta Belle Skirt, both great examples of what J.Crew use to offer in the Summer that I l-o-v-e! I just don't understand why there are so many short, plain skirts, or long pencil skirts. Can't we offer a bit more?
* The Oui mon cheri sweatshirt (item A7426; $65.00) looks super cute. Reminds me of something Madewell would offer.
* The Ratti Fish print is back with the Ratti Fish Rash Guard (item A7349; $175.00)! I like the print, but when I saw it on the Rash Guard, it reminded me of the 80's arcade game "Space Invaders". ;) By the way, check out the price tag... ouch!
* Schoolboy blazer in floral linen (item A7291, $198.00) looks like one of those pieces that could go either way. I like the print, but I worry if it is too busy. Can't wait to see and read reviews for this one.
The Sophia Webster for J.Crew shoe collection is also finally available! The shoes are definitely a departure (a fun one though!) from J.Crew's usual offerings.
What items are you most excited
about and why? Which items are you surprised (or not surprised) to
see? Which items did you hope would be included? Were you
expecting a bigger roll-out? Also, did you receive the
latest catalog? :)
Cue the numerous calls in to CS either asking for a PA on 25% items that went to 30%, or complaints about the global 25% being pulled early. I would not want to be answering their phones today.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I got the catalog in the mail on Monday and it is an edited version of the one that was posted on Pinterest - missing a bunch of women's images and most of the men's. Anybody else? It was thin like a January catalog.
I am so peeved that they changed the 25% off all to 30% off selected! How frustrating!
ReplyDeleteI like the Collection cropped v-neck sweater (A5298) with the matching skirt (A5299). They're non-fussy, non-fragile cotton, look comfortable to wear, and you can wear them together or separately. And they're striped!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite, too! So lame that it's not included in the 30 promo!
DeleteI too am angry over the 25% promo ending early. Not cool JCrew.
ReplyDeleteIn terms of this roll-out I'm very disappointed. Overall it is too dark and drab imo. I want fun summer colors and the only ones really offered are the photo prints and I'm not really a fan. I stopped in my local store last night and the only bright color featured was citron and if you can't wear it (like me) there isn't much too chose from. I miss the vintage summer prints (boats, fish, madras) and nautical touches.
MADRAS!!! Exactly right! J.Crew use to offer great items in the Madras print. I don't know why its been missing from their collections for so long.
DeleteJA: I hear you about the citron color. I can't wear it either!
DeleteCan anyone really wear that color and not have it wear them? What happened to the bright true yellows that they used to offer in the spring and summer?
DeleteI like citron and wear it,just dont like the prints they brought out.
DeleteI'm glad someone can wear it since it seems to be JC's fav color this season. I can't wear anything remotely neon or bordering it.
DeleteNothing to tempt me, there are more things at Madewell/JC Factory that I prefer right now. My favorite description from this roll out for the Linen Swing Tank seems to summarize how I have been feeling about their recent offerings. "We took a tomboyish tank and printed it with a graphic, photo-realistic floral. Then we added some stripes because, well, we love stripes." Like we glued some stones on or put holes in it because, well, we love to do things that we can't explain, LOL! At least it was $39.50.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like all the new arrivals are "excluded from promo". This is super lame JCrew! Nice way to get angry customers. Wondering what the stores are going to do...
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I previewed many of these yesterday and came home with yet another tee (the metallic-trim linen scoopneck tee in white). Was debating a few other things but no if the pulled the promo. This stuff will go in sale sooner or later ....
Some new arrivals are showing up with the 30% now. And of course the only thing I bought in store (the striped muscle tee) is one of them! Argh. Also, don't know if this was noted already but it's free shipping today.
DeleteI do like a few things in this rollout...embroidered tunic in chambray, boy shirt in stripe gauze, & liberty boy in Dora's flowers (is this new today?), but like TeriLynn13, there are many more items at Madewell that I am interested in right now.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of Madewell, does anyone know if they are still offering an extra % off in stores?
Melissa: I just came from a Madewell and the stores are still running 20% off sale and 25% off some dresses and other select items. Hope this helps!
DeleteThank you Marielarue7! I'll try calling one of the stores to see if they have the item I'm looking for since there is still an extra % off. :)
DeleteReview of the
ReplyDelete-photo floral sweatshirt
-pleated flare dress
-embroidered floral racer
-photo floral top
-popovers in popover in honey pie print, photo floral and neon tropical jaquard
-metallic trm linen tee
embroidered chambray tunic
I also tried the white embroidered tunic and the merino scallop sweater(no pics).
Overall nothing exciting for me.
You can see the reviews here.
I love the SW shoes, but ouch at the prices! I wouldn't get enough wear out of them to justify the price, I'm afraid. Everything else looks pretty average this time.
ReplyDeleteWhat I don't understand is that they are the same price or higher than her main line. You would think that a collaboration with JCrew would bring the price down a bit. I understand the exclusive styles but I still think they should be a bit less expensive than the ones sold on net-a-porter. Luckily I don't really like any of these. I think her shoes run at least half a size small, I ordered a pair on super-duper sale last year and couldn't squeeze my feet in it.
DeleteI agree. While I love SW shoes, those shoes are more expensive when compared her own line sold at Saks or Neiman, plus Saks is doing a 25% of Friends and Family event, which includes SW shoes. I am still unsure if the qualities of SW shoes will be comparable to the likes of Jimmy Choo or Louboutin, with how close SW prices are to theirs. SW shoes are made in Brazil but Jimmy Choo are made in Italy. I love shoes and will not mind splurging on some really nice pieces, but with the prices I am paying SW shoes offered by Jcrew, I will be closely examining its qualities upon arrival.
Deleteyes I LOVE the looks of those shoes!! However they are so high (height and price!!!!) and why only up to size 40 or barely 41???? Oh well :(
ReplyDeleteI ordered a bunch of the pull-on matelasse shorts that are on 30% promo for $35. (A6063) Good looking pull on shorts are new, aren't they? Or not? One of the few new yays for JC creativity?
ReplyDeleteAudreyS, I was about to pull the trigger on these shorts this morning but then upon close inspection it seemed that I could see the model's skin through the eyelet trim. Were my eyes deceiving me?
DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
DeleteI think we must be thinking of different shorts. The ones I bought don't have any eyelet trim that I can see... (Thank you for teaching me how to do these links! So fun!)
DeleteAudreyS, I was referring to the Mixed matelassé short. I didn't realize there was another matelassé short. I might have to try those instead.
DeleteLol. This blogger's template is one of my favorite life hacks. Happy to share.
Here I go again...what is with the pajamas and blazer?? In the "Looks We Love" feature the puff-sleeve blazer, which I love, is shown with the PJs top. I realize that versatility is the word of the day but there must be ONE top, shirt, t-shirt or blouse that they could have used from the new roll-out or the never-ending sale section.
ReplyDeleteSomeone please tell me that the PJs top is SOOOO cute that it is outfit-ready. Clearly, I missed the boat on this concept...again! JCrew, I hear you talking to me: Love it or Shut up!
I wholeheartedly agree! I have yet to see anyone wearing pajama tops or bottoms as a fashion statement outside their house and being taken seriously. (And please, let's leave the homeless and college students out of it. :) If it didn't go over so well the first (second, third, etc.) time, the conclusion should be clear -- it does not work and should be dropped!! I understand and even appreciate their effort to try to push the envelope and expand how consumers think about juxtaposing casual and dressy pieces to create a cool outfit. But this (seemingly blind) insistence on presenting something as ridiculous feels, well, patronizing.
DeleteSort of OT (however it is new arrival news) - Jenna Lyons designed a pair of pants and a child's skirt for Born Free, a global initiative with the goal of ending mother-to-child HIV transmission. They are exclusively available on Shopbop. I saw a lot of press about it today, including on the Today show.
ReplyDeleteNot a ton I'm loving but to be honest I am so irked with JCrew for pulling the 25% off promo early that I wouldn't even consider buying anything right now. I think there are two standout dresses. The collection cove floral is beautiful but at $400? Ouch. The scattered flower dress is so pretty. I would consider it for some events coming up this summer if it goes on sale or promo. There is a also a basic v neck cotton stretch dress that looks like it could be a good wardrobe staple. I think it's called the steam pressed cotton dress or similar.
ReplyDeleteI must say that I do like the free ship offer. Maybe that is to make up for all the confusion about store promos. I too love the shoes but thankfully the sizing knocked me out of the running or I would have really been hurt looking at the prices.
ReplyDeleteA couple of items caught my eye: linen swing tee in photo floral, light weight merino scalloped sweater, slim linen trouser and a few others.
ReplyDeleteI love the Embroidered floral racer dress and am so disappointed it's not available in petite.
Hmm, just tried the Pintrest link and got the message 'we couldn't find that page'. Anyone else try the link Alexis provided? I'm curious to see if there are more photos than what's appearing in the catalog.
ReplyDeleteHoly cow! J. Crew fixed the Sale part of the web site! "View 100" is now available! I am beyond happy, thank you J. Crew!!!!
ReplyDeleteScoopback tank one-piece swim suit is included in the 30% off promo today! Get yours before they're gone! Of course there will be popbacks though. ;-)
ReplyDeleteI have a lot of pages dog-eared in my catalog, so I guess I liked this rollout. One thing I didn't care for was the Sleeveless Drapey Top. I felt hulky in the arms and shoulders in it. I liked the yellow/black/white version of it with the white eyelet back, although I'm not sure this colorway is for me. I tried it on in person and was surprised that I liked it.
ReplyDeleteI'm interested in trying the Patio Skirt in Burnout Linen, the Back Zip flat sandals, Italian Linen Pocket Tee, Stone Grid Necklace, Mixed Matelasse and Pull-on Matelasse shorts, Waffle Beach sweater, Paneled Eyelet Dress, Silk Eyelet Top (this one looks so pretty, hope it isn't a weird fit), Matelasse Sheath Dress, Bib Tunic in Gauze, and Eyelet Front Linen Tee. A lot of what I want to try isn't at my store.
I bought the Striped Gauze Tunic (sized down), I really love this one. The shape is so much better on me than the peasant styles, but it's still breezy and cool like a peasant top. I also bought the Linen Beach Pants, these are so comfortable and cute.
No interest whatsoever in the Sophia Webster shoes (too high and not my style anyway) or the Malta sandals (this style won't stay on my feet). I like the Birkenstocks in white, but these won't stay on my feet either. I like the look of the Cleo D'orsay shoes.
Tried on the Embroidered chambray tunic and it was terrible on me. Too boxy, shorter than I'd like, and the sleeves could hardly be rolled. It was way too low cut, and I wouldn't want to wear a cami under this, it's already pretty heavy weight for this style. It's really pretty, though.
Well scratch the Matelasse shorts, I see that the inseam is too short for me. 2.5" and 3".
DeleteMe too, loved the Matelasse shorts until I saw the length.
DeleteCate i reviewed the paneled eyelet dress( a few post down) and the eyelet front tee in my new arrivals post.
ReplyDeleteI really liked the tee in the navy.
HTH
Thanks Ina! Going to take a look now...
DeleteI was instore yesterday for a return and of course managed not to leave empty-handed. I bought the new HG "yesyesyesyesno" tee at 25% off, and I think that's it for tees with words for me. All the words were spelled right, btw.
ReplyDeleteThe other new HG wordy tee says "Luxury item" in gold letters on creamy linen, and was really cute, but I restrained myself by convincing myself that it was a little ambiguous - couldn't decide if the tee was meant to be the luxury item, or the wearer.
I understand it as the wearer. Talk about objectification of women!
DeleteI think you're absolutely right, Ema, which is why I didn't give it a second look. For a moment though it sort of reminded me of some tees I saw some years ago : "LOGO" and "Famous Label," but then I remembered JC doesn't do irony.
DeleteI like the Striped gauze tunic and Boy shirt in striped gauze. I can't see myself wearing the Embroidered tunic in chambray in the scorching summer heat, but would be interested to see the cotton version. The Scattered floral dress is very pretty (for that special occasion). And, after a long while, I'm warming up to the jewelry offering -- the daintier jewelry pieces, such as the Flower bud tassel pendant necklace reviewed by Gigi.
ReplyDeleteI have a pic of the cotton version of the embroidered tunic on my IG account inawonderland5. It feels totally different than the chambray version,it is thin and very sheer. It reminded me a little bit of a cover up.
DeleteIt is TTS and not as boxy as the chambray version.
HTH
I'll check it out. Thanks, Ina!
DeleteRidiculous how Jcrew pulls their promos like that!! Luckily I was in store today and showed them the email I had received a few days ago where the fine print says it ends on the 27th and they honored the 25%. I picked up the new Malta sandals in gold (usually wear 7.5 in sandals and the 7 fit perfectly), a linen v-neck sweater and a gauzy striped button down I can't find online. I really loved the stripe gauze tunic but I'm 8.5 months pregnant right now and even with sizing down TWICE it was big on me. I appreciate the loose floaty look but it was so big that I imagine it would just look like I was still wearing a maternity shirt even after I give birth so I sadly put it back.
ReplyDeleteHow completely bogus. "Hey Customers! We have a big promo! 25% off everything! Except when you go to the site, you'll find everything magically marked with "EXCLUDED FROM PROMO" but other than that and the stuff you didn't want, we'll give you 30% off!" Complete and utter BS. If I were to buy anything it would be rewarding this so nothing for me.
ReplyDeleteI agree! This is how they end up with tons of stuff in the sale section. Just give us the promo that you promised us while we are excited about this stuff. In less than two weeks we won't be excited anymore and you will have to mark everything down because it was overpriced to start with and nobody buys it...
DeleteAgree 100%. I'll wait. As another JCA stated long ago "I am patient and cheap"!!!
DeleteI may not be patient but I play the buy, return & re-buy game really well. I have bought one item 5 times and ended up getting the kill price. I have no qualms about doing this since JC marks down stuff so quickly. Plus my local B&M is 10 minutes from my home. They may have invented the game, but I have mastered it. Ha!
DeleteWell said, Ema!
DeleteD*ska, that made me LOL. I want to know what you bought 5 times! : )
DeleteI was interested in a few things but once I saw the red "EXCLUDED FROM PROMO" in my cart I just turfed them to my wishlist and they can sit there till they get marked down in 2 weeks.
I just took a survey at the end of my order, and I shared my beliefs that the bait and switch promo tactics are SURE to piss off the J. Crew fanbase. The two items I wanted were "selected" for the 30 off, so I lucked out. But if I could have gotten 25 percent off the entire purchase as promised in the email, I would have bought waaaaaaaay more. Bad business practices, J. Crew all the way around. God, I love to hate and hate to love j. Crew.
DeleteThis roll out is super cute. I am loving a lot.
silver_lining, it was one of the stripe blouson dresses from a few years back. I ended up paying the bargain basement price of around $24. A pair of yellow stripe shorts from either last summer or summer before is a close second. I think I bought that one 3 or 4 times and ended up getting it for about $15.
DeleteI'm glad no one outside my family think that I've lost my mind. Haha.
Can anyone tell me where to find the navy top with sheer shoulders featured with the Mixed Matelasse Short ? Thanks.
ReplyDeleteI like some collection pieces like the stripe skirt and stripe v neck that is paired together. I also LOVE some of the collection dresses: Draped keyhole dress, Eyelet flounce dress, Eyelet Organza dress (WOW), Eyelet flounce skirt and the perforated leather shorts.
ReplyDeleteI also like the sleeveless drapey top in ivory, but not fond of the poly material..I'd have to see it in the store.
I'll be stopping by tomorrow!
I actually really love the new collection of Sophia Webster shoes! I thought the style is definitely fun, feminine and unique. I agree though the pricing is a bit high. It is a bit absurb that they cost more than a pair of jimmy choo! I ordered three pairs to try it on at home to see how much I like them in person. I love the polka dot black heels with scallop edges. If I really like them, I will keep it as a birthday present for myself.
ReplyDeleteI ordered a bunch of stuff when it was just 25% off. Just called and they made the price adjustment. Saved $28. Worth making the call.
ReplyDeleteAgreed. Got a PA earlier today with no problems. Plus I literally placed my order yesterday and got one of my items delivered today via UPS.
Deletethis is somewhat off topic, but did anyone stop by a store today to see if any new jewelry items hit sale? my local store never, ever moves the on-sale case jewelry to the sale section and also doesn't mark it down, so it's always an uphill battle to try and get them to price-check things for me. any information would be appreciated. thanks, guys!
ReplyDeleteNo new jewelry. They said there were very few markdowns, only a half page. Don't know how many pages makes a good markdown??? I asked about jewelry myself and they said no and I did not see any either.
Deletethank you for the info! there has been so much stuff that's been going on promo lately, but still not moving to sale. listen to my pleas, j. crew! move it to .99 sale!
DeleteThe Faceted Cone Necklace (A6487) and Faceted Cone Bracelet (A6549) has made it into the Final Sale category, at least in the store. Sheer Pink and Crystal were marked down, but not the Dusty Sky. These are back up to full price on the website, although the 30% GoShop promotion applies to them.
DeleteA review of the newly released Wildflower Necklace here
ReplyDeleteAn SA told me their dress code is getting ready to change to a more monochromatic look which I took as more white, beige, black, etc. So guess there won't be many or any bright colors for summer either. What is happening to my beloved JCrew? I know they have a dress code but to now make them wear certain colors or certain monochromatic looks seems a little oppressive. Where is the creativity?
ReplyDeleteThat's interesting. I wonder what is going on with that?
DeleteAgree with everyone here - when I looked at the site this morning I couldn't believe they pulled the promo! I do enjoy free ship and feel they should offer that every day - at least for their card members.
ReplyDeleteI also had a problem with JCREW canceling my preorder Oui Mon Cheri sweatshirt bc they said my JCREW card didn't authorize - funny how I've never had a problem with that.
So, on my own of course I ordered the sweatshirt, and the CHERI tshirt on promo, along with the fan necklace and another piped merino v neck at $17.
I was in store today and the color and quality of the arrow print shift dress is really nice. I will be watching this item to go on sale.

ReplyDeleteI purchased the Matelassé drop-waist skirt this morning. I like the look of the lightly quilted texture but I'm not sure about this style on a curvy figure. I'm still considering the dress despite the armhole issues that some JCAs mentioned. Also finally picked up some Carrie camis to try, some featherweight cashmere and a couple of the refined silk-cashmere scarves that I can't seem to live without in spring and fall. A surprise purchase for me was the Sorel Caribou boots. I detest winter boots and although it got trying at times, I managed to get away without owning one this past winter. I won't do that again. These boots seem feasible to me. I hope I love them in person.
ReplyDeleteI'm eyeing, but didn't purchase, the Collection bonded geo dot sweater. It's the one item that I went a little crazy over but I couldn't justify the price for me. It also doesn't really scream spring and summer.
I ordered the skirt too today in both the black and the white! Saw it in store but didn't try it on (spotted it on the way out and there was no 30% off instore). Is it TTS for jcrew skirts? It looks super cute!
DeleteI bought a pair of these Sorel boots (not from JC) several years ago and they are the best Winter boots I've ever owned. I'm planning on get a new pair for this coming Winter.
DeleteThought about buying the Matelasse skirt too. Love the fabric, a bit concerned about the shorter length. I wonder if the proportions would be off if I ordered the tall.
I didn't get my Sorel's at JC, but they're probably about 5 years old and going strong. They are excellent boots!
Deletesnowbrdgrl, I hope it fits TTS because I ordered my regular J.Crew size. I guess I'll find out soon enough.
Deletemaryeb & Jruby18, thanks for the reviews on the Sorel boots. I hope JC's version is as good quality as the original. But first I hope I can actually stand the look of it on me. haha.
I bought my Sorels from JC a couple years ago and I LOVE them. They are large shoes (I wear size 10, so that doesn't help), but all the best winter boots are - they give you so much more stability. So give them a chance even if at first they seem clunky, especially if you got them on discount. You'll wonder why you waited so long to buy winter boots :).
DeleteThought that I'd update you guys about the Sorel Caribou boots;
DeleteAs I was trying them on my sis comes over and immediately falls to the floor, cracking up. Apparently I looked a bit like Daria from the MTV cartoon. I bought the wrong size. I should have read the description. That's always my problem.
They are definitely some serious winter boots. They have a 'no nonsense' vibe to them that I like but I don't LOVE them. A bit too 'Fargo' for my tastes but I don't think I'll get anything better for the price. The construction seems solid and that's what I'll need.
I'm just going to face the fact that I'll never truly love any winter boots but these feel like they'll grow on me especially since they make my legs look skinny. Reminding me of Daria didn't hurt their chances. I loved that character. I'm off to order my right size.
Thank you all for your reviews and input!
I like the look of the lace/eyelet sleeve tshirt. I may order that.
ReplyDeleteLove all the shoes, though they don't look particularly comfortable. Not a fan of the Ratti Fish Rashguard. :)
ReplyDeleteOT I have a 20% off code for swimwear purchase with free shipping that I don't plan to use. My local store handed it out with a purchase.
ReplyDeleteSWWBL7VCS
Good thru 5/31
I was thinking about purchasing the Andie chino and Schoolboy blazer in navy while they are on sale + promo. Is $70 for the blazer a good price? I'm not sure if I'll like it since I've never liked a blazer on me, but I've been wanting to try it.
ReplyDeletexo Kimi
$70 is a very good price for a classic blazer like the schoolboy. Not sure what your sizing is, but there's a good overview of both the classic and new schoolboys on Elle's blog at http://www.fastfoodandfastfashion.com/2013/07/review-j-crew-classic-schoolboy-blazer.html.
DeleteI actually really like the May catalog styles (got it yesterday in the mail). I am happy to see longer dress hemlines and also plan to use the current sale to get a much-needed work tote bag.
ReplyDeleteHas anyone tried on/seen the cleo d'Orsay loafers in warm iris? They are the only thing from the new arrivals I really like at first glance - though I will be hitting a store tomorrow. Just wanted thoughts on them. Probably not purchasing yet since they are excluded from the promo.
ReplyDeleteI ordered the navy ones to try. I'll report back when I get them. I assume the fit will be the same as the warm iris.
Deleteanyone tried the sophia webster x j crew heels? do they fit true to size or run small as usual?
ReplyDeleteNo idea, as I am still waiting for them to ship. I ordered two sizes each for the two styles that I want, waiting to see which fits better. Since the SW shoes are "imported" instead of "made in Italy", I guess they were made in Brazil like the shoes in her own line. If so, from the review of her shoes in Saks and Nordstrom, it looks like her shoes fit narrow and small. Many people suggest half to one size up.
DeleteI dug up my May 2012 and May 2013 catalogs. May 2013 was when the punk floral print was introduced (full length pants on the cover, with striped button-up). This was also the catalog that the infamous sale-section sequin patchwork pencil skirt was introduced :D It also had the butterfly sweater, ratti electric kiwi print, and a bunch of neon-lime things. I was apparently not a fan of that rollout, I didn't buy much from it (maybe nothing).
ReplyDeleteMay 2012 was a different story, I loved the whole thing and I bought a lot from it. This is the catalog with the aqua linen perfect shirt and straw hat with black band on the cover. Seville espadrilles, garment-dyed shirtdress, sequin-stripe midi (because I guess there has to be one? was there one in the May 2014 rollout?), Lena sandals, Brompton straw hobo, scalloped eyelet shorts, Lucca sandals, Scout chinos, Marci patent wedges, the Garden Floral print, Altuzarra for J. Crew, the Raj Paisley print, Mona pumps, Tessa top, Malta (they re-used the name), Lilibeth, Olympia and Audra sandals. There was blingy jewelry in this catalog, but they hadn't gone nuts with it yet. My favorites from this rollout were the Lucca sandals.
