J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs!}

This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.

So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.

In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)

  1. Madewell - I have a $25 off $100 coupon that I'm not using. Expires today, Tue. gigiofca at gmail

  2. The new retail promo is 30% off select spring styles with BIGSALE. Good thru Sun, 4/20.

It's working for 30% off sale/promo items and 50% off that part of the sale section.

  3. I have a picture of the Silk Eyelet Bib Blouse on my blog today. I call this blouse "Fiddly Buttons". I couldn't even undo the buttons to try the blouse on so I sent it back. I also found the ruffles quite pronounced in real life. The blouse needs an edgy pant or shorts to take the sweetness off in my opinion: if you can open the buttons that is.

  4. Am I dreaming, or wasn't the instant gratification event 50% off last year?

  5. Agree...this sale doesn't seem very gratifying to me!

I am wondering if anyone can give me advice on how the tissue tees fit? More like a vintage cotton or perfect fit? Somewhere in between? Thanks for any advice!

    1. I've ordered both types recently and found vintage and tissue to have similar fit, definitely. Perfect fit is the slimmest of the three styles.

    2. More like vintage cotton, IMO.

  6. Madewell has extra 20% off sale (with 40% off select sale items) with code MOODLIFT, through 4/21/14.

  7. I feel like there will be big markdowns in store this week. They usually mark down on Tuesday evening so I will be anxious to check out the sale section tomorrow morning. Sometimes the items that go on a promo are actually the ones that get marked down in store because they are not selling well. There were hardly any additions to the sale section last week and it is packed at my local store. I don't think sale items are selling in general or full price. There haven't been many second mark downs either which is ridiculous, stuff just hanging there at the same price for weeks. Mark it down, move it out and move on. Any thoughts?

  8. OT. The other week there was a post about moths and clothing storage. I want to report back I used the Safer Clothes Moths Traps and caught nothing so I do not think I have clothing moths or maybe it was an isolated incident. I do not see evidence of carpet beetles so not sure what it was.

  9. Another OT question. The other week I received a nice hand written note from a VPS. I have never used a VPS. Honestly I don't think I have purchased one thing full price from J. Crew and don't plan on it. I am strictly a sale or on promo w/a % off shopper. It is worth getting a VPS? I am just worried she will try to convert me to a full price shopper and that is not going to happen. I guess the question is are VPS's ok w/clients who are strictly sale shoppers?

    1. I am pretty much the same - rare full price purchase. My VPS is still great with me and doesn't seem to mind.

    2. This is good to know. I've wondered the same thing about having a VPS. I didn't want to waste their time or feel pressured to buy more and full price, so I've never used one.

    3. I'm also a sale/promo shopper and I really like my VPS. She doesn't pressure me to buy FP items - with different sales and promos now on multiple times per week I would guess J. Crew is selling less FP than it used too. She does sometimes send emails with sneak peak / pre-order items, I never pre-order but love to see what's ahead.

    1. shopalot - I had to check the date to see if it was April Fools. lol That's cray cray!

Thank goodness I'm #luxeforlife. Free shipping, other REAL card benefits. And Marissa Webb. Very curious to see what happens over there.

    2. Wow! Very interested to see what happens as well... I had a big BR order arrive on Saturday and all but an amazing pair of earrings, which have now sold out, went back. Love the free ship both ways - I'm never afraid to give things a try and to order multiple sizes.

    3. Wow, amazing news! I hope she can revamp BR. I stopped shopping there as there was too much synthetic fabric going on.

  14. went to the store with my mum this past weekend and we tried on a couple of things. We both adore the pink geo print but the top is shapeless and not boob-friendly, and the dress is too long on both of us (im 5' 3''). The colorblock seersucker short looks too much PJ-ish on both. Fabric is really light. And the leg openings are too big. And flattened our bums. The 5 inch chino shorts look better but not really into any of the colors on display. The new lace-stripe skirt a2660 is in very substantial structured cotton for anyone interested. I didn't try it on because I figured it would be too long on me. I tried on the diamond ikat dress and the print was surprisingly amazing on me (i thought it would be too old for me im 21). But there's major gapping at the neck opening/chest both front and back. My mom's a tailor and she says there's no cheap ways to fix it...Sale section was huge though.a lot of popovers thin sweaters and tshirts. I'm liking Madewell a lot more this season because of the boho vibes. The stuff I want to like at JCrew are either too expensive (the new jeans, which are never on sale/promo) or too long for petites or the silhouettes are just wrong.

  16. Does anyone have any input on the weekend sweatshirt, the marled jeweled sweatshirt, and the back-zip colorblock sweatshirt? I don't plan on wearing a tee or shirt underneath. I bought my usual size medium and hope they fit well and the jewels don't fall off.

    1. The marled jeweled sweatshirt is true to size.
I also reviewed it,just not sure in which post it was, must have been a couple month ago.

    2. BigShopper - I reviewed two of them. The weekend sweater. TTS. I liked it. And the back-zip sweatshirt. Felt like it ran one size big. Didn't like it due to the zippers. Too busy in general.

Maqsad reviewed the marled jeweled sweatshirt in this post. Rose reviewed it here.

    3. Wow, thanks, I will read all those posts that you linked. Thank you both so much.

I just joined a gym and j crew sweatshirts are my favorite thing to wear after a workout. Cute but also loose and comfy.

  17. OT - I'm curious as to how those of you who received Madewell coupons and codes got them. Are they for card holders?
Anyone have any experience with their jewelry. How is the quality. Thanks so much.

    1. maryeb: This is actually the first Madewell code I have received in a very long time. I did place a couple of orders before the holidays, but hadn't ordered anything since then, other than a charge/send that my VPS placed for me a couple weeks ago. I am not a cardholder, so I think their selection process may be a bit random.

  18. Collection Cashmere Getaway Hoodie: I really love this sweater, and now own two of them. I normally wear an XSmall, but sized up to a Small for a roomier fit, and I'm happy with that choice. The silhouette is very flattering and of course it is soft and comfortable to wear. I know that J.Crew Cashmere has a history of not holding up well, but I am really hoping that will not be the case with these hoodies. :)

    1. I sized up in this too and it's still a slim silhouette, even in a size up. I finally got a popback of the Hthr Bouquet color in this, which has supposedly shipped but not arrived yet. Woo hoo! I have it in gray too.

  19. I feel like I haven't bought anything from J. Crew in ages. But the things I have bought, I've liked, and received at a fair/sale price, so hmm...

Anyhow, if any of you are interested in the French Print popover on sale, I bought it in my "true" size and found it to fit well. It also is really very cute, especially if you have a thing for printed cotton shirts. (Fans of liberty tana lawn, it reminds me a lot of that.)

I wore it recently with a pair of cobalt blue jeans and a sequined sweatshirt and liked the outfit. If you want to see how it looked on me, you can head on over to this post for the photos (second outfit down).

  21. I haven't seen any reviews for the Skinny Washed Twill Utility Pant (item a6527). These are fantastic for me. The fit just works, where the fit on similar recent J. Crew pants styles did not. The back pockets do not have flaps, so there is no need to fuss about the flaps drying or ironing flat. I thought they were TTS. They are cute worn straight or rolled twice.

  22. I really love the new Reid crop jean in chalk. It's so hard to find a good pair of white jeans. I hate to admit that I'm a jeans snob and usually only buy COH and AG but these I really liked : ) The material has a nice stretch to it. I felt like it was thicker and not as see through. I liked how the bottom wasn't super tapered as on the toothpick and slightly straight leg. I sized down one size from my toothpick size and felt they ran big.
