JCA "Help Style Me!" Weekly Post

This is the weekly "Help Style Me!" post, where we can share items we are having trouble putting outfits together with. Elaine (in this post) says it best, "You know, that thing you bought because you love it and you keep pulling it out and then putting it away without wearing it?"

Please share your J.Crew item (either that you own or are thinking about getting) that you would love help creating an outfit with.

Also, please help out by offering your styling advice. Feel free to include links to your blog (where you incorporated that piece) or to Polyvore (where you showcased an outfit with that piece). Thanks in advance! :)

  1. I have had the orange-print Perfect shirt (I bought the Factory version) for weeks & it's just sitting in my closet. Aside from dark skinnies I can't come up with any ideas as to what I can do with it! I thought it might look cute maybe under a cobalt blazer? I'm stuck.

    1. I would try army green bottoms (pants, pencil skirt). Or white bottoms with a tan leather belt. I'm looking forward to wearing my citrus shirt too!

  2. I just asked gigi for advice on this...I bought the amie maxi dress in petite in black and white and I adore it. But it is cold. What can I wear with it to keep warm but look stylish? I am wearing it to dinner next week.

    1. Sometimes keeping my neck warm is enough to keep me toasty in transitional weather. Try a scarf, a fur collar, or a (fur) vest to add a little glamor and warmth without having to completely cover yourself up.

  3. A little OT, but can anyone comment on how the Factory layering and tissue tees fit? I haven't ordered too much from Factory, but it seems their tops are all over the place in terms of fit. I am familiar with the fit of retail perfect fit and vintage tees, wondering how Factory compares? Thanks for any info!

    1. Melanie - I have pics of the factory v-neck layering tee here in navy and <a href="here in pink</b></a> in the middle of the post. TTS, imo. I've owned a couple and not had any quality issues. HTH

  4. Factory reviews here of the stripe t-shirt dress (cute, but almost sleepwear casual) & the circle dot dress (was the Carrie big dot in retail).

  5. HELP with the sizing of the VANS® LEATHER METALLIC CLASSIC SLIP-ON SHOES.

I am usually a size 8 in most of their shoes. Do I really need a 1 1/2 size smaller? thats seems a little bit extreme.

    1. I believe its because it is Mens sizes. I am a 9 in womens and would size down to a 7 or 7 and a half in mens shoes. Hope this helps.

    1. I agree this was a great factory release, however when I tried it on I found it super static-y....? I don't own much poly so not sure if the fabric was the main contributing factor (or maybe the weather here)...

    2. snowbrdgrl - I had the same static issue w/the factory hothouse floral top. It was a factor in me deciding against this dress for now. I've read to slide a wire hanger down a garment to remove the static, but I haven't tried that yet.

    1. I do! I tried the Salt color on in-store last night. Pluses: Salt is the off-white color which was very opaque, so no see-through. The word "soft" is apt - it's a less structured, and longer, skirt than the No. 2 Pencil, so a nice option if you're looking to break free of a more buttoned-up style for the day. Some ladies may think the longer length looks frumpy (I didn't, but I'm 5' 7"), but the skirt is offered in Petite. Also, it looks like it will pair with a variety of sweaters and tops. Cons - Seems to run small. I normally take a 4, and this was a little tight. Maybe it was just the size, but it was clingy, so Spanx may be in order. Kind of takes the "soft and less structured" appeal out of it. Finally, and you will not know this until you see it, the back part of the waistband is not a smooth waistband like the No. 2 Pencils, but about 1 inch wide ELASTIC. This may be a pro or a con, but I was surprised when I saw it. This item is new and not marked down yet, although promos will apply, so if you order online, you might want to try a couple of sizes.

  10. recommending the colorblock stripe skirt with cream and pink, I paired it with an old cream top from Zara and the fuschia schoolboy blazer from few seasons ago and received lots of compliments.
