Seek & Find: Will you visit J.Crew this Weekend?

This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)

If you are stopping by a J.Crew store this weekend to see what's available (if anything!) in the SALE, or to see some NEW ARRIVALS {sigh!} in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic!

Also, please let us know if your local store is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)

P.S. I noticed that many of you have already been reporting sale items (and in which stores) in other posts which by the way "thank you!" :) I really appreciate how helpful we are for each other!

  1. Quite the update this morning in the sale section (~1370). Lots of pop-backs but stuff disappeared quickly. I ordered a few things that re-appeared but will only celebrate the small miracle if they actually ship.

  2. I won't make it to a store this weekend, but considering another online order...

This is a little OT, but it is time to replace my cell phone. I love the iPhone cork wallet case, but I am wondering how practical would be to actually use the phone? Just wondering if anyone has tried this or something similar?

    1. I had the cork case from last summer and it got SO DIRTY. Do not recommend

    2. Hmmm, good point. I hadn't thought of that.

    3. i hv the calf hair wallet case & absolutely adore it. it took a while to get use to but now i wouldnt want to go w/o it. while i dont see it online right now it pops bk now & then.

    4. I have 3 of the wallet cases, silver (do not recommend) all the silver wore off, the calf hair and the black/white geometric. I love them. I carry it instead of a purse sometimes if just running in somewhere. Highly recommend.

    5. Greetings Melanie - I bought the white iPhone last summer and purchased a clear case from Apple to show off the white. InCase is the brand, and given the use my phone gets, there's hardly a scratch on it.

  3. Can any stretch cotton Campbell capri owners comment on how the pants wear throughout the day? Any sagging issues? Just received my first pair, and the material feels like the Minnies, but the composition is different, with viscose added to the cotton and spandex. I like the fit, but I just don't want to be stuck with another pair of saggy pants.

    1. I don't feel like mine stretch. I have them in black and navy.

    2. I bought the Campbell's originally in a six which is my normal Minnie size. They stretched out a lot during the day and I had saggy crotch. I purchased my next pair in a four and they are much better. I would have stayed with a six if they had belt loops but since they don't the smaller size worked better. As a side note Minnie's are a bit big in the waist but I can't size down due to having larger legs. Hope this helps!!

    3. I have 8(!) pairs of Campbells and find they retain their shape throughout the day. I did size up to an 8 in the seersucker, as I always worry about that fabric!

    5. Thank you so much for sharing!

@A: black and navy--no matter how I try to branch out, inevitably my favorite pants colors!!

@A Guy: Tried the seersucker, too, but I was afraid to bend my knees for fear of ripping the seams since there is no stretch, and I think a size up would be saggy in the seat area. So does that mean I have big knees?? Anyhow, the stripes made me kind of dizzy as well.

    6. Just ordered a pair in the mint with the current promo. Ordered the same size as my Minnies & Cafe Capris, hopefully that was the right decision! I had a pair of mint ankle pants from last year that are now too big so I had to bite. Mint goes with so much! (I am an expert at rationalizing.)

  4. Another question on the Campbell Capris. I normally am a petite in other stores, but wear regular sizes in J Crew cafe capris. Was wondering if any of you ladies who wear regular sizes have tried the tall size in Campbell Capris with any success. I want the extra length, but not sure if the rise becomes too high or is it just longer in length.

  5. I just wanted to take a moment to thank ina and all the JCAs who help out with reviews and answer questions. Ina... I got the Chambray tunic yesterday and you were totally right about sticking with my usual size. I really like it! Thanks ladies! :)

  6. Not going to a retail store (closest is two hours away, sadface) but I AM treating myself to a trip to the Clearance Center which is only an hour away! I LOVE the Clearance Center - you never know what you might stumble upon or what kind of promo they have going. Last trip I came away with $56 metallic mirrored Sloane pumps & a $50 cashmere Tippi in vintage Kelly. Send me good luck shopping vibes, JCAs! :)

  7. I will be going to the clearance store tomorrow in Arden. Can't wait. Also, got a phone call last night that the suede tassel Darby that I ordered was not going to ship. I was going to get them for $54.99. I was so disappointed but when I called to see what else I could do they honored the same price on the navy and white cleo as a replacement. The lady was so nice and I am super excited about getting these. I was going to get these when they went on super sale. If anyone sees a size 8 in suede kraft brown darby, can you please let me know which store. Thanks so much. Love this blog and read it daily.

  8. So I'm moving to a town that is about 2 1/2 hours away from a clearance center.... Is it worth a trip?

    1. Yes. Call first to see what the selection looks like before you make a trip. I go pretty often and know a couple of the SA and they sort of know what I like. Sometimes they will tell me to wait to come because they are low but will be getting a shipment. I appreciate this because I too live almost two hours away. I have gotten amazing deals over there just in the store not to mention the warehouse. Today I am wearing a pair of my "cardboard box" sandals that I paid $8.00 for, almost $200.00 retail. I have bought many collection items that I could have never afforded otherwise (tweed captains coat with beaded collar for $100.00, retail was $500) and the leopard calf hair ball cap for $75, retail $300.00, just to name a few. Also many tops, sweaters, pants, etc. I have bought numerous, numerous shoes. For me, they are the best deal both in the store and if you can find them in the bottom of a cardboard box in the warehouse it is like striking pure gold. Love the clearance store! Almost forgot, the jewelry selection is usually amazing. Earrings are $20.00 and statement necklaces are $40.00 no matter the original price. There are also lots of other things to do in Asheville and lots of good restaurants and Biltmore of course.

    2. I echo the sentiments above, except the one I frequent is the Lynchburg location. That particular location carries not only J Crew but Collection, Crewcuts, Mens, formal, & Madewell. The jewelry selection isn't great though but the shoe wall makes up for it! I have scored amazing deals - they have stuff that is current retail, current Factory, and older items as well. It's a fun trip because you don't know what you're going to find! Just make sure you look at everything very closely as there are no returns & many of the items are damaged - holes, snags in cashmere, etc. But it's worth it, totally, the time spent to dig through the racks!

    3. Thanks for the tips guys! Tweed captain coat with jeweled collar... Oh man! Lucky you doodle daschund! Guess I will have to make a road trip after I move!

    4. Glad you mentioned about looking things over very carefully, forgot that part! The Arden store also carries some crewcuts and a little Madewell. The Lynchburg store is about 4 or 5 times bigger than Arden. I have only been able to go to the Lynchburg store once after I begged and all but threw some kind of fit so my husband would agree to stop on the way home from DC last summer. :)

    5. Ooh, begging and throwing fits. For deals like that, I'd say totally appropriate, Doodle Daschund! :)

  11. A little OT, but it always takes me a few days to form a coherent overall impression of a rollout, especially in the context of the last few rollouts.

It seems to be that J Crew now has three main design segments - I'll call them (1) Barney's, (2) Talbots and (3) Target. In other words, some of the clothes and shoes are fashion forward and quite expensive, some are on the boring end of classic, and others are unremarkable and/or down market.

I'm not seeing me in much of this. I have a wardrobe full of fabulous J Crew clothes from past seasons that are full of color and pattern, and I love them. But this season is leaving me (mostly) empty.

There were three dresses in particular that I liked from this season that fit the J Crew that I have always known - the wonderdot, the applique floral, and the tile medallion. All sold briskly even with high prices. These three reflect my taste (and apparently others as well) and showed the kind of personality that J Crew has always been known for. If these kinds of clothes are selling well, then why not make more?

I think that by trying to serve the three segments I've characterized above, J Crew has largely lost its design sensibility. (Sad face)

    1. I'm so glad you shared this! I totally agree! There haven't been many items this season that I've been totally "gaga" over...especially the shoes...

      Delete
    2. I agree with you 100%, Cousy! I haven't bought much at all. I only bought a scarf in the medallion/lattice pattern and that's it all year. Like Cousy, I have a closet full of vintage J Crew that I still wear and still love. The clothes are still in great shape and I receive complements. No 'gaga' feelings over the year's rollouts, but my wallet is happy!

    3. "I'll call them (1) Barney's, (2) Talbots and (3) Target." --- LOVE THIS! LOL.

    4. Elizabeth - I'm glad you get what I mean. And I've bought stuff from all three stores, so I don't mean any disrespect. But those three stores capture a particular aesthetic, none of which I have ever associated with J Crew before now.

      Delete
    5. I thought of their design segments as comparable to the different labels under the Ralph Lauren brand, especially regarding pricing, but your Barney's, Talbots and Target analogy is on point. There is so much disconnect within the collections, it might as well be offerings from different brands altogether.

      Delete
    6. I definitely agree. I switched from saks/neiman to jcrew a few years due the high quality cashmere and Italian made shoes at sensible prices. If jcrew is only going to make good quality products only for "collection" pieces. I would rather look back at saks/neiman, as I would be paying the same price for the same products. I am finding myself shopping less at jcrew (except for shoes) and more at saks/neiman

  12. Greetings JCAs - It seems that the Super 120's suiting in Heather Flannel has gone to Final Sale. Blazer marked down to $159.99, pants $89.99, and skirt $79.99, plus FS discount of 40%. Unfortunately, I had to go to 2 locations to get all three in the right sizes, but thank you friendly SAs who held the items for me an extra day. I did not see any other colors, and it's not clear if they are discontinuing this color, or just clearing them out for another round in the fall. They are still FP on the website, but the 30% promotion applies.

    * antique floral dress (review) - $79.99

    * side-zip varsity dress (review) - $39.99

    * swoop dress in lattice medallion (review - $69.99

    3. Wow!! I just made a review, too! On a pair of neon orange laces for my daughter's crewcuts Macalister boots! It's probably going to happen!

    4. One caveat though....it says that your comments "might" be posted.

So they are screening it and being selective with the comments.

    5. Just reviewed the Andie. If they filter reviews though to only show positive ones, that kind of negates the helpfulness of said reviews, no? In any event I hope that reviews are still posted here!

  19. 40% off in the sale section of the store. I was delighted to see so many shoes because it's rare to find my shoe size in the sale section. The Cleo metallic perforated loafers (A2410) in silver are $139.99. You should inspect them closely because you can see glue and scuff marks on some. Nora perforated ballet flats (A1146) in gold are $99.99. They seem wide, but my feet are narrow so who knows. Lucie printed fabric slingback flats (A0612) in leopard white canvas are $179.99, however, they didn't seem to have many of these. All aforementioned prices are without the 40% off. The sale section was exploding and a SA told me if I don't find my size she can look in the back because they have "a lot in the back." Yikes! How will they get rid of all that stuff?!?! I walked out with the metallic loafers at $83.99 but that's it.

  21. FYI: The GOSHOP promo can be used with the teacher/educator discount. This rarely happens with this type of promo, so be sure to check at your store. Ended up getting the Wildflower necklace which is very bit as lovely as everyone says. The bracelet is designed to fit small wrists which worked for me. Unfortunately, the height of the flowers made it impractical to wear and I declined to get it. Am delighted with the necklace and can see wearing often this spring.

    1. FYI, the Drapey Crepe Top's deep V-neck is a great frame for a triangle-shaped statement necklace - for example, the Mint Stone Statement Necklace (A7700). The Symmetrical Stone Statement Necklace (06611) seems to be sold out, but the large, bright yellow stone in the center was the reason I kept the Drapey Crepe Tank in the Bright Kiwi color - coordinated perfectly, and necklace shape was just right.

    2. Jennifer D - ITA about statement necklaces w/the drapey crepe tank. I just can't wear those necklaces for work, in most cases. I'm definitely going to keep the top. Hoping to work out the size so I can wear it for work.

You're so lucky to be able to wear the kiwi color up top. It's so fun and not as green as some of the bright yellows in J Crew's past.

      Delete
    3. Well Gigi . . . I'm not sure the Bright Kiwi is totally my color . . . I'm pretty pale and pasty looking . . . and when I paired it with black suiting I thought I looked like a bumblebee . . . but damn, I need something to remind me of the sun after this winter! Plus, I'm going to get as much mileage out of that necklace as I possibly can! Cheers - Jennifer

  25. For some reason I didn't get a catalog this month, the first time in over 20 years. I requested one and hopefully it will arrive. Maybe they somehow found out that I haven't been too impressed lately with their offerings and they cut me off :-(

  27. I've been "off" the Crew for quite a long time now. Last thing I bought and kept was the camo/peach striped scarf. That's pretty sad. Anyway, I got the new catalog and aside from the off-putting cover look (looks like my painting the house or working in the yard get up) I browsed it. Love the look of the side slit pencil skirt in salt, so ordered that as well as the poplin pleated skirt in navy, which I was waiting to go on some kind of discount. SO hoping I love these skirts!

    1. Ema, I am not sure about NYC stores, but I went into a store today (MI Ave in Chicago) and inquired about the advertised 25% promo that was originally supposed to run through April 27th (I told the SA that I received multiple emails from J Crew and my VPS that advertised the promo through April 27). I was told if I showed the email they would honor the discount. I didn't have the email with me, but I wasn't purchasing anything so didn't inquire further, but I have a hunch if you ask the manager and mention the email, they would honor the 25% off even if you didn't save the email.
